Faux kernel in stock rom. - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

can i use the faux kernel with the stock rom with the latest OTA? Which advantages i gain? Thanks

If by stock ROM you mean AT&T 4.5.9.1, then yes you can use his kernel. The main noticeable advantages are the ability to overclock and undervolt. Other than that, there are some tweaks to the code that also contribute to improving performance.
I would only flash this if you really want to overclock your phone though. If not, stick with stock -- the phone is fast enough as it is.

flashin custom rom with stock kernel

does anyone here uses a custom rom with a stock kernel? will it still be good? i really do want to flash but i don't want things to get complicated. i just want to speed up the phone.
and with stock kernel everything is simple right? just flash the rom and use it, no other things needed.
I am one of the unlucky people that have a vibrant that cant handle an OC/UV kernel. So yes, every time I flash a custom rom, I flash a stock kernel. Generally speaking most roms I use ( bionix and master ) barely increase the benchmark scores of stock tw... though they do feel snappier because these rom chefs spend alot of time in polishing the user interface... if you want to make your device faster, try rooting it and installing a lag fix. If you have any other questions be sure to click the red text in my Sig.
You do not need a lag fix... too many issues stem from this.

i already flashed a fusion 1.1 stock kernel. i'm satisfied already.
Awesome, just making sure. I didn't agree with the lf suggestion.
If you've flashed Bionix Fusion 1.1 with JACS OC/UV ROM from stock, do you need to flash another kernel or does the ROM include the JACs kernel? Without SetCPU do you then run stock benchmarks?
3rd Q, are there issues flashing back to a custom ROM but with the standard kernel?

to your 3rd question, if you have a custom rom with a stock kernel you can flash back to stock rom without problems using odin.
Thanks. Plus found discussion of kernels under Vibrant Q&A under "Bionix fusion 1.1".

[Q] Noob Question: Custom to stock rom possible?

Is it possible to go back to the stock samsung rom after I have used a custom rom?
I just wanted to know before I do my first custom rom.. yea imma happy noob
btw, im looking into teamwiskey v3 rom but you know honestly id really like all this in 1 rom if possible:
1)gingerbread
2)overclock capability(kernal?)
3)wifi tether (kernal?)
Thanks guys for helping.. really appreciate it

You can odin back to stock!
In one word. YES. Quite easy too.
Overclocking currently is not ideal as the kernels use the Samsung Galaxy S International version code and that kills our battery. As soon as the Vibrant source code is released, we can see overclock kernels which don't kill the battery. For now though, don't use any OC Froyo Kernel. Use vodoo + stock kernel.

NeroV3 comes with JL5 kernel w/voodoo 5.0.4, which is disabled by default.
The SuperIO kernel is a kernel developed by eugene that fixes I/O lag on the RFS system, supposedly removing the need for other lagfixes.
Go to my thread, read the short writeup. Then watch my video tutorial on going back to stock from a custom rom via Odin. It is quite a simple process actually. If all you want to do is go back to stock, you can stop watching after that is complete. OR I showcase how to flash nero v3 w/voodoo Cya!

[Q] question about kernel

hello,
I'm using the official lg rom v2.2.1 that came with the phone. I wanted to update to cm7 but I read about the problem with the BT wich I must have. another thing is that I'm using hebrew and I need it to stay that way.
The thing is that the touch screen is very bad and lags a lot.
If I will upgrade only the kernel what will be the affect on the phone and how do I know what is the best kernel for my version ?
In general I want to fix the touchscreen bug and to OC the phone.
thanks for the help.
If you just want to overcome the touch screen bug then I would suggest using Der_Caveman's Kernel, it is quite old but is usable and removes the touch bug and enables OC.
The kernel wouldn't change any outward appearance of the phone, except maybe increase the quadrant score a bit. If you really want a good performance boost as well then try franco's kernel. Since you are using the stock rom it is recommended to take a nand backup before flashing these kernels. And a kernel doesn't change the system language AFAIK.
Thanks for quick reply. will these two kernels good for froyo 2.2.1 and are there known bugs that I should be aware of before updating ?
As far as read the franco's v18.1 is for 2.3.3...
I have never used Der_Caveman's kernel, but it is bug-free AFAICT. And in the link that I have posted above, franco kernel is available for both froyo and GB. Download the version that says "franco.Kernel v8.1 CFS", it is for froyo.
And as I said earlier, since you are on stock rom it is advisable to take a nand before flashing a custom kernel.
i used dookmatt's kernel which was really good for me(flashed it on stock 2.2.2)...i had no touch lag, no bugs. that would be my recomandation
also dont forget nand backup is holy!

Can I OC with this one ?
OK, I flashed Der_Caveman's Kernel and so far it looks good. the touchscreen is better and I OC to to 729 using setcpu though I cant tell the difference in terms of the speed.
how can I tell if its really 729 and not 600 ?
thanks.
yes my O1 ran at 787 mhz and it was darn stable(at 800+ i had frequent freezes and reboots when launching apps). i also had a friend of mine install this kernel and he's happy with the "new" phone i made
quick system info on market...shows cpu speed
You may look at info tab on SetCPU, it says alot about your device, CPU (frequencies and features), battery and so on.
And you can have SetCPU widget on homescreen as well, which shows current freq, min and max frequencies of the governor you're using

[Q] Is there a kernel that works on the stock ROM or another stock based ROM?

I'm using a stock based ROM (I think), it's the simplicity one, my question is, is there a kernel I can flash so I can overclock or underclock the CPU? Also, will I have any bugs if I change the kernel?
Thanks in advance.
No kernel for our device can overclock till now, but all of them can however underclock.
Except the CM specific kernels, all kernels in our section will work on simplicity or any other stock based ROM.
For bugs, you'll have to check the OP of the kernel you want to install. There are hardly any bugs btw.

Kernels differences

Hey there.
I'm gonna root my z5c and i've seen that i must change kernel as well, so that's my question:
which are pros and cons of choosing custom kernel, such as AndroPlus, instead of modified stock kernel?
and...
...what will i do to get further firmware update? will i get them OTA or will i have to flash the new one?
Thank you so much and sorry for my bad english.
@dario2510
I have Z5p and i am using STOCK modified kernel, re created by tool mentioned here. (tool v5.0)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/development/root-automatic-repack-stock-kernel-dm-t3301605
my mobile working like charm
Pros of Modified kernel
1. root access
2. removal of bloatware
3. removal of useless stock xperia apps
4. better ram management
since any modified kernel from android 6.x , has SONY-RIC OFF and DM varity is also OFF then
cons are.
1. mobile on risk of virus
2. privacy risks , hacker attacks
basic precaution
1. keep ADB debugging OFF
2. unknown resources for installing apk keep it OFF also
3. install zonealarm or any other good antivirus etc
Thank you so much... I would prefer the stock one, but with androplus i would be able to underclock cpu, with less heat and more battery life!

Modified stock just disabled RIC and DM to let you gain full root permission and the reset of the codes rename unchanged so it is a pretty stock kernel, the most stable one.
AndroPlus is also based on stock kernel(u can only flash it with stock rom, cm or aosp not work) but heavily modded. It may included some new features or better optimized for performance and battery but maybe bring in some bugs. Generally, AndroPlus is safe to use and almost the only reliable custom stock kernel now for Sony.
AndroPlus default lower cpu clock but you can do it with stock kernel too with third party tuner like kernel adiutor.
