Go with the Atrix? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have to switch to AT&T in about a week and I'm looking at the Atrix as my starter phone.
Best Buy Mobile has it for $50 in the store, and they have a flat 30 day return policy. If I buy the phone around the 20th That should take me through the next major releases on AT&T. Of course, for that price if the Atrix works out I'm keeping it.
Is there anything you would warn me off of on the device coming from an HTC Thunderbolt?

The ATRIX is a great phone that's about to get better with upcoming cm7 and aosp releases.

Nothing to warn you off at all, unless better battery life and more reliable call quality bother you. If that's the case, then stick with the HTC.
But seriously you are gonna live the "upgrade" to the Atrix...

Yes.. I agree for battery life on android (on a stock battery) the atrix can't be beat. With undervolting and custom rom... its very good...

Be warned....ATRIX has great battery

here's a comparison between the cliq xt and the atrix
Width
63.5 mm (2.48 inches)
58.0 mm (2.26 inches)
Height
117.8 mm (4.59 inches)
114.0 mm (4.45 inches)
Depth
11.0 mm (0.43 inches)
15.6 mm (0.61 inches)
Weight
135 grams (4.7 ounces)
163 grams (5.7 ounces)
The atrix is lighter by a whole ounce, THINNER than the cliq XT, and not even all that much taller or wider, and yet it packs a 4 inch qhd screen, a dual core beast, 1 gigs of ram, 16gb of storage, 4g, GINGERBREAD, and webtop.
Atrix is in its own league, after putting it up against the lg thrill, the inspire, and my memories of the G2X...this phone is the first true super phone I've ever used.

Sounds good. With 1-click root available for 2.3.4 it's hard to pass up...

If you can wait.. I believe ATT will release the SGSII soon :T
but if you're in a rush.. Atrix is an amazing phone.

I would say the same thing....get the SGII

I had a chance to test drive my friends SGSII. It is a great phone and it is quick but I wouldn't say that it is much if at all better than the Atrix. He complains about the battery not lasting long at all and the GPS takes some time to lock sometimes (his phone is still stock). The screen was nice but the Atrix screen is also nice, they are just different. I think the colors looked a little too saturated on the SGSII and a little too washed out on the Atrix. Neither are perfect. In terms of speed, they felt the same to me. The Atrix has a lag coming from the lockscreen and the SGSII has a lag going to the Homescreen...take your pick. The general feel was very similar, gaming was nearly identical. The SGSII was a little harder to handle due to it's size and shape (wide and thin).
In short if you can get an Atrix for $50 or an SGSII for $299...I would definitely say Atrix. For that matter if they were both $50 I would still say Atrix.

yea the GPS on the ATRIX is pretty amazing. not gonna lie. main reason why i got an android device was for free voice navigation

qHD (Atrix) vs WVGA (SGSII)?
Atrix is smaller and the color to me looks great.
Battery is great.
Atrix all the way...

Atrix does NOT have 16GB of storage... it's internal storage is 10.7GB.... unless you're talking about a deal where they are throwing in a 16GB external storage.. then yeah..

It has 16 gigs completely formatted with no OS on it. The inspire advertises 4 gigs of internal even though its only like 300 megs of usable storage. So yes it has 16 with 10-11 usable.

Agree.. as that's how even Moto list the specs "up to 16GB".. I should have been more clear in my response, I'm talking about usable, as no one would care if they got 16GB of storage if the phone doesn't boot cus nothing is on it.. just didn't want someone going by what was posted here and seeing only 10GB of storage when they look at the storage space on the phone..

Get it for the $50. It's a steal. You won't have any regrets at that price.

well, I think it's common knowledge [at least if you post on a board like this] that free space is always lower than advertised space
but Atrix does a REALLY good job of it..2 gbs for APPS, a little more than 10 for storage, and the rest is system files/OS...
Easily the most storage I've had on a phone, dropping in my 8gb microsd from my g2x makes it feel like overkill.
then again, i have fond memories of growing up with my 300mb windows drive and getting an upgraded 1gb drive, then a few years later being SO excited when I got a celeron 266mhz tower came with a 20gb drive!!

VZW Touch Pro - 128 RAM???!!!???

The Touch Pro is now available on Verizon's site (LINK)... does anyone know if the RAM is a typo?
Memory: 512MB Flash/128MB RAM
According to the HTC site its 192MB and the word is it breaks down to 64MB of RAM that is dedicated to either O/S or graphics and 128MB for other programs...
Confirmation to follow when mine arrives tomorrow!
Verizon neutered both the Touch Diamond (lowered internal storage and added microSD slot, lowered CPU speed) and the Touch Pro (lowered memory and maybe more).
bummer deal...sounds like the Titan all over again. That's why I'm getting away from it.
They also removed the FM Radio and accelerometer.
Man do I HATE Verizon, and love being with AT&T.
Just to be clear on a few things.....
The Touch Pro from Verizon has all of the following...
192MB RAM
528MHz CPU
Accelerometer
FM Radio (although not enabled)
Also, the Diamond hasn't even been officially released so no one really knows whether it has the 4GB internal memory or not.
Personally I'd be happy if it doesn't, considering you can get a 16GB MicroSDHC card for like $30
And following the specs of the Touch Pro, i doubt the CPU is any slower either.
Alrighty, now that all the blind hate is over with, we can move on...
On an interesting note, if you use the compare function on the site, it shows 192 RAM... maybe there is hope afterall!

According to this site, you are not correct.
It was also believed that Sprint's Touch Pro had the FM Radio present but disabled, but it was quickly discovered that the hardware is physically removed from the device.
A phone company would not list the phone with 128MB RAM unless that is all it has. AT&T lists the Fuze's memory at 192MB RAM.

On the primary page of the Touch Pro they are advertising the amount of ram available after the OS and programs use the dedicated 64MB chip
And while we're at it, the Fuze has 256MB of RAM, just an FYI
if yall go to the HTC web site it tells you what the device has and whats avaiable to the user.

Ram size is 192MB (OS takes 78.71MB)

They gave it to me fore $75.00. I have a Vouge that I just got free on Friday. I saw this on Monday and had them O/N me one. I have to send teh vouge back and pay the $75.00 difference. I dont know at thgis point. I have them both for nearly 30 days so to decide. I love my vouge, dont get me wrong but this is something new I have to play with for a while ;c)
BTW: Its got 128 megs ram. Thats it. Not 192. End of discussion. If so then something is horribly amis with my phone as I only boot with about 45 megs free ;c( Very very disapointed!
Screenshot! It has less free memory than my Vouge on boot up? WTF?!?!?!?!
Ok, I honestly dont know how much memory this thing has. But the screenshot is real on a fresh boot with TF3D enabled.
so does the verizon version have the faceted back or the the same flat back as all the other cdma models

Evo 3d changing specs?

Went online last night looking for any new news on the evo 3d. I came across several websites that seem to contradict each other as far as the specs go. I came across sites stating it will have 1gb internal memory others say it is 4gb. I understand the contradiction on that due to the initial contradicting spec posts by sprint and htc and the cdma vs gsm thing. However I came across other sites that are now stating 8gb as the internal memory. No I am not mixing this up with the included 8gb memory card as it specifically stated "8gb of internal memory" and the memory card was actually listed further down the spec list. Can anyone shed light on this subject?
Sent by my evo 4g using sprint 4g network.
HTC has a sprint version /cdma that has 4gb internal with a 8gb SD card. The 1gb internal is the GSM version.
Powered by Steve Jobs' Tears and Jealousy
You are looking at the GSM version vs the CDMA version specs.
Yeah that's the info I knew to be true. I just ran across a few sites that specifically stated "8gb of internal memory" so I was just curious if there was decision to up the memory or if it was just a mistake on the sites. I felt it was worth asking since it wasn't just one site it was multiple that posted this.

But the EVO 3D has more going for it than just the 3D capabilities... it's a solid phone on it's own. With a 5MP camera (that also records 3D content), QHD screen, 1.2GHz dual core processor, 4GB of internal memory, 1GB of RAM, and a huge 1730 mAh battery, the EVO 3D is a beast of a multimedia device.

So, I ask again, post some more of your links (plural) that site odd specs and were written AFTER April 1st.
just go to HTC's USA site, and voila.

4GB eMMC / RAM 1GB
Sure would be nice if Sprint/HTC also hooked us up with a 32GB SD card like the Thunderbolt got.
Verizon charges for that sd card... They pass the cost on to the people buying the thunderbolt...
If sprint included a card, I would only buy the package deal if forced then sell the card to offset the cost on a quality 32GB class 10 like the patriot I bought at Fry's for 90$... Even so, I would rather not pay extra for a crap class 2 sd card... Rather buy the Evo as cheaply as possible.
WAIT!!!!!
I think we missed something on the htc website i haven't looked much into this since I Initially looked into the g2 another htc device which also had a 4gb emmc internal memory. but giving the fact that running at x4 was too unstable due to low voltage stability issues they partition a huge chunk at x2 "enhanced user"which almost halfed the amount of internal memory... to 2.10GB to be exact. if the same is true for te evo 3d then expect actual 2.10 GB internal memory

Two years with ATT and Aria, what next?

Hi gang,
Two years ago I was among one of the first to root my Aria (Carrier: ATT) and all has gone well with multiple updates/upgrades with the software.
Would like to ask anyone to recommend the next phone as my contract is up and ATT is doing everything it can to 'keep me in the family', inclusive of unlimited SMS and monthly service credits.
I see Sprint has an Evo V offer for 35/45/55 month with unlimited SMS/data and voice minutes 300/1200/unlimited everything
What other device do you like and would recommend with ATT? Currently they are pushing the HTC One with a new 2 year contract.
Anyone taken them up and did you root your HTC One ?
oThEr options or suggestions are welcome
I'm in the same boat, ATT with an Aria. I'm going either with the Galaxy S3 pending what it looks like in the US or the Galaxy Nexus. Thought about the One X but i dont like the fact that there is no storage expandability or you cant remove the battery.
I was in the same boat as both of you, got an Aria almost 2 years ago and decided to renew the contract and upgrade to the One X. After a week I am really happy with my decision. It is definitely the most amazing phone on the market to date.
Non-removable battery and no-micro SD slot are issues, but for me they were certainly not dealbreakers, especially when you consider what you're getting.
I get well over a working-days use out of it, and the free 20GB added to your Dropbox account is certainly very useful. That + Google Music makes it so that I really don't need any more than 10-15 GBs on my phone.
I would say if you are content with ATTs service and don't mind the minor problems that come with buying a new flagship device (basically makes you a beta tester of sorts) I would say at the very least go and try to play with a One X in the store or mess with a friends to see if you like it.
I got mine for $149.99 on Amazon pre-order, and they actually gave me another $20 credit for them not being able to change my shipping to one-day and get it to me sooner. Not bad.

I've played with the HTC One X before and I loved it, it was very smooth and sense 4.0 was awesome but the non removable battery and no expandability for storage are deal breakers for me and I don't like to rely on cloud storage. Even if it just had a micro sd slot I'd consider it more.
I vote the galaxy nexus then.
Sent from my HTC One X
I'm still quite happy with my Aria, as limited as it is, with over 2 years of use. I truly love the tiny size of it and have a hard time considering anything larger, but frankly, AT&T's service area and data speeds here SUCK, SUCK, SUCK!
I've already informed the family that there will be no more upgrades going forward until we can all move to Verizon, but that will be more than a year from now! So to appease my need for more power when I am out of the house, I will continue to use the Aria - and tether a tablet for the more hardcore stuff. By then, the One X will be 'so last year'.
Ok, enough of my whining and compensating, the One X is probably the one I would be looking at the hardest right now.
Galaxy S2 is available for 9.99 with a 2 year renewal (I got mine for 99). It's not the newest phone, but I would say it's probably the 2nd most powerful Android on AT&T, right behind the One X. It doesn't have an LTE radio though.
There are fully functional CM9 nightlies already available for it, as well as a bunch of other ROMs. It's really quite a nice phone.
I suggest the HTC Desire C.
Specs similar to the Aria, but just up a notch (same screen size, processor).
Biggest improvements are the addition of ICS and Sense 4.
If you're looking for an Aria-like phone with updated OS and more storage, I would look at this phone.
- Android 4.0 ICS with HTC Sense 4.0
- 600MHz processor, 512MB of RAM
- 3.5-inch HVGA screen
- 5-megapixel camera
- 4GB internal storage, 25GB of free Dropbox cloud storage
- Beats Audio
actually the processor is the same speed but a snapdragon process which is more advanced.
My contract was up this coming August, and I planned to spend all of July making a decision on what phone, and what provider, I would get next.
Then yesterday, the decision had to be made much faster; I dropped my Aria (the second time ever in 21 months) and cracked the digitizer. The screen is fine, and the digitizer actually still works, but I cut my finger on the glass when I unlocked it. I couldn't wait for a new digitizer to arrive, and I needed a phone yesterday, so I had to act fast.
I extended my contract with AT&T ( ) and got an HTC Vivid. At $50 with contract, the price was right. I like the phone, though it's MUCH bigger than my little Aria. Rooting is weirder, so I'm going to wait a little while 'til I'm comfortable with everything.
I'll probably fix the Aria one day, especially once the ICS builds mature. It's a great little phone!
How's this for 1 cent ? Refurb a no-no ?

I don't have problem with refurbs, I've got problems with contracts.
No problem with refurbs. I prefer them since they have been thru quality checks in refurb, so have been checked at least once. The last 3 phones I have used: Moto Razr, Aria, and Galaxy S2 have all been refurb. Never a problem with any of them. I've had the S2 for about 3 months and finally getting used to the larger size. I can read the screen in sunlight, which I could not with the Aria. Already rooted the S2, so can do as I wish about the software.
If you're looking at cheap, then get the Skyrocket. I have it and it's an amazing device. Don't get the HTC Vivid. There are literally NO developers left.
Hope to see you in the Skyrocket forums!

Dont be fooled by extreme plus micro sd's

I was browsing online today and I looked up my 64gb extreme sandisk microsd. While looking I noticed a new extreme plus version for 20 bucks less. I quickly thought extreme plus has to be better than extreme (see my logic there). Well it turns out that it is actually slower. The extreme plus has a 45mb/s read and write but the extreme has a 50mb/s write and an 80 mb/s read. Well worth the extra 20 bucks if you are dropping a hundred anyway. It is way faster than the ultra that I had. Just sayin'.

Most people wont notice the difference in read/write speeds unless they are constantly transferring movies/music to their device. Its a marketing thing. Sure they may be faster but you won't notice it when you open up your photos

I stay away from those SanDisk 64GB cards. Had two. Both died within months of owning them. Phone stopped reading em all together. Wasn't even moving files a lot or anything. Google it. Lots of people had this problem. Crappy cards.

I could say the same about Samsung cards. Never ever had a problem with sandisk, but I got my first Samsung microsd and it wasn't helping when I had to factory reset my phone a few times last week. Took card out phone stopped bootlooping. Going back to sandisk next time. They are reliable and have highest compatibility with electronics.

I recently bought a sandisk extreme 64gb(red/tan colored) and the transfer speeds are insane..it was about 120$ but we'll worth it..I would recommend it to anyone who knows the difference in transfer rates and hates lag
I also got the 80mb/s card and couldn't be happier with it.
Just a reminder that you won't see anything close to those rates in the phone since it does not support UHS-1. In an external reader is a different story. 90/60 in an external reader but only 22/18 in the N3. Still worth it to me though, since the Ultra was only getting 24/8 in the phone, and I also transferred 32GB of Blu-Ray movies using an external card reader in about 8 minutes. In the phone that would have taken about 30 minutes, or over an hour with the Ultra.

let me say this for a millionth time. just because YOU got a bad one doesn't mean ANYONE else did. there are bad batches that go out and good ones some people say i tried a few had no luck and others tried a few and did have all the luck. i have tested and both brands their both just as reliable. i have been running a 64GB Ultra from Sandisk and used as the internal memory so it was running the apps2sd script for over a year without any issues.
please for the love god stop telling people stay clear away from these guys or those guys. not just you but everyone in general.
Isn't SanDisk like one the best brands to buy for SD cards? Lol

I brought SanDisk Ultra 64 GB microSDXC Class 10 UHS-1 from amazon, did read on the forum that the note 3 currently does not take full use of the uhs-1.. and extreme is a total waste of money for using it with the n3. Instead it was better to go with the cheaper ultra. Got it for around 45 bucks for 64gb, culdnt be happier.

I've had the UHS-1 Sandisk version ever since I purchased it for my S3 2 years ago. I have been continuously using it since with no issue. Just always turn the phone completely off before inserting or removing it, and when used in a computer reader, to always tell the computer to eject that drive before removing it. Also never turn the computer on or of with the card in the reader. I have over 4,000 songs on this 64Gb card and over 10,000 photographs on it. When I got the Note 3 I just put the card into the new phone from the old phone. Then I was able to start moving apps to the SD card in each app's settings which is now available in this OS. It's never been an issue because I am so careful.

Those 64 GB card are usually slower than 32 GB... And my impression is, maybe I'm wrong, that 64 gb cards are much more risky cards. I will stick with 32 GB.

Fake.
^^ i hope not, looks great to me. and a new device by the holidays was basically assured by the CEO.
These are renders, not photos. Who knows where they came from or if they are connected with reality at all. All it takes is a little skill with Photoshop.
It looks great, too bad is not real

Looks like dual cameras and finger print sensor on uni-body/non-removable back with clean slate front.
Seems to be an obvious Nexus 5X competitor, but a lot better looking IMO. Apparently will have mid-range specs like the 5X according to early blogs.

They cant even get the invite system in order for the opt. So If they do come with another device i hope they get it better. I ordered my two on the 12th and I just got it monday....but some order on the 1st and still have no phone.
spotted benchmark and specs..
16GB and 32GB models priced between $200 and $300 according to one source and 'around $250' according to another. One mentions it'll come with micro SD card reader, so we'll see.
The device passed through the AnTuTu benchmark software and revealed that it comes with a Full HD display, likely to be around 5-inch. Other specs include an octa-core MediaTek MT6795T processor, clocked at 2.2GHz, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, micro SD card support, and a 13 megapixel main camera.

assuming there will be 16GB and 32GB versions, the 16GB could be pretty close to that in price. i'm skeptical but hopeful that this will have SD card support, but we'll see.
i hope OnePlus pays close attention to all the disappointed people about the Nexus 5X only having 2GB of RAM. if you read that forum, there's a lot of people who were set on buying the 5X until they found out about the RAM. so if OnePlus puts 3GB of RAM into this Mini phone, it'd probably sell like hotcakes.
it's stupid how some Android manufacturers are trying to clone the iPhone's 2GB RAM spec without realizing that iOS is pretty lightweight compared to Android. sure, Marshmellow is supposed to be more 'efficient', but people want to know they'll have enough RAM past next year.

Dude... I sold my HTC M9 for a "temporary" nexus 6 til the new nexus 5x came out and I too did not pre order due to disappointment! Nexus 6 is a great phone, but too big for my preference! Switched from M9 because development was weak.

I'm not sure how that will play out with the nexus 5x. I don't see why phone as that would come with 16gb and only 2gb of ram period! But I'm not sold on Android m battery improvement either. They said the same with 5.0, and I saw a big decrease in battery from KitKat. Nexus 6p looks nice but still to me the opt offers more value as I do feel like both phones are will have a strong dev community once things pick up

Right... on the OPO I always got around 6.5-7 hours on screen time, a couple times 8! Once KK hit, I only got 4-5, sometimes 3! Now, people are saying that with that preview 3 of M battery got better, so I guess we'll see when the final version of M drops for the Nexus 6 next week, I'll be sure to flash that asap.
OnePlus Mini might be announced this Monday in India:
http://www.androidcentral.com/oneplus-announce-next-big-step-india-october-12
Here are some rumors from a source claiming to have an anonymous tip:
Per this report, the OnePlus Mini / X will pack a 5-inch, 1080 x 1920 display, apparently the same as the one used with the Xiaomi Mi 4c. Given that the Mi 4c uses the ClearForce-ready Synaptics S3708 touchscreen controller, the forthcoming OnePlus device could follow suit, although full-on ClearForce support seems a tad far-fetched for a mid-ranger.
Aside from the display, the tipster believes that there'll be dual front-facing speakers and a 13-megapixel Sony IMX258 taking care of photo and video-related duties. The shooter will apparently forgo optical image stabilization (OIS), instead favoring a combination of phase-detection autofocus (PDAF) and electronic image stabilization (EIS).
Elsewhere, the OnePlus handset will offer an FM radio, NFC, IR blaster and will have removable StyleSwap covers. Despite this, the battery will apparently be fixed, in order to preserve the integrity of the device's IP67 rating and wireless charging facilities. Before now, it has been mentioned that the new OnePlus phone will be powered by a MediaTek MT6795 SoC chip. Instead, though, the company may favor Snapdragon's 801.
Completing this expansive round-up of new info, the OnePlus Mini / X may offer 2 GB of RAM, which seems perfectly reasonable for a mid-range device.
