Android presentation remote - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

clicker hardware:
I want a remote to control an android phone via a device like the targus bluetooth laser for mac. So far I've only seen software to control a pc via an android.
click for screen capture software:
So far I read screenshot er, picme, dropcap2 and ShootMe are screen capture applications for android. Which would allow use of a "hot key" to automate the screen capture of android to an automatically enumerated file in a pre-determined folder?
My whole intent is to either get a clicker or at least a bt mouse to automate a screen capture on the android to be saved to a unique file on the android sd.

I have paired that remote with my phone and it works but does not stay connected. It may be a problem with the stock Charge bt software. Maybe there is way to write a script to take a screenshot when a key from the remote is sent.

I too am desperately looking for a BT presenter for my android ICS tablet. I do presentations with my tablet and I'm sick of using my mouse for PowerPoints. Any ideas?

[Q] Remote Desktop, MHL HDMI and Bluetooth keyboard

Hi All,
My dream, one that I hope Android can help me fulfill is to hook my Galaxy S2 to a HDMI tv, fire up remote desktop and by using a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, effectively have a full desktop available.
I am yet to try hooking up my phone to a tv as I am waiting for the MHL cable, but issues I envisage are the following:
1) When the screen is mirrored on the TV, the RDP program will not use the TVs display show 'full screen'. I have installed some RDP applications and they allow you to select the resolution so perhaps this will resolve the issue
2) Are there any RDP applications that allow bluetooth keyboard and mouse entry?
This is the hold grail for me!! Many a time I have stayed in a hotel for work or holiday and not had my laptop with me and wished for such a solution. Combine this with Wake On Lan and it's perfect!
I hope someone can help!
I can't believe i'm the only one that wants something like this to work!
RDP programs should just take any inputs from your phone and pass them onto the remote machine so BT kb/m should work ok IMO. Not sure about the mirroring but if it is fullscreen on the phone then maybe the MHL cable will upscale for the TV.

I'm waiting for the cable before I can try. In fact I would have had it by now but my girlfriend wants to buy some stuff for me for my bday and I believe she's already ordered it!
I should get mine tomorrow and I'll try it out.
Thanks! I'll check back on thread!
I've been doing some reading around and have found that BT keyboards and a mouse will work no problem.
I tried my MHL cable with the Android VNC viewer app and allows you to fit to screen but does not output at the tv's native res.
I have had similar experience with Remote RDP, it just mirrors the phone's native resolution. Hopefully this kind of thing will be supported soon, including internet browsing at 1080p.
Thanks guys, that sux!
I still haven't received my cable so I can't try for myself, but have you managed to make it work to a workable output on the TV?
would be interesting if we could port some parts from the atrix (webtop) over to this phone. I actually enjoyed that feature.

Perhaps, this kind of program may help to format the resolution?
Am I missing something? If you got a bt keyboard and bt mouse and the phone to tv hdmi, don't you have it all? Why would you need a remote desktop or vnc software?
Well, you'd have it all except for USB, which you might be able to live without.

If it could pump out the full Remote Desktop resolution then you will effectively have a full desktop through your phone rather than just have the phone's software capability.
Fair enough you can surf the web and play a video but what if I want to use full excel or Word, and multi-task like on a desktop.
I've still not received my cable so I don't know whether the browsing the net with the phone's browser is legible on a big screen.
In my earlier post I complete missed off the applications name - LCD Density - haven't tried and I don't know if it's compatible with the SGSII, but sounds like it changes the native resolution of the phone.
Try Splashtop as your vnc app it is the only one to my knowledge that can stream audio almost perfect and video pretty good over vnc and works like a charm on the atrix.
Did you find a good BT keyboard that works well with the Evo? I'd prefer one with a built in trackpad, as my goal is to use this on the road (ie, airports, trains, etc), and would like to have an all-in-one keyboard/mouse.
The one thing that I haven't had time to tinker with have been HDMI goggles that can give a virtual display. Has anyone tried these w/ the Evo's mini-HDMI output?

[Q] Archos Remote Control Ripped out yet?

I don't have an Archos but I have a Galaxy 10.1, Asus Transformer, and a Galaxy S phone. I have been trying to figure out how to strap the 10.1 to a headrest and remotely play movies for my son in the back seat and I'm hoping the Archos software would be the key.
Has anyone ripped the Remote Control Server APK from this rom to be used in other tablets/phones. The controller is on the market but the server side is not
Or if someone knows a way to do this that would be great. (Note: DLNA is nice but its a full PUSH and what I want to do is control the media already on the tablet, or use the Sprint 3g on the 10.1 to stream netflix.
I have tried Server VNC for droid, and it breaks on tablets.
Thanks for all your help!
Maybe someone with an Archos and another Android device can analyze what is sended by the other device to the Archos (Wireshark for example)

I am fairly sure this is not an APK, as sin not a simple app. it is a service baked into the system code of the ROM. This kinda of app is not overtly simple to add to android even IF you had all the source to the ROM, which no one does for HC yet.
The only problem is to know what is said on the network. After that, creating the app to communicate with it is "easy".
Am i to understand that you want to stream video to Archos from your Asus/Samsung ?
No, he wants to control his expensive Samsung 101 via a remote.
Something that comes included with any cheap Archos Gen8 ;-)
Expensive
Yes, its more expensive then the Archos but its 3g via Sprint. So I can stream, check email, watch IP cameras for restaurants that I am responsible for. But when traveling with the kids its nice to put in a headrest strap and control it.
Right now my son who is 3 will either tap the screen and freak out because the movie stopped playing, or if he is holding it he ends up stuck in some app. This will allow my wife or myself to start other movies, netflix streams, etc..
Headrest monitors for cars are not cheap (unless you get some really poor generic ones) and once the kids hit 5 years old they will not want to watch a linear movie, they would want to watch and interact with the web. (Humm or maybe I'm the biggest kid in the equation )
Right now I can DLNA push a video to the tablet using BubblePNP (Works great) but its annoying when my phone wifi sleeps or phone calls seem to mess with the connection. Remote control will keep each device truly separate. How many times I have walked out of the car to get gas out of range of the DLNA sharing is annoying.
Here you go...
I Hope this is what you are looking for...
Ripped out...Have Fun!
He doesn't need the remote, he needs the receiver for the Samsung.
I saw the words "remote" and "software" in the OP.
Yes, but he's searching the server side of the remote software ^^
Looks like the best way to get the Archos remote server app is to unpack Archo's firmware and take the server app out.
I found some linux tools that can do this, e.g. using aos-tools
However, my linux skill is only novice level at best, so I don't think I can unpack it successfully and find the remote server app.
Anyone happy to give it a try and share the file?
I see the instructions to unpack can be found here: http://archos.g3nius.org/index.php?title=The_aos-tools_Toolchain
I was looking for such app and Archos seems to the the only company which have a Android remote app right now... I am interested to install the remote server app on my Android phone or tablet and see if it works.
for control the tablet from an android phone you can use DroidMote Server / Client in the android market.

Tablet Remote (control vid players or provide virtual gamepad via secondary Android)

With the Prime being a multi media power house it's very conceivable many of us will hook the Prime up to various TVs to watch our media. Walking up to the tablet to control DicePlayer or whatever media player we use isn't very convenient.
Here's a free app I found that provides a solution to this scenario (and also works as a virtual gamepad) that I'd thought I'd bring to people's attention:
Tablet Remote:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.tournesol.tabletremote
Visit the market link above for a more verbose description of how it works with screenshots. The gist is you download the app to both your phone and tablet and pair them up using Bluetooth. On the tablet it installs a software keyboard that you enable/activate. Once both devices are paired control commands are sent through the easy to use phone UI to the soft keyboard on the tablet via Bluetooth.
Thanks I will try this with my evo3d when my prime comes today.

Bump because the app was just updated today to add connectivity between Android devices via WiFi.

[Q] use one Android as mouse/keyboard for another?

Hi! I know that there are apps to let an Android device serve as a mouse and keyboard for a PC or Mac. But is there anything to let an Android device do the same thing for another Android device? I feel like someone must have done this, but I can't find such an app. (I'm interested in getting an Android HDMI stick PC to use with my TV, and I'd much rather control it with another Android than with a keyboard and mouse.)
I found one app, Tablet Remote, which does _much_ of what I'm looking for, but it doesn't actually act as a mouse (instead just giving you arrows to move the selection point), which means that there's no way via Tablet Remote to do lots of basic things that require key taps.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Alan

Ideas for an information board

My goal here is to make an EASY to use display for people be able to read DOC, PDF, XLS files.
Here is what I want to use:
1. Rikomagic MK802 III
2. Logitech T650 touchpad
3. 1080P 52" LG TV. (We already own this)
4. Office/PDF app such as: Kingsoft Office, or Easy PDF reader
I plan to connect the MK802 to the tv then install the touch pad (in the available USB slot) and have people use the touchpad to "flip" through files.
In my mind it seems simple enough but some questions I have are:
A. Does anyone know a way to lock android into a "demo mode" of sorts. Where only one app is accessible and the screen stays on?
B. Has anyone used the logitech touchpad T650?
C. Any better app suggestions? Keeping in mind easy is the key.
Just found a cool app that will take care of the demo mode that I want:
KioWare Kiosk Mode Software
On the MK808 custom software, you can disable the navigation keys... essentially keeping from anyone escaping. It is possible to bring back the navigation and exit but not at first glance...
Not sure how you could do this. Maybe a tasker sequence to check if XYZ app is running else launch XYZ. So even if someone did exit, it would relaunch.
Combination of both?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
did it work?
Hi, did the Logitech Touchpad work?
I tried the newest MK 802 (8G, bluetooth) with Apple Magic Trackpad and it did not work - no mouse movements, no clicks.
This might be of use to you, Smart Protector. I've used it in conjunction with launchers that can hide icons to stop anyone from messing about with the setup.
