Is there a way to switch between cyangenmod and a custom stock rom? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I was wondering if theres a way to switch between cyangen and a stock rom, i want to try out cyangen but it doesnt seem to have enough of the features i regularly use but at the same time i would like to use it for roms only so i can use my ps3 controller with it.

- Going to another ROM from CM7?
You can go back and forth freely between CM7 and other ROMs via ROM Manager or ClockworkMod recovery as the file systems are the same and nandroid backup/restore works to go between ROMs.
That's what it says in the first post of cyanogenmod rom

I know you can do a nandroid backup but i was thinking more along the lines of running it off the sd card or somehow partitioning the system partition so you have 2 of them there. If i did the nandroid way, i would have to keep a large portion reserved for the backup and i would have to do it every time i wanted to play a game which would ruin the life of the flash memory and it would be a pain generally. I saw on All About Android there was an app called boot manager but i dont know if that will work on the SGS II

There is some experimentation with that at the moment, apparently it kinda works, i know there is a thread about it.
Search for boot manager sgs2 or sgs2 dual boot and it should be there.

Think the thread is in themes and apps section, just to narrow it down. Look for multiboot as search term.

[Q] Nunace Install

Hi All,
I just flashed the community Rom and CWM ver3.
CWM3 does not support amend scripts. I would like to install Nuance-Froyo (an add on for SC 2.92).
I have extracted it annd attempted to install that way but no luck.
Could anyone advise me on how to install it??
Thanks in advance,

This is themes and apps bro. His post was more of an app request which is more than appropriate for this section. Notice that this isn't "Themes and Apps Development."
Personally I think nuance blows. I use the aosp Voice Dialer app for bt headset hands free. You can grab it from jt's cm 6.2 and push it to system/app. Vlingo also does the job rather well.

If you go by the forum rules, all questions should be directed towards Q&A. If your post can have a properly attached question mark at the end of it's title, chances are, guess what that makes it?

Exactly my point.
There is a system and rule in place for a reason. I have reported the post so it can be moved to its correct forum.
(ends wrong forum bashing )
Like I said in my earlier post, I think there are better alternatives to Nuance. But if you really want it, I repacked it with an edify script. Untested, let me know if it works.

[Help] I just installed ROM Manager...

Hey guys, I just installed ROM Manager on my Samsung Galaxy Ace and went to backup my current ROM. After I entered a name for my backup and pressed the Backup button my phone has become a brick? I cannot turn it on no matter what I do. Can anyone please help me because if I do not get this working, I will be screwed, I'm on a 2 year contract with T-Mobile.
It's bricked. You should read the first topic on this forum.
You can try uploading firmware with odin, not sure if it'll help.
Volume down + Home +Power what happens? If you see "download" you should be able to use Odin!

Yes, Odin found your Phone, all good but you only have the cooper file... you need the other files, too !
1. Disconnect your phone !

Yeah I stopped it after it was taking too long, I also tried the one package (the one in the picture)/full package installation (the one you're pointing out), none worked and my phone doesn't boot into download mode, I have noticed a lot of people have had this problem. I am going to have to take it to the samsung repair center near me.
This was all caused by a recovery tool... how frigging ironic.

Sorry but I think you´r the one to blame, don´t use stuff you´r not supposed to do...
U DO HAVE TO START TO READ BEFORE YOU TOUCH things, sorry, wasn´t meant to be annoying CAPS but it´s very important...
There is one more (maybe) solution to try...
Q8: Oh no! My phone is bricked! I accidentally flashed the wrong device in ROM Manager!
A8: Oh no . You might wanna try either:
Method 1:
-Remove the SIM card , SD card and battery from the phone
-Hold Volume Down + Home + Power
-(Optional) Bring it near a heat source .
-While still holding those buttons , place the battery into the phone
-It should go into Download Mode .
-Try to flash a full package file via ODIN and your phone should come back to life .
If that doesn't work , try Method 2:
-Bring the phone to a nearby service center for repair .

I was not attacking or categorizing you, I tried to help! But you just did not read. That's why you tried to flash with the .ops file only. I'm no expert but I guess that ruined the very important Bootloader part of the phone.

No I didn't, I had selected to install the whole package file that I got from samsungmobile or w/e it is, not the seperate ones.
Look at your Screenshot, it proofs what I said...there is no phone, modem, csc and pda file.
Once again, it wasn´t meant to attack you or your fault(s), I´m not an expert, far away from it and I bet many here have done stupid things with their phones ;-)
Just read and learn and if a Dev says "Do not this or do not that"... DON´T DO IT !

[Q] Custom ROMs & pre-installed apps

I've just got a Samsung Galaxy S II and am very excited! It's got Navigon pre-installed. I'm coming from a Samsung Nexus S which I installed various custom ROMs on and would like to install custom ROMs on my new Galaxy S II. Titanium will backup system apps as well as ones you've installed yourself. You don't have to worry about it.

Some rom will be no-wiped option. So, you can flash the rom and everything will be there.
But for me, clean install might be better.

is there a way to add language pack into ics keyboard? i hope to have chinese input
and how to use 'next line' instead of 'send' in Enter button when sms ?
possible solution
using root explorer go to data>apps. you will find an app named something like com.playstore or something like that. just find the app with the playstore icon. delete it but before deleting copy it somewhere else just to make sure. now the app will be uninstalled from your phone. download google play app from somewhere on the internet and install it. i think that it should fix the problem.
Hey imbawind,
did u use your adrenaline script with the cm rom?
i think the problem is the script.
Whenever i use it on stock rom, it work just fine, but when i use it on cm rom include cm9, the market force close when i click it. But the problem solve after delete play store from system app and clear dalvik-cache and reinstall again.
I think your script only work on stock rom.

Porting ROMs from other devices?

I asked this over in Android General and I was pointed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1598713
Could anyone confirm if this would allow porting of a ROM like HTC Sense to the Xperia?
I posted this here as I reckon that if it is indeed possible, it could be of some use to the dev community in here. If not, mods can delete this
Our phone only has 480mb internal storage.
HTC Sense is well over 1gb just for the ROM.
Sent from R800x
that's wron
a normal sense 4.0a rom needs 420mb system partition
our is only 300mb.
so we need to decrease the zip (remove apps) and move some apps to /data in zip.
then symlink /data
and then we can go porting it
I would use a Sense 4 rom , I'm going to mess around later lol.

I know what the error is. I need to jump into Linux to unpack the kernel and edit the init.rc file (Only possible on Linux).
Going to flash back to MIUI temporarily to move the files onto my SD card to shift them onto Linux. Going to do that a bit later on as Im going to be a bit busy. If I get anything working I'll PM you and Dropbox the ROM for you to try If all comes back working, I'll release it to the general users
This will hopefully be my first ROM development
