Anyone have a solutions???

When you have the phone plugged in open device manager and see if there is any unknown devices. Click that device and select update/install drivers then select the folder in which you downloaded the drivers.

USB Device not recognized / Unknown Device

I'm having an issue where my thunderbolt does not recognize my device any longer. I used to have it set up with pdanet and everything worked well for about a week. All of a sudden, any computer i tried to plug the device into, wouldn't detect the phone. A friend of mine has tried his thunderbolt on my computer and it detects it.
When plugging my phone in, it pops up an error message with "USB Device not Recognized." In the device manager, the phone shows up as Unknown Device. I have tried this on 3 different pc's, using 3 different data cables. No USB symbol displays on the taskbar of the phone when I plug it in, however, it does charge.
What I have tried:
Changing data cables.
Using another PC.
Uninstalling device drivers and letting windows re-detect and install.
Downloaded HTC Sync and ran it after uninstalling drivers again and re-plugging the phone.
Changed different Connection settings on the phone, such as USB Debuggin on/off, and changing it to HTC Sync Mode, Charge Only, Disk Drive, etc
Mounted and unmounted SD Card in the phone settings.
OS: Windows 7 x64
Thank you for any help you may provide.
same problem
I have the same problem with HTC mytouch 3g 32B Android 2.2.1 when I plug it through usb under Vista.
Any suggestions?
Try installing the usb drivers from htc if you haven't.

I have download the HTC usb drivers but when i go to control panel and uninstall the unknown device it just reinstalls it. when i try to update drivers using the location
ie C:\Users\sxristi\Downloads\android-usb-driver\Android USB Driver\i386
i get a reply
The best software for you device is already installed. Windows has determined that the driver software for your device is up to date.
and it continues to point to
unknown device
Oh one more things i got the usb drivers from Android SDK Manager the google usb drivers revision 4 and the weird thing is that i do not get the trident usb nor the debug icon on my HTC when i plug it in to my vista. I did get it once or twice before but not in general since the usb devices are not recognized. However when i boot on my Ubuntu os then i do get them recognized. so i guess the problem is with windows drivers somehow...
Thanks for the replies.
I've tried to install the drivers from HTC but Windows says that the driver is not compatible with my the device.
Also, I tried on a system with Windows XP and everything worked as intended, but I cannot get it to work properly in Win 7 x64 anymore.
When my win7 comp no longer sees my Tbolt I have to toggle the USB Debugging off then back on. Usually within a few seconds it reads it again. If that does not work I have also used the option to turn on internet pass through then change it back to hard drive mode. Either of those usually work for me. My drivers I used were from android sdk if that makes any difference. Hope this helps.

These didn't work, but thanks for the input
HTC
My problem continues under Vista OS. I called HTC and they told me to re install their Sync after removing Adobe Air and all HTC drivers and Google USB drivers. I did that and reinstalled Sync and still nothing. They also told me to call microsoft for it seems operating system conflict.
My conclusion yields toward windows conflict. But I can not figure out this conflict. Perhaps something I have installed does not let my vista recognize the HTC android device and uses the windows usb drivers to create this "Unknown Device" under usb serial bus controllers. once it is an unknown device forget about Sync or ADB etc... The phone is just not recognized as android and you can not do much with it via windows.
For the person who suggested to turn "USB Debugging" on-off, i did that and still the computer recognizes that there is a usb device but again it says "usb device not recognized unknown device.."
any additional suggestions???
I've verified that my phone works fine on Windows XP. I still cannot connect to windows 7, though.
Try turning OFF Fast Boot and turning ON USB debugging. this helped for me.
same problem
I have a similar problem too .. i know its not the computer as other phones and pen drives are working ok.
Plus this phone has same problem on other computers too, where as other phones work fine.
So it has to do something with the phone and not the drivers or computer in anyway
I have the same problem, no PC recognizes my HTC Thunderbolt. Now change cable and tried with windows xp, 7 and 8. Is there any solution I can not root. I want to change the rom factory rom I do not like but I can not do anything because I do not recognize the usb. Also the menu does not appear when I connect via USB in the notification bar.

[Q] Trouble being recognized. :(

Okay, so I am attempting to flash back to stock, or anything that WORKS at this point.
I can get my phone into download mode and I connect it to my computer, but I get a rather annoying bubble that says "USB Device not recognized... one of the USB devices connected to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it."
I goto device manager and check my USB devices and it is listed as "Unknown Device" I look at it's properties and see "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
So, I check the driver details.
It says "No drivers are required or have been loaded for this device"
So I goto update drivers, browse to where I keep them and see "Windows has determined the drivers for this device are up to date."
I have reinstalled all my drivers using various methods. I have tried new USB cables and all of my USB ports.
No matter what I do ODIN won't see my phone. Nothing shows up under any of the usual COMs
PLEASE HELP! WHAT SHOULD I DO?! D':

If you're running anything Gingerbread, you need to download and install the Nexus S Drivers to get your pc to recognize your phone in dl mode.
Didn't work. Could you link me to the the drivers?
I got mine from androiddrivers.net/samsung-android-drivers/download-nexus-s-drivers/
I GOT IT!
Upon taking a closer look at things.... literally. I found a very small piece of what appeared to be pocket lint lodged in my phone's port. Pulled it out and immediately regained functionality! SO, words of wisdom from hours of frustration "Look in the hole"

Those are probably the right ones, however I got mine directly from the drivers folder in thr Android sdk gingerbread update. Are you getting an error when you try to install the drivers you downloaded?

When its connected it doesnt show up it just charges it but no pc connection i connect other phones and work well but i dont know
Open the run dialog box by pressing the windows key + R. In that box type devmgmt.msc. in the box that opens do you see anything "Andorid" or "HTC"? If you do and it has a yellow triangle next to it, that means the drivers are not installed. If that's the case let me know I'll give you a link to the drivers you need.

You can also try booting your phone into recovery mode and plug it in. It should recognize. If not then reboot your pc/laptop while your phone is powered on and it should as well.

Driver problem

Need a little help here. I cannot get my phone to connect to my computer, I'm running Windows 7. I have kies installed and have also downloaded the drivers directly from the Samsung site, but still cannot connect. When I plug in, it says installing drivers, but then gives me an error.
If I go to Device Manager, I see SAMSUNG Mobile MTP Device but with the yellow exclamation mark. Under driver details it shows the correct driver installed, but has a Code 10 Error. "The Device cannot be started".
I've rebooted comp, rebooted phone, toggled USB debugging, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, tried 2 different USB cables, and nothing is working. Anyone have any ideas?
I didn't have to do everything you listed to get it to work, but I did have to run the installer (T-Mobile_T999_GSIII_Samsung_USB_Driver_v1_4_6_0.exe) twice to get it to work.. it failed the first time.
I just unplugged and then plugged cable back in, ran the installer and installed again over old drivers.
You can also try going into Device Manager, right-click on the phone and "Update Driver Software" manually... installer extracts all drivers to the C:\Program Files\SAMSUNG\USB Drivers folder.
Still no luck. It installs the Samsung USB modem drivers fine and shows the phone correctly, but fails on the MTP Driver section.
Just for future reference for anyone that comes across this while searching. I did get this fixed. I tried a couple more usb cables and a friends computer with the same issues.
What I ended up doing was a factory reset on the phone. Plugged phone in after first boot and mtp drivers installed right away.

try installing Kies?
Its ok i got it to work. Went into download mode and plugged into my PC and windows installed some drivers, Odin detected the phone just fine. Then i booted up into android like normal but switched to PTP mode, windows then installed the MTP drivers (though it was already installed) then after that all worked well again
Please help...
Im having the same problem. But nothing seems to work for me. Tried everything possible. Re-installed drivers, connected in download mode, installed Kies, reset to factory setting..ALL TO NO AVAIL. I keep getting 'USB device attached to this computer has malfunctioned...' message...
The solution isnt always the same for all users.. Fortunately mine was fixed by a simple driver install. I remember browsing the internet and found out that there is a way to fix it but it requires simple adb commands and the Android SDK.
