question about atrix - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

just got my atrix and the gut said he unlocked the bootloader for me,how can and what do i have to check to see if im ready to put roms on my atrix i just dont want to brick it?

This will give you a basic build of 2.3.4 and an unlocked bootloader, but you need an AT&T phone on 4.1.83 firmware:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1142674
After that, if you do it successfully, you can flash any roms and kernels you want.
Have fun, and be careful!
Cheers

Not true! It will not say unlocked anymore if an earlier firmware was flashed after it was unlocked. The word "unlocked" will not appear unless you go through unlocking again. The phone would still be unlocked, as it is permanent when done, but you wouldn't be able to see the word "unlocked" unless you did this.
Now you can scroll back to the quoted post and hit the "unthanks" button! LOL

You need Tenfars CWM for bootloader unlocked Atrix. You can find it in the development forum.

I'm guessing you bought it used?

[Q] Motorola Atrix Re-lock Bootloader

I may have to return my ATRIX due to Let'sTalk horrible customer service, but I was wondering if there is anyway to re-lock the Bootloader, or to hide the fact that it says, Unlocked. Thank you in advanced
Also, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section, as this is urgent to me and I have yet to see any otherpost relating this topic.
There is another topic like this.
No you can't re-lock and no you can't "hide" the unlock wording. Sorry.
Sent from my AWESOME Atrix
Assume you installed 2.3 using CWM, if that is the case, you can flash the stock 1.8.3. Because the bootloader is not compatible with the unlocked phones, it won't show the "unlocked" text when you turn on the phone. I have tried it when I was trying to get rid if the unlocked text.
The down side is, you won't be able to flash custom ROM until you flash a compatible bootloader.

But downgrading will hard brick the phone.be very very carefully.
Reflash To Stock
Unfortunately, there is no way to relock a bootloader. Hence all of the warnings when you committed
but, if you use 4.5.91 the software at the address below should reinstall the newest stock software...
direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/motosupport/source/SoftwareUpdateSelect.asp?country=USA&language=ENS
be careful because Im not sure how motorola update will react to an unlocked bootloader. Ask around...do so at your own risk.
If you want to try a harder, albeit, safer method, and you are sure that you do not have a phone running 4.1.5.91, you can restore your phone to a factory SBF with this process:
briefmobile.com/motorola-atrix-4g-system-boot-file-sbf-leaked
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TRY TO RESTORE A 4.5.91 system to stock with RSD LITE.
To go to any of the blue webaddresses above, copy-paste them into your browser. Sorry, but I am not allowed to post links yet.
I wonder why nobody has created a CWM downgrade for US Atrixes. NFHimself made one for Bell or international users to go to 2.2.2 Bell and it works really well. Pretty much every partition is replaced. Great for masking that your boot loader is unlocked. Someone should probably do that for ATT to make downgrading less risky than flashing an sbf again...

The downgrading and hard brick problem stems from using the OTA update, so you won't hard brick if for example you upgraded with KP's 4.5.91.
You also should be able to flash the 4.5.91 SBF. You just can't downgrade. There are other threads about this.

The reason the fruitcakes were created and deemed safe by the devs were because it didn't touch the BL, which people believe to be the culprit behind the hard bricks. NFhimself was brave enough to testing flashing the BL via cwm in his gobstopper on international phones, but I don't think any other devs are willing to risk hard bricking their phones by testing that theory on US phones.
There also isn't enough "reward" for doing so because if people want to downgrade they can use a fruitcake. The only gain is to get rid of the "unlock" text. But if you were really that concerned about it despite reading all the warnings of this will void you warranty, you shouldn't have unlocked in the first place.

Hi,
One of the reasons I did up a default CWM of 2.2.2 is to have a means of doing a reset after trying all ATT/ORANGE/TELSTRA/MOVIESTAR/etc firmwares out there which may have side effects or accumulated side effects. Hence the inclusion of the stock bootloader and radio and a write of the extra partitions to clean up whatever mix and match leftovers are in there from the various carriers. The other big one is just to be able to get a Bell OTA applied when it comes out, it will probably be similar to the leak, but best to be safe.
This is more of a Bell/Intl issue as ATT folks tend to run just ATT firmware or flash just boot and system via CWM/fastboot and don't have the same issues as flashing a sbf file.
Both the stock 2.2.2 and leaked ap20 OTA bootloaders from Bell are safe to flash after IHOP, this is not the case with ATT bootloaders and may be the case for any included in a sbf file. Finding out the hard way is not an option.
Cheers!

Flashing the 4.5.91 SBF will remove the "unlocked" text. It doesn't re-lock the BL.

thank you.
But I am trying it right now. I am flashing back to stock GB as we speak and going to test it.
So let me see if I understand (I read a few articles about this) I don't have to be rooted to flash this? What I'm wondering is if I do flash this without root and unlocked bootloader, how would I go about reverting back to Gingerbread if I wanted too?

In my observations you would be able to flash it fine without root. But in order to go back to GB you would need to unlock your hboot. You'll be able to unlock it after you flash.

im no expert by any means but if i had to guess you would have to unlock your bootloader then flash a custom recovery then modify your main ver of your phone like what this thread says http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526316
there is a easy flashable in recovery zip in i think post #4 of that fourm that might be easier than the tool in post #1 of the forum.
but you will probably want to wait for someone to answer who acually tested it or know for sure.

True. If he tried to go back to GB after flashing the ICS he would get the mainver error if he tried flashing a boot.img in hboot. If he used fastboot to flash the boot.img he would get no error.
So I'm running rooted stock with an unlocked bootloader at the moment. If I wanted to flash this, do I need to re-lock the bootloader?

Yeah, I got the phone from a local Verizon employee the day it came out. It came in a white box. Pretty cool that it is S-Off. The plastic faceplate has a crack through it though, I think the quality control might have been skipped on these employee versions. I never dropped it, the crack just appeared.
Anyway back to Roms. I hope it is true that I can just flash a rooted rom. Anybody know for sure?
Is there a way to pull a copy something off of the phone to help with the ongoing s-off efforts?

what is your hboot?
is it an ENG hboot or is it the stock hboot_1.02.0000?
if ENG you could pull that it could be of use if/when s-off comes for this phone.
BUT it's really not a big deal as I already have a friend who does have the ENG hboot for this phone so he will be giving me it, just wondering if you have it as well, and if they would be the same.

If Let's Talk ships my unlocked developer edition despite my cancel request, I'm going to have two Ones and it would be easiest to return the 32GB AT&T model.

If you turn it in to the store you might as well leave it unlocked. They won't notice. If you relock your bootloader I'm pretty sure it will just say relocked, it won't go back to locked anyway.

yeah, you're right.. I just saw that in another thread.
They wouldn't see it unless they booted it up in bootloader mode, so I guess returning it won't be an issue as long as someone posts the stock recovery at some point in the next 2 weeks.

I dont even think the recovery matters, just reset factory settings before going in and you should be fine. Ive returned a good amount of phones, and most were bootloader unlocked. Never got questioned once, they didnt even care.
