[Q] Folio 100 replacement LCD - Folio 100 Accessories

Somehow I managed to break the screen on my Folio 100.
I want to at least try and replace the screen(which according to what I've read and seen shouldn't be too difficult).
It uses the N101L6-L0D screen from Chi Mei Optoelectronics, if you google "N101L6-L0D specs" the first link to appear should be a .pdf with all the technical specs of the LCD.
Based on the specs on the .pdf could you recommend a superior screen that would work on it, the Folio 100 LCD is annoying, you have to either hold it directly at your face or upside down to not get that annoying color change.
And please don't reply with "Just buy a new tablet" like I see so many others do, that's not what I asked for.

Here in Iceland I bought my Folio for 70.000 ISK, it will cost me around 15.000 ISK to repair the screen, I like my Folio, I replaced the Android 2.2 with 3.0, giving me the android market which made the tablet 10x more useful.
So I'd like to salvage this thing.

First I must say I have no experience with these sellers or their products. Use Paypal so you get protection from being scammed.
If you search for "Toshiba Folio" on eBay you get a list of stuff related to the Folio, and among them are two Italian sellers selling screens for the Folio.
I'm not allowed to post direct links, but if you search make sure you do a worldwide search. I think their listings are done on eBay Italy.
You could try asking them about the quality of the screens. The price is reasonable.

i have one lcd for toshishiba folio do you want buy it?

Toshiba don't care

Hey everybody,
I decided to make a topic to show all the problem we have with the Folio 100 (maybe Toshiba gonne check)
10 Reasons to give back your own Folio 100 or don't buy it
1- The display on the Folio 100 is lowcost, you can found the same on clone phone in China ! poor quality, screen TN (not IPS, Amoled, Super LCD or other), The touchscreen on it can give you some trouble in the future
2-Toshiba don't support the Folio 100, the forum Folio 100 on the official website Toshiba was deleted !
3- When you have a problem with the Folio 100 is really complicate to bring a repair on it, Toshiba have a poor quality service for that
4- The price ! even though the Folio 100 look like cheaper, not really, when you know Apple give you a better stuff for 100 more, with a good support, offer to you a exchange if your iPad have a problem, etc... but i don't talk about all the stuff we have on Folio 100 (HDMI, USB, SDCARD, WEBCAM) <- this are useless if you can't use your Folio 100 ! actually Apple Win, Samsung Win with the Galaxy Tab, Dell Win with the Streak
5- The quality of the cover is so cheap !! you can broke so fast your Folio 100, the 4 tactile buttons is so anoying...
6- What the hell where is the good support of Android in here ?... many games are not compatible, the Toshiba Market place have more Wallpaper than Apps and Toshiba don't give any sources to help the customers
8- The Folio 200 is coming with a better screen, better support, honeycomb, better cover etc... have a sense to take the old Folio ?...
9- The charger, did you see how big the charger is it ?... bigger than the tablet and have some problem when you try to charge the Folio...
10- You need to do all by yourself if you want to make something good on it... the Folio 100 is a Puzzle made in Toshiba, but you don't have all the pieces of the Puzzle...
I'm sorry, but i use every something possible on it, i sent back my folio and i don't know if i go take a new one or wait for something else
But have some good idea on it, HDMI, USB, SDCARD, Mini USB etc... i feel uncomfortable when i see all that, because Toshiba have a good product but they release that too fast and like a prototype more than a final product
Now what offer we have ?
Wait the FOLIO 200 or XOOM or what ??...
Completely agree
sent from my folio 100 using tapatalk
The only real big issue I see with the Folio 100 since I bought it months ago is the screen.
Not even the poor quality screen, but the fact that the touchscreen just is not responding on the lower part because Toshiba wasn't able to put all parts properly under the screen, so the screen is pulled out of the cover making the screen unresponsive.
Whenever screen isn't responding I have to press back the glass in the cover. That's absolutely crap. Every cheap China-Phone is built better !
Hardware wise it's ok. But that's because of Nvidia's Tegra2 Chip.
Whatever Toshiba did on the Folio is pure crap and I deeply regret that I thought Toshiba is a good quality company.... my fault.
Well anyway i decided to take another one
Why ?
Because i love the challenge, if i need to work to make this Folio 100 work better, i will.
Because of the Tegra 2 chip, USB, HDMI, SD Card, Webcam etc...
I still think all what i said before but actually i don't see any another tablet can give a lot of stuff for this price, i have this tablet and the cashback 70euros.
I don't want to wait for the Folio 200 (the reason is Toshiba don't support the old Folio and i don't support the next Folio)
I heard from a friend, the Folio 200 is Folio 100 with a better screen, new cover and more ram... but the rest, both use exactly the same source of Android.
I try to do my best to help the community Folio 100
I want to say something to Toshiba, Toshiba if you read this, please take care of your customers and give the best of your company, i know you can do better, give better sources for the Folio 100 and the possibility to exploit better this one with honeycomb, please do it...
We actually do the job that you should be doing
Toshiba should acknowledge they created a inferior product an should offer all folio 100 ownersa refund or give them a 200 with a major discount. They are neglecting their buyers and throwing away their name as a decent tech manufacturer. Shame on them!

I know they can do that, don't have that many Folio 100 sold, anyway i think Toshiba needs to make a major update for the Folio 100 and this one can run better, they need to give the source of the bootloader too.. etc to fix some problems.
The Folio 100 is still a Tegra 2 tablet and i still think, this can offer more than we have and the actual android we have can't exploit correctly the Folio 100, i was checking many stuff on the Folio 100 and apparently the Tegra 2 chip on it go faster than the XOOM ! the XOOM have a Tegra 2 chip undercloked and the Folio 100 no, we don't use the dualcore either and not really the GPU ! remember that
When i see Dexter make the Dextermod, i can imagine the Toshiba Folio Team make something strong and good
Toshiba don't really see the big picture!
It's not about loose some hundred or thousand of potential buyers, it's all about harming their reputation. Customers can handle some low specs of even some bugs, but build quality and support are points were reputation is hard to regained. It will affect their sales, and no just tablets, but all other products.

It's Toshiba make some stuff for Apple product and actually Toshiba have problem in Japan, i can understand this, it's difficult at this time to ask any help from Toshiba.
Anyway if everybody try to contact Toshiba and explain the problem we have and ask for a better support, they can help us.
You can read this on the website Toshiba
Due to the aftermath of the recent earthquake in Japan, we might take some time to respond to your inquiries.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused to you in this matter.

Folio 100 is not really a bad product itself.
The only problems are the firmware and the lack of good applications in Toshiba Market.
Whe have probed that Folio can run most of the latest Android applications with good performace.
All that Toshiba have to do is to release a god firware and include better apps in its market.
If they can't do this for the Folio then they will not be able to do this for their next tablet.
But their real problem now is the earthquake...

New screen hangs

Hi, I'm Martin from Germany
That's the story:
I've (already ) broke the display of my HTC Mozart after 2 months of usage ordered a new one at mobile-phone-lcd.com. The replacement itself took me about two hours, where the longest part was the removal of the "old" glue which is used to keep the screen in its housing.
But now the reaction of the screen is very bad It's 1. the typical "lockscreen problem" but 2. the menu often scrolls "up" when i push the screen down. And I'm unable to write messages because I can't touch some letters.
But I have to note that starting from the point when i broke my old screen, the phone "already" had the "lockscreen problem" and a few letters were not touchable.
With the new screen the "touchability" is worse than with the broken screen.
I already flashed it with RUU_Mozart_HTC_Europe_1.30.401.01_5.54.09.21_22.33b.50 but nothing changed. I just wrote an email to the seller but somehow I can't believe that's a harware-related problem. I already tried to run it with different positions of the cable in the plug... no success
Maybe anyone of you has similar experiences or any ideas how to fix it. Tomorrow I'll try to flash it with another ROM.
Cheers
Martin
It really seems an issue with the new screen, a bad device or both...
I don't think you can repair it playing with the ROM...
Thanks.
Let's see what the supplier says...
first of all you info was not clear, when you mention screen, is' it the LCD or the digitizer, it's two different pieces, it seems like the problem is the digitizer.
You're right, the problem is the digitizer.
The support-team already answered and needs a more detailed description. (I wrote a very short email) The guy answered that I should try a touch screen calibration! I've already searched for a way to calibrate the touch screen/digitizer, but I wasn't successful. Does anyone of you knows how to?
In parallel I'm bidding on a HTC Mozart on eBay which is water damaged so I can try another digitizer. (hope the digitizer is still working...)
how much is it going to cost, i've seen oem digitizer in china go for around USD 30.
also no touch calibration will do any good, the digitizer has some dead section, from your description.
Mine was 38 USD without shipping costs
Currently the damaged WP7 is @ 30 USD....
You're right. Where have you seen the digitizer? Could you provide the link to me?

Anybody know OEM for Archos 80 G9 screen?

Does anybody know what oem screen the 80 g9 uses? My girlfriend dropped her tablet and if they don't cover it under warranty I am confident I can replace the screen, I just need to know where to find one. I went to Ali Baba, and all I could find were complete tablets. A google search turned up nill as well. Has anybody had their tablet apart and noted the serial for their screen? I don't want to crack it open just yet because we may be sending it in for a repair but if they won't do it for free I'd love to be able to find one on my own. Thank you for your time.

Hi, I know of no OEM manufacturers, however I am considering selling/scrapping my tablet for parts. The screen is in perfect condition. How much are you looking to pay?

Is it a turbo? Because if it's a turbo the screen may draw too much power or might require more ram than my poor little bugger has. I understand that the turbos ship with a brighter higher resolution screen but it might be here-say.
What's the problem with your tablet is it bricked or are you just tired of having it?
The oem manufacturer for the screens in the 80 g9 are innolux, however I can't find where to buy them wholesale.
Customer service is atrocious and only want to have my girlfriend spend $120 to send it in and have their techs replace the screen. I don't see why they can't just tell me where I can get the screen myself. Or offer to sell me the part, considering they'd make more money selling me the part with shipping than paying the poor bastard to replace the screen but oh well.
I'm currently in a bidding war on Ebay on a tablet but I'd be more than happy if you could pm me what you want for the tablet.
Also sorry for the delayed response, I'm having trouble setting up this forum to notify me when there is a comment on the thread.

Yes, i have the turbo. 80G9. My girlfriend bumped it while it was charging on a table, it hit the floor screen up and landed on carpet. It only fell about 3 feet, but with the short heavy USB cable and cheap connector point, the micro-USB port snapped right off. Everything else is in tact, and it still turns on, the charger is the only issue. I did take the case apart to see if I could solder it back on, however it has 3 tiny mount points, and I dont think i have the equipment or skills to do that. It still turns on with the screen unclamped (every cord is plugged in) but it only has about 8% battery in it, so I'm gonna save that to either wipe the hard drive from recovery, or sell it for parts.
I'm not sure if the screen requires more power. Do you know if it actually does or not? I had the 1ghz version and the turbo doesn't appear to be any brighter.
Hey Shano I pm'd you.
I sent u another PM, message me back if u get it..
I need HELP!
Hey guys! I need to replace my broken screen from my Archos 80 G9 turbo HDD. How and where to find a new one? Could you help me? Please!!!! :crying:

Where to buy new LCD Panel?

Somehow my LCD panel cracked today, split right in half so I no longer have a display. Where can I buy a good quality replacement aside from the probable junk ones from China on ebay?

I'm not sure why you think it's junk. Almost sure you know very little about the manufacturing process of the so-called "quality" LCDs. Even less about where the "junk" comes from and how it gets into the Chinese hands (Hint: Made in China). Open your device and look for something fabricated elsewhere. There are some stores in the States, but they do not differ in terms of quality because they come from the same source. You can try Asus. But if your original lcd is any indication, it probably came from the same guy in China too. That's why it cracked for no good reason. Your pick. Same lcd from Asus for a premium, from some guy in Ohio for $100.00+, or the vicinity of L.A. for a little more than half of it (stores mostly owned and maintained by- you guessed it - Chinese who call themselves David, Michael, Tom, and even Jerry.

Didn't really appreciate how you subliminally condescended my level of intelligence and the fact that knockoff crap comes from factories overseas every day in an attempt to make a buck compared to products that are made to a higher standard of QC. Regardless, though, the screen (yes, ONE) I found here in America was priced at $220, while the China ones are all between $60 and $90, but for some odd reason every China/Japan seller has their accounts saying that they're all away until Feb 16, 2013. So, I'm in quite a bind... pay $220 for probably the same screen that I can get form China for less than half, or wait 3-6 weeks for a screen from China. Sad part about it is that every China screen I found on EBay all have the exact same description, so it appears to be one seller using multiple accounts. So, it's not like choosing to order from one seller will get the screen faster than choosing it from a different seller. Pretty ugly position I am stuck in, if you ask me.
Bottom line is, I'm sure there are more screen suppliers than the two on EBay. Does anyone have a good source that's sold them quality parts before, that also carries the screen for the TF300T?

They're closed until Feb 16 due to the lunar new year Festivities. Don't mean to be condescending, neither this nor last time. But you are really poorly informed - which shouldn't be confused with intelligence. Knockoff crap!? I don't think a couple of Chinese peasants can just get together on a whim to set up an lcd factory in their stable so they can export their product overseas and make a little extra. I said what I said 'cause if you get one and look closely at the "Asus" logo on the glass, you'll understand. Here, they sell for 4 times as much because it's legal to gouge the public. Now, shipping time is always less in my experience (10-15 days). They say 3-6 weeks because they don't want to raise false expectations, knowing quite well how "patient" we in the West are. What with all the "time is money" talks, you see what I'm driving at... Laptopscreen.com sells them, but is currently out of stock I think. Plus they charge for shipping.

I found one at a seemingly reasonable price of $99.95 at phonepartsusa.com
checked their reviews around the web and overall customers seem satisfied, so we'll see how it goes.
So, I gutted my tablet to verify that the screen on the site below is the one I need, and boom, its already wrong. The frame holding the screen is different, so I half wonder if the screen will even work in my tablet. Back to hunting! (laptopscreen.com is out of stock as you said they were)

I bought one from China to replace mine which cracked upon impact. Works quite well. Not trying to convince you but it's more a question of how you handle the repair than the component itself as no one I know on XDA has had any problem with purchases anywhere, China included. Touchscreen mechanism, yes, but not LCD display. The Touchscreen daughterboard is particularly prone to failure, which leads one to believe it's more how you go about repairing it than the quality of the glass itself. Delicate work, as you can damage any component easily. But good luck (the word "gutted" intrigues me).
Very interesting topic. Care to make a video of the steps taken to replace your screen once you locate one? It would be greatly appreciated. Thx:good:

In need of Original LCD

Skip the sob story if you don't care.
So, I finally got everything situated with my phone in terms of restoring it's original quality. Yay, until i decided to test out the waterproofing on the new adhesive I got. To skip to the point, I did a stoopid and had to order a replacement LCD on Ebay.
As some of you may know, (I barely found out the hard way) Ebay doesn't exactly have the most reputable sellers when to comes to our phone and displays. (watch out, they'll get yah. I simply don;t trust ebay anymore) So, for 50 bucks I got a horrendous display which pixels bleed whenever a photo pops up. Being a stoopid monkey that I am, I decided it was bearable. Until i got worse and the display is unusable.
(end sob story)
In conclusion, I need an LCD yo!!! I was considering getting a Z5, but it be so expensive. I'm willing shell out a hundred or so for a LEGIT screen replacement. (maybe one of those who have moved on to another phone is willing to sell) (I hope asking for this doesn't go against any rules) Or even better, direct me to a legitimate site that does provide original Z3v displays. Because for the life of me, my Googling has turned up nothing. Appreciate the help.
Yeah. I need new LCD to, but dont know which should i buy.
I broke my screen second time in one year, this time i want to replace it by myself...
you can try to use l50u screen
