[Q] noob question (I Know lol) - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

just got my gtab today, installed clockwork mod and did a backup. Where is the backup stored by default ? i had a 16gb micro sd card in the slot during the backup btw. I just dont wanna overwrite it on accident.
Second question after finishing the clockworkmod install and backup i proceeded to transfer brilliant corners rom 1.2 over to the internal memory and the clockworkmod update.zip and recovery folders are still there is it ok to delete them. Thanks and sorry for the stupid questions !!

alright ignore the first question that was stupid, the backup is stored in the clockworkmod folder on the internal memory. I still wouldnt mind some help on the second question.

Sounds like your doing fine so far. The best place for start as a noob is here http://viewsonic-gtablet-for-dummies.webs.com/. When you go there you are essentially at Code Green, step 5 (repartition). Reparitioning/fix permissions is recommended due to an incompatibility. The repartitioning it does is to the /data partition which contains your clockworkmod folder/backup, update.zip & reocvery folder. So, if you want to save clockworkmod backup, then before you partition would be a good time to transfer it to either your PC or external SD.

thanks, i got past that ok but have run into a issue. I installed robeets brilliant corners 1.20 and it went fine although i need to load the supplement 1.21 over the top (which i assume is done in the same manor as any rom) BUT my pc will no longer recognize the gtab via usb ?? dont know whats going on here, ive tried restarting both devices. When the gtab is connected to usb it says usb connected usb debugging started ??

ignore that too, its just setup a lot different, you have to manually enable the connection via the usb icon on notification bar. My bad, thanks

[Q] Question about Clockworkmod Recovery

So I had a restore point on my TMo Stock rom created using the Clockworkmod recovery. I tried to update to Axura 2.1 from 2.0.5 today and the update messed up halfway. I'm going to take a wild guess it's my horrible mac book pro's wrong doing, faulty download (I'm a mac hater, it's a company issue device). Anyway, my phone is basically stuck at recovery and I have to wait till I head home to use the USB Cable and redownload the rom.
So my questions:
1. Is there no way to access the external SD Card? So I thought of copying a new download of the rom to the external SD, but all I can access is the internal SD card contents when installing zip from sd card. I tried to mount ext-sd (or sd-ext?) and it fails.
2. I tried restoring to the restore I created when I had my stock rom. It seems to go through it but then it just goes back to the recovery after reboot?
3. When I go home, how do I copy the files to the internal SD Card? For some reason, I don't think it's as easy as pluggin the usb cable to the phone while in Recovery mode?
Help would be appreciated.

[Q] Restore CWM Backup from external SD Card

Hi Folks,
I've a problem and I hope some of you guys can help me. I tried to install the latest nightly build of CyanogenMod on my SGS2 and unfortunally, my phone won't boot anymore.
I've got several backups from my phone I made using CWM Backup on my Harddrive but I am just able to copy them to my external SD card. However, CWM only finds backups on the internal SD card.
My question now is: How can I make CWM to look for backups on the external card or else: Is it possible to move to backups to the internal card (Keep in mind: I'm unable to boot).
I didn't find related issues on the board, so any help is appreciated!
Regards,
Manuel
i dont have the answer to your question but i'll share my similar experience of trying to flash cm rom. After unsuccesfully flashing cm rom (device wont boot anymore) i've downloaded a stock rom on my pc and flash it thru odin (entering downloading mode HOME + VOL- + POWER ).Once the device came back to life i just go on and continued experiencing
Hi Guys,
I'm sorry, I really did not want to bother you. However, I solved the problem by myself. The hint that helped me out can be found on androidforums.com.
I did not know that you are able to connect your pc to your phone (as a mass storage device) from CWM Recovery itself (see linked post). After copying the backup to my internal storage via USB, I was able to restore it using CWM Recovery.
Nevertheless, thanks for all the other useful tipps on this forum, I'm so glad to have my phone back! Amazing...
Greets,
Manuel
PS: I'm not yet allowed to post links here, but the post mentioned can be found on androidforums.com under "> Android Phones > Samsung Galaxy S2 > Galaxy S2 - All Things Root > Semi Bricked Help!" Post #9: "Boot into recovery, connect to the PC via USB, go to "mounts and storage" and select "mount USB storage"." After that your device is recognized by your os as a mass storage device.
Boot into CWM, Mount & Storage, Mount USBStorage, plug phone into PC, copy files to internal SD, unplug, flash, voila.
edit: seems im too late x)
Late or not, thanks a lot, mate! ;-)
You see, I'm happy...
BTW: Can I edit the title to prepend a [SOLVEDĀ“]?
now that you are back on the road i can reccomand you a CyMode rom tested by me and is the fastest and simplest rom ,worth trying without warrying :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1170249 . good luck
i think there is not possible

what do you mean ?
Hi,
I have a similar problem but mine isn't solved - not realising the SGS2 has internal SD storage I've stupidly managed to do a nandroid backup and then format the internal SD. Have tried to mount the storage as mentioned above but the PC doesn't see the internal SD.
Help!!

[Q] ClockworkMod v5 Can't mount /sdcard

I have CWM v5 newly installed. I immediately ran a backup with it and all went well. Now, a little later, I've been looking into CyanogenMod and wanted to tiny baby steps so I was nice and confident with things.
I tried to do another backup from CWM and it said it couldn't mount /sdcard. I tried to restore and the same error. Rebooted a few times and it's the same still.
I booted normally and checked with a standard file manager and /sdcard was fine. I haven't changed anything since the time it was working but I still seem to have broken things
What can I do?
EDIT: Actually, since getting CWM on the device, I have played a little with ADB commands and replaced the bootanimation.zip. Everything works when the phone is booted normally so that can't have caused it. Can it?
You really like new threads eh?
I presume you don't have a physical micro SD card, and you've changed kernels again at some point. Now the sdcard mentioned in newer CWM recovery is the external_sd, which you don't have. Use the internal SD card option.

I love them I do search before hand to see if there are similar threads relating to my device but because there aren't, I thought making a new thread per issue would be helpful. I can keep it all in this thread though if that's the etiquette around here though.
I used kTool to flash the zImage from the link you pointed out in my last thread, that gave me CF-Root v5 and CWM. I haven't changed anything since that point so if it worked once, I don't understand why it won't work again. You have confused me about the sdcard/external_sd. I have a card in the device, and everything normally saves to /sdcard but there's also /sdcard/external_sd which is always empty. I also see /sdcard/usbStorage where I have put some files too, but I don't really understand the naming conventions.
As I said, look for the "internal sd card" option in CWM recovery.
I'll add a bit more in the hope you don't need to keep posting.
If you don't have a physical micro SD card in your phone and you try to use any of the "install/backup/restore to/from sdcard" in newer versions of CWM recovery, it will give an error about being unable to mount /sdcard. Also, as far as I know, /sdcard/usbStorage refers to USB OTG, so unless you've got a USB OTG cable and a memory card/HDD plugged in, you shouldn't be writing files to that location.
Backed up successfully to internal sdcard, although I wasn't able to restore from it first which I don't understand because there should be the original one from earlier somewhere.
Turns out I was wrong, I don't appear to have a card in that SD slot even though I could swear there was one. And I can create files/folders in /sdcard/external_sd/ so I give up, lol.
EDIT: Nope, just the normal USB that came with the phone. I created the files/folders directly in the phone when I tested it.

[Q] Unknown problem! Someone help me!! O.o

Hi everyone!
I have (what I think is) a huge problem on my phone and after looking in tons of forums for solutions I found that the people here seem to really be able to help me.
I'm new to android phones... So please bare with me...
So I bought this phone in second hand from a friend who was in need of some cash for college (I don't really like to buy used stuff but...), and it came rooted with cyanogenMod7 but I was having trouble cause the phone wouldn't recognize my sd card and I couldn't connect it to my pc so I tryed to change it back to its original settings...
Its a vodafone 845 (huawei U8120)..
A friend of mine tried to help and we found this recovery menu (Clockwork recovery v3) and he chose some format options (format boot, system and data) and now the phone is useless! It still doesn't recognize my SD card or my pc, I can get into this recovery menu again but cant seem to fix the problem!
Other than that all the phone does is show the initial hourglass forever...
I would be so gratefull if someone could help! Thank you in advance!

Well you wiped the phone, so there's nothing to boot into.
You need to put a rom on the root of the SD card (not in any folders). Make sure the rom is made for your device. Boot into recovery and flash the rom, you should have a working phone after that.
Thank you for you help!
Now the only problem that stands is that the phone doesn't mount my sd card... Its an 8gb kingston, maybe I should get one with less capacity? The previous owner used a 4gb card and she said she never had any trouble regarding that...
Although the phone specifications on the net say it can handle cards up to 16gb :S
Have you tried mounting the SD card in clockwork mod as the usb disk drive?
Its found under mounts/storage.
sent from my legend, currently using extream legend fuseā„¢
Ok guys, I've gotten as far as flashing the rom!!
Made huge progress in exchange for several hours of sleep xD
Now the only problem that stands is that when I choose the option "flash zip from sd card" I get this:
"E: No signature (242 files)
E: verification failed
Installation aborted"
And I'm lost again, yet soooo close to fixing my phone! :/

There should be an option somewhere to turn off signature verification. If you can find that option, toggle it off and try again.
You should try installing the original Firmware.Or Reinstall CM7
I got very similar problem. Have u tried to install different sd card. Maybe current one is broken like in my case?
Note: I do not have this device
See [GUIDE]All Huawei new&old phones-Install Stock Rom-Full Reset
Procedure:
1) Download stock ROM from HERE (im guessing you want Vodaphone UK)
2) Format your SD card to FAT32 (plug it into computer, right click on device, format, follow instructions)
3) Create the folder "dload" (without the quotes of course) on to the root (top level) of your SD card.
3) Extract the UPDATE.APP from the stock ROM and place it in "dload"
4) Power off your phone and put sd card in.
5) Power on by pressing POWER+RED_BUTTON+VOLUME_UP
If done correctly you will see a progress bar saying "UPDATING!"
Edit: this will reset the device to normal, however it will of course require a working SD Card. Try using a friends, try using your card in other devices (other phones, computers, etc).
To test SD Cards in your phone:
1) Insert Card
2) Boot into recovery
3) Go to Mounts & Storage menu
4) Plug device into computer
5) Choose "Mount sdcard over USB" (or similar)
6) If it shows up on the computer it is working, and you may as well use it to carry out the steps above
Note, if you are still checking for sdcard after resetting the phone, you will need to devise another method as the recovery will be replaced. For example use the storage menu in system settings, as this will show stats on the sdcard if it is readable.
My phone is working!
The problem with the SD card was that it was password protected, so I used another phone to disable the password, about the ROM, i just picked another one, I actually found it here on XDA! The celestial teapot, I really like it
Now all I want to know is if its possible to have multitouch on my phone?
And by the way, THANK YOU ALL for your help guys! You're awsome!

No problem, glad to help. Glad you got everything up and running too Multitouch is included in the kernel (at least on my device). If you can find a custom kernel for your phone, make sure it's compatible with your rom. I'm not familiar with your phone, so you'll need to do some checking on kernels. I'm not sure if multitouch is also a hardware limitation or not, so if you don't have multitouch at all it may not be possible. Kernels determine the number of touch points on my phone, if you don't have it at all then it may not be possible or there may be another mod for it.
If you can flash a custom kernel to achieve this, remember to do a nandroid backup first. Always do a backup when flashing anything. If they start to take up too much space, delete the old ones and just keep the most recent. Also remember to only wipe dalvik and cache when flashing a kernel.
Again, since I'm not familiar with your phone you'll need to do some research on these things first. The best thing you can do is read, read, and read some more. If you get stuck again, the good people here will always be able to help you out.

Need help recovering photos from bad vibrant

I'm trying to get files (my photos mostly) off the internal storage of my Vibrant. I don't care about getting the Vibrant working again, just getting my files off it. I can get into recovery mode, but mounting usb storage *does not work*, even tried unplugging and replugging the phone but no dice. I can install zips from the sd card (though it takes 5x longer than normal) but any ROM I install, stock, cyanogen, slim, etc. won't actually finish booting.
Because USB mounting doesn't work, I'd like to use CWM to copy all the files on the internal storage to the sd card. Then I can put the sd in another computer and get the files off. In CWM I can do a backup to sd, but that doesn't backup photos, just the rom. Is there a way to generally copy files from internal to the sd using CWM?
Also, the entire time I'm in recovery mode my PC makes the sound for a usb device being connected and then disconnected, assume that has something to do with the Vibrant being generally busted.
In summary:
Trying to recover files from vibrant phone storage
Can't boot any regular ROM
Can get into CWM recovery
USB mount in CWM recovery *does not work*
Can install zip from sd card
Can backup to sd card
Have a spare working vibrant for charging battery
Any ideas?
Okay I'll see if I can help any. First of all, can you successfully use Odin to return to stock firmware? Have you even attempted using Odin?
Can try using recuva or there is another one too but the XDA search is missing right now. Moped_Ryder usually recommends that one that I can't remember right now, but once the search button is back, I'll let you know what it is. Works like a charm. Droid recover or Droid Files, ahh I can't think of it but there is a solution on here somewhere.
Try a program called Android Commander.
Ive transferred files in CWM with it all the time.
Agreed with android commander. It has always worked for me. There are other solutions too with these new kernels these days. You can download Devil kernel or subzero via PC(They both include new file manager in recovery).Put it on your external card, flash, reboot back into recovery. Mount your internal and external cards from mounts and storage menu. Go to file manager and copy/paste away.
