Reduce Bass - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone know of an app like dsp manager that will allow bass reduction? I drive an s-10, and have a 1000w Rockford P2 subwoofer sitting behind me. Even With the bass turned all the way down on my radio, the bass still overpowers the treble. I ran a rom on my old droid that had dsp manager with a check box for bass reduction, but it won't work on my tbolt. Any ideas?

I can't tell but are you saying that setting in DSP Manager in CM7 for the TB doesn't work? or you just want that CM feature on another rom?

Is it possible to use the dsp manager from cm7? I thought the one I was installing was the right one, but I'm not sure

I'm just saying there is a version of CM done by Slayher for the TB.
And since it's CM, it includes DSPManager which seems to work.
Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049542
As far as pulling that out and using in another rom, I'm not sure as I've never tried.
I would imagine there are other music players on the market that have equalizer settings like that you can use to reduce bass though, if you don't want to flash CM for whatever reason.

I've got it working with gb BAMF. I was just using the wrong apk (d'oh). For anyone else interested, this link will get you the cm7 dsp manager:

DSP Manager (system audio equalizer)

Like my heroc, the Shift suffers from the lack of a low end when listening to music in decent headphones/audio system. Though the Shift has definitely improved, it still isn't near where I feel it should be.
I followed the directions in this thread to install DSP Manager on my Shift:
[FIX] DSP Manager working on sense rom. +Possible fix for bad speaker
Does this really work for the shift? Anyone try it? I'm in need of increasing my loudness for in call volume especially...
DSP Manager works excellent on my HTC EVO Shift 4G. The EQ is highly customizable.

No drawbacks or issues though after installing it? What's the best way to backup before doing this?
Ok well I installed it, and enabled the phone speaker and adjusted the peaks. I did a test and don't notice any difference when in a call on speaker phone. Anyone else?

[Q] Louder Volume Hack

Hi, which version of Louder Volume Hack works on Xperia X10 and if there is, How can I apply the codes into my phone .
thanks in advance
It doesn't. You have to install a custom kernel with that particular fix. Loud volume hack wont work on our phones and if u look at the description where you download it it says does not support Sony Ericsson phones. U could try dsp manager though

I have been looking for something to address the same issue. Which froyo or gingerbread roms that are fully working address the volume issue? Also, what is DSP manager, where can I get it, and how does it address the volume problem? Thanks!

dsp manager is a global equalizer for your phone.. its awesome.. made my x10 10x louder.. and in the case of headphones, i actually prefer listening music via x10 rather than my ipod after applying dsp manager.. lol..
you can download the apk from here
if the apk dosent work then try flashing the attached zip file via xrecovery..!!
but make sure you are on a froyo or a gingerbread rom cause it works only on 2.2 and above..

Start DSP manager and choose for example "phone speaker". Tick "Enabled" and raise the equalizers up. I think if you raise up the last 3 bars it will be just fine.
You can do the same for "Headset" and the "Bluetooth device".

Many thanks,
I finally made this work for me
Dsp is the best but I have a question, on a gingerbread rom, thinkin its rendeiro or rdannar's one but not trip, Ive found DSP manager with the bass boost option, since Ive turn it back my phone to froyo, using wolf's rom, DSP manager doesn't have the bass button, wondering if there is different versions of DSP Manager.
Btw im using wolf rom on bb55, stock kernel, x10a, 2.1.0.435 I think

Trying to search for other DSP versions, but couldn't find any other than v.1.0.
The best settings I found for volume/clarity with DSP Manager for the phone speaker is to set values (left to right) at 4.0, 4.5, 5.5, 6.0, 5.5 These setting boost the whole range but keep distortion down on the high and low.
Sent From My *Super Fly X10*
If I (or anyone for that matter!) help you, dont be afraid to press THANKS!
I never set the first higher than two cost the bass distorts too much. The rest I set at 6 tho and it sounds fine. Maybe twice as loud as previously. At least I can hear my phone from my back pocket now lol
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Same with me. I played some music on the player, same time i went to DSP and play with the bars. Last 3 up and the first two at about 2 was the best setting and sound clariry.
The settings of the "headset" is other thing though. The bass there is raised more.

[Q] DSP Manager why?

Why does almost every rom include this app? I dont see what is so great about it. To me it is just taking up RAM.
Am I missing something?
You can just remove it if you don't want it. To my knowledge, it is an equalizer for your phones speaker and earpiece. You can change it to how you want..but if you don't want it, just remove it. No need to get all feisty ;p
Sent from my rockin 3D
If used correctly you can dramatically improve sound quality with speaker headsets and bluetooth
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Increases functionality and customization of your sound output on your phone's 4 different output methods (earpiece, speaker, BT, and headphone jack I believe as well)
Every time I opened it it would force close, so I removed it.

because there's a serious low volume issue on the 3D
we need everything possible to try to make the sound louder
I like the EQ, it comes in handy with apps like tune in and other apps where a little sound boost is needed.

If you already have an equalizer or other volume increasing app, it will conflict with dsp manager and vice versa. You can only have one. If you don't have anything conflicting with it like that and want to try it, maybe someone can help you get the apk to install manually. It really does make things sound great. Though I liked Equalizer from the market better.

[FIX] DSPManager v1.0 (ICS 4.0.3/SENSE 3.6+4.0)

There's been talk in a lot of different device forums about DSPManager having no function or constantly force closing. The discussion here will be for sense 3.6/4.0 and ICS 4.0.3
I started a thread HERE on how to get DSPManagers' various functions to work properly but my previous method did not work for sense 3.6 or sense 4.0. Any development or ideas are more than welcome in this thread. I have made progress to a certain point but my inexperience makes it hard for me to pinpoint the cause of certain issues such as the app force closing.
Update 5/6/12
-No app force close selecting any enhancement
-All enhancements function properly
-Only got DSP v1.0 working(not V2)...for now
WARNING - This process will disable all other HTC audio effects (beats, srs, etc.) Other market app equalizers and sound enhancement software also may conflict with DSP so keep that in mind.
Awesome work. Can't wait to install and test.
Tested on MeanROM ICS 0.9. Caused the Music app to not be able to play music (said that the files were not supported). Had to dirty flash ROM to fix.

I had that issue some time ago...for me it was a temporary problem with the music app, when I tracked ahead or went to Library>Song it played my music after that. I don't think that issue is directly related to the files flashed in this .zip

With me, every song I selected did not work. I went into my library and selected different songs and kept getting the file type not supported error (which I normally do not get and did not get after reflashing the ROM).
According to MikeyXDA, global Beats breaks DSP Manager, Volume +, etc.

Also, the other guy above (mozman) seems to be having the same issue I did:

Hope that helps your quest to fix DSP Manager. When I get a chance, I'll try to reflash the DSP Manager zip and do as you suggest.
I'm running cleanrom which doesn't have beats. I warned of other eq's hampering dsp's ability to function properly. I've seen beats work along side dsp but I would attempt to disable any beats audio stuff first then try dsp.

I don't know how to disable Beats (Mikey has not put out a way to disable Beats in his ROM). Thanks for the suggestion about CleanROM. I'm also thinking of trying ViperROM for the same reason. I can use DSP to make a better sound than Beats.

I've confirmed what you have said about beats and dsp. You must've been talking about using headphones which indeed will cause that error of not playing a file. I use Bluetooth devices so I'm fortunate to not have that issue. Try going into Apps>All and disable Music Enhancer. See if that works.
EDIT - nevermind I didn't have my headphones powered on everything worked fine, you should just try to reflash the Rom then the zip.

I know I'm the only one replying, but I really want DSP to work with Beats like it does on GB. So, I installed MeanROM 1.0 then flashed the zip. Using headphones, press play on song and get the unsupported file error. Select HTC Enhancer, song plays, then select Beats and the song plays, but DSP changes do not make any change to the sound. The app loads and changes can be made, but the sound does not change tone at all. When I try to play the next song, I get the unsupported file type error again and have to go through the above steps.

Your wish is granted my friend. Aamikam released v1.0 of MikVirgin. He was the first dev that I know of to get beats over bluetooth. The changlog states he has working DSPv2 as well!! I'm downloading it now I suggest you try it.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1654131
Anyone know if there has been any progress on getting DSP v2 for Sense 3.6 and 4 working?
thanks.. i'm going to try it..
DSPManager2
I experimented and come up with something that works for me. I have evo 3d s-off running viper 3d, it is sense 4.1
I just keep the sound enhancer on beats audio and do my EQ adjusting with DSP manager 2
You can try it and see. Just make a backup before flash!
DSP Manger
You may have to put sound enhancer on no effect for dsp manager2 to work on some roms.
Wow.
I really appreaciate this update. I didn't want to move out from CM by this.
Now I'm running ICS on Inspire4G using Trickdroid, this is the only component that was missing to be happy again!

DSP manager / CM9

Hi there.
How to manage DSP on Cianogen 9 ROM?
I tried DSP manager and Awesome Beats but they don't work...
Tks!!
DSP Manager works fine for me as long as I'm running CM9 kernel. If you use another kernel chances are it won't work unless it's supported on the kernel side. If you're using Siyah, don't expect CM9 DSP Manager to work anytime soon; Gokhan is too busy to get it working.
Edit - If you're using a music app with it's own EQ/plugins, you probably won't notice DSP Manager unless you have EQ set to flat & any settings which 'colour' the music off.
Further edit - With Beats, I doubt you'll notice DSP Manager no matter what you do given how ridiculously bassy they are.

try clearing data/cache of that app and see if it wrk's
Already done, no luck for me...
Just use fe. PowerAMP for music and/or Equalizer for overall eq...
Got them, but i can say the result will never be like using the DSP, dynamics and frequency range are so much limited...
Rubbish. Clean your ears out.
Poweramp's EQ & other settings you can use to colour music are much better than DSP Manager. And get some decent headphones as well, that might help
Dear, I've been using Poweramp and Equalizer for years.
1st there's no compression, and compression is mandatory to get something good off the worst yamaha this mobile integrates.
Then, all effect are not so deep like with DSP, it seems that DSP uses some hardware aids.
I use Bose in-ear, except for low frequencies they're not so bad...
Common sense says if you have a problem with CM9, you ask in the CM9 discussion thread. But if you want to sit in this thread & hope someone comes along & helps you with a problem that seems to be only happening for you, be my guest.

I mean hardware DSP...
I've tried many different dspmanager apks and libs and never managed to get any working apart from DSP Manager V1 which if I remember correctly was included in the release candidates of CM9. That still works if you take the apk from one of the RC builds and overwrite the one in CM9.1 and possibly other CM9 related ROMs.
A better solution though was to flash this instead - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709497
Even though this is for a different model of phone, it gives you the latest version of DSP Manager on CM9.1 on the SGSII and it works perfectly.
Give it a try but remember...do a backup first before flashing!
