[Q] sd card files to keep? - HTC EVO 3D

I have a 32gb sd card and I only have 19 gigs of music on it but it says I have 4gb left. I rooted my phone and installed viper ROM also I have the clockwork recovery flashed. I want to format my memory card and put the music back on. Do I have to keep anything else to put back on to it?

Thats more or less up to you. I'd say keep your most recent nandroid. If have games and you had to download the SD files, keep those so you don't have to download them again. Maybe keep the htcwatch portion of the .data folder if you want to keep the Green Hornet movie on your SD. Everything else is usually written to the SD as needed.

Thank you. Okay so I'm probably going to sound stupid here but will it screw up the root?

Installing large files

I hv a 64 gb class 6 sd card which has been working fine. However sometimes when I try to install a large file, it won't install it right away. It takes several attempts to get it to install. Why is this happening? I seem to remember someone saying before that titanium back up may be causing it. Can someone please elaborate or could someone please put me on the right path. Thanks

How big of a file are we talking? Most apps are kept below 100mb anyway.

Did you format your sd card as fast 32?
I got it to recognize now, but it the Play Music app doesnt see the music. I set it to On Device Only.
Halp?

Mine came preset as exfat, I left it that way and it works fine.
Why is everyone suggesting fat32?
Mine is exfat and its fine. I figured it all I out. The problem was with Play music. I cleared data and it picked it up great.
Now how can I set everything to download to a specific folder on the sd?

From what I've read (I could be off-base), exfat is fine for TouchWiz but CM and possibly other AOSP roms will only recognize fat32 (or at least will recognize fat32 but not exfat).
When I tried flashing CM on this phone to test it out, it could not recognize my sdcard which is formatted as exfat but Beans (which is TouchWiz based) reconizes it fine. This would appear to support what I have read but your milage may vary.

just wanted to clear up a couple things...if you flash cwm recovery or a aosp rom then you will need to format the card to fat32...exfat is fine on stock. I was assuming the op was using a custom recovery, my mistake.
Cwm and aosp should get with the program and support exfat. Fat32 has a file size limit of 4gb and exfat does not.

Apps to sd with Titanium

Hello, apps to sd would be an option for people who don't want to do an sd swap but still want to save space on their internal memory. My question is, has anyone used Titanium Backup to put all their huge apps onto their external sd card? If so, how's it going, is it working ok?

Doesn't work even though it says it works.
Only option would be to backup to SD, delete app, and restore when needed.

Hah. I've been wrestling with this for the last hour. Glad to see that I'm not crazy.

The point of an SD card ?

I bought an SD card a couple weeks ago and its pretty much useless since everything I download always goes into my internal storage. Maybe I am doing something wrong here? So what's the point of having one

Yet none of those things actually download to my SD card. My SD card has like 9 gigs free space and internal only has 500mb left .

Go into your camera settings and tell it to save to SD card and free up some of your phones space

Or use something like ES File Explorer File Manager from the Play Store or am alternative browser like Dolphin. ES has a downloader that is one of the choices when downloading a file from the web. In the ES settings you can set its default download location to the external card. Dolphin lets you pick the download location at each download. The TouchWiz camera and some others let you specify where to store photos.
Also, Titanium backup and other backup apps let you back up to the external card.
And most important of all, especially if you are crack flashing TouchWiz ROMs, keep your TWRP or CWM backups on the external card. They can be 2 GB+ each if you don't use compression, and not much better if you do. I have a 16 GB Nexus 7 and its a constant battle with backup space. I usually keep one solid reference backup and my latest only. I would love to be able to throw a 64GB card in it.

Best thing for you to do is educate yourself. ...As the extsd card is invaluable and something many other phone manufacturers don't even offer any more..

My pictures keep erasing overnight.

Recently i installed Alliance b24 with a 64gig external was working great till I noticed pictures and videos were erasing overnight. I take pictures and videos straight to external. Also transfered all my music there but only half the songs are recognizable even though file explorer shows the file still there. If you know of a fix please help.

Simplest fix, and this is going to be an extreme pain, move all your files on your SD card to your computer, format the card within the rom and move everything back. That usually fixes any SD card issues I have ever had with a tw based rom.

I've had to replace 3 64gig cards messing with roms and TWRP recovery unfortunately.
Issues your having sounds very similar to weird problems I've encountered. But night time wasnt the problem lol
Try deleting a file and reboot is the file still there?
Try creating a file and reboot is the file there?
Do it from a PC using cable?
Do it from microsd adapter?
I've even reformatted using PC and phone to find all my files still there and untouched..
Nothing will fix it.. My only solution was copy data and replace on a new card and snap the old card in half for security reasons.
This was after using TWRP and Alliance/Beans roms I've had these issues with a 64gig sdcard. I'd blame it on TWRP somehow.
Sorry it's not a fix.
I did have twrp. But after ur coment switched to philz. Will try both fixes a nd report back. thanks for your input.
