Possibility to mix IMEs? - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Hi devs,
Is there any possibility to mix up 2 different Input methods?
I like to use the android default or some similar qwerty-keyboard for "on screen typing", but if i slide out the hardware keyboard i want to use the SE IME.
So i have to change the IME by pressing text input field manually, every time i wish to use the hardware or reverse.
So my simple question is it possible to mix up IMEs or any other chance to get this managed automatically?

It should be logically possible to attach a task of switching the input method when the event of keyboard out/screen rotation takes place.
But then again if someone did it it'll be an app that would charge, because it'll be a lot of work for coding and making a ui for it.
Guess you should stick to your fingers for now!
XDA ♥

it is really hard to mix but possible i try and post when it works^^
but its hard

It's been a while since I tried it, but i think i remember there being an app available in market called Keyboard Manager (requiring root access) that allowed this. It needs to run on boot and automatically switches the IME based on keyboard state.
Edit: I was wrong in thinking it read keyboard state, it read rotation sensor state.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.ne0fhykLabs.android.utility.kmLauncher

yeah this app is very cool and fits my needs.

As predicted it IS a paid app

Tested, works absolutely great!
Even my device is set up to ignore orientation by rotation sensor, "keyboard manager" seems to recognise the keyboard slide out and changes the IME automatically.
Now I use swiftkey x beta for onscreen and SE IME for keyboard typing...
Thanks a lot!

[Q] Remove the language bar?

Has anybody worked out how to remove the language bar which pops up when texting yet? If I have the sudden urge to switch to Catalan half way through a text I will do it long-hand, that bar takes up too much of the already small screen!
Could you post a photo of what you mean, cost I don't get any language bar come up
Sent from my E10i using XDA App
I cant post a pic of it at the moment, but let me try to explain it better. When i go to enter text using the hardware keyboard a blue bar appears at the bottom of the screen (taking up approx 1/5 of the screen) with "Eng" on the left and an icon to show the status of the Caps lock on the right, along with a close button. This annoys the hell out of me as often when filling in passwords etc it covers up the "Ok" button.
Only way I found on mini pro is
Settings - Locale & Text
Uncheck the default input tick box
This works well on mini pro but stops you using virtual keyboard

Is a good intermediate solution but someone knows a way to get rid of this bar without losing the virtual keyboard?
It's build in built-in keyboard and I think it could not be removed (not easily without root hacks). The half-solution without root is to use another software keyboard.
Yeah installing third party keyboard software gets rid of the blue language bar.
I'm using SlideIt Keyboard which changes the virtual keyboard to a funky Swype-like keyboard but removes the language bar when using the hardware keyboard.

Can anyone recomend a decent keyboard replacement.
Also, i've asked this before (didn't get much of a reposnse) but is there a way to get spell check with the hardware keyboard?

I use AnySoftKeyboard, which is free and provides a reasonably good keyboard for when I don't want to open the hardware keyboard.

Currently there doesn't appear to be one.
I have ended up installing AnySoft keyboard too. Its ok, but removes the function where you could long-press a key to access the blue alternate option on it. It has removed the language bar though so its good enough for me!

Which keyboard do you use?

Stock is ok....but still stock
Swype is nice but a little slow on the tab
Thumb keyboard has a great layout but no word predictions
Anyone try swiftkey tablet version?

Have been used to Thumb Keyboard and it does have word prediction.
Swiftkey Tablet has a month trial.
I was testing the waters to see if I was more accurate with Swiftkey but suspect that am used to Thumb Keyboard now so moving to something else was not as accurate. Am back to Thumb Keyboard.
Maybe I just like the word predictions of swiftkey more I guess

I love perfect keyboard. One does need to fiddle with the size to make it correct though.

does it have word prediction?
i compared swiftkey to thumb keyboard for quite some time.
swiftkey just seemed to give far better predictions, although thumbkeyboards very flexible layouts are a definite plus on that side.
but i keep coming back to swiftkey x tablet. fastest and most precise imho.
some things i would like them to implement though is:
more layouts (like thumbkey)
shorctu swiping (swipe has this if you swipe from the "swype" key to "a" it selects all. swype->x=cut, swype->C=copy just like using a computer. really great. i use it a lot on my phone.
also arrow keys.
Try smart keyboard it had word prediction and arrows

I'm a huge proponent of Swype, both for phones and tablets. Once you take a bit of time to learn how it behaves and predicts your words, it is a great text input method.
Thumb keyboard for me. Love the customizability and the ability to pin common phrases. Plus the top row of customizable keys that can be hidden away is nice. I use it for coding so I can easily get to keys like /,\,{,}, etc.
Tried a bunch of them: Thumb Keyboard, Perfect Keyboard, Super Keyboard, SwiftKey X Tablet.
They all have their weaknesses: some are slow, some have the keys too close together, some have punctuation marks that aren't easily accesible and some have a mandatory autocomplete which you can't turn off.
I always turn off autocomplete because I seem to always keep an eye on the words to check up on it, instead of actually typing, so I feel like I'm always slower with autocomplete.
So, for me, it's the stock keyboard simply because it's the fastest (it keeps up with my fast typing, I'm not talking about the apparent onscreen animations). It's one of the most responsive I've tried and the keys are the perfect size and spacing (this is what really counts when turning off autocomplete).
Also, every other keyboard out there, except the stock one, registers the last key that was touched, as the key pressed, when in fact the first key touched should be registered, in order to accomodate for fast typing. This is the same for my HTC Sensation stock keyboard. I've only found these 2 keyboards with this behaviour, but I think all keyboards should do the same. I regard this as a bug.
You should really try "hacker's keyboard". Is like the stock one, only better

I also found MultiLing Keyboard to be very responsive and have the right key size/spacing to use for both my phone and my tablet. It has a nicer split layout than any of the other split keyboards.
Stock isn't that bad, but Swype does run slow compared to others I've used. Thanks for the suggestions.

For this and the fact that I find myself often writing in 3 different languages, I also use stock keyboard and autocomplete/autocorrect off.
The Word predictions of Swiftkey is so great, that I never have to type a whole word. Most of my tipping time is just hitting the words.

Keyboard Modification

so I like the stock Samsung keyboard but I hate that they have the button on the lower right side to accept pen input. I never use it and it makes the spacebar so small that I always it a period instead of a space. anyone know if there is a way remove it so that the.space bar.is.larger....
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
I don't but I'm sure others will.
On another note(LOL), I absolutely hate that keyboard. The pop up from the keys you press are so obnoxiously large, and the way the area where the auto correct disappears when you hit space and reappears when you start typing another word bugs my eyes out like crazy. I do like the size and the appearance of the keyboard. But I hate it so much it drives my eyes nuts.
The stock android one works how I'd like it too, however its incredibly small for the size of the phone.
The stock swype I like but it ****s up in apps like textfree and sometimes glitches and only takes one touch inputs making fast typing impossible.
I have go keyboard but have not used it yet. From what I see I'm not sure it has what I readdy want which I guess would be a mix of stock Samsung size. Stock android look. And swype ability that doesn't mess up. Does anyone know of that?
I agree that it does have some annoying features but so.far.for.me.the auto correct has been the best...I have been using swiftkey tablet version but the auto correct is.horrible and. rarely picks up the mistakes and fixes them correctly

Ice cream sand witch keyboard from play store helps.
Also in swype go to languages and uncheck all other languages than English, this will give you more accuracy

Problem with keyboard on SK17i

Hello!
I've installed CM 9.0.0 on my Mini Pro and I have a problem with the physical keyboard. When it is open, there are no word suggestions (even if i activate them in the settings) and there is no blue key lock icon in the statusbar. How can I install the stock keyboard on this rom? Previously used the Real ICS r2 rom and the keyboard was working correctly with word suggestions and icon on statusbar.
Thanks in advance!
Download a keyboard

As long as I remember, the suggestions doesn't appear when you are using the physical keyboard (well I'm not really sure about this). Anyway, you could use other keyboard like swiftkey, I'm using it already and suggestions appear even with physical keyboard.
Also, currently there is no way to get the key lock icon, though the key it's working normally. The same for the shift key and sym key.
All these features are present with the stock keyboard only. As far as I know there is no ported stock keyboard which is working with CM9.

There's noving u can do about it. All keyboards on CM9 will have a bit lag or many. The phone just cant handle it well
I've the same issue. Press back button and relaunch it. But has someone any idea why it happen?
Sorry for my english.
Solution.
I think that i've found a solution. There is an option in settings inside of advanced settings, "disable multitouch" i think, my keyboard is in spanish so i guess that it's what it type in english, tick it.
And the other thing is in general settings, where shows multi-tap interval, you reduce it and I think that our keyboard will go fine.
I hope that it works for you.
