[Q] changing wifi speed? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi, noob here.... I checked the forum and didnt see an answer so thougt i would post. I have a wifi connection capable of much faster speeds than my tab is connecting. Can anyone tell me how to change the wifi speed setting? Thanks

Good question, I don't see a setting anywhere for that option.

you mean the same as changing MTU for network cards on a PC? what does your LAN speed test show? For my SGS1, the wifi speeds and the time it takes to connect to a network differs from which modem I use.

I think OP means wi-fi link speed, e.g. 11mbps, 54, 150 or 300mbps. My 11n router doesn't show what speed my tab is connected as and it appears there is no information on tab either. But whatever link speed it is, it will be much faster than my internet connection speed anyway. So it really doesn't matter for me personally. If you use Wi-Fi Kies or other app to download video files from your LAN, it may make some small difference. I'm sure the default is a balance between speed and battery consumption.

Connection priority

anyone knows how to make the wifi take priority in internet access whenever it is turned on and available at the same time with an edge connection, i always have to go to comm manager and turn off the data then turn on wifi to access that wifi speed.. thank you
Some helpful information that might apply to your question can be found at:

when enabled, WiFi takes priority over UMTS connection, so even if you have them both up, the phone will choose the wireless network, unless you are trying to browse to a web site which was added to 'exclusions list' (like your operator's home page).
but, only if you have changed the default settings to set that WiFi connects you to the Internet. Which is not the default.
To do so you have to go into the Settings -> Connections -> Network Cards -> Network Adapter.
</snip>
I have found this information on several different forums with several different folks and use cases posted. I also think that you might get some milage out of the "comm mgr pro" or "IP Dashboard" applications as well...
Hope this helps,
Bob
Thank you Bob, ill mess with it a little more and post feedback, that was helpful
Thanks again

Out of curiosity, I have wifi and 3G active in Comm Manager.
Start IE and launch a site, discovered wifi has the priority over 3G.

Simple, I have both activated, move near and away my router range.
When the Wifi signal is weak, the service provider (3G, my case) takes over.
Otherwise when the Wifi signal is strong, the 3G never get to activate.
Maybe others had a better and different approach.
All telco service signal should be available unless you are in fringe area.

oh cool, yea this sounds like the way to go so far, noone has come up with a better solution yet? maybe benchmarking the speeds of each stil it depends on your cable provider (wifi i mean)

Slow Wi-Fi download speeds?

Has anyone run into slow Wi-Fi download speeds? Speedtest which reports accurate results on my laptop running over Wi-Fi only reaches around 3-4MBit download speeds (Should be around 30MBit) but upload reports fine at 8MBit. It's not just a problem with speedtest and can also be noticed when actually downloading updates/game files. Wi-Fi settings reports a connection of 65MBit but shouldn't this be 130MBit (As laptop reports) when connecting via N Wi-Fi?
Any ideas?
Edit: Seems that channels were at fault, I changed it to auto and the speeds are now respective of the actual connection

[Q] wifi band configuration

I was quite surprised to see there is no configuration to choose 2.4ghz or 5ghz, on top of this I cant find a way to view the current band in use. Why make a dual band phone where 5ghz is effectively disabled?
I then read that the option used to exist in 4.0 but was removed in 4.1 and someone made this app.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1891970
Now this app works, I can now use 5ghz which more than doubles my wireless speed, great right?
Well its ok but it resets to 2.4ghz everytime wifi is turned on again, so the setting doesnt stick. So basically everytime I use wifi I have to open the app and select 5ghz. Even the app itself doesnt report what band is in use, it just allows you to select the band to use.
Is there a way to (a) easily see what band is in use and (b) set 5ghz as the default.
Thread moved to porper forum.
I have tried giving 5ghz its own wireless ssid so seperate from 2.4ghz but then its much slower. It seems when the ssid is shared, it uses some kind of parallel mode where both can be used at the same time.
So what I want is when 2.4ghz and 5ghz share the same ssid and the phone connects to 5ghz. (preferably via an option on the phone).

[Q] WiFi internal network transfer speed

Hi guys I would like to know why when using my phone to download through wifi in internet the speed is always perfect (max speed of my connection 5MB\Sec) but when instead I use wifi to transfer files in my LAN to PC I can't reach speed above 300kb \sec...someone knows why? Thanks

Use 4G and Wifi in the same time

Hello users,
I'm wondering if there is a way to use the 4G connection with the wifi in the same time ?
almost like what samsung do with the "booster" option so that the WIFI can get "help" by 4G speed.
Thanks in advance.
Actually the method samsung use is similar to wifi+ on huawei phones. It is not boosting but it switches between wifi and 4g connection depending on condition like connection status, internet availability and speed. As far as i know it prioritize wifi connection but there is a danger of eating up your mobile data quota if your wifi connection is not good.
I am sorry if you are refering to download booster on samsung device. That is a true dual connection. If i remember correctly you can use an app called speedify to get that option or something called super download booster which require root.
