We must wait until someone without unlocked bootloaders downloads the softwareñ, backs it up and uploads it here.

Supposedly there is a new update that includes a new launcher (which will function in LandScape properly for the Play), a new video recorder with stereo recording, and an xLoud service which will amp the volume if you are playing something over the built-in speakers. It is rolling out for the Arc and the Play supposedly. http://bit.ly/piNNOr
I certainly don't have it as I'm on Verizon in the US, and we don't get anything till months to years later. (Even then, its crippled and loaded with bloat)

The new one that has xloud (makes the speakers louder). The new xperia launcher that supports themes etc

It would be even better if it was available to generic FW users.

OK, anyone got it yet?

No. I have to wait for someone to get flashable files for me to flash is this update called 2.3.4?. If so will i lose root etc when i do flash it

Could you point to a guide for backing up the firmware and creating an FTF file? That would allow to have more than one version of the new firmware, just in case

Its out in the Arc forum.. perhaps someone could extract the launcher from it for you guys to use

In program files, seus install.folder, then db, blob, fs, look around for.these.folders. Youll.find.three "FILE_XXXXX" files. Copy to desktop. Find decrypt in flashtool and point to folder with files.

Anyone see the update I haven't gotten it yet. I am using UK generic. I want that xLoud feature.

same here mate. been looking for apk's etc but no luck lol

It is will still be 2.3.3 so I assume your play will still be rooted if you ota updated
Sent from my XPlay using XDA App.

Over at Xperiablog.net they are saying that the ftf file is over at XDA. Strange.

im kinda hanging out to test this xloud thing, is their any information about on when sony is expecting to make this available on generic firmware? se facebook etc etc. also has their been any indication from sony if a custom camera app(+720p) recording will actually be released, or are we all just hoping for one?
the current changes sound like a step in the right direction most of these have been small niggles with me at some stage.
one unrelated question, i recently did a ta backup of my phone(r800a with uk generic) and the ta says its an r800i..is this correct? i didnt think the ta would be touched by firmware flash.

TA is modified after flash, it's the way it works. If you flash R800i FW, and UK FW is that, then phone will become R800i, and TA will say the same. But this is based on info in build.prop (in SE terms - phone customization file) which is parsed by CDAInfoAccessor and other apks in /system/app and written to TA, so even if you have R800a baseband, it'll still say R800i and SEUS will update your phone with R800i flash files.

thanks, i thought it could be a combination of the above but the way its worded made me think that at least some portion of the ta may have been flashed as well. Can i just go through my build.prop and change everything back to r800a, ive dabbled in the build prop somewhat on my old phone, if thats all thats required it should be fairly simple. unfortunately i didnt do a ta backup of the telstra stock firmware so im **** out of luck there.

We should get the new update next week!

Working Root on 2.3.3 locked bootloaders! :) (Works on all Xperia Plays except R800X)

Ive seen this on the arc section and it works !
Do not try this if you have an unlocked bootloader or if you dont know what your doing! I'm not resposible if you break or brick your phone!
If you're already on a rooted .184/.181 firmware and OTA update is available for you just update your firmware. If not:
- Backup the apps you need (if you have root)
- flash to .184 UK firmware with the flashtool (Do a clean install or else you will have alot of force closes)
- heres the .184 UK firmware and the flash tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
- Use Gingerbreak http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765 or Superoneclick to root your device
- Update your Play using a OTA(over the air) update(Got to settings->About phone->Software update)
- Restore your apps
- Enjoy your rooted 2.3.3!!!
NOTE !!! : The only thing you should do after you flash and before ota update is to root and nuthin more.
NOTE 2: The Generic UK firmware works worldwide. Doesn't matter what phone you have except for the Verizon model. So if you have an AT&T R800a dev/google conference unit or UK or Rogers or France or any other phone. It will work It will not brick your phone

If you're allready on a rooted .181 and OTA update is available for you just update your firmware. If not:
- flash to a 3.0.A.2.181 firmware with the flashtool
- Use Gingerbreak or Superoneclick to root your device
- Update your Arc/Play using a OTA(over the air) update(Got to settings->About phone->Software update)
- Enjoy your rooted 2.3.3!!!
Note this only works on .181 firmwares

Hi guys,
So far this methode only works with the .181 global generic firmware(1247-1061) on the Arc.
I think if you flash the global generic .181 firmware for the play this methode should also work for you guys.
good luck!

remember there is lots to search thru BEFORE you go and make sensationalist claims like "giving wrong information" out just a thought tuff guy!!
I can confirm that this is not working for me. I've flashed the UK generic 1.84 a while back. I've removed some bloatware after rooting with gingerbreak.
Today I read this thread and gave it a try. It downloads the update and when I click ok it shuts off and does it's thing with the four dots. When it reboots it goes through the Sony txt and bootup anim and then the lock screen and says it's unable to update?
I've tried it twice. My phone is sim unlocked from purchase. Could it be the removed bloatware or a modified framework that causes it?
Regards Dousan...
e: I did it OTA.
help......
i have a strange problem i was on 2.3.3 unrooted
i tried to downgrade to the uk generic firmware in this post with
flashtool, it flashed ok i restarted phone but
when phone goes to desktop its blank just the darkblue wallpaper with nothing on it
kust the time in the top right taskbar and the signal strenth and the simcard symbol with a red x on it and the battery status bar
and that it.
it wont scroll left/right for more home screens, none of the buttons do anything
apart from power button and volume up/down
when i scroll the notification bar down it just says emergency calls only
and then in the top left its got the numbers 1980 3 8
what the hell is goin on
my fone boots up but i cant use it in any way
Is the OTA update available everywhere? Mines on 2.3.2 but if i try to OTA it says im already on the latest firmware.

[Q] Will I get the 2.3 update?

I have an xperia x10a bought from bestbuy (att) and i have succesfully updated my phone to the Generic 2.1.1 on baseband 2.1.54 with build number 2.1.A.0.435. I am also rooted. My question is will i get the 2.3 update right away, because I am on a Generic firmware, or will i have to wait for some kind of an ftf or something?
I read around here that rooted phones are a no go, so you may want to unroot just to be safe
Yeah just in case something happens, unroot your phone. Apparently SEUS nor PC Companion will update your phone unless it's unrooted.
ok i unrooted my phone but the question was more about whether i will get the 2.3 update at the same time as everyone else because i have an att phone with generic firmware

You will get the update. At the same time as everyone else...probably not. However the good news is is once it is officially released someone here will get it and the devs will be able to create a .ftf file for everyone to have it using flashtool. So once it is officially released the devs will have it ready for us in no time...you wont have to wait for SE anymore.

Maybe pre-rooted as well?
Because I remembered when 1 of the 2.1.1 updates came and we can't root it when it rolled out, so devs made a pre-rooted ftf file.

The baseband is still 72 ?
just a curious question, does the home launcher in 4.1.B.0.587 is smoother now like in GB? the only reason i had moved to my own ported miui because of it's too lag in 4.0.4
Out of curiosity which country is this update for?, I'm still waiting for the original ICS update in UK, and my phone is sim free, and they haven't updated the SI Numbers for a month.

Wonder what the deal will be with rooting this one? Hopefully it won't be like ICS 4.0.4. - i.e. using Flashtool to flash 4.0.3 kernel (then root & CWM) and then flashing back to 4.0.4 again. Then again, if someone posts up an .ftf for .587 it should be straightforward enough. Hopefully anyway!:fingers-crossed:!

Yes, this for international version, I'm uploading the american version too.
And I confirm that can root and install clockwork mod such in 431 firmware.
Just flashed to 4.1.B.0.587. The UI is definitely smoother, and the camera lag seems to be gone as someone else has pointed out. Also the phone in general seems to be faster. I can also confirm like the others that the rooting trick for 4.1.B.0.431 works on this new firmware.
Could you guys please post some link with rooting instructions and necessary files to achieve it? Thanks a lot.
guys what about led notification? sms, missed call? working or not?

[Q] 4.0.2.A.0.42_CN not letting me install my apps

Hi there.
I believe this is my first post, however I have been reading the xda forums for over a year.
I'm after some advice regarding my device Xperia Neo MT15i. I upgraded to ICS but it doesn't seem to work very well on my phone, ever since then I have been trying to find working ftf files of gingerbread so i can downgrade. I have downloaded a few global versions through these forums but none seem to work in flashtool 0.9.10.1 , where the list of files should be it's just blank. With the file list being blank, is that a flashtool problem, or just broken files?
Last night I found a newly updated thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1952333 with a version .42 file that actually works in flashtool, however it's a chinese version and a separate global kernel. The problem I now have is that google app store doesn't recognise my phone , or isn't communicating so I can't get any apps. There's no google store app, or google mail or anything in this version. The only way I can get to the app store is via phone or pc browser but trying to install apps does nothing, the apps I want say they are already installed or greyed out.
Basically the chinese gingerbread ftf renders my phone pretty much useless, so is there a working global ftf version of gingerbread still in existence?

Hi bz786,
I was in a similar situation like you. had a Xperia U and SIM locked to a company. Instead of endless waiting for the company to release the ICS, I just did flash by myself.
Well... there would be no fancy stuff anyway.. unless you root it and install a custom ROM cuz the stock ROM or company ROM always uses up most of the tight 512M ram cap...

Thanks guys! I went ahead and used flashtool but... now I have a problem
So once ICS was installed I was ecstatic however my 3G was not working. So what I did was go to the phone settings and download the internet settings again but now the 3G is much slower than previously on Gingerbread. I think I messed something up with the baseband or installed a firmware which has the incorrect firmware settings (for me).
Does anyone know where I can download (UK, UNITED KINGDOM - This is a must I think for the 3G) Sony Xperia U ST25i T-Mobile ICS stock ROM? (Wow that's a mouthful LOL)
Thanks guys!
