Stick with photon over epic 4g touch - Motorola Photon 4G

If your thinking about changing from the photon to the epic 4g touch. I wouldnt switch and the reason i say dont switch is because i have a history with samsung i have had the captivate, droid charge, revolution, tab, infuse which is enough to know about them. And with motorola i had a droid 1, droid 2 and droid 3, droid x and x2,xoom and photon. And i can honestly that motorola hands down makes the better product alot of people i know buy into what the reviewers say about the device and not make our own judgement. On samsung i found myself rooting it and the installing a lagfix with motorola i root and setcpu and its good. Also the build quality with way different motorola has them beat in that department. I mean that plastic with samsung is not got one drop and its bad yea its thin but ur paying the price for it with build quality. All im saying is put motorola phones next to samsung and u will c a major difference. And as for as those speed tests go thats all good that u get a highscore and all but the photon is a beast of a phone. Dont b easy fooled cause the epic is new on the block. Also the screen on the photon is amazing.

Where is all the support
I have been debating back and forth and which phone to keep... The Photon is a great phone but it seems like there has only been crickets in the dev section. I look at the SGS2 dev section and there is tons of things going on. I love android because I find it fun playing with the phones, changing ROMS and everything else.. But it seems like there are not a lot of devs interested in this phone, and honestly I don't have enough time to learn how to be a dev, I just follow the instructions.. I guess we will see... oh and GO PACKERS.

I've had both MORE Samsungs and more Motos than what you have listed.
I cannot find the truth in your post
When work gave me a Moto Nextel i950 I had a Samsung a680.
When work gave me a Moto Razr I had a Samsung Blade.
And on and on and on.....
Everyone says some BS about Samsungs flimsy build.....I don't see it....I've NEVER seen it.
My Samsung Vibrant was built NO DIFFERENT in quality to this Photon.....BOTH have cheesy plastic backs.
HTC has cheesy plastic backs.
LG has cheesy plastic backs.
Huawei has cheesy plastic backs.
Christ get over it already.
I'm dropping this Photon POS due to the LOCKED bootloader.
At least with Samsung I can flash and tweak to my hearts content.

You sir seem to have something stuck up your you know what. They arent talking about the plastic backs, theyre talking about the fact that Samsung in general has issues with overheating, low signal, shotty GPS, random battery drains, and an overall flimsy structure. You also don't seem to be doing any research, as the bootloader is unlocked on the Photon now.

Not to mention...Samsung is also very slow on updates. The Epic is still on 2.2 while the almost all of Motorola phones has been or will be updated to 2.3.
With Ice cream sandwich right around the corner, I'm just not so sure I want to exchange my Photon for the Epic Touch.

@n2ishun u talking about phones that dont count we r talking about android and i had more phones than that but im not talking about flip phones and messaging phones im talking about more updated phones anybody that really into phones know whats up i got the epic right now and the droid 3 and photon motorola has a better build quality call quality.

Meh.... Bootloader unlocked without 4G may as well be locked at this point. Moto is killing this phone sitting on their thumbs with no official bootloader unlock.

I went from a Samsung vibrant to the photon. For the most part I loved the vibrant. My phone before that was a nexus one. Their is a noticeable difference in build quality. I prefer htc and Motorola over Samsung. Yeah the new epic touch 4 g is ultra thin but will it last two years? I plan on keeping my photon till my two year contact is up. Also getting updates was a pain with Samsung. They doing do ota updates, but you have to install it from a PC and go thru this whole process thats a pain.

After messing with the Samsung infuse I changed my mind about swhiching. The screen is way to big and with only a 800 x 480 resolution it fails. Sprint should of just kept it at 4.3 inches which I think is the sweet spot for phones.

All that is well and good but I had a Photon, upgraded to MR5, had all the tips and tricks and I STILL had NO AUDIO on calls. Is it too much to ask that I have audio on a call that by all indications has gone through? If I can make and receive calls on the Samsung then that's the phone for me.

Also considering Motorola is now owned by google, we'll probably get ice cream sandwich within in the first month of it's release. Google has had a great track record updating phones they own.

Nexus phones and "phones they own" are a bit different.
I was really annoyed at the lack of development for a while but then I thought back to my evo which really needed it to keep up, and the epic were anything other than bone stock had stupid connectivity issues. I've rooted my mopho to restore apps and that's it. It just works outside the box. if I really feel like getting squirrley I might look to remove the bloat with root explorer. But ive gotten amazing battery life, awesome performance, great signal and call quality. Really im only missing the dev from my old flash junkie ways not that the phone needs it.
Basically if yall want to leave then GTFO and stop posting, if you want to stay let them GTFO and enjoy your amazing phone. I doubt it will be all too soon that this phone becomes too underspecced to run our favorite apps.
If you are having issues and haven't screwed with removing system apps and have tried removing all installed apps and putting them back on one at a time bring your phone back it probably was a bad build. Its really not that hard people, the vast majority love how this phone functions, the fact that I can see it in full sunlight is awesome.
If you want better benchmarks go get the GSII and pray to whatever God you believe in that the hardware is compatible enough to make use of all of those devs already there otherwise it could be an EPIC fiasco all over again. Base your opinions on the here and now, not some future potential that may or may not be achieved later. Just don't come back and complain about reception/gloat about some number on a benchmark let us happy MoPhoers be.

Oooo! I didn't even think of that. Good point. I hope this actually happens (getting excited, cannot contain myself!!!) lol

The only thing I wish this phone had were toggles on the notification pull down menu. Those are so nice on Sammy and HTC. I've tried some of the apps that do this, but they all tell me my phone doesn't support multiple toggles on a single widget. If someone could figure out a way to do this, I would forget all about the e4gt.

I wouldn't expect that to be of much benefit to a phone that is already on the market though. I'm looking forward to an amazing Android moto, yes, but I dont expect the photon to become that device.
On the Samsungs again, they don't get updated, they get released partially functional and then ditched. Some of you are talking about ice cream sandwich now? Epics froyo update was painfully late. We still can't get a full-featured GB. Our front camera only works sideways in video chat. And our TV output is blocked. Bring into this everything that was already mentioned about overheating, poor signal, shoddy GPS, and random battery drains. It would take a lot of convincing to get me to buy another one.
I'm totally digging this photon thing, but looking g forward to what's next from motogoogle.

Vib or mytouch 4G?

Hello folks,
I'm a loyal VZW customer, please don't throw tomatoes, and I love my Fascinate even though it has a few warts. My friend is on Tmo and ready to chuck his old BB into the Tennessee River. After much reading it seems to come down to the Vibrant or the mytouch 4G. I know that the mytouch was giving folks some grief in rooting and so forth and the vibrant has been sorted out.
My question is can someone who has T-mo give me opinions on these phones? I know this is the Vib forum and expect answers accordingly but the Vib is basically the slightly older brother to my Fascinate and I know how much it rocks even with Sammy dragging their feet at times.
Thanks.
As much as I love my vibrant I would go with the mytouch.

Only thing on the Nexus S that's better than the Vibrant is the NAND chip and the OS.
Everything else is arguably worse, or the same at best.
Well, maybe the GPS will work right.
In any case, that phone is not "worth the wait."
you already have a fascinate, why not try other manufacturer like htc instead of samsung.

The NFC chip may be nice. The EXT4 filesystem is too. The FFC and BFC flash are probably important to some. The lack of an SD card is bad. I don't want a Nexus S, myself. The Vibrant is still my favorite.

Mytouch 4G IMO. Physically it just feels nicer, it has hsdpa+ (meh), has a front facing camera, and the GPS works right on it. The built in software is slightly less bad than the Vibrant's, and I'd actually be willing to bet that it will see an official CM build before the Vibrant does (despite being released so much later).
Tell him to suck it up till the dual-core phones come out in early 2011.
I absolutely love the Vibrant. So hard to brick, lots of development, Cyanogen is going to happen, great hardware, great screen.
The MT4G has advantages, but i think it is ugly as Duck (kind of me not to cuss, right).... I would hate to pick up that phone everyday... it is just not attractive, at all to me. the data speed would be nice though, if you are in a "4G" city.

The NAND chip in the Nexus S is much better than the Vibrants. There's a chance that even with RFS we would not be getting the types of lags we get if we had the better NAND chip.
Camera Flash, LED Notification are pretty basic features and Samsung not giving them to us was a faux pas - but they didn't really have any competition on our carrier when the phone was released (only the HD2, that was it), so there wasn't any real incentive for them to put them on there - all things considered.
FFC is nice but not necessary. Maybe in a year or so the market will get to a point where it's an expected feature.
Lack of SD card is bad but with 16GB storage I'd take a better NAND and a LED Notification and Flash over a card slot, personally...
Don't go for the MyTrash 4g. Come on. You should know better than that. Just get a Nexus S next week and you'll be fine. It has 2.3. Nice clean interface, no TouchWiz, SAMOLED screen, Front facing camera. It's a no brainer!
MyTrash 4G is ugly, has a washed out screen, ugliest UI I've ever seen on a phone, speaker sucks, battery life sucks, camera sucks. Garbage. Why would anyone on earth ever consdier that POS. So what if it has HSPA+! So what if it has a FFC and so what if has a so called "second generation" processor. Like it's that much faster. Please. Believe me, it isn't. The Nexus S probably wont have Samsungs stupid file system and since it will have 2.3, speed will be on par with the MyTrash if not just a little behind but only by a nose.

lol yeah. But I'm really disappointed at HTC. They make good ****. Why did they have to be patronizing and give T-Mo a Fisher Price/Tech looking ugly ass phone with a ugly user interface. Why couldn't they just make a phone with the HD7/Evo's body and just use regular Sense. That's all they had to do.
The nexus s runs VANILLA ANDROID which means it will get updates Way before the vibrant or MT4G. Id wait for the nexus s and try it out in person.

I have a Vibrant and a Nexus One and a MT4G. I am going to sell my Nexus One . I like the Vibrant best as I am using it to learn the how to;s and where for's of rooting and flashing etc. I am a nubie and I do not feel comfortable doing much to the Nexus One or the Mt4g. The Vibrant seems to be very difficult to do total damage to(at least thats what I have read on these threads) but I hope I do not find out just how difficult that is any time soon. IMO the Mt4g is the best all around phone. That is for phone basics and it does everything well ( however apparently no one thing great) and is just a solid performer, but it seems to not be user friendly to users who are not well versed in Adb or have a lot of experience in rooting and flashing and recovering etc. The Vibrant has Odin which I find to be very useful once you finally get it installed. That is just my opinion. I am going to keep the Vibrant for sure and probably the MT4g and am in the process of deciding whether or not to go for the Nexus S. (I probably will)
This phone isn't for me. It really is for a friend that really doesn't have any intention of doing any major "customization".

Just got my Wife a Mytouch 4G and after playing with it I am torn. Vibrant is great, but the random lags drive me nutz. Yes I have played with custom roms and they do seem to help but always come across weird glitches and end up back on stock as at least it is 100% stable for me. MT4G just seems over all snappier, and while screen isn't as vibrant, never had issues with blurry text in web browser. Also forgot how nice it was having HTC phones turn over to silence incoming calls and other little stuff like that. Vibrant is much lighter though, MT4G is heavier than it looks!
If I had to do it over, would probably get the MT4G.
Nexus S is a let down for me. Memory card slot would be nice, but no HSDPA+? WTF?

I have an Incredible, thinking of trying out Fascinate with Community ROM

Has anyone made this switch? I currently have a stock HTC Incredible. I had custom ROMs on it but went back to stock and stayed there. I love the Fascinate hardware just not the stock software. I was thinking of picking one up and flashing the new Community ROM. How does the Community ROM compare to stock Sense on the Incredible? (if anyone has made the switch themselves)
-I need it to work with an Exchange email account
-Google Navigation/GPS to work flawlessly
Should I just stick with the Incredible? Or would the Community ROM work for me?
Over all the experience will be simpler and less cluttered without sense. My phone is super fast and smooth with the comrom. My gps works great. The only problem for you will be the lack of htc sync. Other than that everything will be an improvement especially the screen.

I just made the same switch a few weeks ago. The 2 things I miss about the dinc are CM7 nightlies and the ease of flashing (no odin, recovery/radio confusion, etc). I'm loving the superior processor, gpu, and screen on the fascinate. I'd say go for it. Get a case though. This thing is a wet bar of soap.

A very smart move indeed. The fascinate is quite impressive but in my opinion is past its prime with the way technology is moving. We are on the event horizon of the SGSII and the Droid Charge is a small step up from our phone.
Hold out till we hear news of the iteration of the SGSII Verizon will be getting before you make a choice. If we get the actual SGSII I will be jumping ship for it just for the support and hardware.

Yeah, I always intended to get the SGS2 but who knows if/when that will be here especially for Verizon. Just wanted something to tide me over. Even though the Incredible is a great phone I get bored of my phones so quickly.
Hopefully the SGS2 comes by September but I won't hold my breath.
I made the switch a week ago, though I still have my incredible in case I want to go back. The main reason I bought the fascinate was for the super amoled 4 inch screen and it just officially got 2.2. Very nice phone and it was kind of cool learning the rooting process all over again. Its definitely not as easy as the incredible, especially since I can't use rom manager with it but its not like its that bad. I am a rom whore though so that much I do miss about the incredible.I'm basically jumping back and forth from community and evil roms. I use different kernels and undervolting to occupy my time.
I got mine for 200 on craigslist in perfect condition with a case and screen protectors. I wouldn't pay more since it seems it will soon be fazed out like the inc and the development isn't as strong as htc, though I wish it was. I don't mean that as the devs are bad, just not as many. The fascinate seems to have absorbed alt of the great devs from the eris.
As far as those things you need working, I don't use them so i can't help you there. sorry.

[Q] Should I get a Photon?

Hey guys and girls,
I'm coming back to the smartphone world - had a Droid and an EVO. Loved them both. I see that the Photon's bootloader is unlocked - but it drops 4G access, etc.
is this ever going to change? with the release of the source is development for the phone going to pick up?
I cannot wait any longer to get a phone. At this point my choices are EVO 3D or a Photon, (and maybe returning either for a SGS2 once it releases and I see how it fares)
If you were in my shoes, had to get a phone tomorrow - would you get the Photon or the EVO 3D?

I'm not worried about the 3D - I'm worried about the future of the device. It seems the dev community for the EVO 3D is much larger at this point and I'm worried that development for the Photon won't get as far because of the issues with 4G being dumped, etc.
I've owned motorola and htc devices before, like i said, and I liked both - I just want to make sure that I can customize it through ROMs and still have full functionality.

In my opinion, those reviews come from EVO 3D and wannabe GS2 owners. Haters are gunna hate.
As an analogy, I believe that part of the issue is that standard def signals are being put into an HD screen. You know, a standard TV actually looks better than an HD TV with a standard signal because the HD TV shows the flaws. Just my2cents.
Not to mention the inability of Samsung to stay on top of development for their products...terrible in my opinion...
I'm sticking with my MoPho!

defiantly Photon, Evo 3D has horrible service, and the Photon just runs smoother in my opinion
For what its worth I traded my Evo3D for the MoPho, mainly because of battery life. I've been thrilled with it. MoPho vs SG2... well, thats a different issue.
I think my main complaint with the MoPho is that the USB and HDMI ports cannot be used when using the kickstand. I know why they did it, to sell more docks, but its annoying as hell and makes the stand damn near useless IMO. Got rid of Blur almost immediately with launcherpro so no problems there. The thing has already been rooted, easily, and the kernal release its a matter of weeks before ROMs start to land..
For sure go with MoPho over the evo3D. People who say that the 3D's battery life "isn't that bad" are lying to your face.

Photon 4G HANDS DOWN!
First off, let me preface this by stating I am a die-hard EVO 4G backer! That phone has been the best phone (so far) I have ever owned! Hands down! Now, I am a business owner and require a sturdy, reliable, functional phone to conduct my daily business.
I have owned a Samsung Nexus S, Photon 4G, and an EVO 3D. They all have their issues. But in terms of signal strength, call quality, loudness, speed, battery life, and overall functionality, FOR ME... hands down...the Photon 4G performed the best.
The EVO 3D is fast and pretty but for what I need it to do, it sucks! I have had random reboots, weak signal strength, call drops, the speaker quality sounds like crap compared to the photon, BATTERY LIFE SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!, and to top it off, I use square to collect payments from clients and when I connect it, the 3D thinks it is headphones and starts to play my music player! Let's just say some clients aren't really big Tupac fans as I am! Then when i am finished with the transactions and unplug the square device, I can ONLY talk to people using the speaker phone UNTIL I reboot the phone.
I love HTC from a development standpoint, but rooting and dealing with the 3D doesn't take on the same amount of ease as the OG 4G did. I love trying out different ROMs but from a business standpoint, I need functionality and dependability. I know some of you may say 'maybe you just had a lemon'. Let's just say that after the third 3D from different lots, I would say 'nyet'!
The Photon is not without its issues but for my requirements, Motorola Photon is my choice. Launcher pro took care of the motoblur issue. I will say this...the moment there is a AOSP ROM out for the photon, I will be getting it!
I loved the Samsung Nexus S for its smoothness. Didn't have major issues although the signal strength was a little weak and the loudness (ear piece, ringers, and speaker) sucked. Looking forward the the Epic 4G touch (SGS2)!

Robert

Hey guys and girls,
I'm coming back to the smartphone world - had a Droid and an EVO. Loved them both. I see that the Photon's bootloader is unlocked - but it drops 4G access, etc.
is this ever going to change? with the release of the source is development for the phone going to pick up?
I cannot wait any longer to get a phone. At this point my choices are EVO 3D or a Photon, (and maybe returning either for a SGS2 once it releases and I see how it fares)
If you were in my shoes, had to get a phone tomorrow - would you get the Photon or the EVO 3D?

This is the Photon forums so yea.....get a Photon.
As for the 4g, source code has only been out for a day. It is being worked on and for sure will soon have custom kernels and unlocked bootloader w/everything working. Peeps just need to have a little patience. This phone got root almost right out of the gate not to mention we already have custom recovery. From my perspective, developement of the Photon is moving ahead rapidly. Phone has only been out for little over a month.

Amen to that statement.
Yeah, they do have a beautiful screen but considering the number of times that Samsung's dropped the ball in supporting their products after its released with timely fixes and maintenance releases, endless delays for upgrading to the latest Android platform, not to mention being notorious for having a lousy GPS function, I'm a bit surprised that anyone is considering one of their phones as a viable option.
As G W Bush would say, "There's an old saying in Tennessee that we also have in Texas. Fool me once, shame on you.... Fool me, can't get fooled again."
No thanks Samsung. Your beautiful screens are great on televisions. But I don't care to have one on my phone if you can't support them after making them.

Turn the phone over. The kickstand supports the phone in either orientation.

Photon or Epic Touch

Hello everyone I need some help deciding if I should get the Photon 4G or the Epic Touch? I really want the Photon but I'm a little worried about the pentile display, the lag and random reboots I've been hearing about. I'm worried about the Epic Touch because of the weak reception, plasticky hardware, and I also don't know if the 4.5 in screen is just too big? What do you all think?

My Photon works great! No real lag and never randon reboots.
However, I am thinking of getting another phone because the Photon does not have nearly as much develpment as some phones do.
And I am eager to try ice cream sandwich (which is already available on the Nexus S, Epic Touch, etc.)
The pentile screen bothers me only rarely. I think the better your eye sight is, the worse it looks. For me, it only looks pixellated when my glasses are on ;-)
Good point the development for the photon does seem lacking

Random reboots are a gingerbread thing. Just about every GB phone has that problem, some more than others. I've had 1 in the month and a half I've had my photon. Epic Touch is great from a computing standpoint, that's where it really wins. However, the support from Samsung is very lacking. They have quite a few issues, especially loss of signal, where they have to be rebooted to get signal back. Photon works better as a phone, and still very good as a computer. Touch great as a computer, not so great as a phone. Development may lack here, but it's not as necessary yet (until software and programming start to overload the hardware, about a year).
The display difference is very noticeable, as I came from an Epic. After a couple weeks, however, I didn't really notice anymore and it definitely doesn't bother or annoy me.

I have had a stock ROM rooted Motorola Photon 4G since it's launch as well as the POTAUs and haven't had any issues with mine regarding response lag or device reboots and the PenTile matrix display doesn't phase me any. If you need an Android OS based device and travel internationally, I'd go with the Motorola Photon 4G. If you want an ultra thin Android OS based design with a screen size just under a 2" difference short of the Galaxy Tab, go with the Samsung Epich Touch 4G.
my photon reboots atleast twice a day.I'd go for the epic touch if I could do it again.

Photon... Some people on here don't look good enough in the development section.. OC kernels a very stable Cm7 with everything working.. And that even have a oc 1.4 kernel to it... You can push out 40 different roms with maybe 1 or 2 tweak differences.. Lot of the devs been working quietly.. And there's something cold .... Hmmm .. Lol.. But honestly the photon is a great device best in my book for sprint radio and build wise.. The ET is ok just don't trust Samsung anymore.. The reboots not happening with me unless they do when I'm sleep. Just get a photon my word you won't regret it..

I came from epic touch to photon. Personally i have had a lot of issues with samsung phones. The major one (hopefully fixed by now) was the loss of service issue. Thats why i got the photon and i dont regret it at all.

The photon is a much better device, better build quality, better wireless radio. The original Epic 4G just got officially updated to Gingerbread a couple weeks ago so that lets you know how bad samsung is when it comes to supporting there phones. If you've ever owned a samsung phone you know about the cheap plastic feel they all have. Question is would you rather have a bigger screen or a better phone?
I actually bought a near mint used photon off eBay as I got tired of waiting on Samsung to push put GB for my Epic as my family's cheaper phones were getting GB. I have not had a single of the issues that have been reported. Crosses fingers. Never had a random reboot. The battery life is amazing! As soon as an ICS port comes out, I'll likely root it. I have looked at the ET4G, but would be hard pressed to leave my photon for it. Just my opinion. You'll find pros and cons for both. The photon runs every app that I needed from the market flawlessly. It is an excellent phone.
I love my photon haven't had a problem since i got it(week after it came out). We just need more devs.

to do what ??
port CM7 ? (almost done and almost official.. then I suspect work on MIUI may follow)
build kernels for overclocking ? (done.. we're stable to 1.4)
for themes ? (got plenty of that going on)
or here's a harsh statement. join the dev crowd. Then we'll have another one.
A device's quality is not measured by the development community behind it. A device's quality is measured by how well it works and the support it receives from it's manufacturer.
Most of the development communities for some of the other devices are re themed copies of 1 or 2 different ROMs and a tweak or 2 here or there.. most of the 'devs' in the other device communities are "cut/paste' devs.. they copy and paste different parts of several ROMs together, package it and call it their own.
What we have here in MoPhoLand are several VERY talented devs that collaborate and really BUILD their software enhancements/improvements. Sure they ask for help along the way when they run into an obstacle but who doesn't ?? Personally I got sick of flashing ROM after ROM after ROM on my Epic just to get this feature working properly, or get away from that bug etc.. IMO the selection of enhancements that are available for the Photon are very good quality. CM7 is very usable, we also have a couple overclock kernels. what more do you need ?? The device is great just rooted stock.. anything else is just taking something really good and making it great.

Well i guess you are right that a lot of other "devs" are copy and paste, and that i should also learn how to do what i want seeing it's well what i want.I guess the only thing i'm really waiting for is unlocked bootloader w/ 4g Seeing i live in a 4g area and it is really nice to have. So i should have been more careful on choosing my words instead of just saying "we just need more devs". Also learning how to create stuff for phones sounds like fun, seeing i love to learn stuff like this and I've learned basics of java and looked into c++ just because it was interesting to me, It's just since my son was born, working full time and spending time with my wife kind of eats all my time, I can almost never work on my car or even clean it cuz i'm so busy now a days. So to wrap things all up, yes we do have a great devs and i should learn to help myself instead of asking for people to do it for me. But if someone was doing it for me i'm willing to wait.

No lags for me.
Reboots once a week - but my HTC phones did that too. It's an Android SW issue, not a HW issue.
I love the Pentile display, but some hate it. See it for yourself.
Sammy is cheap and plastic to me.
I tried the 2 phones side by side in a store - Moto much better on data speeds.
4.5 is not an issue to me - really doesn't seem big.
You didn't mention the showstopper for me - the lower resolution for the Sammy. That alone kept me from buying.
For those of you experiencing random reboots, does it ever happen to you when you are talking on the phone? This is a big problem for me.
Deff go with the Photon. I bought it used off Ebay and have had no issues. I came from an Epic 4g and ill never go back to Sammy again. They dont support their device and when an updates thats been promised for months finally comes out it breaks the GPS. I have a friend with the Epic Touch and he hates it. Its a good phone but there is a severe loss of service issue that Sprint and Samsung have no idea when it will be fixed. On my old epic I had 1 bar of service in my house now I have 4 bars. I love this phone. Best part about it in my opinion is the fact that Google bought Motorola so we should be seeing an update to ICE relatively soon.
just say no to crapsung!

One of the main downfalls i can see for the photon if you use 4g and your lazy (like me) and don't wona do the long way to get ROMs on

Is this phone worth upgrading from the TBolt?

Hi all, just need a few opinions from some people, and who better to ask than Rezound owners themselves? Currently I have my TBolt and I love it except a few things are starting to go bad with it. The haptic feedback is starting to go out, it doesn't always vibrate when I'm getting a call or text even though I know for a fact I have it set on vibrate and the back lights on the capacitive buttons are starting not to work all the time. It's just starting to get a little annoying. So I was thinking of either getting a replacement TBolt or possibly upgrading to the Rezound. I wanted to know if this phone was worth getting or if I should just stick with this TBolt til the next gen Verizon HTC phone came out. Thanks
coming from both a tbolt and a dinc2 id say yes, it's worth the upgrade.
Came from inc2, get it and you won't be able to put it down
I'm living on a yellow submarine
No I hate it!! It has too good of a screen and too good of signal strength.
Coming from the incredible, it's a substantial upgrade. I'd say try to get a rezound as a replacement to the thunderbolt. Maybe make a big deal about it. If not, I'd personally say to wait until a One X variant comes to Verizon.
I came from the evo4G and my wife has a tbolt this phone smokes both of them love it so much I would say wait for the HTC one but sources say it won't be on.Verizon just sprint and att. But you won't regret getting this phone

I came from a bolt. I think its a substantial upgrade, but I stole my girls upgrade and gave her my bolt to get this. So...definatly a $300 substantial upgrade. Idk about 600+ for retail. The screen is gorgeous and updating like 11 market apps while using your phone without a hiccup is very nice. Do miss the kickstand though lol

I came from the tbolt, complained over and over, and after going through 5 tbolts they said I was worthy of switching devices. Asked and received the rezound. Substantial improvement. Even with mostly just sense based roms available, the difference is dramatic. I'd definitely say upgrade to the rez!
I agree. worth the update now that ICS can be used daily. within time we'll have custom kernels and eventually aosp
if I helped then hit the "thanks" option

Yes. But don't blame us if something better comes out the day after you upgrade.
I mean, the decision is ultimately up to you.
Rezound upgrade
I had a Thunderbolt and now am using a Rezound. I absolutely love this phone. I am also happy with ICS and appreciate all the devs hard work.
Let's just say I was waiting in anticipation for this phone when this was still called the Vigor!
I had the Thunderbolt. Bought the Rezound and never looked back. Alot more memory.
On the leaked stock ICS RUU and loving it.
The screen on the rezound is amazing and the batt life is decent, but there's no S-off and there's really not a lot of dev work going on for this phone. Only a couple of roms to choose from. Depends on what you're really looking for. Stock phone with a great display, then absolutely its worth the upgrade. If you like doing lots of flashing and a wide selection of roms, then absolutely not.

What's limiting us is the inability to gain S-Off, either way I prefer smaller groups of custom roms available versus nearly every dev working on the device. It can potentially make a huge jumble of a mess. I think the rom that came pre-flashed on it is actually very good, so why try to fix what's not broken.

the more devs the better. i know some are comfortable with what we have and im not bashing but if we had more devs im sure s-off and aosp would probably be here already. the rezound is still a good device non the less.
I find it awkward that people say they like the feel of the extendable battery. I thought that was one of the reasons people went HTC over Samsung because of the perceived build quality. None of my Samsung phones have ever creaked as bad as this phone does with the extended battery put on. Makes it feel even worse than my old MT3G.
