Case Mate Pop! Evo 3D Kickstand Case - HTC EVO 3D

It's $20 on amazon. The forum won't let me post pictures of it or links.
Does anyone have one, how sturdy is the kickstand, kinda looks a little flimsy to me? Also, can it withstand being dropped, saying on the corner of the phone? I know they make similar cases for other phones, and could only find a couple of youtube videos, but the guy didn't have the phone in the case nor try the kickstand out.
Thanks!
EDIT:
I went out and got it. It does cover the speaker, but it doesn't muffle the sound at all, or make it lower. The case is a pita to take off though, but I'm not planning on taking it off and on. I couldn't find a case that was a hybrid and had a kickstand besides this one. It has a raised edge over the front screen, so you dont have to worry placing it front facing on a surface. The cameras are also sunken into the case, so those will not get scratched from setting it down on it's back. The kickstand works in all three positions. So if you want to charge it while watching a movie you can. The kickstand may feel flimsy, but it locks into place and does the job. It has rubber at the end on it to make sure it stays put.
Overall it's a great shock absorbing case with a kickstand. I had a speck candy shell for my iPhone, and it saved my phone numerous times getting out of cars and trucks with my phone on my lap and forgetting about it and it hits the asphalt, and I'm confident this case will do the same.

I think it looks pretty sweet!!!

This case from CaseMate blocks the speaker on the back

I got this case for free at the place I got my 3D cause they took days to get me a replacement handset. I've used it once and will never use it again. It is hard to put on and a pain in the ass to take off. It latches on to your battery door like a pit bull and contorts it when trying to take it off. The kickstand seems really frail too.

This case looks good, but its a no go if it covers the speaker. Any way to cut out a piece around the speaker?

Didn't know that you could stand it horizontally on both sides. That's neat. Any pics of the kickstand itself?

It REALLY was a major pain to take off. Impossible for someone who plans on swapping out batteries a lot. And it also made it extremely difficult to turn the phone on and off via the power switch. I'm sending it back.
I'm going to get this one when I get refunded for the Casemate.

Yeah, I don't plan on swapping batteries. I rather have something that's going to protect my phone from drops, seeing how I do that a lot when getting out of the car,

i work for sprint so i get to test cases and other stuff out all the time. this case is sweet looking on the phone, although its a little bulky. as stated before on this thread, its a pain in the a** to take off and its a pain to turn on and off via the power switch. the kickstand is very very flimsy as well. too bad cuz this is the sweetest looking case out there with a kickstand.
comes in black also.

I ordered one and it showed up today, I'm definitely a fan. I had one of the cheap snap together cases, and sadly that actually scratched the phone cause it didnt fit tight enough to keep dirt out.. this is so much better. feels so much more solid in my hands, and well protected. swapping batteries.. yeah it makes that a pain. but it's a price I'm willing to pay. And the kickstand seems flimsy but it does the job, I have a hard time believing it'll be a problem cause it's actually so flexible, probably pretty hard to break it.

Dude how did u get it to stand up with the charging port on top?? Everytime i try the kickstand closes and the phone falls over....
R.I.P. HD2 hello EVO 3D!!

Yes there is. the rubber is very soft on the inside so I got a razor blade and cut the section out rite over the speaker sound is a lot better now.

You have to open the kickstand up all the way. It almost opens to a 90 degree angle

If you open it all the way, it locks, then you're able to stand it on it.

Ive had this case (black) for 2 or 3 weeks. Its very tight on the phone, I like that it fits well and wont fall off. I do usually have to use a butter knife on the bottom (no buttons to ruin) to pry it off. I love it. Ive seen it in Black White and Pink. Got it on ebay for $20. The kick stand is kinda flimsy, but hasnt fallen off yet. Hope this helps.

It is a great case I have had mine for a few weeks the only problem I have with it is it will block a little bit of the 4g signal. I have tested it its not a big issue but is ur signal is week it will kick u off 4g

[REVIEW] Asus Sleeve Review PICTURES GALORE!

Just got it today from Newegg. Came in a padded large envelope.
It's nice feeling, I like the touch of the sleeve.
Inserting the Transformer is a bit hard, takes some force to slide it in.
Very form fitting, but it still does move around in the case by itself.
Dust and pet hair stick to this thing like magnet!
Closing the sleeve is very satisfying, feels like it's magnetized (but not).
When inserted correctly so the rear camera is perfectly centered, the sleeve does look like it blocks the light sensor and front camera, but it does not.
When the Transformer in the sleeve is position in it's two "modes" it bounces a lot. Tapping the screen bounces the Transformer. Especially bothersome if you're playing a game.
I don't like the way the Transformer is in the case. It should be the other way around.
If you're just holding the Transformer the correct way, the flap of the sleeve hangs down towards you, so you have to fold it back and hold it. It would have been better if it was the other way, so the flap is on top. (Of course you can put the Transformer upside down, but you won't have access to power/volume/etc...)
Obviously they didn't do this because of the rear camera, but the way it is right now, it's still sorta weird, you'd have a huge flap hanging down while you take a picture with the rear camera.
One other thing I don't like are the edges. The case is made of 2 pieces that's glued and crimped at the edges, like a ravioli. It bugs when holding the unit in the sleeve.
In all, it's ok, it'll work until something better comes along (doubt it). Before the sleeve I just had my Transformer sitting on my desk while charging overnight. So this will be nice to keep it protected a bit. Also having it on the low stand mode in front of my in front of my computer monitor is great.
One last thing. You can't close the lid while it's charging/plugged in.
EDIT: After a week's use:
This Sleeve IS NOT going to last. I've taken it in and out of the case several times, used it in front of my computer in both "modes", used it on the bed next to me, used it on me in bed, moved it around, held it portrait while playing a game, used it with the cover folded to the back, taken it to the bathroom, etc,, etc,, etc,, ....
The way the Tablet rests on the opening, is wearing out the fold. It's going to wear out and rip soon.
Right now this is the ONLY real case for the Transformer, and if you have to have one, I guess get it.
I want InCase to make a case for this, but seems like they're Apple fans only. I want a rubberized snap on back case with a hard cover or something.
EDIT: I wish for a case like the Xoom has by Motorola: http://goo.gl/RdLrU

Yes. Only the center USB/charging port is accessible.
I bought one myself from newegg as well... nice sleeve, but definitely not worth $40 IMO. But i guess we pay a premium for being impatient.
Maybe I am crazy but I think Asus screw up on the cover. I noticed on mines that the Asus logo is upside down, meaning that if you flip open the lid with the ASUS LOGO (facing up) the tablet is upside down.

That's my complaint.
If you have the sleeve closed and looking at the front with ASUS correct, then you flip open UP the cover, yes your Transformer is upside down.
I too don't like this, especially some fullscreen apps, won't rotate EVERY direction, so if you have the Transformer in the case, tilted on the desk, the app will be upside down since you're using the Transformer upside down.

OK, that's a deal breaker for me
I just take a pet hair roller to it, comes right off I like the case, but if one comes along that has the same functionality but doesn't cling to (or at least show it as well) dust and hair, I'm on it.
Just got mine. It is a really nice fit, and actually feels pretty good quality (still not worth $40 ).
I see exactly what you guys are talking about: I guess it just depends on which way you have it oriented. Either way there will be a time when it's going to be upside down, so I guess there was really nothing they could have done.
Oh well. I just wanted a case that could stay on it while I used it. This gets the job done. I feel like it will do a pretty good job protecting it.
Yeah, it's definitely not perfect - I also just noticed that the microSD is blocked (why would they do that?). And it's not worth $40, imo - more like $20. Still, our options are limited right now so it's still better than not having anything at all.

Agreed!
I wouldn't mind using one of those cheap $15 ebay or buy.com cases with the simulated leather. They use magnets for closing, have a bit more padding for protection, and are a bit more rigid.

The thinking is probably that, with the exception of the volume buttons (and Asus logo if you're anal), the orientation of Honeycomb tablets isn't all that important due to the lack of buttons on the face of the tablet. I keep mine in the typing position mostly, and I've gotten used to the volume being upside-down Though it might be cool if there was an option to flip the volume keys automatically when flipping the tablet.
Got mine this morning. It's definetly not worth 40 dollars but its not too bad of a case and the only realistic option at the moment.

Now with the tablet standing up its 10x much easier to use, no more sore neck.
anyone know where i can find in stock apart from newegg... I just had a few issues with newegg before and don't wish to buy from them they just pissed me off.
most all cases like this have the same orientation. xoom case that i have is the same way. I just always used the xoom upside down since most things work like that anyway.
Thanks for the pictures OP. After all the "It's definitely not worth $40" comments, I'm seriously considering cancelling my Amazon order.
Does anybody know of any other decent cases?

There's no other case that's specially made for the Transformer that can do what the Asus Sleeve does.

Body Glove Vibe w/ 3-way kickstand - Depurplized - *Now with Inductive Charging!!

You've probably all seen this case on the Sprint site. It seemed to be just what I was looked for. A solid case (don't care for rubbery) with kickstand. Why they only offer this in purple is beyond me. Google searching only showed pink as an alternative. But I was really liking the idea of the kickstand that props it 3 ways. It's a really smart idea. So I picked up a purple one from the sprint store. I figured I'd paint it or skin it somehow. A trip to the hardware store found me some paint for plastic that had a bit of texture. I was worried that a glossy or even a dull spray paint would look cheap. But this has a "hammered" finish. The cap had a nice feel to it (which is supposed to be the same texture as the paint). So I tried it.

The case has a VERY glossy smooth purple coat. I figured no paint would stick so I took some 180-grit sandpaper to it to remove some of the gloss. In one spot I sanded long enough to remove the paint to see what the plastic was like. It was black and it didn't look too bad. Smooth, kind of dull, but not bad. Based on that, I thought I would remove all the purple paint....stupid. Took a while and when it was done the plastic looked crappy. No problem cause I had the paint anyway.
Following the directions, two THIN coats within a few minutes and 24 hours to dry.
I didn't know what to expect cause after all, it's just spray paint. The texture looked nice, but I waited the full 24 before I felt it. Hoping it wasn't too cheap or sticky feeling, I gave it a go. AWESOME. It has exactly the texture I would have hoped for. I mean, I'd prefer a matte finish like the battery cover. But short of that, it's great. Smooth enough to feel nice, textured enough to not be slippery. For a $5 can of spray paint, I'm impressed. The paint seems to have adhered to the plastic very well.
Check it out. Sorry for the poor lighting, but you can get a idea of color and texture.
I've also got a can of clear enamel. I thought I would need it, but after feeling how this came out, I don't want to chance it being worse (sticky, too slippery, or even spider cracking). Maybe some of you painting experts can chime it and tell me if I'll really need it. So far I'd say no. My only worry is durability, but after a few days, it's great. I thought it'd be most susceptible to wearing off within the first few days, but nothing of the sort. I've not been exactly gentle with it either. If it holds up looking and feeling this good, I'm very happy.
Other thoughts:
-The 3-way kickstand is sweet. Holds solid. Less tippy than my evo 4g on it's kickstand. Especially with the charging cord connected.
-The camera ends up recessed a few mm. Feel perfectly safe setting it down.
-The screen is also recessed a couple mm. So it won't rub on a flat surface if you set it down.
-The top and bottom are NOT PROTECTED. Not a big deal to me, but some might not like it. If it fell straight, the top or bottom should barely hit if at all. If it fell at just the right angle, top and bottom are scratched.
-I'd prefer a metal kickstand, but this is about a solid as a plastic one gets. The mechanism is a bit unique with a sliding pivot. It clicks open and closed.
Overall, really happy so far. Just couldn't deal with that purple, ugh.
7/20/11 - Inductive Charging - Touchstone style.
Ok, so I had 2 Palm Pre phones in the house and 3 touchstones doing nothing. So I was inspired by drinkwd40's guide on Good and Evo. However, instead of pulling the battery cover off, I decided to do it in the case. There is enough room to fit all the parts with little change in the fit of the case. The biggest difference is that the screen is only recessed about 1mm now instead of 2.
Sorry for some of the pics. Gotta get more light in my man-cave.
Touchstone parts
What I did different is that I didn't use the magnets. I know, I know...That's most of the cool factor with the touchstone. It's true. But I like the idea of a working compass. So I didn't use the small metal discs in the case and I took apart the touchstone to remove the magnets. Now it is more like a powermat type thing.
Here is the how the receiver parts fit in the case.
The worst part was hacking up a usb cable and trying to play nice with the pins. I used an epoxy nub on the plug to cover everything. I left it to stick out a bit so I can remove it easily for USB connection (need to get my root on!) as well as MHL when I can get an adapter. It sticks out about 2mm or so past the side of the case. I does't bother me at all because of where it is at. If I did it over again, I'd fight harder to get the nub a bit smaller. Something i may try to improve on later.
For now, I just put the touchstone in a simple enclosure so I can set the phone down and have it charge.
My plan is to make a nicer base for the touchstone. Probably one that props it up on an angle like the touchstone does.
Charging away!
Notes:
-The receiver adds just a bit of thickness behind the phone, so it pays to "shim" around other places to even it out. Otherwise it feels a bit uneven in the case. As it is now, the phone is nice and snug. Also, shimming it a bit will make sure the case doesn't bulge at all.
-I haven't noticed that it takes any longer to charge, but I haven't had it working but a couple days.
-I wonder if having the touchstone receiver constantly connected via the usb port will actually draw down the battery any. I hope not since this must be how Palm designed it, but who knows?
-Just having the coil behind the phone makes the compass a bit off. But it still seems to work, just slightly off. In the year I had my OG EVO, I used the compass like 3 times for Google Sky Map. But with more and more AR apps around, I'd like to keep it functional, just in case. If I remove the coil, it seems to line up correctly again. So I could always just pull the phone out of the case.
-On the kickstand with the connector down, it stands on the nub just a bit. No biggie at all, doesn't tip or anything. Here's where I could make it a bit smaller.
A hard case that doesn't add too much bulk, in a color I like, with a kickstand that props the phone 3 ways, and wireless charging!... If I can't be happy with that, I don't know what would do it. Too much work though
8-2-11 Update
Got a few more pics of the charging base and the case after I added clear coat.
Basically I just cut the bottom of the charging box I had made with the touchstone in it. Now it holds the phone on an angle like the touchstone would.
The round felt pads are to level things out while its on the charger.
The clear coat took much of the hammered texture feel away, but added a smoothness that is kind of nice as well. It's not slippery at all and I feel like I'm not wearing into the paint now. Here's how it turned out.
I doesn't look too much different, but does have a different feel to it. I like it.
Someone asked what it is like behind the kickstand. Here's a pic where you can see the touchstone coil because it is totally open under the kickstand.
I think I'm done now. Of course, that's what I said last time...
Looks nice!
That does look nice. =)
I'm not too familiar with this case so I have one quick question about the kickstand. When it's not in use and is collapsed, is there a way to lock the kickstand from re-opening?
Thanks.
Good job it looks better. I haven't seen the purple one but I've seen a red version which didn't look that good either.
Nice job man!! I also could not do the purple or the red. Why in the world would that not offer it in black or gray? Makes no since to me...

Yes, the kickstand has small plastic latches on the bottom that hold it closed. No worries about it opening on its own.
Plus the kickstand is not floppy at all. The slide mechanism has some friction. If you had it unlatched and shook the phone around, the kickstand wouldn't move. It latches both fully open and fully closed.
Do you have to sand it? Call me lazy but it would be nice just to paint over it. And thanks for the heads up. It looks great.

You could try it with no sanding. It's just that the purple is so glossy, it may have trouble sticking. I didn't try so I don't know for sure.
Honestly 15 minutes worth of light sanding should be more than enough to remove the gloss. You just want a little more texture for the paint to adhere to.
Love this case but wit the gay colors that's a no no for me Lol, if there was a black one I'm sold.

Okay, now that you've had it a few days, how do you feel about the kickstand? Do you think it will be able to handle the wear and tear of everyday use? Thanks for your input. It's very much appreciated.

I'd say the kickstand will hold up fine if you don't use it constantly. If you are always clicking it in and out of the back, then the little nubs that hold it might wear off after a while. Easily fixed tho. And it is plastic, so it can break if you are too rough, but it's not too flimsy. Better than I expected anyhow.

That was work a bit of work, let me tell ya...

a couple weeks in now and the hammered black is holding up good. I never did clear coat it. Still can I guess. Let me know how it works out for you guys.
I also made the touchstone charger look much nicer. I'll throw up a couple more pics soon.
I must say, the paint makes it easier to hold, and I like that. It's worth painting if only to make it less slick, but the hammered black looks good anyway.

Bent my LTEVO today... Can the issue be fixed permanently?

As the title says, I somehow managed to bend my phone today... Sitting in my shirt pocket without moving, pulled it out and it was bent.
Bent it back without issue but it has me wondering... Is there anything we can add to the phone itself to make it more rigid? Maybe do a One X back swap with a cutout for the kickstand (pipe dream probably)? I may even give up the kickstand for a properly supported backplate.
I'm currently using a Cruzerlite TPU case, which I love, and I don't want to get rid of it for something more rigid (and thicker), so I'm curious what other options there are? I'm not opposed to taking the phone apart and looking into some options... Maybe even something like thin metal rods that can be fed through the kickstand with a couple of small holes?
If there's no way to fix the issue permanently, I'm honestly very tempted to look into some other phone choices... I'm cautious with my phone (which is why I put the phone in my shirt pocket instead of my pants pocket in the first place) and it still happened. Next time I might not be so lucky on bending it back, and I'm not ready to fork out the $100 for insurance to replace a phone with (what I consider to be) a defect.
Am I crazy for expecting my phone to stay in one piece like every other phone I've owned, or is this the way phones are moving towards (giving up build quality for thinness sake)?

Weld a support beam along the sides?
Really would need to be something along the back, and as wide as possible. Might take the phone apart to the bare pieces to see what we're working with.

then dont treat this thing like its "tough" because it obliviously is not. Hell, just look at this thing. This is a prime example on why devices like this should not be made this thin. And people wonder why their phone bends when they put it in a back pocket of a tight pair of jeans *rolls eyes*

i keep mine in my pocket too but this often happens because people are wearing pants and what not that are too tight thus, causing their phone to bend when the pants are constricted during movement.
Ex: putting phone in back pocket of jeans and bending over/sitting on it.
I have no sympathy for people who bend their phone doing these things. If people cant realize that aluminum wont bend on such a thin phone then its their own damn fault.

There is a long thread on this problem and it is bending in front pockets also. I really think the only thing to do is put a sturdy case over it.

As a former repair tech for Sprint, MOST stores will consider that physical damage. There are some, I was one of them, that would exchange it, under the right circumstances, but most will not. It will depend on the level of damage and with Assurion cracking down on Sprints exchange policy (Assurion doesn't just do replacements for damaged beyond repair, lost, or stolen... They do all refurbs as well) Sprint tech are being more selective about the phones for advance exchanges. Your absolute best bet, is a repair center at a Preferred Retailer. They have slightly looser rules and quotas to follow. Good luck guys!! Hope this helps.

For all you people talking about skinny jeans and what not, my phone is bent as well and I've put it in the leg pocket of my cargo shorts since the day I got it. As someone else said, there is another thread about this, it's a known issue. The phone tends to bend just above the kickstand. I bought an Otterbox Commuter in the hope that it will prevent my phone from getting worse. I've had a TPU case on it from the start but everyone has said really good things about the Otterbox so I figured I'd give it a try.

I'm kinda with this quote. I was being polite when I posted the link to the other thread on this very same issue.
The phone is solid guys. As a former repair tech for Sprint who has taken every single phone they sell apart, I can say this phone is sturdy. I have also taken this phone apart and beat on it pretty hard with power tools and an assortment of sand paper to polish the rear aluminum housing. I simply held it in my hand and sanded on it for hours, puttind a lot of stress on the part you guys are all calling weak, with out the screen or anything else the adding structural support.
I have had no issues what so ever and I only use a tpu case, if that.
If your phone is damaged, its not fair to place blame on anyone but yourselves, or possibly someone else if they were responsible.

New Zizo Bolt Holster/Kickstand Slim Armor Case

Just came across this new case while browsing Amazon to see if any new Idol 3 accessories have been produced. And to my luck there was. I was going to post this in the already created thread about posting which case you already own or want, but I feel creating a new thread informing those of new items would bring different cases/accessories more attention. Available in 10 color combinations and it includes a free tempered glass screen protector. No mention on the hardness scale of it however. Also includes a holster and kickstand. The case also has covers for the headphone jack and charging cable to prevent any dust getting in them. Anyways, here's the case:

Ordered the Red/Black combo near the end of the color selections (as they have 2 red/black cases). Hope the red is as dark as it is shown in the images.
I wish there was the same case for 4.7 but they're not going to produce it, only for 5.5

These cases seem to be newly released. Give it some time for a 4.7" version to be produced. You sound pretty confident though they won't ever release a 4.7 case. Do you know that for a fact?

They must think the 4.7 isn't as popular as the 5.5 but that's not true. I'm sure the userbase for 4.7 is just as strong as the 5.5 userbase. The phone being on Cricket shouldn't matter since the phone is available worldwide unlocked. The company must have some agreement with the carrier(s) they produce cases for that limits them.

Which color did you get? I got my case yesterday and it's great! I feel it's the best case out for the idol 3 in terms of design. I've tried a variety of cases and spent way too much money on the collection I have now because I couldn't find one I would want to use for a daily driver for long. But this case has everything. The built on dust plugs for the headphone jack and charging port is what makes it feel high end.
Good case, but...
I've had the case for a couple days now, I like the look and feel but the buttons don't go in all the way, at least not for my unit. Otherwise it would've been a fantastic case.

I'm currently rocking the black on black version of this thing and its doing the job but I would like dust plugs as my job can get quite dirty.

Nope I didn't end up with the button issues. The buttons are flush with the case so it is somewhat hard to press, but once you get used to the placement it'll be fine. It's not like you need to press with all your force to use a button. It's just like any standard case. Buy it and you'll see for yourself . I own the same black on black version of that case and it did a good job until I found this beauty of a case.

So I ordered the Zizo and the quality blows my old case out of the water. The buttons are actually more nice to press with the Zizo and I don't always accidentally change the volume accidentally while at work or working out.
The only thing I didn't like was the four fake screws they put in the back which serve no purpose other than I guess making your phone stable on flat surfaces. They make the phone super slippery when on its back though so I just popped them off pretty easily and tossed them.
Oh, and the case around the headphone jack is raised which will cause problems with larger aux cables for sure. This is a fairly common problem with a lot of cases I find though and I'll probably just cut the case away if I find it bothersome.
I have the all black and love the case! No button issues for me

Ok maybe I'm just missing the obvious but how do you get it back into it's "holster" after putting the case on it? I can see the clip should snap around it but I'm flexing it pretty hard and it's not sliding in....I don't think I should have to fight with it to get the phone to dock.

I know what you mean. I don't use the holster but for the hell of it tried putting it in the holster to see how it felt and it took a lot of pressure to get it on. On the left side of the case under the power button you'll see 2 black openings which are for the holster. I'd assume to make it easier you insert the left side of the case into the holster first and just pry the phone in completely on the right. Those 2 black openings are for the clips on the holster.

A lanyard strap that's included in the packaging. Never seen the point of keeping a phone on a lanyard so it's of no use for me. You get used to the design of it after a while.

It can also be used to attach a keychain...luckily still fits in the belt holsters I purchased sized to fit the iphone 6+. Tried the holster it comes with..still trying to get used it...easier to use if you remember to turn the screen to face INTO the holder instead of trying to mount it exposed which I was stupidly doing.
So you guys recommend the case? I just seen it the other day, ive been kinda on the fence about getting it since its more expensive and ive been through 3 other cases that ive hated, but i hate not having a case even more... I was wishing for a trident case but i doubt they will bother anymore, so this one looks like my only hope for decent drop protection.

Build quality: chipping scratching?

Hello everyone, since this thread was closed, I thought I'd reopen the discussion.
I'm currently waiting for my preorder to ship, but as of right now there is no specified date in Spain (just mid April). So I thought I'd ask you guys:
What do you think of the build quality? Do you see any potential issues in the near future? I saw the video of that guy scratch his G5 body very easily with a box cutter, of course, it's a box cutter! But do any of you think that will actually chip or scratch with normal usage? Like in your pocket, leaving it on the table, in your bag with other things? I do this all the time with my G4, G3, and every other device, but I have never seen such a video that a guy can literally take off the entire layer with little effort.
So people with devices, have any of you noticed or felt like the primer layer is weak or fragile enough to chip, break off, crack or come off by itself with little effort or every day wear? I'm planning on keeping this device for at least a year! (And yes, a case is on its way, but sometimes I do like to move around without a case - after all, these phones are designed without a case in mind...)
Thanks
The coating seems pretty durable, but I always use a skin on the phone so when I go to sell it it's in mint condition when I peel that skin off. I also keep the pocket it rides in free of other objects. I am sure if you took a box cutter to any phone, it would cause damage.

That's good to know. I just felt like in the video it looked like it was very "soft" or malleable. I just wanted to see what actual owners thought about it . I'm excited to get mine!
It's durable so far. been putting in my pocket with keys and no scratches, dents or dings. Dropped twice off the back of my couch last night onto my hard wood floor and my heart skipped a beat - no damage at all.
I prefer no case. The only thing that will really f-up your phone is dust/dirt as it will scratch everything

There are reports in some threads about small drops and keys dinging and scratching the phone.
With that said, it mostly depends on how it falls. I've heard of people's G4 body/screen cracking from five foot drops onto carpet. I've accidentally tossed mine eight feet in the air and had it land face down on pavement without a scratch, and that was using a Rinke Slim case.

From what I gather you need to intentionally cut into the phone in order to chip. Falls may do it too

And just to add, the phone though light has a solid heft to it (if that makes any sense). All of this talk of it being plastic has me fuming. I tapped the back and sides of the phone lightly on my granite counter top and there is no way in hell plastic makes a sound like that. I tried the same with my G3 and there are 2 distinct sounds...

What people i hear are saying is it does not feel like metal in the hand. LG promised, LG lied, we are disappointed, bla, bla....
it would seem that reviewers are adamant we should live in a world where ALL phones are anodised 'premium' flat slabs !!
Some companies beg to differ.
What is so godamn premium about aluminium. Its the cheapest metal to use. Its soft and dents like anything.

How is the leather back on the G4 holding up after nearly a year. Corners still peeling but never went beyond. The leather changed colour. The back on this is harder than leather.
So I appear to have developed a small chip on the top left side. I have been extremely careful with this phone in every way. Always in an empty pocket and set down carefully. Might have to get it exchanged.

See that's the thing, I didn't coddle my G4. I liked the feel of the leather, and I'm absolutely certain that I have bumped into stuff while it is in my pocket, that's the facts of life. You can't really avoid that. What I saw in another review yesterday was that in 8 days the device began to chip at the bottom where the magic slot is located. That's from normal usage. I'm very inclined to give it a shot! I loved and still love my G4, but I'm worried that the G5 might not hold up past a few months without seriously degrading the build quality [emoji19]

I hope you're wrong.
My 2 samsungs are very resistant : the Note 1 has felt 3-4 times, and the borders have just a liitle impact on a corner.
The Note 3 et Note 1 's paint are ok since the first day, no scratches, and the screens are ok too, without protection (just flip cover)
Samsung's phone are strong, hoping my future G5 is too :-/

The Note 3 et Note 1 's paint are ok since the first day, no scratches, and the screens are ok too, without protection (just flip cover)
Samsung's phone are strong, hoping my future G5 is too :-/

Samsung were very strong devices. The last two years have been very fragile if dropped. The S7E I have now feels like I need to keep it in a diaper... I could drop my note, note 2 or 4. LG G4 too! But if the G5 begins to chip soon after... For the love of God! Hopefully what people are saying is true: there is a factory that has issues, but it's one of the three that are producing! So that's good...
I'm keeping my fingers crossed [emoji106]
