iCarbons skin - HTC EVO 3D

I received my carbon fiber skin last week (back only) from icarbons.com and this thing is so great I needed to share with everyone...
The skin covers the entire back, it was very simple to install, the fit is perfect (used a hair dryer to make sure corner edges were down) and there is no "bubbling" effect. The best part IMO is the feel of this skin. It's not like your typical glossy sticker feeling cheap-o skin, it has a nice grip feeling if that makes any sense and the quality is top notch.
Here’s a link directly to the skin.

Looks good!

Amazing this skin! When I will have my Evo 3D (in few months snif...), I will buy it!
Thanks to share that with us!

that looks clean!!

How good is the texture?

Only thing I can think of to compare it to is it almost feels like the ridges on the oem battery door.
It's pretty nice feeling, as it doesnt feel like just a sticker is on the phone - more like its natural and a part of the phone.

I bought one!
Finally broke down and bought this skin for my MacBook Air... I love it, not as hard to install as I thought it would be.

With a little time, an exacto knife and some extreme patients and a steady hand you could make a carbon fiber skin just like the OP's yourself. Here is a link to an Ebay search for Carbon Fiber samples. You could also search Google. Most of these are 4" by 8" samples for $1.99. There are some larger samples for $5. I think there may even be a tut on how to do it in the OG Evo forums. Of course the holes cut would be different, but the concept is the same.

Correct! I did this to my white Evo 4G. I bought a black battery door and wrapped it in the carbon fiber. It turned out awesome an no one believed that I made it because it looked sooooo good. The feel of the material is very nice. I used it for a few months and it looked like it did the day I put it on the entire time. I just received my stock 3D battery door that I bought on eBay. I considered doing the carbon fiber to it, but I'm afraid that the texture on the stock door may cause issues. I may just paint a red stripe on my extra door, haven't decided yet. Also, i plan on buying a big sheet of the carbon fiber anyway to wrap the top of my new 17" HP Envy laptop. with the extra I'll probably try my 3D battery door. If it doesn't turn out good then I can just peel it off.... we'll see

Went on eBay ab ordered 2 "sample" sheets. They are each 4" x 8" each. Got one in red carbon fiber and one in white carbon fiber. In about an hour I'm going to get a 24" x 48" black carbon fiber sheet. Going to wrap the top of my 17" HP laptop and will have enough extra to do my battery door in black also. I'm thinking I may wrap the smooth part of my Commuter case in the red.

Damn... the price is what killed it for me. That looks sooooo good though... if only someone was up to making legitimate carbon fiber battery doors. I don't care about the price, I'd buy one in seconds.

I agree about the price. That's why i bought the material to make my own. .99 cents to1.99, and free shipping, for a sheet of carbon fiber big enough to cover the battery door and camera area

[Q] Case-mate Pop

Does anyone know anything about this case? It's not showing up on the Case-mate website, but they have it here in stock ready to ship. Has a kickstand and I was just wondering if anyone has this or has any more info on it.
19.99 + 3.95 shipping. Not bad. It's selling for 29.95 everywhere else. I'm going to buy it, but I was just hoping that someone that if someone has it I can know what to expect. Thanks guys!
i just saw this yesterday on ebay, but i do not like the front back snap of the case, i bought the $35 Platinum with kickstand from best buy instead. The kickstand isn't the best, but the case slides on top and bottom, much more secure against drops. Plus its the exact case that seidio is going to release, they make the Platinum series for best buy. Doesn't bother me that i can't charge while in kickstand mode, maybe there will be "slim-head" chargers to accommodate for it in the future.
just got in my casemate tough, pop, barely there. pop is easily the worst of the bunch.
-pros
feels more durable than the tough
kickstand
-cons
thicker than tough
black and gray accents not really nice looking, imo
kickstand is a small flimsy piece of plastic. looks VERY easy to break
-worst con
dont know if it was just me but once i stuck my 3d in, it couldnt come out. was prying on my evo3d for 5 mins to get it out, back cover actually popped off while still in case. had to pry off that very carefully since it was so thin it might break.

Thanks. Sounds like this isn't a very good case. I'm glad I got it for $20. I will buy another if I don't like it, but from your description it sounds like I won't. I like to be able to easily get my phone out of the case. I also have a TPU case on the way. I do like to be able to easily interchange cases depending on what I am doing and if it is really that hard to get it out if this thing I think it may be a dust collector.
I saw it at the sprint kiosk yesterday. It didn't look too appealing. Looked like it had a rubber sleeve that fit inside the actual case part. The kickstand looked cheap. And it was 40 bucks! The guy pulled out like 15 cases. I walked away with the smoke honeycomb tpu case. Fits like a glove.

They start to look like crap after a week or 2. The silicone starts peeling and cracking and stretches out. I went through 2 replacements before finally getting my money back. This was for my Thunderbolt though.
Had one on my hd2, scratched the hell out if it. Also the corners cracked off. Will never buy case mate again

The only case I've ever had that I liked better then the casemate pop is the Speck CandyShell. I dont see the point in leaving the sides pure silicone, I'd like to see it completely enclosed like the candyshell is. Speck must have a patent on that design or something because no one else ever makes them like that. I wouldn't be surprised to see Speck put one out for the Evo 3D either. But this White/Grey Casemate Pop is sick.. it really is. Highly recommend it. Only downside so far is it does add some weight and it doesnt fit in the iGrip dock like my TPU cases will.

I should be receiving mine tomorrow. I've noticed any case with a kickstand is bulky. I tried the Platinum one from BB and it added bulk as well but the kickstand was flimsy. Even from the pix I've seen, the official HTC case looks bulky. It might just be something we have to live with if we want a kickstand on this phone. I had a nice red Amzer snap-on case for my OG Evo and it felt like nothing was added to the phone. If they can make one like that with a kickstand, we'd be good to go.
Anyone noticed that when using the kick stand, the charging port goes to the bottom? Not a huge deal but for those who watch lots of youtube or movies...

Ghost Armor Carbon Fiber on Note

Hey guys just here to show you guys what the carbon fiber (black) looks like on the North American Galaxy Note. Feels really nice and ultra thin so you can put it in another case if you would like. Quite frankly it makes the Note look really smexy.
Does the CF offer any additional grip?
looks good. makes me wish i would of opted for the CF, thought about doing the white CF
It doesn't seem to be that grippy, it's a bit more grippy than the original material for sure. The reason I got it was because the back and sides had the potential to be scratched up really easily and I didn't like the glossy feel of the sides.
Also, I would probably get black or gunmetal as the white gets dirty quick I hear.
Remember though, real carbon fiber will impead reception. I have their matt product on mine, but would NOT recommend it at all. Since it's clear and the battery cover is "pitted", it leaves ugly looking almost air bubbles under it ( and yes, I had them put it on for me, that sutff SUCKS putting it on ).
The screen protector of theirs, is better then most, however the SAME PEOPLE make theirs, zagg, and most everyone elses, and it's 3M The diffrence is in the coating. I do like the ghost one the best, as it does not leave the nasty orange peal effect on the screen, and the coating does seem to last approx 6-8 months before it has to be replaced. If you get it done at a mall kiosk, they will re-do it for free if it gets hosed, ( well it's 5$ fee to do it is all ).
Now, if you want a killer bra for your car, ghost armor is your company. It's what they started with. I watched one of their employees do a car recently in it. Took him less then 4 hours, and it was flawless. Takes me that long to get the screen cover on and it looks like crap, i can't even imagine doing something like a hood or what have you.

Ghost Armor is a local company here in AZ.
They say it is definitely Carbon Fiber not vinyl.
Btw, gun metal looks amazing on my blue/black note.

lol... well, you can go back and demand for your money back then ...
google for "3M DI NOC" and read !!... I got these on my other devices and they are definitely NOT real carbon fiber.
carbonfiberfilm.com
3M™ DI-NOC™ is a high-end vinyl from 3M™ from their Architectural Finishes series. The vinyl can be installed on all sorts of surfaces, regardless of the curvature. This means there are an unlimited amount of applications, from the interior of your car to the back of your laptop.
The CA-421 (black) model that we sell gives a dry carbon look, though it's available in 8 different colors. Contrary to initial belief, carbon fiber DI-NOC™ is not just a printed carbon fiber pattern, but in fact has a three-dimensional texture to it. This allows it to reflect light the same way that real carbon fiber would, making it the best real-world alternative to carbon fiber when you just want the look without paying a ton of money.

id stay away from white, ive had it on before and it attracted so much dirt.. there wasnt one day where it was clean.
Man that looks awesome!
We only have 1 small mall stand for Ghost Armor. They only had the clear when i went. Would have loved this CF.
I have tried several of these "skins" over the years ad have not found one that did not eventually start peeling up on the edges. They all look great when new, but they didn't hold up .
Not saying yours is the same. Just my experience with what I had used.

I got the gunmetal version, and after barely a day I'm worried about how it will hold up. I am no Freddy Kruger and accidentally scratched my nail across it, and now it has a scratch. From just my fingernail. To the OP, how is yours holding up over time?

So far so good and I've had it in pockets, and cases. A couple of tiny scratches but it's hardly noticeable as mine is black. No peeling to speak of yet. Though I assume the only peeling will be from the sides, which I don't mind to take off if it does peel but it's on like glue still.
I actually work for ghost armor, and I also have a note , they do sell other colors other then black, gray and white. I myself have almost a lime green on my Note and it looks quite good!

Pictures of note with Ghost Armor carbon fiber, Sweet Armor, and Glas-t

I haven't been thrilled with any of the cases or films I've tried on my Note, but I really liked the look of the Sweet Armor CNC-machined aluminum bumper. So, I decided that while I was waiting for Otterbox or a Kracken or something that I liked I'd go ahead and put this together.
On the front of the phone I didn't like any of the non-glass screen protectors I've tried including Invisibleshield, Armor Suit, and Ghost Armor. Whether it was S-pen tracks, or the Speck case lifted the film I just wasn't happy. So, I finally ended up with a Glas-t and have had it on for a couple weeks and I'm still fairly happy.
Then for cases/protection I've used the Speck, full Invisibleshield, full Armor Suit, and Boxwave Resolute. None of em were really what I wanted. I have an Otterbox Defender on my Streak 5 and I was quite happy with it. I have several friends with aluminum bumpers on their iPhones including mechanics so I figured I'd give the Sweet Armor one a shot. I went with bright chrome for the contrast.
On the back I have a clear film, which I was fine with when the phone was in the Speck or Boxwave cases, but out on its own it doesn't look that good on the Blue Note. I decided carbon fiber might be the look I wanted hanging out of the back of the Sweet Armor but I didn't want to try trimming tabs off the international back cover. So, after looking at pictures, I went to Ghost Armor for their carbon fiber stickers. I chose the gunmetal because the Note spends a lot of time near the windshield, and I hope the lighter color will cut down on radiated heat absorption. (lot of sun in SoCal).
Anyway, they all work fine together, I can still pull the back off the phone even in the Sweet Armor bumper. I'd prefer if the Sweet Armor was a little taller to better protect the screen, but for the time being I shot some pictures of the combo for anyone else who was thinking of going this route.
And, one shot with the watch I wear the most.

Thanks. I don't think so it adds a lot of weight. I was actually surprised when I got it just how light it was. There are air pockets and rubber tape on the inside so it isn't aluminum all the way through and right up against the phone.
I didn't weigh it as my gram scale died and I haven't picked up another one yet. Heck, I didn't even put one case in my left hand and one in my right. That watch is just over 1/2 pound or 258 grams as it sits. So, I am not too concerned about weight really, just protecting the phone and looking good.
I do like how solid the phone feels now as compared to the plastic or rubber cases. Any drops so far have only been 2-3 feet onto carpet or 3 feet from the car mount to the floor in the Jeeps. So, no real hard-core testing about drop resistance really.
Loving the look but itdoesnt look comfortable to hold like My iPhone 4. too many sharp edges. I loved the way my iPhone 3GS felt, perfect curvature, no sharp edges.

I've never held either iPhone, so I can't tell from my own comparison what its like. I guess it all depends on how sensitive you are. The edges are all chamfered. Small chamfers, sure, but I wouldn't call the edges sharp. The corners could be rounded more for more comfort, but even with messing with the phone for hours on end, I don't find myself in pain. The Speck case is a more natural feel in the hand than this one for me and I think that is two-fold. One is the edges, as you've noted, but the other is the raised corners. The Boxwave case had raised corners as well and I found I liked the Speck case better because of it.

And, yep, 77 bucks for the chrome as pictured. Plus, expedited shipping to the US brought it to $102 or $103. Ordered one for me, and one for my girl. Different addresses, so quite a bit into it. But, the Speck wasn't working for us, I was sick of peel-back rubber dual-layer cases, so CNC-machined really piqued my interest.
As you might imagine from CNC-designed (presumably) and machined, fit and finish is awesome. Could provide more protection as I think I mentioned earlier, but I'm good with this for the time being.

Please post pics. This thread is good, unless you want to start another thread. In all the reading I did on reviews before I pulled the trigger a couple of them were pro-black pretty big time. But, for me, with this price point, I wanted it to stand out, hence the chrome I chose. Also, the "black chrome" on the site I just couldn't tell WTH it really was.
Oh, and thanks. I really like the result too.

I've been hesitant to pull the trigger on such a expensive case, but after seeing yours with the ghost armor I had too. I agree I wasn't sure on the black because it wouldn't stand out........and for the price I really wanted it to, but I'm a sucker for black and figured it would look good with the gun metal ghost armor. Are you having issues with any of the screws coming out? Is the ghost armor easy to install?

No problem with the screws coming out at all, and I daily drive some of the most harsh and vibration-prone vehicles on the planet. Old Jeeps.
I actually thought about using never seize on the screws to make sure they come out when I need them to. Steel screw plus aluminum case equals high probability of corrosion and "welding" themselves together.
I just used the included screwdriver and got them reasonably tight. I read somewhere that someone snapped the screws on installation because they used a larger-than-included screwdriver.
As for the ghost armor, I've got lots of experience over the years installing the original invisibleshield. (wet install) The ghost armor was easier to install than the original invisibleshield ever was (no real worries about bubbles, screen alignment, etc since I only used the carbon fiber back portion). So, if its your first time it might be tricky, but the instructions aren't too bad and should get you through it if you have some basic sticker-applying skills.
Cool. Appreciate it. Is the carbon fiber a wet install? Seems like you would just put it on....maybe I just misunderstood ya. Good to hear on the screws, I drive a UPS truck
there not the most luxurious and can be quite bumpy as well.

I did mean that it was a wet install.
But it does make more sense to just put it on.
So, I went back and checked the directions, and sure enough wet. The directions state to mix up some soapy water, but I just used a wet solution I had from some other wet install screen saver I didn't end up liking.

Carbon fiber-look (3M DI-NOC) on my Note II

I'm one of those people who hated the Verizon branding on the Note II. I've done this mod on most of my recent phones. It's very simple and involves some 3M DI-NOC carbon-fiber looking vinyl and careful trimming (and a hair dryer for the corners).
I hand-cut the button and the rear cover. I bought a sheet of this from an eBay seller a while ago. I like the way it looks, especially compared to the stock back. It also adds a bit of grip.

I'm one of those people who hated the Verizon branding on the Note II. I've done this mod on most of my recent phones. It's very simple and involves some 3M DI-NOC carbon-fiber looking vinyl and careful trimming (and a hair dryer for the corners).

Pretty cool lookin! :good:
Great job! This looks so much better than those cheesy aluminum stickers.
Sadly, I have white. But the branding really doesn't bother me.

I usually shy away from the carbon fiber everything style but this looks nice and clean. Good work
I did that to my nexus but the carbon fiber actually made it more slick. It was the same stuff too..... I might give it a go again to see if it improved my n2

The company Phantom Skinz makes a carbon fiber kit that looks like this. And they offer it in different colors.

OP5 dBrand skins

On Jul 3rd I pre-ordered two dBrand skins for my OP5 and they arrived on Jul 6th. The two skins were the Mahogany wood (back and camera lens cover) and the Hyperblack Titanium (back with red camera lens cover and red 1+ logo). Even though I wanted to add the front Mahogany skins the fact that I've also ordered the Ozly tpsp screen protector made me realized I'd have issues whenever I needed to replace the screen cover.
Attached are pictures of both skins with accessories un-applied and the Mahogany skins applied including the camera lens cover. Notice that the two Mahogany skins have different wood patterns. Running your finger over each skin I realized that the Mahogany adds almost no additional grip to the slippery naked OP5 while the Hyperblack Titanium skin has more texture which I believed would add more grip. This is not to say that once applied the Mahogany skin did not reduce the overall slipper feel of a naked OP5, as it did. In the future I'll likely try the Hyperblack Titanium but right now I really like the Mahogany's overall look the best.
I still bought a cheap clear plastic case which is currently on a slow boat from China. I'll use it when I'm going someplace where accidents are more likely such as camping or a party. These skins are so thin that I don't anticipate putting the case on to be an issue.
This is the first time I've every bought or applied a skin as I've previously only gone with bumper cases. Over all I think the application went well but I certainly don't have the corner flaps applied as well as seen on dBrand's OP5 application video. Most definitely you need a hairdryer during application as I had a bubble under the skin and heating that section and the bubble's path to the outside saved having to peal the skin off to start again. It works much like you push bubbles out from a clear plastic screen protector. Getting the initial bottom alignment applied properly is the key to the rest of the application. Mess that up and you alignment issues multiply. Heating and stretching the skin is dangerous and only helps with the tiniest of misalignment.
The dBrands fit overall and specifically around the buttons is as perfect as a mass produced item can be. In conclusion, if you choose to use a skin you'd be hard pressed to find a brand with a more accurate fit.
P.S. For grip the Carbon Fiber would likely be your best bet but I thought it was butt ugly so went another way.
Edit: Added top, bottom, right and left side pictures.
Hyperblack comes along with the white 1+ logo? Or is it just the packaging design?
I am thinking of buying Black Dragon.
Usually, when is the Dbrand Sale? Any idea?
Thanks

No, what appears on the Hyperblack picture as a white 1+ logo is just the skin's backing tape. The Hyperblack I picked has a cut out of the 1+ logo then I ordered the red colored logo cut out to fill in the skin's logo cut out. On the Mahogany skin I chose not to have any 1+ logo so the skin was solid (no logo cut out at all). The Black Dragon skin was already available when I purchased my skins. I was tempted to get that instead of the Hyperblack.
I have no idea when there will be a sale. I didn't feel the price was too excessive. In fact I would have only bought the Mahogany at this time but the added $5 for shipping meant that a second skin only cost me an extra $6 and the shipping on both skins became free. That's much like how Amazon prices small items to be just under the free shipping costs to get you to buy one more item. In this case I went for it as a Hyperblack skin also tempted me.
I just got the black dragon skin with orange logo and camera cutout. I previously used the titanium and the hyperblack on my Nexus 6p and I can say that the dragon skin has a very similar texture than the hyperblack. IN terms of looks, I have to say that it looks similar to the hyperblack except for the cracked look/texture and the slight silver highlights in certain areas. All in all, I think it looks amazing on this device.
Im looking to grab one of the Mah Wood one and having it under my Orzly flexi case. It looks pretty amazing with the wood skin. Would you be able to show off the sides of the phone? I would love to see the fit on the sides
dBrand sure do make some precision skins! Let us know once you installed them!
Here is mine! Just finished. Marble with cement logo

I added pictures of both side and top and bottom to the original post. Don't be too harsh of my corner imperfections, I was a rookie

Yep, new device new forum visits
Not Dbrand, but Gadgetshieldz. This is a carbon Flat Back.

Looking good!! I've ordered mine but with red logo cutout. Is there good grip with the black dragon skin? My only quirk with this device so far is how slippy the back is and was hoping the black dragon skin would sort that out for me..

From what dBrand have been saying, the dragon skins look to be quite grippy. I'd love to use skins over cases but don't trust myself enough

I don't trust myself either!! Thinking of getting one of the rhinoshield bumpers so I can keep it looking nice, on the back at least :victory: Hopefully that along with the tempered glass SP I have one will protect it.. and so long as the skin is grippy I hopefully shouldn't drop it.

Just be careful with that combo on a Rhino Shield. they can rip off Tempered glass and the cases lately have been so tight getting them on with even a skin on is really hard and taking it off is even worse. I damaged my OP3 trying to get the Rhino Shield off when using a skin. best results is to cut the skin so it doesn't go up and down the sides or corners of the phone.
I still remember ordering that case there was no warning on the prouduct page about it not working with tempered glass and when I complianed and got nowhere a sudden disclaimer went up :/

It definitely has some texture that helps the phone be less slippery but not as much as I expected. But it certainly help add a decent amount of grip, especially on the sides of the phone which are very thin and rounded.

Ye my mate was saying the RhinoShield on his OP3t is way too tight and difficult to get off. I saw one on a S8 and looks a fair bit looser, hoping it's a bit looser on the OP5 and fits.
Thanks for the heads up though:good:

Thanks, so long as it adds some amount of grip I'll be happy. If not I might just end up getting a case:good:

So it does actually look as good in real life as in the renders then eh? How does it feel?
