request: browser.apk from touchwiz roms to install on stock rom - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Themes and Apps

I am not digging touchwiz too much, except for the browser. Samsung finally found a way to stop the keyboard lag that is present in every honeycomb browser and tablet.
I tried copying the browser.apk from the deodexed rom and loading it into the bonsai ROM is root explorer, but it doesn't work. Is it possible to make it work?
Thanks.

im no wiz on honeycomb
in fact i just got here a hew hours back but i know a ton about touchwiz
im guessing that the browser relies a ton on the touch wiz framework just how there music player and many other stuff on the galaxy s series did

Yeah. Considering that Docs browser user sgent sticky fix mods the framework not browser apk, just porting the latter probably won't work.
If you must absolutely avoid TW, then the newest Dolphon browsers solve the input lag too. Opera mobile also.
But imho this tab tw(uekm7) is really much much better than expected and very much worth trying, especially with devs like Doc and Calkulin working up improvements to it too.

Tw browser is integrated with TW framework, so making a standalone TW browser is a monumental task and probably will never happen.

What about comparing the samsung browser to the stock honeycomb browser, and finding out what samsung did to fix the typing lag/blue highlighting?

Just upgraded my xoom to HC 3.2 and the "keyboard lag" is all gone!

The file is called browser.apk not chrome.

new information about this issue, see this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16268936#post16268936

If you actually look through everything on that app it actually is google chrome for mobile
It even has incognito mode just like chrome

Call it whatever you want, but the file in question is called browser.apk, which is what we were discussing.

[Q] AOSP Browser on Sense

I did a search on this forum, and I've seen some posts on other forums about this, but nothing I've tried so far has worked. Is it possible to get the AOSP Browser on a Sense ROM (I'm running BAMF 1.7 right now). The HTC browser is worthless, and I'm not a fan of the various market replacements (I've tried DolphinHD, Firefox, Skyfire, both Opera's, and Miren). In my opinion the AOSP broswer is near perfect. Minimal overhead, does its job and that's all. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

no idea, but you can try to pull the .apk from any AOSP rom or from CM7 and use adb to push the file.
on a side note id love it devs enabled the about:debug option standard on all browser so i have easy access to the UAString

Already tried that. I've pulled the browser from CM7 and from 'de-sensed' builds. I delete the old browser (actually just rename), reboot, push the new browser to /system/app, and install. Install works fine, but the browser just FC's upon load. Anyone got any ideas? I've read its difficult because of all the tweaks made to the HTC browser, but it must be possible since some de-sensed ROMs use it. I just don't know where to make edits to prevent FCs.
I use this Rom manager install from Teslacoil and it works perfect with DB 1.63. Do not try it with GB, it will fail hard!
Thanks, I am going to give it a shot now.
good i like this
Don't forget to repair permissions then reboot. Works for me. Also make sure your using something like root explorer with mount on when your switching apks in the system folder.
My bad that's if you use the apks from an older post on the forum so just ignore if your using the one posted above.

[Q] incredibly minimal ROM?

is there a ROM that is completed gutted of everything except the absolute essentials needed for the phone to work?
im talking like all bloatware, messaging, internet browser, htc apps, sense, live wallpaper, etc.... everything removed

No ROM I know of lacks a browser. CM7 won't have Gtalk, market, any HTC anything... stuff like live wallpapers and the like you can find with root explorer and delete.
Omgb is the leanest ROM.
CM7, stripped everything for me, OMFGB is good too

You cant really strip the browser from the rom. Well, you can remove the apk, but android has a lot of the webkit framework tied into it for other applications, so the browser apk is just a small portion of the entire webkit framework that many things depend on (things such as the xda app, netflix, etc).
Anyways, the default browser on non sense roms is more usable anyways, though it's still my secondary browser most of the time, but it doesnt lag like the sense one does.
I really CAN strip the browser from the rom....Been doing it for months, never broke a thing.
I prefer to use Th3oryRom's base, then go in with titanium and delete system apps (browser, sms, email, live wallpapers, widgets, other stuff). CM7 and OMFGB work well as a clean-ish base too, but I get much better performance out of Th3ory's stuff. clear cache/dalvik, and you're good to go.

never said you couldnt remove the browser apk. I just said you cant remove the webkit libraries, which are technically larger than the apk is.
i guess i should have stated that i prefer to stay away from AOSP ROM's(just personal preference)... i've tried both CM7 & LiquidThunderbread before, but i suppose i'll give OMGB a try.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1201600 is a stripped to hell GB CM7 rom, it's like 81MB. Build to suit. But that's AOSP. Th3ory has a Sense based rom too, but until it gets it's own thread it's buried somewhere in the last few pages of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1186218&page=136

Google Chrome Beta released for ICS!

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.android.chrome
It says it's incompatible with my Touchpad (maybe it's because of the 132dpi) so can anyone extract it upload the .apk? Thanks.
don't worry pal, got u covered ;-)

It is compatible, I am using it now. I will post the apk when I get on my desktop. Works really well after 5 minutes of testing. Clicking on a youtube link closes the browser for me though.
installed it on mine from the market - works nice - just like the desktop version so far

Just an FYI if you want to use 132 dpi you should use this to fix the market, however since alpha 0.6 now officially supports 120 dpi (as an add-on option) you are probably better off just using that.
I am running at 120 now and have no issues with this or any other app in the market.
Pretty damn stupid that its only available in less than a dozen countries. Thanks for the side load link
No problem
Works well, unfortunately no flash support due to the fact that Adobe has pulled support. I've found myself using the default browser, I like all the improvements they have added since gingerbread.
wonder where the option to load "desktop" version is
EDIT: nvm, it doesn't support desktop view nor flash

No flash support, and no user agent choice. Not even a "request desktop site". Kind of embodies the reason I felt CM7 was unusable. Beta? Feels like alpha.
Back to ICS Browser + for me. Uninstalled Chrome already.

Shame about the Flash support, this is HOT.
So I guess in Android 5.0 this will be the stock browser?

Yeah, I'm betting that from Jellybean forward this will be the main browser. I think Flash on mobile is really done whether we, or the rest of the web, likes it or not. Once we upgrade out of ICS I don't think we will have Flash anymore. Adobe very begrudgingly updated it for ICS and I'm pretty sure that's the last time they are going to do that. They certainly don't seem willing to make any exceptions here for Chrome mobile.

your problem is that little green guy in the lower right corner! i havent seen anyone use a task killer since froyo! LOL jp
as far as the browser goes it seems a tad slower than the stock browser. if you dont like mobile view you can usually go to the bottom of most web pages and manually select "classic version" like on yahoo.com. i still use the stock browser but once chrome will support desktop view i will for sure switch makes my TP look like a desktop

I wouldn't be too quick in talking about the death of Flash. There are 10's of millions of sites using flash on the web. It'll take years to change them all. Btw, in all the notices I've read of Flash being developed for ICS, not once did I read a hint of it being grudgingly developed by Adobe. As well, if that was to be the last of Flash development, why are Adobe right as we speak developing Flash Player sandbox for Firefox?
Chrome beta is not running well on this release of buttah. Erratic and some weird stuff. Both are early releases of course.

[Q] Galaxy Tab 10.1 WIFI - Best Root/ROM?

I'm trying to read up and figure out what the best root/rom is for the Galaxy Tab. I'm not new to rooting -- I've got an Evo 4G and a Nook Color both rooted and running custom ROMs.
Really, honestly - I like the Honeycomb in the Tab 10.1, except the Touchwiz launcher. That thing bugs the crap out of me - *it never goes away*. Watch a video in fullscreen? Sure, fullscreen except the launch bar. OH hey, I'll take out the icons, but I'll still be here.
I'm sure I'd probably like ICS at some point, when it's more stable -- but for now, I'd be content with a custom ROM that is honeycomb-like, close to stock - but where I can ditch the touchwiz garbage. Is stable, isn't flaky, or filled with a ****-ton of skulls and retarded sound notifications made by a 13 year old death-head.
So - any suggestions?
edit: as a side note, I want things to work like AllShare, Netflix, Youtube, etc. I've used different DLNA apps in the past, and frankly I think Allshare is the smoothest of the bunch. Sucks that we don't have Hulu+ for the tab, but I can do without that.

Just got it flashed and everything appears to be working just fine aside from the camera (which is mentioned in the post regarding this ROM), but other than that... It's pretty smooth, man. Not gonna lie.

Chrome browser on Nook Tablet

Hi folks,
I love the chrome browser and want to see it run on my Nook Tablet.
Is this possible ? Has anyone thought about it ? I guess there must be some way to hack the apk to install it on older SDK.
Cheers,
DA
You got an 8GB or a 16GB? Cause' you can get Chrome browser on CM9 and if you have a 16GB, use CM10 0.02 to get Chrome.
Thanks. I have a 16GB. So one way is to flash to CM10 0.02 then install Chrome.
However i'm not really into flashing my NT, considering there might be some risk of bricking if I mess up the process.
Is it possible to do the other way around: ie. to hack Chrome apk to make it compatible with rooted 2.3.4 ?
To my understanding, there are several of kernel level standards that need to be met for a ROM to use Google Chrome for Android, and I don't believe it there are very many, if any, stock gingerbread devices that can use Chrome. I will point out, however, that Chrome works on CM9 0.05.1 except for adjusting settings. I've used it for a while now.
If you Google it there is an apk floating around with most restrictions removed. But its meant for 4.0 without market access. Try dolphin browser if you can't get it to work

I looked for the longest time as well and couldn't find any way to do chrome on stock NT16. I finally bit the bullet and am playing around with CM9 and CM10. The mods are very cool and I will keep using them but there are some stability issues. There is some very nice development activity going on still and I am hoping this will smooth out.
However, that being said,I am not as impressed with mobile chrome as I had hoped. If you don't want to flash a non-stock ROM,I would go with dolphin browser as previously suggested.
If you do get chrome on stock please share here.

I know this is an old thread, but I found and loaded Chrome on my 8gb tablet as well as on my mobile phone, neither of which are running ICS.
The Nook is stock ROM rooted.
If interested, I can attach the apk I used.
I'm not particularly impressed with it, but it runs. Of the browsers I have tried, I would rank it a bit faster than stock, but slower than Dolphin and Opera Mini. Firefox is not nice at all.
Opera is still my favorite. The home screen is nicely suited to tablet viewing.
