This one is working for me, but only on 4G. I haven't been able to get it to work with 3G. Barnacle won't work on 3g for me either though, not sure why. Although thats okay, I'd rather it work on 4G than 3G anyways.
You need to go to the settings on this, and check the box that says "Routing Fix". After that, you should be good to go for tethering on 4G only.
If anyone knows how to get it working on 3G, please let me know.

I also tried Barnacle and it works fine. Speeds are kinda slow (prob my signal) otherwise it was painless.

slow 4g tether

so i tried to wireless tether my phone today to see if my new 4g connection was faster than my at home internet. however during a download i was only getting about 108kb/sec which is waaaay slow for 4g. im getting 2-3 mbps on the phone. im using barnacle wifi tether. is it the app? if so what app should i be using? FYI i dont want to use the actual verizon feature because they limit how much you can download per month.
edit: dur, if i read first... 2-3 mbps is still pretty slow for 4g on your phone though. you could try wireless tether: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/

found the problem. says in description that barnacle shares 3g connection. can anyone suggest a good 4g tether or wireless tether app? i tried the one listed here but i couldnt find it on the market only in the link.

Get the one from Google. Verizon had Google take wifi-tether out of the market. Just make sure that you have install from unknown sources checked off.
that one still only says 3g and 2g in the description and it doesnt have a thunderbolt version. can anyone confirm it works with 4g and if so which version should i get?
It's a free app dude. Why not just try it?
because im out of town and dont have 4g and wont until monday.
I know that PDAnet claims to be capable of achieving very fast 4g speeds...I believe the description said 20-30 mbps, and it's a non rooted app. However, it isn't a wireless tethering app, you have to use a USB connection (or bluetooth, which will be slower.) If using a a USB cord is acceptable for you, or you can't find a wireless tethering app that you find to deliver adequite speeds for your needs, give that one a try.
Wifi tether worked for me i la,ok city, tampa, seattle should i continue, it has worked everywhere i have been either 4g or 3g,the phone is faster but it still works.
my screamin' lil' bamfed out tbolt

Does the WiFi tether app work like crap for anyone else?

Yes, I've done the routing fix. WiFi Tether functions, it just doesn't function well. I seem to be topping out at 20KBps with 4G, which is obviously pretty bad. And a bummer, too, since I was so looking forward to ditching EasyTether (crashes all the time, doesn't handle loss of 4G well). Anyone else had some problems here, or better yet, found a solution?
Using viperROM at the moment, for reference.
Yes!
Can't get the stock hotspot app to work either. My laptop connects fine but no data?
SteelROM_v1.01
Don't you have to have something in your plan to use the stock hotspot app? I've never tried.
I can't get Wifi Tether to work at all.
But Sprint Hot Spot works fine. With a Hot Spot Enabled ROM of course.
Yeah, same here. WiFi Tether doesn't work at all, fails on the starting wifi interface.
HotSpot worked fine in an enabled ROM
Branacle works great for me.

What kind of speeds you getting?
And what ROM?
Ugh. Unlocked hotspot app is even less functional. Stupid thing prevents my 4G from connecting, same as USB tether does on Sense. So aggravating. This is the entire reason I rooted to begin with, and there's no workaround

[Q]Why is tethering so slow??

On my phone I get 15-20mbps on speak easy speed test
When I use googles android wifi tether or the verizon app I get 1mbps down
What gives? It seems lie the tether app is using 3g instead of 4g
I have tried wifi tether and the hotspot app and both have the same issue
I also searched and others are having the same problems but no solutions posted.
Anyone get wifi tether to use the 4g instead of the 3g? please post how
Yea same here.I've searched the Net looking for an answer but no luck.I even tried flashing different radios but no luck either...
I did that there's a WiFi tether beta but who knows how long before they get it working with 4g, not to mention make it compatible with every phone and network out there.

heh. i go to the library often and will occasionally want to play Left 4 Dead online. problem is, the library's wifi is super slow and regularly disconnects.... so i will use pdanet to my laptop. theres no 4g in my area but at least the 3g is stable enough to keep me connected and my ping averages 200 - 300. sometimes itll jump as high as 700(which really sucks) but im at least surprised that the 3g can even do that.
So nobody has figured out why tethering only uses 3g instead of 4g????
Just figured I'd let you know that I let a guy tether his iPhone (just to show him LTE) to my Tbolt recently and he got 12dn/3up using the built-in tethering hotspot in CM7 (he ran the Speedtest.net app on his iPhone).

It's not a universal problem. It sounds like a "just you" problem and maybe a few others. LTE works fine for me and I get 1.5-2 Megabytes per second on it with CM7.

Well, it's not "just you". My phone won't USB tether if I have "LTE" radio selected. If I just select EVDO, then it will tether. Running OMGB.

Not everyone is having the problem. Seems to only be a handful of people.
I'd say if you're running cm7 and you messed with the radio settings other than just using the toggle for 3g and lte/3g auto, that is why your tethering is not working. Don't mess with those and dont force it to LTE only.
Anyone ever figure this out?
I'm running stock rooted Galaxy Nexus and I'm having the same problem. No matter what method I use to tether it seems that the tether switches to the 3g radio after a few seconds of turning it on.
I know this is a TB thread, but I have the same problem so it must not be a TB issue...
Everyone posting is running aosp roms, could that be the issue? On shiftsense i get 10-15 down with pings around 100. I also use the wifi tether fix i posted in the general threads. Ive flashed the newest radios, but never change the settings for lte/cdma.

I want to add another data point. I can tether to my android device and get about the same speeds I get on the phone. However, when I tether to a windows machine the speed is extremely slow <1mbps u/d. The only way to get better speeds on the PC is to run filterproxy on the phone. It's still about 35-50% of the bandwidth of the phone but a little better. Could this be related to like a MTU size on the PC or something timing out when being routed from the PC through the phone?

I use Wireless Tether for Root Users on my TB, and I get about 10-15Mbps down, but only around 0.5Mbps upload.

OpenGarden tethering suddenly VERY slow for NO reason?!

I have always used OpenGarden for thethering and it's quite fast. But now all of a sudden with OpenGarden I go from having 15mbps down and 4mbps up to 1 down and 1 up?? Wtf?? I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and no difference??
Try Wireless Tether, I made a switch from Open Garden to Wireless Tether and works great. I don't know why there was that much a difference between the two but it works
Well I ended up trying a different channel on OpenGarden and now its fine again....not even sure what that changes are/what differences are made now...
And btw, Wireless Tether never worked well for me, OpenGarden is the only tethering app I have been able to get LTE speeds on....

WiFi Tether Router

Has anyone tried to get WiFi Tether Router working on the One M9 after root?
It worked fine on the M8, but I am still trying to get it to work on the M9.

Yikes !! That's not good.
I know OMJ said he's confident his ROM will have Native Tether working.
I'm waiting a bit before unlocking/rooting.
You should be ok with unlocking. That is the first thing I did as it wipes the phone.
I have yet to install TWRP and root as I have to digest how it affects the OTA possibilities. Honestly if native tethering is somehow enabled I might stick with stock rom minus some of the bloat. It isn't that bad IMO.

I prefer wait to see if Sunshine S-OFF will even need an unlock. It didn't for M8 which was nice.
Also if things don't change by the time my 14 days are up I might bail on M9.
I'm working with the developer now, but so far it is not working. Any other ideas for a Wi-Fi hotspot once rooted?
As of now, the developer does not know why it is not working on the M9.
Does anyone have any ideas?

As of about a month ago, he still didn't have it working.
I'm using Bad Boys now, which has tethering.

bad boys is what ? rom .//? found it..
Yes.
Native Tethering works great for me on BadBoyz. USB Tether, Bluetooth Tether and WI-FI Hotspot has worked flawless for me since I got the phone.
Just FYI. Wifi Tether Router now works again with root only. No mods required.
See his release notes on google play. I ran RUU and let TWRP do the root. Fired up Wifi Tether Router and it works. Used Method 2.
I'd be curious is it works while roaming (I should say on CDMA). I'm pretty sure Bad Boys ROM with Native Tether does work.
FYI. Just tested. Wifi Tether Router will work on Roaming Networks (i.e. Non Sprint CDMA networks).
Ran RUU (.19) and only installed TWRP and TWRP rooted it. Then installed Wifi Tether Router.
I used this to enable native tethering http://www.cultofandroid.com/61639/enable-free-wi-fi-tethering-htc-one-m8/ and I confirm it works on the m9. And I'm not running a custom ROM. Just stock 5.1 rooted. It works on 3g/LTE

Does it stick after reboot? You on Sprint? I'd be surprised it's that easy given the work that Bad Boys and Wifi Tether Router had to do.
A lot of the comments on the M8 that this was for does not look too positive.

Actually it has stuck since I did it. I use it to tether my tablet while away from WiFi. I was surprised as well. And yes, I'm on Sprint.
From what I've read on this thread, WiFi tethering is available by rooting alone... Can anyone confirm?
Seems like bad boyz rom has WiFi tethering built in and functioning as an alternative option?

Which rom is it?
Has anyone figured out how to get tether working on Marshmallow? I just rooted and installed wifi tether and so far can't seem to get my computers to find the tether network.
I figured it out, I froze tether guard using titanium backup, then installed free tether unlocker from the play store, now Wi-Fi tether router is working, using the settings specified on the website
