Blockbuster App (Tampered Device?) - HTC EVO 3D

I just went on the Blockbuster app for the First time for the hell of it and as soon as I opened it up it said...

My question is How the hell did it know that, and why does it care?

That's a surprise... what the hell do they care for if I'm Rooted? Lol...

The new market won't let you watch movies while rooted either

That's Retarded, especially when the Market offers Rooted apps for people to use and Download!
Google BETTER embrace the fact that a LOT of people choose Android over the other options "Strictly" Because of Root!

There are only so many ways to determine root access on an android device from instead of a Android java applicatoin.
If you're determined to use the blockbuster app while rooted, I'm sure there are ways to bypass the detection. Or worse case, temporarly remove/rename your su binary. Most of the applications look for the su binary itself. Change the name of the binary, or its location and it might bypass their root detection method.
ften disabled the root detection method on the Google Videos .apk file and posted up all the details regarding which parts of the smali code he modified. Google Videos with Root Check Disabled

It is hard to determine who "they" is/are that cares enough to push for the root detection code to be added ..
My guess would be the large Hollywood studios care more than Google about the Hollywood movie copyrights and don't want their material being freely distributed w/o their permission.
I'm guessing based on how open Google is with other people's information, i.e. google books, etc.
Good to know the blockbuster app is checking for root. Hope some of that information helps!

Yeah man, Your Info Definitely Helps... Thanx for the link too!

[Q] how to fool an application

is it possible to make an application think it is installed from market?
does market app (now play store) keep record of applications installed from market but not directly from an apk or other sources? can that list be manipulated?
No it checks your google account to see if you made the purchase before. All that is done securely. The market will see it as purchased sometimes, but when trying to download google recognizes that you havent really purchased and gives an error. I sort of kno why you asked and you can google how to get what you want. No talk of that here though !

i asked it here to make sure nothing illegal is happening
because xplore (it's free!) suggests you to download it from market if you install the apk
but what about this: you install an app from market, you wipe everything, you install the backup of your (personal!) apk, now if it checks your google account, there is a record of purchase, right?, but xplore realizes it's not from market, i think the way it's doing this is very cool, i want to know how to do it myself
and by the way if you google ( no matter how hard) there is no cracked version of xplore!
i'm gonna think that developers of xplore are some kind of very.... genius?!?!!
and we all know there are a lot of articles about 'how to secure your app against reverse engineering and craking' but if i was in a hurry, which one did you suggest me to read?

Titanium Backup (Menu->Market Tools->Market Doctor may help.
Also, if you install an app from some 3rd party source (but don't link it to the market), you will still see it as "purchased" or "installed" if you search for it (and find it).

Is antivirus nescecary?

Is anti virus necessary, especially for downloading apk's from outside the google store? Which one's are good? I've heard of just using virustotal.com when you download an apk from your computer, but I'm not sure if totalvirus is designed to scan the contents of apk files.

No such thing as a virus for android or its at least uncommon
(3 years no Anti-Virus)
You can get adware and spyware but thats suprizingly as common as it is on IOS
Edit- I dont think there would be any need as i havent had any problems exept adware apps but i just blocked those intrusive ads or uninstalled the app
(typicaly those apps were total crap)
Absolutely not.
There is no need of an Anti-Virus if you don't use Cracked APK's and other "illegal stuff"
If you are non-rooted and download only from googles playstore you are Safe!

Does being rooted put the device in danger virus-wise?

As long as you dont give non-marketplace apps root permission not really

That's pretty funny considering half of the apps on this site aren't on the marketplace and require root permission. (Though here's a bit different as you know the user who posted the download link and their reputation)

My phone is not rooted. I have S6 Edge running on 5.1.1
I have checked running apps on smart manager and end them but again many apps automatically open after sometime.
Is there no App to detect malware?
Remove every shady app you downloaded from Store and be careful next time you install stuff on your phone.
Usually games tend to show ads like that everywhere.
Source: dozens of Android phones that had those apps whose parents gave their kids to install games on.

There is...
Install All-In-One Toolbox from play store then from within the app (or again from play store) install the Ad Detect plugin. It will scan every app on your device and report their capacity to display ads, by what means, and from what source. From this info, it's easy to decide what apps to delete. :good:

Google Play Hacking help

Hello. Does anybody know where on the device in root explorer I can find where the play store keeps my account info. Any help is appreciated!
That's not a simple question as it's only partially on the device and partially online. I'm curious what you are even trying to do since most paid apps can be downloaded as an apk anyway.

Oh, I'm actually not sure lol. But I assume it's encrypted or extremely well hidden and buried, just in case user gets a virus or malware it's gotta be unreachable by normal standards. Otherwise Google would not be very secure. Your balance would be on the Google server I'm sure.

Is there a way to change android APK for use with Android TV?

I really want the btwifi app to work on android TV, is there anyway I could get this to install by maybe changing the manifest or something?, Or maybe an option in app cloner I'm already unaware of?
The original APK does not install on android TV at all

This app cannot be installed due to a missing lib (INSTALL_FAILED_MISSING_SHARED_LIBRARY). I guess the app needs the Google Maps API for geo detection. If I'm right it's not enough to just install Google Maps, but you need additional files, which you can only install with root rights (look here).
Of course, they can also be completely different libs

Definitely no
Damn, I usually always root but as the shield is my tv I have one app that can't be hid with magisk that is a crucial app that I need for catchup TV (All4). I guess there's my choice lol. I might message the magisk dev and see if he can see why this one app still detects root as I know hes updating quite regularly atm

Good luck
I haven't tried it yet, but with the app "app cloner" you can make copies of installed apps from your phone and change settings of them. It offers the option to inject android shield compatibility and setup your own banner graphic for it. The resulting clone might be unstable though
