[webOS] The HP Touchpad Performance Tweaks Thread - TouchPad General

Hey guys! Here's a guide I found that covers going through jumping into dev mode, installing PreWare, and speeding this thing up hardcore!
http://forums.precentral.net/hp-touchpad/293028-new-touchpad-heres-your-get-started-guide.html
Like the guy says, install all the patches he recommends. My TouchPad is quick as hell now. And sooooo much more usable!
On top of those suggestions, I'd also recommend removing the tap ripple since it can slow down some PDK apps and imho the pad feels more responsive without it. Remember - this is your touchpad, and customization has been one of the best features of the webOS platform, so feel free to put things however you like, I'm just suggesting the patches etc that made MY touchpad great.
So if you've followed along your patches should look something like this:
ad blocker (or max block - one or the other NOT both)
remove tap ripple
advanced reset options
faster card animations hyper version
increase touch sensitivity and smoothness 10
muffle system logging
quiet powered messages
remove dropped packet logging
unset cfq io scheduler
unthrottle download manager
private browsing

followed that same list, definitely snappy now. Also gonna go from my overclocked 1.5ghz to 1.7ghz

Nice improvement on my Touchpad, thank you.

Do all these need removing before we can install WebOS updates? Not that we are going to get any.

Can somebody sticky this? Lots of good info the above article.

And here's another one: Overclocking the HP TouchPad cranks up the speed

Good question.
Also, is the overclock really key to the performance improvements? Given the gameing/video capabilities of the tablet, I would imagine there's a lot of power/responsiveness tucked away in the hardware that these software patches will unleash making the overclock somewhat pointless.

Install the WebOS update from 3.0.0 to 3.0.2 first, then install all these homebrew patches. Otherwise you just gotta install the patches again. It takes 5 min, not a big deal.
And yes overclocking does improve the responsiveness of the OS. I just did it, it is noticeable.

when i plug the tablet into the computer and start webos quickinstall it just sits there doin nothing. Am I having this problem because im on 64bit windows 7

I just ran this on an win7 64 bit box. The instructions are pretty clear about plugging the USB cable into the device and not the computer, then pressing the volume button(s) and power. It should give you a USB icon, then you can plug the device into your computer and press "next" on the quickinstall.
I can verify that it does indeed work. Maybe making sure that you're running the .jar as admin if your user account doesn't have admin rights?

im not sure about the volume and power button press but if i start webos quickinstall first it doesnt see the tablet and if i plug the tablet in then start quickinstall quickinstall just sits there doing nothing

you must get into developer mode

I've got the same problem - been trying to sort it for ages, I'm in dev mode - uninstalled, reinstalled, redownloaded, restarted twice and just trying the power/thing now and its now in the app but no devices connected - will update if I solve this!
EDIT: Ok I updated the thing using webos doctor. Then went back into quick install and it worked first time!! I would suggest doing the web doctor routwe for this reason!

I thought the tap ripple was cool at first and then I installed the remove tap ripple and have to say it HELPS A LOT! There's no lag when clicking links now.

and one you have done so, install the patch to unhide the developer icon.
it makes getting into developer mode much easier.

Yes there is a download manager.

I noticed in the description of the CFQ scheduler that it can be an issue if you are using the F15C kernel. So if you plan to OC using that kernel then don't install that patch.

CFQ Patch is only for stock kernel me thinks.

guys, how exactly do i overclock this thing?
i installed the UberKernel and Govna. What settings do i have to make in Govna in order to overclock the TouchPad to 1,5ghz?

Archos 101 extremely slow?

I just received my Archos 101 yesterday, and after loading a few apps, some music/video on the external sd card, froyo, and LauncherPro, the tablet is extremely slow - to the point where it's not as 'responsive' as it used to be. Has anyone found anything (e.g. lagfix) that makes it a bit faster? I want to love this tablet because of the hell I had to go through with Amazon to get it, but it's really making me pissed off as of lately. Any help would be great - thanks in advance.
install os monitor, sort processes by cpu load and tell us if anything is eating all the CPU
http://www.appbrain.com/app/os-monitor/com.eolwral.osmonitor
I noticed the same thing on my A70. I switched from Launcher Pro to ADW launcher and it's noticably smoother without uninstalling anything else.
Why does os monitor show it is using 40% of my cpu?
Go to Settings / About Device
Register and upgrade your firmware to 2.0.71.
Go To Settings / About Device Power Management /
click on Overdrive
Go To Settings / Repair & formating / calibrate touch screen and accelerometer
do a google searck for gAppsinstaller_v4.apk
keep clicking untill it is installed on your device.
You will now have full google market.
Go to google market - Get Dolphin Browser - make it your default
go to google market - get vplayer beta to play all flash and other videos
recomended google market - get videos
google market - i music
Should be flying now - If running slow - go to desktop - click on system monitor - stop all programs - should be flying again -
tip - firefox is really slow and crashes?? dont install
When using touch screen never push hard - A light quick brushing action works best - or a light quick tap - always light on your fingertips -
tip - do not try to root - not necessary with overdrive setting - full root will come someday. No root is working right now for this firmware.
Good luck
David
i almost forgot
dont forget to go to android market and download and install adobe flash.
Try to erase all Mediafiles and reboot.
If your A101 is faster then you have a File that breaks the mediascanner.
Also if you are still on 2.1 the Mediascanner is running at every boot and scanns every file.
This has been fixed with the last FW.
Alright I did everything you guys have recommended and it is signficantly faster now. I think my biggest problem was that I didn't realize how sensitive the screen is compared to my Captivate. Also, is there any point in setting the cpu to 1000mhz using z4root/setcpu? (haven't been able to get that to work anyways, z4mod just freezes).
I got my Arcos 101 about a week ago and noticed the horrible sluggishness too. I tried doing the firmware update to Froyo and it was still sluggish. I'm now sure exactly what the option was called, but after the Froyo update, I went into settings and did a full format on the device. It reloaded everything from scratch, but I lost all of the 3rd party apps. So I called Archos and they pointed me to ftp://support.archos.com. There is a file called A101 HDD Contents.zip Just download it and unzip the folders. In one of the folders is the Archos customizations (apk files). Just install whatever programs you want and you will be back in business.
One other thing, you will need to set your CPU speed to Performance to get the 1ghz speed. The 2.0.71 build downclocks the cpu to 800mhz.
Oh, and I'm in the same boat with not being able to Root my device. Please z4root creator, fix this.
@dijitalm:
You don't need root for 1Ghz as you can easily set this in the normal settings.
And before you try again, neither z4root nor any other sw that uses rageagainstthecage is working.
The main reason I need root is to get my Tablet to see Ad-Hoc Networks. Specifically I have WIFI Router on my phone and my laptop sees/connects to the phone fine, but the tablet will not see the access point. I know that there are fixes for this that people have come up with but it requires root access.
Oh, and I have a Windows based phone (Touch Pro 2), so I can't get the bluetooth tethering option to work either.

Hmm. Others have gotten WM phones to work with BT tethering.
When I try to associate the Archos 101, they attempt to pair and then my phone says "it (the tablet) doesn't have any services that we are interested in". That statement on my phone is so enfuriating because I'll be the judge of what services I'm interested in having my phone use. My old XV6800 (Titan) did bluetooth tethering like a charm, and if it were still alive, I'd even consider going back to it.
Yup I'd be happy non rooting it if I could just get tethering to work.

I tried what is on post #5 here and this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10022941&postcount=4
so far, the combination of both things have made a big difference in the performance of my A70. It's a pretty smooth experience now.
ADW and Launcher Pro
I'm glad my help with Launcher Pro helped you. I installed the new ADW Launcher EX yesterday. I will have to say, It is faster depending on the settings. I used the "Fast" [reset profile. Right off the bat it was flying faster than launcher pro. I would suggest that launcher now that it has been revamped.

Performance tweaks for XRON/CM7/CM9

Here are a few tweaks to get XRON/CM7/CM9 running a bit smoother
Make sure to create a Nandroid before applying these tweaks, just in case something goes wrong
Smoother Scrolling - for XRON2.9 Deodexed/CM9 (unless you apply the mod yourself).
Files are attached, make sure to rename the file to framework.jar.
The instructions to replace the framework.jar are included in the original post under D. Installing steps.
Or you can use ADB:
Code:
adb push c:\path-to-framework\framework.jar /system/framework
adb shell chmod 0644 /system/framework/framework.jar
This mod really helps smooth out menu scrolling, most noticeable while browsing long lists like in Titanium Backup or Root Explorer, I've noticed a speed boost under Youtube as well (CM9). This made a bigger difference on XRON, but still makes a notable difference under CM9.
Reduce Lag - For XRON/CM7/CM9a0.5
Up threshold tweak, under advanced settings with CPU Master/SetCPU - 30-40% should provide you with a lag-free experience.
Use SetCPU instead of CPU Master for CM9a0.5 with BrickedKernel.
This tweak will get rid of most of the jumpiness in heavy applications, like Cordy or Opera Mobile. I ran the TP before and after side-by-side with the iPad 2 and it went from about 30-40% the speed of the iPad 2 to about 80-90% (Opera Mobile VS Safari). A big improvement. The downside to this tweak is you will experience worse battery life.
Reduce Lag - For older versions of XRON (before 2.8) and CM7
In the build.prop make these changes:
1. Change debug.composition.type=c2d to debug.composition.type=gpu
2. Add debug.sf.hw=1 (or change to match if it already there)
This build.prop change will help speed up the UI dramatically if you are still running CM7 3.5 or an older version of XRON.
Improve Auto-Rotation Speed - CM9a0.5
Included in the cm9a0.5-framework.jar are modifications that should help speed up auto-rotation as explained here and here.
These tweaks made a dramatic difference on my TP. Good luck!
These will probably speed up MIUI too, but you'll have to do the framework.jar mod yourself. If you do, feel free to share the jar and I'll add it to the post.
Off-topic, but I booted up webOS for the first time in months today to update it. Damn, that thing is slow.
Interesting, I'll try out #1 and #2. Thanks for putting it into a separate thread since I wouldn't have noticed it otherwise.

WebOS, running an overclocked kernel at close to 1.8GHz on both cores, is extremely smooth. The multitasking and saving of current app states is excellent. Too bad there's not much more than the browser, email, and Angry Birds and a few Gameloft games to put it to use.
Going to try out these tweaks, thanks!

I really like WebOS as well, HP/Palm really hit the nail on the head concerning the user experience and multitasking. With all the Preware tweaks and the device overclocked it is quite fast.
But the web experience is still too sluggish for my taste, especially when compared to Android running Opera Mobile with the tweaks above or an iPad 2.. And of course there is a major lack of applications for WebOS.
Thanks for posting. I'm a TP newb running CM7 3.5. It sounds like 2 and 3 are applicable to CM7. I'm going to give 3 a try.
Are there any other general tips for CM7 or the Touchpad in general?

The first one will work on CM7 as well, but you'll have to mod the framework.jar yourself as explained in this post.
You could also try my framework.jar, but it may break your install (if you try it make sure to create a nandroid first).
Yeah, it broke my wifi even though I'm on Xron. I'll just have to do it manually later

Which version? It should have no problems on 2.9 deodexed, I've done it multiple times.
Make sure you set the permissions/owner the same as the old file.
It was 2.9
However, I suspect the problem might have been something else as restoring the nandroid didn't fix it and I had to go back to an even older nandroid.

The main problem with webOS is it lacks text reflow. The iOS and WP7 also lack it. I don't know why Android is the only OS that gets this right. I actually wish I had text reflow on my desktop/laptop browsers, and occasionally boot into a x86 Android virtual machine just for specific sites whose fonts don't play well with Chrome (since Google removed font size increases years ago and never replaced it).
I also don't understand why no one complains about the lack of text reflow in other OS's. Maybe I'm just blind or something.
BTW (a little more on topic), do these tweaks work with ICS?

I'm not sure. The framework.jar mod might, but I have not tried it yet. The up threshold tweak would probably help, but I haven't figured out how to change that yet. The build.prop tweak did not seem to change anything for me.
Updated OP with info/tweaks for CM9.
Are we supposed to rename CM9-framework.jar to framework.jar in order to replace the framework.jar that's already present in /system/framework?

Correct.
Create a nandroid beforehand just in case. Also, make sure that you set the permissions/owner the same as the original file.
If you are running a different variation I can't guarantee it will work, it has only been tested with CM9A0 and CM9A0.5.
For some bizarre reason the only thing that shows up under the "Advanced" Tab is "sampling rate". I've tried both CPU Master and SetCPU, and all I can see is sampling rate. Nothing else shows up.

Okay, finally got it to work. I had been confused regarding the presence of the "brickedkernel" and "cyanogen mod" option in the boot up list. When I went to brickedkernel wi-fi didn't work, but in the CMMod option it did. I finally realized that when I had flashed back to Alpha 0, then back to .5 (to correct a boot loop issue), the Bricked Wi-Fi modules must have been replaced. So I reflashed the Bricked kernel and Wi-Fi worked. Finally went to SetCPU and surprise! Threshold was already at 90% lol. Opera is still jumpy though so I give up. I mean it's "smoother", but not as smooth as on my Charge.
My "Scaling" is set to "ondemand" (with max freq. of 1.56 GHz), Sampling rate set to 50,000, and "Ignore Nice Load" and "Powersave Bias" are both set to 0. I'll try to set Sampling Rate to 10000 and see what happens.
Edit: Nope, no change. Ah well...

Yeah, I have it at 30%/50000/1.5ghz and it is quite smooth, smoother than the stock browser at least.. But not quite as smooth as my Epic.
I'm guessing that once HW Acceleration is working 100% it'll speed things up a bit more.

MyGica ATV1200, Dual Core Android TV Box - how to?

Just got one to play with. and so far feeling ok with it..
But..
Why would you go and make the "Back, Home, Resent apps" buttons that are core to Android not be there?
Anyway, I got a feeling its only going to be an edit of a system file and we should be able to get them back working..
Its running JB 4.1.2
Anyone got any idea's how I can go about doing this?
As I am using team EOS 4 on the TF101, with thier nice way of having seperate EOS ability to edit the size, postion of these buttons in question..
Is is fesiable for me to grab the EOS apk and move it into this Rom an see if it works?
I am also thinking that something like LMK might be able to work too, but would have to be worked via mouse inputs not touch..
Any pointers in the right direction would be great thanks..
Also, I will use this thread ed as a bit of a collection of handy hints for these box's as I am sure they are going to up there in the development circle once they become a bit more available to the masses..

Anyone who want's to use on screen NavBar buttons, he's lucky! (at least compared to ICS).
Now, by adding in
the line
you get the navigation bar (after reboot) and at the same time Android system recognizes this and adds the three dot menu icon whenever needed*!
If you want to disable the hardware keys, edit the file
These are the three hardware buttons
Add a # before any you don't wan't to use any more. I did for 158 and 139 and left my Home button working.
There is a mod** (flash it in recovery) which makes the bar almost half the size. It's better looking and less space is wasted but it does get some time to get used to it and you might need a couple of tries sometimes when trying to hit those buttons.
*This wasn't the case for ICS.

Like the new bigger pointer for the mouse, also it seems to have brought back the remote controls as I had lost those but I still have to manually turn it off.
I swap out the Chinese launcher with Apex launcher - Apex runs nicely and can back up all the settings and screens so are happy with this.
Speeds and Kernel controls :
As pretty much the same as the M1-M3 box's - until we have developers that are hacking these to suit our needs we are locked in the the Geniatech/MyGicia/Privos setting's - Which I hope in the not to distant future we get some of the phone/Tablet kernel guru's turning up and opening these kernels up for us to adjust the speeds in which these can run.
Using CPU Master I am able to get it to run @ 1540 after boot but the settings don't stick and from the readings I have done this is in the way they have setup the Init.d..
What is Init.d?

How I do it -XBMC-addons
As I seem to be installing multi-able versions of XMBC and or firmware upgrades, I have now got a set pattern in which I can reset most of my fav addons back up.. it maybe a little long winded for some but works for me as I find that I lose addons if I don't keep track of them thus I have them saved to a NAS drive. I access them via this method to re-setup.
1: Load the NAS directory up using CIF manager.
2: In XBMC -Go in to "System-Addons-install from zip
3: Go in to "Root file system" then "mnt" then 'cifs' then a 'XBMC' directory where I keep a backup of all my depositories that I use. ( over the last 12 months I have collected a nice bunch of them from around the traps)
Remotes:
Droidmote : I had it going the first time I set the box up in a hotel room using my Asus portable wifi router and had the accelerometer working nicely on a few games. but since I have been back to my home network I have not been able to get it to work - just tested it with that modem again and its not working, so i would say the uniput needs to be loaded up via a script again. RemoteIME - §Q¥ÎAndroid¤â¾÷©Î¥*ªO¹q¸£³£¥i¥H¾Þ±±MyGica Enjoy TV Box
Not a lot of info on this one but it works nicely with my tf101 and this box.. what I like about it.. just works..
Finds the box and away we go.. wish Droidmote was that easy.
Got a thread on XDA on it.. so hopefully it gets picked up a bit more and some more work done it on..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2045734
Also been playing with this one.. but cant seem to get it to work.. got the server side apk but as yet, I am not sure if it will only go with the A8 but I have read somewhere that others have had it going but not sure on what hardware.
I got a feeling that you have to have the bubblepnp going then this may work in with this server and remote.
just haven't had enough time to play.

If someone gets it going post back and let us how..
Import the TB backup file via TB backup.. either via the TB program or "open as" if you are running TB it should give you this option.. as thats how I got it to import in to mine..

Chinese TV apks
As I am here in the middle kingdom- I have to have things to entertain the guests so found this bundle - I am not sure how many will work outside of China but some are actually pretty good once you get the hang of how to use them. (no my Chinese is not that great).. a lot will update so this is normal.. just work out which is "yes" and which is "no"
(Will post the link once its loaded to Dropbox)

ok.. a few problems of it locking up.
Cant pin it down to anyone one thing as yet..
Doesn't seem to get hot so thats not it as I have a USB laptop fan under it, seems to be when I change out to another input on the TV and or I leave it idle for some time, kinda goes in to sleep and not come out it.. got to reboot.
Another thing on the lastest MyGica roms is the lack of Home' 'Back' 'Search' 'Back' 'Recent Task' 'Menu' buttons.
so at the moment I am using this and it does the trick.

New firmware..
http://www.geniatech.com/down-eng/androidtvbox/update_spi_mx_20130326.zip
http://www.geniatech.com/down-eng/androi...130326.zip
Downlload and don't unzip, copy to SD card or USB disk, connect to the box and run upgrade->local update, select the SPI file to update first, after finished, it will restart the box, then, do the same steps to update the firmware, and XBMC is still xbmcapp-armeabi-v7a-debug-20130223.apk.
Above is a new firmware for Geniatech's dual core box, it fixed 4:3/16:9 aspect ratio and android bar problems of XBMC.

Upgraded to this one today.. Working smoothly.
Haven't had time to play with XBMC builds on it but was streaming off PPTV most of the day..
Not sure if it was the box or the network.. Seemed to encounter the ethernet problem after about 2 hours where the stream was caught up.
Switched out to wifi and ran the same stream for a while.. Then switched back to ethernet and no problems.. Maybe a net problem and or that old bug is still hanging round..
Overall zippy as hell but I am also running the Seeder app to keep the Random Entropy up to 4096.
We can clock up to 1512mhz and change out to performance governor but min seems to be locked in at 48mhz which seems a bit low.
But with that being said.. It shows that it actually sits down between 72mhz & 336mhz on low loads.
Navigation buttons are back plus a new screen shot one..
I also noticed in settings there is a new EASYLINK option.. Maybe some like a new remote control app or airplay?
Anyone got info on it?

has anybody used the component out on a mygica atv1200? i swear the blue and green are reversed. i've tried 2 sets of cables. i hooked from mygica to computer and tv. both will not display until i put blue cable in green and green in blue on the mygica box.. and obviously when i do this it messes up the colors. has anyone else noticed this? i tried taking out the hdmi as well and got the same results. i'd love it if someone could confirm i'm either right, or i simply have a bad box. thanks. i've also tried with different firmwares. including the 3/26. i'm now on 1/15.
Did anybody try that DroidMote server. I think I have problem with that uinput. I've downloaded it and made som changes with terminal emulator following instructions, still no moves... Please advice...
make sure it is rooted and goto the system folder and edit build.prop and add a line of code on a new line at the bottom:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
and reboot the device to get those buttons.

Works out of the box for me..
One thing I do is test the network I am on..
i.e test it with my TF-001 to make sure its working, then test it on the ATV1200.
As my other box I had to do some mods on it to get it to work..
but overall works great.. play a few games with it..

Thanks for answer. It works nice on the new firmware!
Another question. I faced to weird shutdowns during normal operation (browsing, video playing). It happens very frequently and I did everything, updated firmware, did several resets - no success. Any suggestions what it might be?
ADD
I found that it was not device issue but my TV set... It works smoothly on my neighbour's TV. If I could only know that they'll be incompatible... TV Firmware update - no success. Buying new TV for my box is ridiculous

Bear' before I reply I need to check my setup again to see what is what..
Just shifted cities here in China so its been a big few weeks..
I have got the box working into the Synology NAS and it is working without me playing with the CIFs setup.
But I have used the Networking program that came with the firmware and set it to auto mount the video and TV folders on the NAS.
I also need to find some time to setup XBMC again due to this new update.
And also test the new internet connection I have got..

I am getting a Green light on the box and it won't respond anymore. This happens when I leave it sit for a while. Any help? Seems to be some kind of sleep or standby, but it won't wake from it unless I unplug it and then plug it back in.
Try a firmware upgrade..dont know what you are on..but only go to 05 - 4.1.2 dont go to 4.2.2 unless you are prepared for troubles..

Are there any custom roms for this box?

[Guide] Best performance you can get without a Custom ROM (FSYNC OFF AND MORE!)

The point of this thread is to put together a list of optimizations that can be done on the stock rom with root access. I figured there would be others like me who can't unlock (or don't want to) but now can root who might be interested and all contributions will be added.
At the end of this the Prime feels much faster. I think most of it can work for the TF300 and TF700 too. Thanks to so many out there who make this possible and I appreciate all feedback in comments.
NOTE: This involves rooting your device and doing dangerousish stuff. I am not responsible if your Prime softbricks or if you have trouble installing updates. If you mess up and it softbricks you might lose all your data on the Prime. My official answer to updates is that every step has backups or checkboxes, so just undo everything after the pre-amble before you update.
If a tweak is done wrong and you can't boot, unbrick via these directions (data will be lost!):
Download latest firmware from Asus site.
Unzip this file once - it contains a zip inside it. Rename this zip to EP201_SDUPDATE.ZIP
Copy the file to the root of a FAT32 formatted MicroSD card
Turn the tablet off via the power button.
Now turn it on holding down the Volume Down button on the tablet
In a minute you will be in the recovery screen. Hit volume up.
Wait for it to get done. It can take a while.
Pre-Amble:
First thing, update to the newest Jellybean Asus has given us and root it using this method (thanks Morlok8k and djrbliss and sorry again Morlok8k).
Install Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper and protect that root:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.projectvoodoo.otarootkeeper
Install Quick boot to get an easy way to reboot:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...medium=appbrain_web&utm_campaign=appbrain_web
Now lets optimize:
1. Get Rid of Bloat (Undo this step before installing updates)
Use Titanium or the built in disable function under settings to freeze some of the apps. This gets back a lot of your RAM and cuts down on the boot time. Here is what I have disabled/frozen (don't disable something you use), but note some can only be disabled with Titanium:
@vibe fun center
App Backup
App Locker
Asus Email (I don't use it)
Asus FAcebook Poster
Asus MyZine
Asus Sync
Asus Weather
com.asus.pcsynclauncher
com.asus.quicksearch
com.asus.youtube search
Email
Exchange Services

2. Install an Ad blocker.
My choice is Adaway:
https://code.google.com/p/ad-away/
This will speed up browsing.
3. Disable FSYNC
(HUGE PERFORMANCE BOOST BUT SOFTBRICK RISK IF YOU DO IT WRONG)
First of all, before we get started know that disabling FSYNC has some risks. But its the single biggest tweak you can do. Will let you update or install apps and still do something else.
Secondly, please go here and thank eminent1410 for inadvertently fixing our Primes. He did it for his OPTIMUS Z ROM but we benefit!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2203345
Steps to install:
Download the zip file named FSYNCFIX.zip attached to this post and extract the files in that zip to your Prime.
Open Root Explorer and go to /system/lib folder. Rename libsqlite.so and libsqlite_jni.so to libsqlite.so.bak and libsqlite_jni.so.bak respectively.
Copy the libsqlite.so and libsqlite_jni.so files that came from the attached zip (using root explorer for example) to the /system/lib folder (Mount that folder as RW if necessary).
Set permissions on the two files to rw-r--r-- (picture of what it looks like attached to post)
Reboot.
If something went wrong your prime will not boot but will be stuck at the booting screen. At that point use the directions at the top of the post.

4. Fix Entropy
This is a big deal to fix lagginess. Confirmed by richardmlea to improve the browser. Also helps with apps that have lists in my experience.
You can get Seeder from the Play Store and support the developer (or search and find the thread on XDA):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lcis.seeder&hl=en
Run the app, turn on everything and tell it to start at boot.
5. Replace build.prop (Undo this step before installing updates)
(softbrick risk and might cause problems with upgrading if not undone)
Credit to MR.WOOKIE for the base I used to make the build.prop. It improves all sorts of stuff in little ways- network improvements, UI improvements, JPEG viewing improvements.
To install:
Download the attached correct (US or WW depending on what Prime you have) build.prop.zip files from this post and extract it to your Transformer.
NOTE: Currently the attached build.props are only for the TF201. Will brick other Transformers.
Using Root Explorer or something, go to your /system folder and find build.prop and rename it to build.prop.bak
Then copy the build.prop file from the zip to the /system folder and change its permissions to rw-r--r-- (picture of what it looks like attached to post).
Reboot
6. Install the Pimp My Rom app (Undo this step before installing updates)
NOTE: This step must be done AFTER step 5 if you are going to do step 5. If you don't do step 5 the using Root Explorer or something, go to your /system folder and find build.prop and rename it to build.prop.bak before using Pimp My Rom.
Get it here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androguide.pimp.my.rom
I did a lot with this app, give it Five Stars!
Under Tools:
First I activated "Universal Init.d Support". Then confirm it works
Entropy generator is much like Seeder, but not as good.
Under Tweaks:
Under "Network and Internet" I enabled "Wifi Connect Speed Tweak" and "Faster Media Streaming" at the top part. Under Init.d ans Sysctl Tweaks I enabled "avoid Time-Wait," "Block Redirects," Block Source-Routing," and "IPv4 Tweaks." Now the play store doesn't act up any more saying it can't load.
Under "Android Features" I enabled "Hardware acceleration," Force CPU rendering,"
Under "Miscellaneous Tweaks" I enabled "Optimize sqlite Databases," "Ext4 File-Systems tweaks," Internal SD-Card I/O Tweaks," External SD-Card I/O Tweaks," and "Zipalign all APKS at each boot." These changes make a huge difference in the performance of almost everything.
7. OOM and SD cache
This will help responsiveness and RAM management. As per nhshah7
Download Kernel tuner:
Go to OOM and set it to 1000 aggressive.
Go to Misc and set the SD cache to 4096
8. Wipe the Dalvik Cache
Thanks to pooblej for this one.
Download this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.j.y.daddy.customizer
Open the app.
Go to "SET"
Select the "Wipe Dalvik-Cache" option.
It will then reboot with a pretty long boot time.
9. Trim
Do this last.
Use the lagfix program to TRIM your Prime:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grilledmonkey.lagfix&hl=en
Just open it and hit Run.
Extra Optional Stuff to do
10. Install Browser2RAM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34885711&postcount=58
Let it run as root. Can work with stock browser or Chrome. Thanks qskile for pointing it out and t3hSteve for the apk.
Personally I think this eats a lot of RAM and is not needed when you do all the other tweaks, but it is FAST! Hard to resist probably.
11. Install and use PieControls
These are all the rage now. Getting this feature is as easy as installing this apk to use the LMT Launcher:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330150
Here is a good guide that goes over setting up this feature with pictures:
http://highonandroid.com/android-ap...rooted-android-smartphonetablet-lmt-launcher/
Things left to do:
1. Data2SDish hack
2. Volume boost that works with Jellybean (Don't try anything Beats it won't work)
3. V6 SuperCharger - Can cause more problems than solutions unless done right and I need to research more. Kernel tuner goes a long way.
Thank you in advance for any and all responses or thanks.
I also wanted to know about the build tweaks now possible if we can root stock ...
I will let you know what I discover. So far the biggest boosts are browser2ram and freezing all the Asus bloat. It already feels like a different tablet now.
Set performance mode to performance. Enables it to clock at 1.4 ghz (wish we could go higher with stock kernel!)
download Kernel tuner, go to OOM, presets and set it to 1000 aggressive. Also in kernel tuner, set SD cache to 4096.
I didn't find seeder to actually help. Also download Rebooter from the play store and "Hot boot" if you slow down. It essentially kills all non-system apps.
Haven't tried the other apps you linked to the play store. My prime FLIES now
Edit: also have not tried build prop tweaks. Don't see a need just yet, might affect future OTA upgrading as well.
EDIT: Talking about performance, for browsers, I use dolphin with dolphin's jet pack. Doesn't have flash, but sunspider shows this to consistently be the fastest between any other browser on the market. Stock and Chrome come in slightly behind (in that order).
Maybe it is just the euphoria of getting root but seeder works great for me. first thing i installed after rooting. The stockbrowser and xda homepage (showing all devices) would crash the browser every time (stop responding, and require restarting) with seeder it is fine. I even uninstalled seeder to test if imagined the effect but didn't. For me seeder makes the stock browser fully usable. I dont think the browser has stopped responding since i installed seeder.
I will have a go at some of the other tweeks now.
poofyhairguy, Good idea to compile a list of tweeks, maybe you can keep the OP tidy and list and tweeks that other posters suggest in the first post.
One from me that you have already mentioned, to increase the volume get Volume+ from the play store. There is a free version and a paid version that claims to increaseit more. Maybe someone can suggest something better for the same job and completly free.
Also there was/is an app or tweek to improve the touchscreen persission and sensativity. Anyone know what thats called?
More idea's....?
Afternoon all, I have done most of the tweeks and i am seeing excelent gains in smoothness and responsiveness.
Quick question, i have disabled loads of the bloat apps using settings/apps/all selecting the app and selecting disable, but is there any advantage using titanium backup to freeze or remove the bloat app's?

Don't remover, just freeze it. If you need to OTA, it checks to make sure all the Asus apps are still there.
Also interesting tidbit on seeder. I'll try it again.
As far as changing governors, I could never get it to stick on anything other than interactive...?

Looking into it volume plus no longer works in jellybean. So something else is needed.
I have updated OP with new findings.
Just PMed a mod to move this to General. I'll try Pimp My Rom when I get some time this week and report back if it works or not!

I plan to. I am going to keep working on it until we get as much as we can get out of it. Plus I have crosslinked this guide on the TF300T and TF700 forums.
OP has been updated with my recent attempts.
Nice tweaks without root.
Maybe some things will work with my s3 because my Prime is rooted from the first second
Kind of slow at work tonight so I know what I'll be doing. :good:. Any benchmark numbers before and after doing all this?
I used to use Volume + but is seemed to quit working on JB. I am now using Music Volume EQ. It may not boost your volume as much as Volume + but it works well and I like the EQ, virtualizer and Bass boost functions. I just wish they would optimize their interface for tablets, it's kind of small for a 10 inch screen.
Music Volume EQ
One thing I've noticed with Music Volume EQ is sometime you have to open the app (or press the widget) for it to turn on. I haven't tested it if this is just after a reboot or it happens randomly.
EDIT - At this point all I can is WOW. This stuff really works. Pimp My Rom is the bomb. I've done everything in the list but install Seeder. With Pimp I don't think it's necessary but I may try it later. Also I can't get the CPU manager to boot into Performance mode with Pimp. Not really a big deal since ever since I've had my Prime and rebooted the first thing I do is to switch to Performance mode. It's like second nature to me now. I'll keep messing with it, it's probably something I'm doing.
Thanks for this very good Thread!!!
Thanks for this guide. At least I got root again easily. I did all the tweaks, lets see is the device any better.

This post basically sums up the risk:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27122865&postcount=42
I think it is safe enough given that. The ROMing community here has bought into it 100% and so if it was a big deal it wouldn't be used. I never would make my life depend on my Prime.
And I almost can't explain how much faster it is with FSYNC off. Like everything else in the guide put together doesn't do as much. It is amazing.

Q&A for [ROM] Sero 7 Pro (US) - AOSP 4.4.4_r2 DoPa v2.51
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [ROM] Sero 7 Pro (US) - AOSP 4.4.4_r2 DoPa v2.51. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Upgrade to V2.6
I "upgraded" to v2.6 beta1 from v2.51. With V2.51 with overclocking and Nexus7 spoof. After "upgrade" I had to reload GAPPS to get Playstore to work. As an aside, I also reinstalled the Nexus7 spoof. I also use SetCPU to manage overclocking. I am not sure that I have gained anything over v2.51 but am quite pleased with the performance.
Thanks dolorespark.

You got a unified kernel (no more separate installation) that uses less power than the previous overclocked version. At speeds up to 1.3ghz, it's the same as the previous standard kernel. The GPU's default speed has been upped to 448mhz from 416mhz at little cost; however, if you overclock it to 520mhz, it will use more power than previously. Also, if you use exFAT-formatted SD cards, you should find their performance is significantly improved.
BTW... you really shouldn't use the Nexus spoof from a previous version - other info in the file (build.prop) such as the version number may be incorrect.
Wiimote older and newer (motionplus) pairing correctly
Hello,
With the latest beta version of the rom I was able to successfully pair the older and the newer (motionplus) wiimote with the sero 7 pro. Had to use the Wii classic corded controller connected to the wiimote for game use. Was able to play vice city with the classic controller without having to change any of the button mappings.
Hope this helps.
Sero 7 Pro 5.0
It appears Android 5.0 has made its way to AOSP branches. Any word on it being worked on for this device?

SD Card
I have a question. Im Using a Hisense Sero 7 Pro and have Rooted it with sero7pro-philz6.58.0-dopa-v2.6, Installed sero7pro-aosp444-dopa-v2.6 ROM and pa_gapps-modular-micro-4.4.4-20141110-signed. But just like with the stock ROM I cannot move apps to the SDcard I installed in it, I have tried 3 different cards and all the same, since I am new to Android can someone help me figure this out?
Just wanted to say thanks!
We often take you guys for granted, and wanted to take a moment to say thanks so much for all your time and hard work on such a solid rom..best I have tried for the Sero7 Pro..everything works and no crashes!
..So Thanks.
Active speakers
Hello, I noticed something peculiar about my sero 7 pro and was wondering if anyone else has this problem.
When I hit the power button to turn ON the lockscreen (from sleep) and then tap it again to sleep, I hear a low continuous hum or hissing sound from the speakers (barely audible). It's not that big a deal since I can fully unlock to home screen and then put it to sleep (which stops active speakers).
I only bring this up because it's a noticeable drain on my battery when my tablet is on sleep. I'm using current dopa 2.6/philz touch. If it's just me, I'll probably backup and re-flash again sometime later.
not working
I flashed this rom but my gmail crashed. I did it again and again but it is still crashing.
Stock AOSP Rom
@dolorespark
You think you can release a version of this ROM (5.0 Lollipop) that is completely AOSP? I don't like having third party software such as SU, Xposed, GravityBox, etc pre-installed. Let alone not having selinux in enforcing mode. It would be nice to see another build for it that retains a completely original AOSP ROM (other than the tweaks in order to get it running on the Sero 7 Pro).
Buggy Overclocking
@dolorespark
It would seem in Lollipop Beta 1 that the overclocking module is easily bugged. After switching the clock frequencies a few times the settings bugs and ends up frozen to stock clocks.
Just a few things I've found on the newest beta 5.0
Hey dolorespark,
I've been using the AOSP 4.4.4 on my Sero 7 pro for some time now and loved it. Currently I'm waiting for my Moto G 2013 to get the official Android Lollipop from Motorola, but I saw that the love has already come to the Sero 7 thanks to you. Grats on that. I installed the newest beta on my Sero 7 Pro last night (AOSP 5.0.0_r7) and I have only noticed a few things of mention that you might not be aware of:
The wifi status page (link speed and what have you) is corrupted in portrait, but fine in landscape.
Periodically, the lock/power button hard resets the tablet instead of locking the screen.
The last thing I've noticed so far is that the notification bar will overtake the soft buttons at the bottom of the screen while in certain apps, one example being Google Play. If you swipe down the notification drawer, the bar at the top will clone itself over the buttons at the bottom while the drawer is open, and will disappear once the drawer is closed. Saving a screenshot of this occuring was impossible as the screenshot removed the bar and restored it after it had been saved.
The attachments are of the statusbar issue and the wifi page curruption. Nothing game breaking just a few things i've noticed playing around with this build.

Problems installing fastboot in Post #1 of main thread
I am trying to follow the instructions in the #1 post of this thread to install 4.4.2. on a stock Sero 7 Pro and cannot get this to work to install the philz.img file:
plug the USB cable from your PC into the tablet, then install the driver (open Device Manager, right click on "Other Devices->Fastboot", then select "Update Driver Software")
Click to collapse
When I open Device Manager in Win 7 Home Premium there is nothing like "Other Devices->Fastboot" listed. I tried Add Device from the Control Panel and it found nothing.
I already ran >step0-DoItAll.bat< from this thread and it completed everything sucessfully.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
Steve Ahola
P.S. I have been running DOPA 2.20 on a different Sero 7 for several months now and it has been great! BTW I have tried several different CPU tuners and I think that the CPU tuner in 3C Toolbox (formerly Android Toolbox) seems to work the best as it controls all 4 processors independently. I use the premium version but the free version also has this module.
Is your Sero booted to fastboot mode?

After reading this, I tried changing speeds many, many times and never had any problems.
I don't know if this applies here, but in general, don't judge the ROM's performance based on your first bootup after installation. It has to do a tremendous amount of work to get set up, and not all of the loose ends get tied up until it has had a chance to shut down and restart. Do some minor config stuff on that first boot, then reboot before putting it through its paces.

I noticed that and thought it odd but it didn't really register with me as a bug. If it is, I'll have to leave it to Google to fix. Chances are that it will be many months before Google has all these little bits and pieces taken care of - and maybe as much as a year before Lollipop comes across as really solid and reliable.

If you already installed the drivers for ADB, then there's nothing else to be done - Fastboot uses the same driver. As someone else asked, are you in Fastboot mode? Disconnect any USB cable, hold down Volume-Up and Power, and wait for the word "Fastboot" to appear. Nothing further will appear on the screen - it's all done from the PC.

I'll have to look at this util to see what it offers, but I really doubt it can control each core independently. All four use the same clock, so if one is running at, say, 1.3ghz, all of the other cores that are online have to run at the same speed.
Thanks for your quick reply! I finally got ADB working by running your BAT file a second time. I still couldn't get Philz installed through ADB so I ended up installing CWM 6.0.4.5 from a different site and then followed your instructions to replace that with Philz. (CWM 6.0.4.5 aborted 1/2 way through install of your ROM which kinda freaked me out but Philz made everything good.
Many thanks not just for your excellent ROMs but also for the great instructions that you post here on XDA. I really like ROMs with the fewest bells and whistles which give the apps you are running more horsepower. BTW TKruzze's minimal GAapps files make your ROMs even more sleek. Its like my Sero tablet died and went to heaven!
Steve
P.S. As for 3C Toolbox (formerly Android Tuner) while all CPUs must be set to the same frequency as you said the app can put them offline independently as needed. I will post links to screenshots showing that. I've tried CPU Tuner, Set CPU, Juice Defender and ROM Toolbox Pro on 10 different Android tablets and I've gotten the best battery life when on or on standby with Android Tuner. (I leave some of them on just to test battery draw in standby mode and I have gotten over 18 days on one of them which would go dead after a day or two before I rooted it.)
The free version has ads that pop up when you are finished with the other modules but since the CPU tuner runs in the background there is no difference between the free and paid versions. But I really like their file explorer which does work better in the paid version.
