Do we need an Moto "APB"(atrix, photon, bionic) group? - Motorola Photon 4G

Im tired of hearing about no rom support and no support in aftermarket (video calling ,ect) for our moto phones..i think it time for the moto "apb" phone users band together to help each other as they share much in common and in problems..
Thoughts?

actually the binonic uses new internals ergo its very different.

then how about a "Pho-Trix" or "A-Tron" group ??
the atrix and photon share some commonalities, no ?

well most of the kernel code and tricks can be patched over, but as far as sharing, not so much. like on the g2 you can use dz radios kernels roms etc.. we wont have that due to the radios. hell even the nexus s and nexus s 4g cant share roms and its the same phone, just with wimax and cdma.

While Im aware their are MAJOR differences beween the atrix - photon - bionic (including a diffrent CPU in the bionic from the atrix & photon) there is some things in common ...
From how Moto locks to the the "webtop" and docks these phones have... to whatever we find in common.
Bottom line I just think we need to leverage whatever we can find in common ever if in just to group together to twist Moto arm on things or the after market support (It tick me, things like that not one of these phone is supported by skype video chat or even on a list to be supported)
These three sure have more in common than they do with HTC or Samsung phones
We have in common having some of the best hottest harware out there and we have in common a lack of software support for that harware
Unite and fight to unlock their potential. Im tired of HTC and Samsung trash talkers

Atrix 2 rom ported to Atrix?

Dont think this is possible, but just a thought. I seen a video of the Atrix 2 and the new UI looks awesome. Very fluent and smooth as well. And with the ability for HDMI mirroring, this would be of definite interest.
Problem is, Atrix 2 is using omap and we have the tegra 2. Im not sure if there are some hardware specific settings/programming/kernals etc.
Just a thought peoples so dont chew me out lol. When the Atrix 2 gets rooted it would be interested to see the system dump file and compare it with ours. Maybe Moto actually upgraded the webtop and made it quicker.

Maybe there would be more of a "skin". It just depends on how many people want it.
For me I would probably still use LP just because that's the best Android experience since Vanilla IMO...

[Q] Porting an Inspire ROM to the Rezound

Can anyone port this ROM or if it's simple help me do it?

Unfortunately porting a ROM is not as easy as swapping a few files.

1) wrong resolution....inspire/dhd are wvga screens (if it was bigger you could typically resize down with m10 tools...not gonna really work the other way)
2) lte...as witnessed by the thunderbolt porting is significantly more difficult to an lte device from a non lte rom...data is often a no-go (especially for sense 3.5 +)...really erishasnobattery was about the only person capable of it and he no longer has a rezound....as more lte phones on other carriers with similar resolutions come out, porting may become easier/more prevalent
3) its never "simple" unless porting from a nearly identical device ie: inspire - dhd - desire s or og inc - evo 4g (or inc2 to inc s to an extent by gsm to cdma involves a few more files than gsm to gsm)
4) since thats an aosp rom, it could be built on a stable base for this phone...but afaik that doesnt exist atm...

should i buy this phone ? !!

hello guys , right now i'm a htc wildfire s owner and i'm looking to replace it with a new android device ( better hardware ) and iam very confused between 2 devices the Motorola Atrix 4g and the Sony Xperia Sola but i kinda like the Atrix because of this huge forum there is alot of Roms and stuff but i wanted u Atrix owners to help me explain some points
- i read here on xda that all the new Atrix devices well not be unlocked link here sooo is that true ?
- if i bought this device i think i'll unlock it after a couple weeks and if i wanted to know what isn't exactly working in the CM9 rom cuz it's my favorite and does toggling bluetooth and wifi force restart the device ( ohhh god i sufferd this issue with my wfs ) and does the HDMI port work with ICS based roms ? !!
- is there a webtop for ics roms ?
- in worst cases is CM7 fully working ? !! ( stable ) cuz i can't imagine my self stuck with the orginal rom
that's it for now, thank u guys in advance hope to to join u soon
The Sola and Atrix are both damn good phones, The Sola looks nice, has a good(similar to i9100)chipset, better camera, better screen and the Atrix has more functionality (TegraZone, webtop, docks, 1gb ram etc)
The Atrix also has a lot more development going on at the moment, compared to the Sola and the latest CM7.2 build runs perfectly on the Atrix.
But it's up to you.
Edit( whether it is "un-lockable" depends on where you buy it from, yes the newer ones aren't, but they still have the initial batches floating around)

well thank's to you mate , but are u sure the sola has a better screen compared to the atrix ( the atrix has a higher ppi and res !! ) and u said it's wether unlockable or not depeinding on where i buy i don't relly get what u mean but i'll be buying it from egypt and not from a specific carrier soo it's not locked for a certain carrier and can u please provide me with any information about what's not working in the cm9 build and most important the HDMI out ....

Resolution of the screen is really nice but for me personally a little too high for a 4" screen.
But the main problem is the colours it produces. Blacks aren't completely black they have a slight brownish greyish look to them. The other colours in general look washed out. Doesn't bother me too much but when comparing to other phones the difference in colours is instantly noticeable.
The atrix hardware is nice. Will run anything you throw at it. We have a very nice stable cm7.2 rom
If I were you I would wait a little while longer to see if Motorola release official ICS for the atrix before buying one unless you don't mind sticking with gingerbread.

Well the screen is also smaller on the sola, and it has a full set of sub pixels as well as the bravia engine.
The Atrix has a pentile matrix, so even though there is more pixel density, the pentile matrix makes individual pixels more visible.
Well since you're buying in egypt, there probably is a chance your local store has the initial-release stock of the atrix. But there is no garuntee, I bought a second atrix (for a friend), here in New Zealand a few weeks ago and it was unlockable,
I personally haven't tried ICS or JB because im more interested in a working phone (LOL), I don't like having to toy around with things that only work half the time and/or not at all, thats why I try to stay away from the roms until they're stable.....But still, support the developers for their hard work, even if you aren't using their roms just yet (they all look promising).
there are a lot of things not working in the CM9/CM10 roms, that even the devs can't list them all, and a lot of functionality is software-based because there is no driver support for hardware until next month or so, when we get the official ICS from Moto.
The phone works great on CM7 if you're willing to buy it now.
Prefer to buy Galaxy Nexus, S2, Notes, etc... for most update ROM is already there.
if my Atirx will be broken, I Will buy another Atrix. This is one of the greates devices, fingerprint lock, webtop, and many more Especialy Tegra2 and 1GB RAM

okay your totally right the Galaxy nexus is a great phone but comparing the prices here where is live the atrix sells for 2000 EGP and the nexus for 3500 EGP so there is a huge difference that i can't afford right now and there is also a thing that i don't like about all the nexuses ( except the nexus one ) which is there is no SD Card ..... i can't really imagine my life without an SD Card
I'm considering the same 2 phones. Which phone did you buy, the Xperia Sola or the Atrix?
Atrix
the Atrix is still one of the best phones I have ever owned, and the accessories are great and probably much cheaper now
Like people have said before, cm7 works perfectly. But there is not gonna be any ics for this phone from motorola. The devs are working on jellybean right now. Epinter's cm10 is pretty much a daily driver with hw acceleration issues because of no drivers for kernel. Apart from that its a great rom.

Problem is that there will never be any official ICS from Motorola, and unless the Olympus ICS/JB kernel port is successful, it's likely there will never be any third party HW acceleration either. And yes, there is talk of Motorola releasing the code for the unfinished ICS kernel, but talk is one thing, but I wouldn't bet the farm on seeing it happen any more than I'd bet on a dead horse winning the Kentucky Derby.
Sure the device itself isn't bad, but the only support you will get for the device is dependent on a dwindling community. Honestly, if I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have just gotten something different, I would have ran away from the thing screaming like a little girl.

[Q] Should I buy a Motorola Droid Razr?

Hi guys
I currently have a SGSII t989 and I love it except for little things I noticed, one is this behaviour [1], I'm planning selling it to buy another cellphone with similar specs. What I'm looking for is:
- 1.2 GHz processor or more
- 1GB RAM
- TV output (via MHL or dedicated port)
- [Desireable] Removable battery (I know Droid Razr doesn't have it)
- MicroSD slot
- Screen range: 4.3" - 4.5"
- Good ROM's support
- Price range: US 250 - US 300
I'm considering buy one between Motorola Droid Razr, SGSII i777 (AT&T's) and HTC Rezound and want to know your thoughts being Droid Razr owners. I have some questions for you:
- Is this device bootloader locked? (I had a Defy and it had that issue)
- Is the non-removable battery an issue for you?
- Have you tried GTA Vice City? In my T989 it doesn't work apparently because of processor-chipset combination. I want to use the most of games that the device can support and this is one of my favorites games
- Will you recommend this phone?
- If you use CM 10.1, does HDMI out working?
Thanks in advance

- BL was locked, but no need to worried about that.
- Not an issue actually,if you buy a RAZR MAXX,you can use for more than 4 days with D-WIZ ROM.
- Almost every game works.I tried GTA,Real Race,MASS EFFECT,Tample run,doodle jump,Angry brids,Fruit ninjia,they all works perfectly.
- It's a great phone.
- HDMI seems not working with CM10.1,but you can use both STOCK SYSTEM and CM10.1.No need to be worried.

Hi 我顶你个肺隔膜,
i have even the opportunity to by an razr droid.
Actually i use my HD2 since 4 years nearly. There was a very huge dev community. And i got everything to configure.
Now my question:
Is there a rom without the motorola implemented stuff, like a pure android rom without modifications of motorola, which runs stable?
(On HD2 i had 100s roms but only some roms worked without problems and with all functions and features.)
Go for iut

As for your questions,
Yes.! The BL is locked but that ain't an issue for me.
Non-removable battery doesn't cause any problems.
Yes.! And it works..so does most of the games.
Already answered.
CM 10.1 is in development state right now so many things might not work. You gotta wait for a stable build.

Hey Guys, not to thread-jack, but I've also been considering the Droid RAZR and, like OP, had some questions so I thought I'd just post them here.
I was wondering if there are any general hardware problems with the phone. For example, I used to have the T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant, and it had a hardware bug where the GPS basically never got a solid lock, I also had a Motorola Defy, and I heard some people had problems with the earpiece sound quality, although mine didn't have that problem. So I guess my question is, are there any flaws in the design of the phone that can't be fixed by software?
Also, how do AOSP-based ROMs run on it? I saw that CM10.1 has a couple bugs, of which the random reboots is the only one that worries me (though I'm sure the devs are hard at work on it!) but is there another version of CM, like CM10 (ICS) that runs better? Are the reboots actually often?
Finally, is anyone here using the XT910 on AT&T? if so, is it detected by AT&T's system as a smartphone? I'm using a Lumia 710 right now that doesn't get detected, so I'm not being forced into getting a data plan, and I'd like to stay that way .
Thanks a lot in advance!, and sorry for the noobish questions, I'm still relatively new to the Motorola scene.
PS: Is there any reason why I shouldn't consider the RAZR? I'm just trying to get the best bang-for-buck that works with AT&T 3G without requiring a data plan, so top-notch performance isn't really my goal.
phantomsniper773, your questions are more than welcome in this thread, it can help me too for choose my next cellphone (already sold the S2 Hercules). Right now I'm thinking more in HTC Rezound that in Razr because of few reviews and the battery thing, I think that eventually in some time (1-2 years) the battery become useless and there will be no replace (worst scenario) and I'll have to sell the phone for a very low price

Ah, well I can't speak for the Rezound myself, but a friend of mine had it and hated it (he exchanged it for a Galaxy Nexus). He said it had really choppy performance and felt too bloated, even with a Custom Sense-based ROM. Of course, this was before they had S-OFF and AOSP ROMs, so I'm sure a lot has changed since then. I just thought I'd mention it.

Is LG or the G2 the worst for flash-addicts

Is the G2 the worst phone for flashing? Most G2 ROMS are alpha or beta a year and half later. Now it could be a LG thing because the G3 doesn't seem to be much better. Given the track record with this phone would any of you actually think about a Flex 2 or G4?

Good phone, but i dont see it like some nice "upgrade" from g2.....
The thing is that htc phone have been getting modded for a long time now. With the likes of AndroidRevolutionHD (ARHD), Insertcoin, Venom (formerly pokemon rom i think) these guys have been working on htc phones for years and know htc sense well, coupled with unlockable bootloaders and htc's usually great build quality these developers have no real need to move elsewhere. They do great work just as our developers do but our developers have a different ball game to play. Locked bootloaders are a dev headache. Delayed source code is a headcahe. While the roms may be beta and alpha here its not fair to say this phone/oem is bad for flashing as the developers may not want to leave beta before all bugs are fixed (and some bugs can be damn stubborn). This coupled with the speed google releases new android versions and peoples lust to have the latest and greatest time for development roms often get left as beta/stable and people move on to the next port/source compile of android. I find alot of the time beta roms are perfectly acceptable for daily drivers but my logic would suggest if theres a bug it should be beta (although oems dont seem to obide to that ). Not to mention to alot of people this is a hobbie not a job, life gets in the way of hobbies.
With that said, i do agree that the m8 doesnt feel like much of a step up from here. Maybe you should hang around here flashing roms until the next HTC upgrade comes along and jump to that? At this point i think its fair to say that the latest htc phone will be supported by the big teams, it will most likely gain s-off and support multirom and the forums will most likely be rammed as usual with people who are new and not so eager to read before flashing

At this point i think its fair to say that the latest htc phone will be supported by the big teams, it will most likely gain s-off and support multirom and the forums will most likely be rammed as usual with people who are new and not so eager to read before flashing

Well said :good:
Far from it. With the LG G2, there are probably more unique options than any other (non-nexus) phone. It can run the skinned G2 software, stock or tweaked. You can flash the skinned G3 software with an updated look. You can flash the LG Flex software. You can run Stock Android in 4.4.4 or 5.0.2 as it's similiarities with the Nexus 5 makes it easier to develop.
I will concede that within skinned roms, the updates are rarer... that will most likely change in the next two months as LG's Official 5.0 updates will go through more optimization until it works as a dev thinks it should.

Is the G2 the worst phone for flashing? Most G2 ROMS are alpha or beta a year and half later. Now it could be a LG thing because the G3 doesn't seem to be much better. Given the track record with this phone would any of you actually think about a Flex 2 or G4?

I think the HTC flagships having the GPE editions give them an advantage if you don't like dealing with hardware compatibility issues the CM, AOSP etc ROMS can have.
The # of models of the G2 doesn't help much.. Daily CM 12's right now for just the one edition IIRC?
I had many HTC phones and the main thing is they abandon their phones quickly. Or at least they did as of One X+. Every phone, we'd have the promise of official firmware for a new version of android and at the last minute the phone would be eol'd.
I guess the gpe phones might help porting new stock firmware? Not sure since I left HTC after the one x+. Also, I found HTC phones bricked easy and unbricking was difficult.
But man, sense has always looked the best, and viper rom is always amazing.
But I like lg because the stock firmware doesn't even make me want to mod it. Every other brand I've had (Sony, Motorola), the stock firmware left something to be desired.

My previous phone was HTC One X, HTC said they wanted to update it to 4.4.2 but nvidia dropped support for its tegra socket, so they didnt have drivers to do that, but i see that htc one m7 is doing good, it will get lolipop till end of next month, so i think they got better with updates, at least thats almost 2 years of fast updates what you want more? Even google haven't updated their galaxy nexus cuz of dropped socket support...

I've heard the Verizon model has super sweet CM12 support and everything just amazing works perfectly. I haven't tried it yet but there are several Lollipop roms for the VS980 model, which is what I have and follow dev for.
The amount of number of various models doesn't help, although by now most roms support all variants with options to select your model for the fine tweaks each different model requires. The only model that has issues is the Verizon one using generic roms. It seems the stock Messaging app doesn't like to do MMS (I think because Verizon uses IMS). Not that there are road blocks. Lots of ports have fine tuned Verizon editions with everything working. I am personally loving the G3 Verizon rom port. It has everything I want/need and no issues.
I agree that the LG G2 does have plenty of options to choose from and it isn't just Stock or AOSP or CM.
I would not see any problem with my flash addict, if camera quality weren't that bad on AOSP roms. It's the only reason why I'm not swapping roms like crazy. I hope Lollipop will somehow change it (dreaming).
Coming from the Rezound and then the Razr MAXX HD, the G2 is My Flash Dream!!!! Roms, kernels, and mods- the ease of it all is ridiculously great(specially being virtually unbrickable)!
Actually I disagree. Yes G2 is not the best in the field of development and flashing but compared to many other flagships, I prefere it. Take a look at development section of exynous version of samsung flagships. Also there is no bootloader lock or knox or... Here
So that's one of the reasons after messing around with a few phones, including note3, nexus 5, G3 and one m7, I came back to g2

When flashing pay attention to model/variant you have, you can end with brick if you select wrong model.
I would not call it the worst phone but it definitely doesn't have the support the old school Galaxy S2 Skyrocket have, I'm still flashing on that thing even though I'm not using. G2 has a ton of alpha and beta roms but very few official stable roms. I'm almost ready to go back to iPhone if these Android phones keep having short-lived ROM support

I suggest you stick to Nexus devices, which is what I'll do once I sell my G2. They tend to have the best action, but I have yet to see a new community with the variety of ROMs that the HTC G1 had...

totally hoping that the new rumors that LG will build a Nexus phone are true, and hoping it will be a real phone and that stupid Nexus 6
