[Q] tun.ko 2.6.32.9 - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I'm trying to get openvpn working but Iḿ stuck at tun.ko.
I've been trying various modules but all return -1 Unknown symbol in module
uname -r
2.6.32.9
System information: Version.4.2.13.MB860.Retail.en.FR
Android version: 2.2.2
Baseband version:N_01.92.00R
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat May 14 14:00:36:20 CST 2011
Build number: OLYEM_U4.1.3
I just posted as much info as possible, further than the kernel version I don't see why there would be a difference, but apparently there is... although all modules info (modinfo) showed me 2.6.36.9 none worked...
If somebody could direct me to the kernel source, and explain lightly which versions are important I could compile it by myself and I'll post it here.
Or ofcourse better a link to the module is better
Thanks!!

Try one of the custom kernels, they have tun.ko module built in!
Also, I have the same problem when I decompress the module directly in the phone with File Expert, I use Astro to decompress and works!

I'm glad I saw this. I've been holding off on trying some of the custom roms until they get a little more stable. Meanwhile in the back of my mind I was concerned about losing my ipsec capability.

[Q] tun.ko / kernel sources for LG P500

I'm sorry if this is yet another thread for kernel recompilation and tun.ko.
I would like to be able to use openvpn with the P500... but I can't find the source for the kernel used in the LG P500.
Can I use generic sources for 2.6.32.9 or is a lg-patched kernel required?
xdadevc
Did it myself...
Well... I helped out myself
Here's a tun.ko module for the LG P500! Openvpn works now.
Since source is not available from LG (yet) the module is compiled from the original 2.6.32.9 sources used in the P500 and it works in my P500 (tested with tun openvpn).

Hello,
thanks I've searched it for many hours. I must look if it works, but i can load it per insmod that is a right way.
Also now I must configurate my own openVPN network.
Thanks a lot.
Greeting schreibnix
Great news! Thanks =)
Thanks a lot...looking forward to test it
Once kernel source drops if you guys notify me I'll Oc it like I did the optimus S and lg ally.
Yes, OC kernel
We need some power for our OO
Hi i want to test my OpenVPN server but i need tap kernel driver, have you compile it?

AFAIk there is no tap kernel driver for openvpn,
we can only use tun
the tun.ko on cm7's rom is not compatible with the kernel.
so i searched for a compatible tun.ko for the kernel
anyone who have some problems on configuration (config file of openvpn )
you can contact me,
FYI we use openvpn here in our country to have free internet, ( using backdoor connection )breaking onto the network's firewall

You mean the stock **** kernel? No, cannot help. Download the sources and compile it.
Or just flash a saner kernel from Paolo or franco.
tun.ko for LGP 500 with Android 2.3.3
After searching all the forums and all the possible forums , I couldn't find anywhere the Tun.ko module of LGP 500 with Gingerbread.
I decided to re-compile the kernel module to build tun.ko and got it working successfully
I am able to connect to VPN
Attaching if anyone want to use it
Tested on Bell LG E720B optimus Chic

Installed "Scramble" rom and like it but no wifi...

I installed the scramble rom on the x10 dev thread and it really is pretty nice except the wifi fails every time.
There is no "dev tools" to choose "crash system server" and no blade wifi fix in the installed apps....
Other than this..it looks like a great rom....and from what I've read, wifi is supposed to be working...is it?
#restore factory settings
Omega,
I'm very sorry...but what does " #restore factory settings" mean exactly?
ohk basic question
1) are you using stock kernel or modified kernel
coz i am also on scamble but except battery drain no issues at all..
I believe it's a stock kernel...it says:
Kernel version:
2.6.29
[email protected] #1

Ohk then its stock kernel.
in that case wifi should not be a problem.
ohk can you write down all the steps that you did to get your scamble un and running including any update zip you installed over the scamble main zip.

I did only what the directions said in the first post.
But I have to say...since yesterday, I found another rom that's working for me (MIUI from cobrato) so I'm fine for now.

tun.ko for GT-I5500 and GT-S5570

I have looked for a tunnel kernel module for the samsung i5500 with the FROYO version 2.6.32.9-perf
I couldnt find it anywhere, so I have compiled my own. Here it is, sorry if it's been done before..
I have tested this on my european stock 2.2 JP3 kernel updated with kies and on a stock GT-S5570. It may work on other phones with the same kernel version..
as per usual place in /system/lib/modules
then the vpn services should work..
Can you explain what does it?
I don't know what are vpn services...

the tun.ko is necessary for the vpnc application and for the openVPN application.
there are few tutorials out there about openVPN integration with android, the main things that you need are this module, a rooted phone and the android sdk installed so that you can send files with the phone using 'adb'.
If you are not interested in these apps then you dont need the kernel module.
Yeah, i've understand, thanks.

can i use this tun.ko in my galaxy 5 for openvpn ?
Just in case anyone needs to know, my CyanogenMod port's kernel already has TUN built-in, so this module won't work (and isn't needed, either).
Absolutely, this is for the Stock 2.2 froyo ROM.
thanks!!! i just got one question.. i tried to build it with no success at all using android-ndk-r5b and android-sdk-linux_x86 with the right kernel version sources. how did you build it? thanks again, this module worked for me nicely

I would suggest you don't play with your phone if you don't know what you're doing...
When you compile a kernel in linux, you have the option to enable/disable the creation of config.gz inside the kernel or outside it. If that option is disabled, you won't be able to get the .config the kernel was built with.
The option required is IKCONFIG or Kernel .config support
This option enables the complete Linux kernel ".config" file contents to be saved in the kernel. It provides documentation of which kernel options are used in a running kernel or in an on-disk kernel. This information can be extracted from the kernel image file with the script scripts/extract-ikconfig and used as input to rebuild the current kernel or to build another kernel. It can also be extracted from a running kernel by reading /proc/config.gz if enabled (below).

So if you want to have /proc/config.gz support you either need to recompile the kernel with CONFIG_IKCONFIG enabled or find a kernel that has it enabled by default.

does that mean i have to flash my sgs2? bcoz i didnt flash it earlier. just rooted it with doomlord rooting toolkit. so didnt ask me any of these option. if there is any other way like just unrooting it and thn rooting it back with the above mentioned option please tell me how to do that.
sorry if am asking too many or silly questions but apparently there is not too much of support for my android device.
can anyone please suggest a soln fast?
