[Q] hi i just got my HTC evo 3D...i have a few question!! - HTC EVO 3D

Hi guys how u doing i habe the evo 3d so any tip yall want to share with me? Jow.to save battery .. is there a easy way to root? Lol any tip yall want to share with me i will.be thankful

Temp root, check the dev section. Its an easy one click method. As far as battery, I always have the mobile data turned off when im not using the phone.
Also check out screen filter in the app market to turn of the led capasitive lights.

Tip one read the rules in the forums.
Tip two read this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695878
Tip three juice defender beta helps a lot with battery imo also go into settings and change screen brightness to automatic its not by default.
As for root. I wouldn't yet. The root access we have is temporary and unstable and not really that helpful without s-off. You can't flash a custom recovery or Rom yet. As far as I know WiFi teathering isn't working yet either.

lol should I go back and check your post history so we can tell you to read the rules?

Well battery life is actually very good out the box. Only tips I can say is cutting off the radios that you aren't gonna be using (i.e. WiFi, GPS, 4G). Oh & I don't know if keeping the 3D switched on actually drains the battery any faster even if your not watching anything in 3D but I would switch it to 2D anyway just to be on the safe side. As of right now there is no permanent root. Just a semi one that let's some programs that require root to run but you have to re-apply it after every reboot. Check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159354
Flashing ROMS/Themes is impossible right now until they figure out full root & S-Off. They have been able to overclock the phone up to 1.8 Ghz last time I checked but don't know how that effects battery life. Check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158951
That's about all the tips that I can suggest as I don't have the phone anymore but hasn't been any progress since my returning it.

Thanks guys i like the evo a lot i had the evo 4g

One more thought. If you are trying to get into the bootloader by power + vol down make sure to turn off fast boot in settings >power>unchecked fast boot first or it won't work.

Icons of apps that are on the sd card won't be on the home screens when you restart the phone , get fast boot from the market

You don't have to disable fast boot to get into the bootloader. Just power off the phone and then pull the battery. Then vol down + power will get you there just the same. I for one love the fast boot.

What is a great rom that doesn't need bootloader to be unlocked?

I ran the root program that roots the phone then rant the market app that puts a recovery but not unlocked bootloader. I just got the phone and did it last night. I read if the bootloader is unlocked then there is no 4g, not that I used 4g. Or is there a program that does it all like they have for the Evo 4g?
Did you check lokfish's compendium? Whole list of roms. Also check the development threads they'll have "locked" in the title.

yeah
Thanks KTT16, I did end up reading about a couple and tried one that one person said worked smooth. I ended up some error message and RSD'd back to stock and then decided to go all out and figured out how to unlock bootloader, load Clockwork, and then put ICS on. Then went to sleep at 5am =/ hehe. Now I need to set it up the way I need and then shut down my evo and activate my photon=)
Nice work! If you get a chance try cm7.2 and lokfish's rom.

Within settings there's a box you check to activate internal memory. Cm7.2 is also like this, so it's not a bug.

Thanks everyone,
I did that so then the camera started working because it was asking for the sd card, but it still doesn't charge when I plug it into the computer and the computer still doesn't recognize anything. I press the button that says if I want to send files yada yada. The lightening bolt comes on the battery symbol, but not charging or anything else. I'll check the fixes section that KTT16 mentioned in case he meant something else beside the box to check.
I also want to use the calendar app in my evo. It's on a kings speed 3d rom, but that's another thing so I'll figure out the sd card first.

So looks pretty much what the company uses to make sure the phone is working properly.
The Retail Diagnostics is used in Sprint's Slate test. It is used to test the primary functions of the phone and make sure PRL and profile are up to date. Fortunately it is pretty harmless at this time. There would be no point in it checking for root because Sprint M&P does not care whether you are rooted or not.
Sweet! Will check it out.
thanks a lot!

Already did And updated the gapps to 429 and used the latest build35. Build 35 has pink unicorn which so far has great performance. No big diff from milestone5 so far. Still no screen capture option, but im looking into it. Gonna test the GPS later on. That was still causing me some issues
Should be able to go into rom control, power menu, and add screenshot option to the power menu there.

Noticed something else. Build35 doesn't have a music player or YouTube.

Music player isn't included as most people have a specific preference, so it's bring your own. YouTube you can get easily enough from the market. Besides that's gapps and not rom related.

Gotcha Anywho still having connectivity issues with GPS? the icon is suppose to be flashing when searching for a signal inside the circle, but its not. I have everything enabled. So im unsure whats going on at this point :/
Go through the maps shortcut forbl navigation. Occasionally you may have to launch it a few times before it seeks a GPS signal. For the first lock try to do it outdoors and be patient. First lock may take a long time.

Can I root my dinc4g - just got one yesterday

So I finally got my dinc 4g!! I'm reading through the threads and it looks as though the htcdev site has been shut down.
I wanted to root mainly to remap my soft keys. So my question is, can I use the toolkit to root and apply the mod or am I screwed til further notice??

Gotcha, so a temp root is like a tethered jailbreak on the iphone. It'll work until I need to reboot. If I temp root I'm assuming I can flash a ROM and the softkey remap??

well you cant flash it because temproot doesnt allow you to install a recovery (afaik)
you could conceivably push the files to /system/ while temprooted and then reboot to apply the changes...but i dont know if the changes stick (never actually temp rooted, but there is some wackiness)...maybe someone else can chime in

From my experience:
Temp root simply adds the su command to the /system partition and allows user-apps to call on it when needed. If you can flash a recovery image via a su terminal, then it would allow a recovery, but I think that is where different phones vary in their temp root capabilities.
You can put files on the /system partition, but replacing the entire partition over ADB would be quite a stretch.

Why do you need root so bad ????

Silly question but what's the need to root this phone, is great as it is.
Don't get me wrong, all my past phones were rooted OG Evo, Evo 3d, Evo LTE and now DNA is stock , but rooting seems unnecessary really.
If it's not broken why fix it.
Not fixing but enhancing. The phone is great as is... Adding in a few tweaks can only make it better plus the option to have the latest without waiting on slow big red... That's why I can't wait to root this bad boy.

Being able to flash custom edits (no more wireless charging pop up!), user a custom recovery where I can make full nandroid backups, and titanium backup of all my apps are the big ones for me. Also custom splash screen (that default HTC screen lights up my whole house) as well as boot / down animations is something love. I was making custom boot animations and hacking my old moto razr era flip phone back in the day.
Oh, and we'll probably get a ported sense 5 way before it comes from Verizon.

I can't wait to get rid of the bloatware and get my inverted apps back.
I don't need ROOT I need the bootloader unlocked so I can flash custom recoveries which leads to custom ROMs.
Example:
So when HTC says oh sorry we can't upgrade you to Sense 5 because you don't have an IR blaster I say thats ok because Newtoroot already has a Sense 5 ROM that I've been using LONG before HTC decided they weren't going to upgrade me.
With a good ROM you ALMOST don't need root.

Yea, I know, and I am very thankful of that. However, in most cases (if we get an official CM ROM) we can get updates much much sooner than you can with stock. Who knows how long HTC/Verizon will make us wait for 4.2.

I guess you have unlimited, because it doesn't cost anything if you have tiered data.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Why do we need air? lol JK! For me part of the reason is that I love to tinker and strive to make the phone perfect, which theoretically is really impossible thus I always have to tinker! But I enjoy trying out all the cool custom ROMs and kernels to find what suits my needs best. RIght now I'm UV by 100 and UC 10 1.24 and it still runs as smooth as stock (though obviously my qudrant score has dropped from 8200 to 7100). I have unlimited data, so WiFi tether is a huge bonus. And getting rid of all the annoying icons (GPS reticle, etc). And as awesome as HTC's weather clock widget is, the transparent one in the Viper ROM is the most gorgeous widget ever to me.
All that being said, and there are not many, the DNA is an Android phone I would recommend stock to people.
I'm actually surprised its taking this long to get the ROM going on the DNA. Not that I have any idea of the amount of work that must go into doing something like this, but these guys that are much smarter than me usually have these things out very quickly. In the past it always seems like there is that group of developers that are trying to be the fist to crack/hack/unlock anything that comes out.
There are plenty of ROMs for the DNA man...check the android development section for the DNA...
