[Q] Is anyone working on Root, Recovery and Developement for the VZW LTE Tab 10.1? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got mine today and I'm willing to be a test subject, later tonight I planned on trying the retail locked bootloader method to root it but I wasnt sure how recovery would work in that situation and I know the current kernels and roms wont work because of the LTE radio, PS I have a wifi10.1 with a locked bootloader I have already rooted and installed recovery on.

Edit: ok I found Root and recovery which should be added to the FAQ?
Anyone working on Kernel or Rom Development?

Hey nagmier I haven't seen anyone deving for the 4G LTE Tab yet. Most likely is the reason of it having a monthly contract tagged along with it. Just a guess. But don't worry someone will come along. Jump on in the chat on fossnet the channel #gtab. People pop in there all the time . You ever took a stab at it yourself? It's very easy to learn. Just gotta have the dedication and time. Hope to see you in the chat.

I've considered doing dev work I could probably put in the time at this point its a matter of getting my pc working again (sucks using your wifes pc while waiting to replace a motherboard ) once I get my pc up and running again I'll see about setting up the proper development environment.

Ok I popped into fossnet irc a couple of times and everyone was idling it looked like, I have an Ubuntu 10.10 box setup and I'm going through everything in this forum post about setting up to compile Gingerbread AOSP but I need help getting setup to compile a ROM/Kernel for the LTE Gtab can someone give me a hand? I thought about posting in the Dev section the 10.1 area but I wasn't sure... if this post doesn't get any attention I may have to post there.
here is the thread I referenced above: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183832

[Q] Root New Bell (Canada) Samsung Galaxy S II HD LTE (SGH-I757M)

Hello,
I'm trying to find if there is as of yet any way to root this device. I did find one thread but involved flashing a Russian (I think) rom. Before I had the HTC Legend, so I'm not used to Samsung phones. I've been searching since I got it yesterday. I'm wondering if anyone found a safe / confirmed way to do this yet. If I need to wait, I need to wait. I just wanted to pose the questions. I did fine a few roms and info on the Korean version of the phone, but was also unsure if it was safe to flash on this device.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this.
Ryan
In the same boat as you!! I don't want to flash any other roms as it can lead to other issues. As of now I hate not having root, but if it means I have to wait for a flashable. Zip, or a super one click. I can wait

I have just rooted my device using the Russian rom, it went smoothly and I'm now rooted, If you go ahead with it its very simple, took about 5 mins

Russia root works
I used the same rooted and it worked smoothly for me i would recommend that you use it
I'm so willing to bet that there is one of the already exisiting Samsung phones that has the exact same physical characteristics and all the ROMs are compatible. I'm so sure. I'm hoping. I'm praying. You know, CM9 and all that. =(

once rooted. anybody tried putting cyanogenmod for Galaxy S II on the I757M?
Do want ICS!!
No offense for anyone but these generic ROMs tend to run with the least amount of efficiency with Bell's Radio and Kernel. I tried at least 10 of the CM9's out there. The battery life was useless. It was more of a gimmick than anything else.
Which section of the forum is being used for this phone?
Where is this Russian Rom that everyone is talking about? Please provide links to location on the forum!
I am currently loathing Gingerbread but honestly. I will wait for the official Ice Cream Sandwich roll out.
It's being covered:

What were the different results of CM9? Were you building from source, or did you just download a random one and flash them in? I'm trying to port Stock ICS, and going for a much needed beer after I type this just to come sit back down and keep trying - I'm determined to have an alpha up in the next 24 hours of a CWM-flashable ICS.
I'm tearing apart every kernel I can find to make this *@#[email protected](ing phone boot from ICS.

looking to help a friend root her evo

Just a quick question why are there two dev sections for this device? what is the difference? is one for the older gb and froyo roms and the new for ICS and soon to be jellybean? I am looking into how to root this for a friend. I have a samsung gs2 with an unlocked bootloader I have never rooted a phone with a locked bootloader. So how do you guys go about this? For my phone I have a pc program called odin that does low level flashing so all I do is use it to install cloclworkmod or twrp and then flash su and install the.apk and busybox. Is there sometihng similar for this phone or does everything have to be done by ADB? If someone explains which dev section I should go to I will figure it out myself but the more info yoy guys can give me the better. I do still have to find out what software my friend has. I also want her to do this by herself so I want to be able to explain it to her. Thanks in advance.
Use this. It's doesn't it all for you.

The Android Development and Original Android Development forums are organized pretty much as they sound: Original Development will have threads for programs, mods, roms, kernels, etc. that are the original work of the developer. Android Development has threads for those that are built off of someone else's existing work (e.g. A rom that is a collection of tweaks pulled from other roms). I agree with the previous poster on using regawMOD, it is the simplest way to unlock the bootloader, flash a recovery and gain root access all at once. That being said, if your friend is on 1.22.651.3, there is an additional step to manually move the root package to the sd card. Read page 80-84 on the dev's thread for more info.

Thank you to everyone that answered I looked around after I posted and saw that all in one app to do the whole process that is cool I figured that would be the way to go. I will Be a let to root this phone with no problem. I gotta say we have come a long way from entering adb commands to push things to a phone to just a click and boom everything is done the beauty of xda.

Just use the evo lte toolbox and do htcdev unlock. It's a little more complicating then odin l,Odin is more like using an RUU and turning it into a kitchen to flash modified roms

Thanks a lot for your initiative.
Feel great to see new developer for L9. Hoping for the best. Best of Luck.:good:
You could hook up with these guys who are planning a rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136391
Also in the "Original Android Development" sub-forum there are some roms being started.
It may be better if Devs team together and pool resourses.

L9 is at the stage where Group effort is very important. The idea which one can conceive is not necessary other would conceive too. Different persons can solve problems like this (not all) faster than a single person, by sharing ideas and suggesting changes and helping each others in changes and experiments. Goodluck to all.

A few questions before I root

Hello again all, I just have a few questions about rooting my sprint gn2 before i get started. I have found several instructional guides through xda (thanks to all that post them would be lost without ya!) however i am concerned because i am running the new updated version that some of these methods may cause me some issues. I suppose my question is most of these guides were made quite some time ago, and this update has only been around a few months now, is it safe to follow for example this guide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9zF6x1MURM&hd=1&list=SPwCVKEYxr_z7FBQYT32dbYw_kdSJmSDH2Do I need to revert back to a prior update somehow? I have searched for a few hours now and there does not seem to be much information on rooting the device after the latest update. Looking forward to running custom roms thanks for the help.
PS if there is anything you think i should know before starting feel free to chime in i will definitely send a thanks your way!
PSS I see that 4.3 locks down the bootloader completely.... this is bull****...... Anyone know whether the phone i get through insurance when i "break" my phone would come loaded with 4.3 as well?

Edit: I'm not sure all about kingo so I can't give any suggestions.
Thank you, I had read about kingoroot and am sure that is the route i will be taking (as it is my only choice) however would i still be able to backup using twrp? will i still be able to flash custom roms? these are really the only two things i care for doing.. and running root only apps like titanium backup but that is a given. Thanked for your help btw.

That I'm not sure. You would no longer have unlocked bootloader and I always thought the two ways to have custom recovery were if bootloader was unlocked or via a safestrap method. You would have root so I'd check and see if recoveries exist for sprint note ii after this root method of 4.3
I believe you would be unable to flash a new rom/kernel as they require a custom recovery to do so, and with out a unlocked boot loader you wouldn't be able to get a custom recovery.

Testers needed

i could use 3 testers to try the root method created on the t-mo note 7. just adjusted for at&t - as i don't have at&t i can't test it so i need some help from you guys.
i am currently uploading the files but first 3 to pm me i will send links and full guide to so you can test it as soon as the uploads are done. if it works. i'll post guide for you guys to enjoy.
OvrDrive glad you are helping out. I still have my tmobile note 4 cause I returned my att note 7. Due to the recall. Once I get my replacement I will try the root method. Thank you.
np bud. nice to see you over here. to bad your not on t-mo though.
anyway i have the testers i need and they are currently doing what testers do
as soon as i have been informed as to this working as intended i will post it.

when i manage to get this working for you guys. you will be running full stock AT&T firmware with root, instead of AT&T modem and so on with sprint system partition(sprint apks) and the sprint database.. basically you will be on complete at&t instead of a frankenstien mix firmware

I still have mine but not that to familiar with rooting since my last device was the att htc onex and that was with one click root.

I have been spoiled with the nexus root toolkit, but if the instructions are clear, I can test tomorrow night. I'll have my daughter until then.
If you need a tester, I could test as I still have my Att note 7 yet. I'm glad your trying to get a att stock rom root method as that I can't get my gear s or gear s 2 to work with the sprint plus att mixed together method. If you want to shoot me a pm with directions and files, I can try whatever you got cookin(lol). I'll be home from Vacation from Wildwood Thursday morning. I didn't bring my laptop with.
If we get root, we all need to donate for the awesome hard work. I'll be first in line!
ok all. i need a tester who is available to test this right now. and has telegram so i don't have to pm constantly and wait on an answer.
ok. apparently no one wants this or cares. np doesn't matter to me either way. have fun guys
