Difference between Galaxy tabs - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just brought a galaxy tab 10.1 and when I came to the development forums I see there's one for the 10.1 and a 10.1v how do I know which I have? Sorry if it's a stupid question I haven't been following this tab

the 10.1v is the Vodafone one that came out months ago.

OK thanks alot I wanted to make sure I don't flash anything wrong

Is there no way to see this in the software in some way? I face the same problem as the thread starter, I have no previous experience of tabs and was given this Tab 10.1 by my wife. Hell-no that I will guess and possibly brick my device because of not knowing if this is a "v" or not.
- Bought in Sweden in August 2011, using a leather cover bought from the US and it fits perfectly.
please, how do I define it "v" or "not v" ?

Their basically the same... The GT 10.1v came out first and is only sold over seas(non US) , then Samsung redesigned it so that it would be thinner than the IPad2. That's pretty much it.... and the 10.1v has a 8meg camera and the 10.1 only has a 3meg camera.
Check out this link, the Tab at the top is the 10.1v and the Tab at the bottom is the 10.1.

Hah, wrong thread. Long day.
Anyways the 10.1v is significantly thicker than the 10.1. If you know how thin an iPad 2 is, the 10.1 is comparable to that. The 10.1v is much thicker than an iPad 2 (closer to iPad 1 in thickness).

[Q] Tab 10.1...newbie question about 10.1v

Hello,
I'm considering the Tab 10.1 or 10.1v. I thought I had done my research before, but was surprised to find out there's two different version of the tab 10.1: the v and non-v version.
Excuse my newbie questions...I tried to do my due diligence with searching the forum and the web first.
I'll summarize what I've found. Besides the slight changes in specification, are there any other user experience changes that aren't listed in the spec sheet? Is it obvious / easy to tell which version is at Best Buy if you go and look?
I read that one of them has different size partitions that make rooting more difficult - is that still the case?
And why did Samsung come out with two version of the 10.1 that's so similar? Is one of them newer than the other?

Edit: I used to have a Transformer, but it died on me. I'm assuming the user experience on the Transformer would be about the same as the Samsung? I can install apps via android market, or Amazon's android app store? I can root like I can with the Transformer?
Samsung is superior. Much better display and no bleeding (lighter areas on the corners).
10.1v is the first model only published through vodafone, 10.1 the new one. 10.1v has the better cam but is pretty fat compared to the new model.
i suggest you go with 10.1, the smaller one.

i own a 10.1v myself. "pretty fat" actually means smaller than the ipad1. it isn't really fat. it's just about 2mm thicker than the 10.1, but definetly not fat!
personally, i do like the handling of the 10.1v more than the 10.1 or ipad2, because of the textured back.

Yes it is. The US doesn't stock the 10.1v

Does the release of the source to the GTab 7 Plus and GTab 10.1N affect us at all?

Apparently it just happened. I was curious as to whether this was something we already had for the 10.1 or if it was something that might help in future ROM development.
Don't know how different GTab7 is from the 10.1 (but I expect its real close) but the 10.1n is only different in its looks. The 10.1n is just a cosmetic redesign so it can be sold in Germany and most likely Australia to.

[Q] T-Mobile Samsung Tab 10.1

I've seen a few posts about this, but nothing definitive on whether anyone is actually working on any ROMs for the 10.1 Tab from T-Mobile (I picked one up about a month ago). I'm actually only looking for a stock ROM I can flash should I screw something up (which I kinda sorta did, but it's not something I can't recover from). When I got the device, and before I rooted it, I did go through and install some things and tweak some settings, then I rooted it, made a Nandroid Backup that I'm hoping is still recoverable (with all my changes), but I'd like to be able to go back to stock and start over whenever I feel the need.
Also, for getting any cases/accessories that require a certain size, which model which I be looking for, the 7500v, 7510, 3G model, etc (I don't know all the model numbers, just throwing these out there). It seems that the US Wifi version is the same size, but hoping others have already had experience with this. For now, I have a cheapo case off of eBay, just looking to upgrade to something nice.
Ive been lookin for cases too and if i find anything good ill let you know. I saw one on the t-mobile website that had a keyoard in the fold down case. Only question is where to get it cheaper.

Have a look on the box and you'll notice whether you've the 7500 or 7510 - I believe the difference being that one's the 10.1 and one the slightly thicker 10.1v with an 8mp rear camera.
There is no physical difference on the 10.1 between WiFi and 3G models except for the SIM cover on the top side. The 10.1v has different dimensions and a different back cover IIRC.
If the back of the Tab is plain of one colour except for a light Gray bezel around the camera, you have the 10.1 - if the back is full black with a circular effect in the middle it's the 10.1v.
EDIT: If you have the 10.1 (NOT the V), my personal favourite case is the Samsung Book Cover. It adds a fair bit of weight but very little bulk, lets you rest the device (almost) flat, raised for typing, or raised for video etc, and being an official product means the Tab fits perfectly and you can access everything very easily. http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab-accessories/EFC-1B1NBEGSTA

The T-Mobile Tab is the same size as the standard P7500/P7510 so all the accesories should work. The Samsung OEM Bluetooth keyboard is fantastic and the most integrated and compact solution available. It's pricey but really high quality.

The best all-around case I've found is pretty cheap and available on Amazon. It's slim, well made, and sturdy.

Thanks for the replies, that helps in terms of the size/form factor. Any thoughts on the ROM situation? I'm just looking to have a stock ROM handy in case things go wacky on me.

Samsung Compares Note 10.1 To iPad

http://news.cnet.com/8301-17852_3-57394231-71/samsung-the-new-ipad-is-no-work-of-art/?tag=rtcol
Cnet has a pretty good write up talking about it, but I thought it odd, but interesting, to compare something so small to something so big. While I don't agree that one requiring a full size dedicated tablet could easily forego that need in favor of a Note, I do find that they offer up some good talking points. I gave up my nook color for the time being, things are working out well for me so far, but time will tell.
Edit: Added pic.
They are comparing the note 10.1 which i believe is a soon to b released tablet... Not our phone so not sure why the guy is talking about our phone in the article????

Looks like it is a comparison to the Note 10.1 tablet.

Yea I caught that after posting and while reading comments on article. Wasn't aware of a 10.1 Note in the works. Will be interesting to see what churns out. I kinda like the idea of side by side apps...dead space and shadow gun at the same time...hmmm
Maybe you should change the TITLE to reflect it is the 10.1
I like the paper and pen quibble.

Far ENOUGH. TITLE should make THINGS clearer, figured it MAY be easier then RANDOMLY capitilizing works in our SENTENCES to get our POINT across.

Just wait until Samsung OFFICIALLY announces the tab 10.1/11.6 perhaps even today . Just like before right after Apple releases their iPad Samsung will come out and top it. Last year Samsung went ahead and changed the ergonomics of the Tab 10.1 within weeks to have a slimmer lighter tablet compared to the iPad lol .
It was originally rumored to have a dual core CPU that similar to our Note phones with the same resolution. I have a really really good feeling that will not be the case that it could have a even faster CPU, & mind you that have not even said what the GPU is. I can assure you that Samsung has prob made changes to that of the specs we seen at Mobile World Congress, i hope
They will not let Apple go about their glory without a fight. Especially after them taking shots at the Galaxy tab during their keynote. Which someone at Samsung has already commented on lol.
Samsung has a rumor going around that they are "pocketing" a Galaxy Note tab 11.6" with a resolution of 2650x1600 beating out the new ipad by a million pixels.
Either way Samsung has something big today at 4pm central. Could it be the new Note tablet, ICS for our Notes? Galaxy S3. Who knows its still Samsung so lets not hold our breath lol.
I dunno about you but id love to buddy up my Galaxy Note with a 11.6" version
Well they I kinda only compared one set of features that really were pretty much the same thing. Cool but they over looked a lot of stuff on the iPad. This is coming from someone who hates apple products.
Sent from the best phone in the world Galaxy Note!!!
I will be interested in the Galaxy Note 10.1 once it comes out. I just pre ordered the new ipad. (I had a $500 gift card from a sales contest). It delivers March 16th. Depending on when the Galaxy Note 10.1 is coming out, I may sell the ipad. Does anyone know when it is coming?
I love Apple products, as a shareholder! Wish Samsung was publicly traded in the US!

[Q] 7+ inch tablet which can be used as a phone?

One of my big disappointments with the Nexus 7 is that it can't be used as a phone (meaning GSM, not data/wifi-based).
As of now, it seems to me the best tablet which can be used as a phone is still the samsung galaxy tab 7.7 (assuming the Note 10.1 is too big to carry around, personal preference, that). Of course, that one looks like it's never getting JB or any other updates from Samsung (so much for the 1 and a half year pledge...).
Any other recommendations? Seen rumours of a 7 or 7.7-inch note, that would fit the bill assuming I can afford it.

well i think that any you find with celluar service is going to be data only, which would suck for calls. i think right now the note is still the best bet.

Really, only Samsung makes tablets with gsm? Note and note 2 is just a bit too small to be a hybrid device for me, would still need my galaxy tab 10.1 for music sheets etc that way...

Considered that but resolution of the display seems quite pitiful, really a budget device. Would prefer the 7.7. No non-Samsung possibilities?
