Is there a way to change android APK for use with Android TV? - Shield Android TV Themes and Apps

I really want the btwifi app to work on android TV, is there anyway I could get this to install by maybe changing the manifest or something?, Or maybe an option in app cloner I'm already unaware of?
The original APK does not install on android TV at all

This app cannot be installed due to a missing lib (INSTALL_FAILED_MISSING_SHARED_LIBRARY). I guess the app needs the Google Maps API for geo detection. If I'm right it's not enough to just install Google Maps, but you need additional files, which you can only install with root rights (look here).
Of course, they can also be completely different libs

Can I install without root using adb at all?

Definitely no

Damn, I usually always root but as the shield is my tv I have one app that can't be hid with magisk that is a crucial app that I need for catchup TV (All4). I guess there's my choice lol. I might message the magisk dev and see if he can see why this one app still detects root as I know hes updating quite regularly atm

Good luck

I haven't tried it yet, but with the app "app cloner" you can make copies of installed apps from your phone and change settings of them. It offers the option to inject android shield compatibility and setup your own banner graphic for it. The resulting clone might be unstable though

Blockbuster App (Tampered Device?)

I just went on the Blockbuster app for the First time for the hell of it and as soon as I opened it up it said...

My question is How the hell did it know that, and why does it care?

That's Retarded, especially when the Market offers Rooted apps for people to use and Download!
Google BETTER embrace the fact that a LOT of people choose Android over the other options "Strictly" Because of Root!

There are only so many ways to determine root access on an android device from instead of a Android java applicatoin.
If you're determined to use the blockbuster app while rooted, I'm sure there are ways to bypass the detection. Or worse case, temporarly remove/rename your su binary. Most of the applications look for the su binary itself. Change the name of the binary, or its location and it might bypass their root detection method.
ften disabled the root detection method on the Google Videos .apk file and posted up all the details regarding which parts of the smali code he modified. Google Videos with Root Check Disabled

It is hard to determine who "they" is/are that cares enough to push for the root detection code to be added ..
My guess would be the large Hollywood studios care more than Google about the Hollywood movie copyrights and don't want their material being freely distributed w/o their permission.
I'm guessing based on how open Google is with other people's information, i.e. google books, etc.
Good to know the blockbuster app is checking for root. Hope some of that information helps!
Yeah man, Your Info Definitely Helps... Thanx for the link too!

Taking an OpenSource App away from Google Play updates

Hello
I know that after the change from Google Market to Google Play it is not anymore possible to detach an App from Google Play, because the important information is saved on the Google Servers and not on the phone anymore.
But when I have an OpenSource-App, like MyTracks, couldn't it easily be possible to detach it from Google Play?
What do I need to do?
I have to compile it, I guess, but where do I have to change things, that GP doesn't try to update it anymore and doesn't tell me that this App is installed already?
Do I have to change the name of the app?
What would be the easiest way?
For example, I use Camera360 in an older version 2.7 because the v3.x is cheesy and I got from the developer this v2.7 which is NOT attached to GP. The developer must have changed a little thing, but I don't know what it was.
Kind remarks,
frank

Try changing the name of the apk in the data folder. Example, change the apk name from com.example to com.example2 using a root file browser.

Not working
I think I would need to change the package name of the app (e.g. com.google.android.maps.mytracks) . Not just the apk-name.
But how could I do this?
OK, no developer here in this forum, so I asked it here, with a bit more hope on a solution:

I know it now, it's easy.
Need to sign the app with another key. Can be any other key, Google Play won't know the app after as the same and won't give updates.
The app ZipSigner can do this, has even own keys to sign.
I did it several times, e.g. with Skitch

Wrong!
This old version is a different version and it is on the market but won't be updated anymore.
By the way, I don't use Camera 360 anymore. Too buggy and no support or bugfix

Downloading APKs

I'm frustrated with Google Market because a decent handful of apps that I want to download show incompatible with my device. But I can't seem to find anywhere to download the apks now either to side load them. I used to use an apk downloader extension with Chrome but that no longer works and I can't get sites like Appbrain, Getjar etc to download the file either. I'm looking for apps like ticketmaster, cvs, target etc which are all free apps.
Any way around the Market issue or a good site without warez to get these apps?
Amazon?

I have been playing with a Kindle Fire and have(had) the same issue. I have used 1Mobile Market for most of the apps I previously got from the Play Store (Market). To install the Mobile market app, use the browser and go to their site (1mobile.com/). From their you can download their app with needed installer. After that, a huge variety of apps are available.

Indeed, but I tried one which checks for root access after I side loaded it. It wants unrooted devices only. Still hoping for a temp unroot option.
you dudes can use modified play store to access all the apps (not paid app for free indeed)

Don't forget that if you have the apps on another device, you can use a backup app like astro file manager to make an apk of any app.

Gapps, and flash
Flash player works when you install from a download. You can get the most current version by googling flash player versions. adobe has all Android versions on their website. Here's the website to download the most current Version of Adobe Flashplayer I also provided a download below.
K just unzip the app file and install the apk with es file manager that works I have confirmed that flash works on my daughters tablet. Adobe Flash Player works just fine when installed normally.

Voodoo programs are usually reliant on Voodoo compatible customized kernels, not stock non altered kernels.
For download apk's from PlayStore I use Real APK Leecher.
And how Real APK Leecher OP proposed i created new gmail account only for this necessity. Device ID i just got at my SGS II. All works like charm. Later i can install it to my phone or rooted Nook HD+ with Android Commander (very handy and great tool).
Amazon app store works ironically just fine.

Not true at all. Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper works on almost every single device running Android.
I should be getting my Nook HD this Wednesday so expect some themes to come sometime next weekend.

youtube kids keeps getting removed

I have the stock android v8.0 installed and because yt kids is not available in my country I install it manually through an apk. But after being installed for a few minutes the app is removed
I tried turing off play protect and searching the options but I can't find what's removing the app.
Is there a way to stop this from happening in the stock software?

Is it a legit app? If you have some sort of antivirus/security it may get removed if it contains anything untoward.

Yes it's a legitimate app (youtube kids) by Google but its not available in my country. I have installed it on my other devices without a problem.
I've tried disabling play protect and the built-in antivirus is disabled.

I would say apk mirror would be fine, however you can download direct from Google play:

I tried it, it gave me a very old version. I installed it and the same thing happened.
I took a look at apkmirror. It looks like they have a number of variants depending on the CPU. Which version are you trying to install? This is the CPU based off the specs I found online https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon/processors/820 but I don't know how to translate that into which variant you need.

It looks like it has to do with android 8, I tried it on a galaxy j7 prime 2 running oreo and a huawei p20 pro also running oreo, after locking the device for a few minutes it gets removed.
I created a new account using a vpn and set my location to the usa, I was able to install the app, but when i stopped the vpn the app was removed after a few minutes. when I go to the play store I find that the app is disabled and I can re-enable it from there, but it will automatically get disabled again after a while.
I'm going to try to downgrade the tablet to android 7 and try this again.
It seems that its happening to other people too

Disney + apk crashing

I was wondering if anyone can help me. I have mi pad 4 until yesterday my Disney plus app worked but now the Disney icon loads up then the app closes. I installed the app through apkpure as Disney plus is not on the Google play store. I have uninstalled the app and installed a historical version but that didn't work neither. Any help would be appreciated as I have toddler who uses the app quite heavily

Are you rooted? Try hiding magisk from the app. It may be that it's detecting root, but that's just a guess
I don't believe it is rooted. I just ran the APK. How can I check? Excuse my ignorance I am not quite that savvy
My Mi Pad 4 was showing incompatible version this morning. I sideloaded 1.61 (nodpi) from apkmirror and it was able to log back in again and stream. My initial install (split apk) was working for a long time. I suspect they depreciated support for older versions that forced the upgrade.

No need to excuse, no worries :good: You would know if you're rooted or not as it's a procedure you have to do yourself. So I'm pretty sure you'd recall doing it. If you bought the device second hand and haven't updated at all, there is a chance the previous owner could have rooted it. If you did wanna check, go to the playstore and search for root checker. Install and run it it'll tell you. Also if you're rooted, you'll most likely have magisk manager installed in your apps. See if that's there, but I doubt it.
See the other guys post above mine for a possible solution. Go to apk mirror website and search for the app version he suggested.
