[BRICK][BOUNTY] Help me unbrick my X10a! - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So apparently no one on here wants to help me unbrick my X10a for free so now I am going to offer money, no specific dollar amount until someone can get it working again, even if it's only for a short period of time. The link to my original thread is linked above, whoever gets it working can request the amount they think it was worth spending their time. Good luck, for both of us. I have seen several others with this same problem, if they would like to join in the bounty for us, and future bricks, feel free to leave a post of PM me.

I only skimmed over your last thread so let me ask a few questions.
Flashtool doesn't work at all?
So what version flashtool do you have and has it worked previously?
Did you unlock your bootloader?
When you connect to flashtool do you keep the back button held the WHOLE time?
EDIT:
Read your thread. Looking at the flashtool screenshot it looks very similar to an error i was having at one point. Even tough i had the drivers installed they didn't want to play nice. I downloaded Flashtool 0.2.9.1 and reinstalled drivers. When in flash mode i seemed to HAVE to hold the back button down the whole time.

I have tried it both ways, to hold it the entire time, or until I get the error, and let go as soon as it starts flashing. Both have the same end result of the aborting of the flash. Also, I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers several times as well as used Gordon's reset usb ids everytime I try.

Are you sure you have a stable connection with your data cable?!! (USB port and cable work fine, not lose or something!!)

Question: The Green Led (the light that comes "on" while you're in flash mode) goes off while you are flashing?

Sorry all, lost my isp for a bit. Yeah, I'm sure about the USB connection. I have gone as far as to taping it down to make sure it doesn't move. lol. And when flashing, the light does stay on but there have been times where the light goes off half way through despite not being moved since it initialized connection.

What where you running?? Did you try seus???

Okay i had your error message too a few times here is what i did i re installed the x10 drivers it was included in flashtool then i flashed stock 2.1 it worked like a charm !

Try this:
1- uninstall pcc and seus
2- run some aplication to clean the registry of the computer.
3- install again pcc and seus
4- connect your phone and let PC to install the drivers automatically.
5- use flashtool to flash a firmware designed for you baseband. Try android 2.1 first to test it.
If it still doesn't work try to do all in a computer with another windows version. Sometimes Windows 7 give a little problem to install drivers.
One computer that has never been used for this is excellent because there is no conflicts between applications and drivers

Also turn off UAC (user access control).
Don't know if this will help too but have the latest version of Java installed.

Similar problem
So did your X10 work?
I am having the following problem:
Mistakenly wiped everything using xrecovery, even system.
Now no computer recognizes device (10 different systems with XP, Vista, 7)
unable to boot into flash, stuck at SE logo,
already tried different versions of flashtool, tried all the drivers including gordon gate, android drivers, pcc and seus but device still not recognized
Now is my X10 bricked or what!
Any hope anybody?

Reinstall Windows and then:
1. Download the latest PC Companion from SE site.
2. Install it on your PC then open the programm and choose the "update service" there.
3. Then you'll find there a phrase saying "repair phone".
4. Then only follow the instructions of PC Companion to repair your phone.
And ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS read FAQs, Guides, and Tutorials.

Format PC and install SEUS and PC Comp....
Disable UAC in windows 7
Restart PC
Follow procedure for flashing, with Flashtool 0.2.9.1...
Wait for drivers to be installed (must have internet connection)
Use Stock 2.1 Firmware file first!
Run it As Administrator
Change USB Cable, take shorter one and plug in in the back of PC (directly on motherboard)...

I had already tried pcc but I tried again as you said.
Formatted new PC with windows 7, turned UAC off.
Downloaded new pcc and ran the program.
After hitting the update link it says to connect the usb cable but after connecting usb cable it does not install the drivers. It says to disconnect and reconnect if nothing happens for 30 seconds so I did that and upon connecting usb cable it says unable to connect to the phone. I think the phone repair link is after the phone is connected to pcc but I can't connect to pcc.
And how do I connect the usb cable directly to the motherboard? Do you mean to open my desktop cabinet and locate the usb port on the motherboard, disconnect the already connected back and frontpanel usb headers and then connect the usb cable to the usb header on the motherboard?
Also tried flashtool 0.2.9.1 but no success, keeps trying to connect but to no avail.

I tried SEUS awhile ago, it's in the original post. I have uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them several times as well as uninstalling Windows drivers and only using Gordon's drivers and that did not work. I taped the back button down on the device but that still did not work. I'm at a loss...

About installing the drivers, how about this:
Download the standalone drivers: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=U2PY6QOR and read these instructions provided from SE Support:
First, it is important to install drivers properly.
Start with the SEMC drivers.
When X10 is connected to the computer you should use ADB for X10 not ADB that comes with Googles SDK since it is not compatible with X10, yet. Use ADB for X10 included in attatchment, and write adb devices.
If you get something like CBxxxxxxxx then ADB works with X10. To kill old ADB server you can use adb kill-server command.
Good luck
(Note: i found this info over the net, it's kinda old, May 2010 but may works, who knows!)
Another option to install the drivers is to download and install this software: http://www.mediafire.com/?pq0idzzyasmzui0 This is the Unlock Software provided from cellunlocker.net which i used to unlock my X10, it has the option to install the drivers for you on the software folders (in windows start menu).
Try again after installing these, specially the second option (Unlock Client), who knows, maybe you'll get lucky!
Hope this helps!

How bout this. Start fresh from another PC.
Sent from my Sensation using xda premium

I have updated everything, I have actually started fresh from my Laptop to see if it had something to do with my home PC but it does the same thing. As far as ADB goes, you cannot access ADB if the phone is net set to debugging mode, adb will not recognize the phone, even in flash mode.

Will you can try this it has worked for a few others and if it does work JUST the thanks button is good for me. And just Be Patient go slow and it will get fixed if it's not already. And after you get it working then you can update too what ever Rom you wont.

Installing X10i drivers on Windows 7 help

Need a little help setting up my dev environment on Windows 7.
I had it working perfectly on my old PC running XP. I have since bought a laptop with 7 and am trying to set up a dev environment on it but am having issues with the drivers (at least as far as I can tell).
I have:
Android SDK installed - including all available components
Java 1.6 SDK and JRE installed - environment variable is set
SEUS and PC Companion installed
Rooted my phone to 026 using the original method - done on old machine
USB Debugging switched on on my phone
When connecting my phone, I get no option to install the driver. My SDCard also automatically mounts itself, which i'm not sure if that's related to my issue. Any ideas how to stop it from doing that?
When I try to update the driver software via Device Manager (browse to <sdkdir>\USB_DRIVER), I get 'Windows could not find driver software for your device'.
I've read through a few threads, particularly the rooting issues thread, and googled it in quite a few different ways with no luck. The closest I could find is XperiaX10iUser's post in this thread. Running USBDeview as mentioned, i can only see 'SEMC Flash Device' and 'Sony Ericsson X10i' that would be relevant. However, when I try to uninstall selected devices it does nothing (no error, just doesn't uninstall).
Running 'adb devices' returns a list of devices with nothing in it.
Any help/ideas would be much appreciated as i'm going insane here!
Are u maybe running 64bit win7?

Uninstall your Java and start from scratch using the 32bit versions of Java, and run USBDeview without the phone plugged in if you haven't done already.
Yes, I'm running 64bit Win 7.

I installed 32bit Java (1.6.0_20) and reinstalled all the Android SDK components. No change in symptoms.
I have run USBDeview with the phone plugged in and without.
i'm running win7 x64 and it works normally.
another day i tried install a theme (without have seus or pccompanion installed on my pc) and i had the same problem. after i installed pccompanion, it worked normally.
remember that you must have usb debugging on, to adb devices show your phone.

I definitely have USB Debugging on and PC Companion installed.
Where do the drivers for the X10i actually come from? The phone, SDK Drivers component, SEUS or PC Companion?
What am I missing?
Does anyone else's SDCard mount itself when plugging the phone in? It didn't do this on my old machine.
EDIT: I was able to remove USB devices using USBDeview. Just need to right-click and 'Run as administrator' (which is odd given that my user is admin). Didn't help me installing the driver though. Still can't find anything when pointing to <sdkdir>\USB_DRIVER.
My <sdkdir> is C:\Android\SDK. It shouldn't matter that it's not the default path should it?
EDIT2: Apparently, DoubleTwist has an auto USB mount option. Doesn't make a difference to the driver issue though.

SEMC device message and upgradation to Android 2.1 on Xperia X10 fails

While trying to upgrade my Xperia X10i from Android 1.6 to 2.1 at one stage when I press and hold the back button while connecting the USB cable to the phone a message appears on computer screen saying "New hardware found" "SEMC flash device" and the computer (running on windows XP) hangs. This is happening again and again and preventing me to upgrade to Android 2.1. I need help in following areas:
1. How to install the SEMC flash driver (and of course where to find it)
2. How can I proceed further to update my phone to Android 2.1
3. Any link of youtube showing the installation of SEMC flash driver
My phone info is as following:
Model: X10i
Country: Android rest of Africa (b)
Brand: Customized ARO
Sony Ericsson PC companion is showing availability of new update (Android 2.1) but the above mentioned error is not letting me complete the installation process. I'm using this phone in Pakistan.
Urgent help/ guidance would be highly appreciated.

I'm new to smartphones, therefore, have little knowledge of technicalities. I'll greatly appreciate if someone please gives some step by step procedure with regard to solving the above mentioned issue.
Today I tried the command: menu back back menu back menu menu back and in the "security" settings and found this:
Version Label:
R1C003
CERT Status:
SEMC [Key OK] [Active]
VIACCESS [Key OK] [Deactive]
MARLIN [Key OK] [Deactive]
SEMC key is active and this is probably the cause of freezing computer and not letting Android 2.1 install. But I'm not sure. Any one who understands these settings please confirm if this is the cause. And if yes then how to 'deactivate' the SEMC key.

No, I believe that this means that the SEMC KEY -- the BACK BUTTON is active, meaning it can be used. The Back button is the only way to activate flash mode when the PC recognizes the phone as a SEMC device.
SEUS says that the min requirement is a P4 3.6Ghz processor, and that if the software doesn't recognize the phone in 3-6 seconds, you have to try it again by using the back button on the software so that it won't lock up.

I've changed USB port of computer and also set the phone to factory default settings but no progress. I have tried Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS) and PC Companion both but no success. See the couple of threads in this section, but you will need flash mode to use them, and SEUS as well so getting that sorted should be your first concern.

You can find the threads in this section for getting 2.1, your computer hanging is a different issue however. I don't have XP so maybe someone else that does can help you with that.
Hey, I had the same problem as you..
fyi: I'll be using SEUS and "Update Service" interchangeably
1. google "se update service x10", the first result should be the sonyerricson website. The page there is the download page for SEUS.
2. Download and install 'Update Service' (~35.3MB file).
3. Backup your phone data first.
4. Run SEUS and follow the onscreen instructions. I don't quite remember the exact steps, but it should be something like:
4a. Turn of phone, wait at least 30 secs.
4b. Plug in USB to phone.
4c. Hold 'Back' button on phone
4d. Plug in USB to PC.
5. SEUS should detect your phone and look for updated firmware. But it should also install your SEMC usb drivers that you need for the flash tool.
When I did the above, it didn't find any firmware updates for my phone, so I could just exit SEUS and use the 2.1 flasher in the other posts.

I've already tried Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS) and PC Companion as I mentioned in my earlier posts above but no success. Please shed some light on 2.1 flasher which u have mentioned. Also, I would appreciate if you could tell me how you resolved your issue. I'm not good at technicalities so I hope you would explain me things in simpler words.
so the 2.1 flash I mentioned won't help your case right now, since you are still stuck at the 'New Hardware Found'.
I just reread your posts, and your computer hangs (ie.freezes?) when you plug in the device?
You will probably need to do the update on a newer (ie. better) computer... can you borrow a friend's computer? If your computer isn't hanging when you plug the device, then everything else will work out. So get your hanging computer issue resolved first.
I think it is a major problem with your pc if the drivers cannot be installed.
At least one try is NOT TO RELEASE THE BACK BUTTON when Seus trys to detect your phone.
If all don't work your XP might be ****ed up and needs a fresh install at all.
If you are not willing to reinstall XP just try to get handson another PC to flash your phone
Also be sure all VirusScanners and Firewalls etc are shut off!
Regards
I've tried at least two desktop computers (both running on Windows XP) and both hang as soon as they find new hardware (only in case of Xperia X10). I tried other hardwares like Printer and another phone Sony Ericsson K750i. Surprisingly both worked perfectly well and drivers were also installed. I think I should give Xperia X10 a try on a laptop now. See what happens.
Issue has been resolved. I installed USB Flash Driver before opening SEUS and going for update. And when driver was successfully installed then I restarted the computer and then upgraded my Xperia X10i by using Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS). Now, I'm having Android 2.1 which is working perfectly well. Thanks for your precious suggestion, friends.
Hi coldbird,
can I ask where did you get the drivers?
I checked the S-E site and it says there that the newest drivers are included in Sony Ericsson PC Companion 2.0
If I attach the X10 before opening PC Companion, then after a short while the Companion opens anyway.
I have disabled Kaspersky because I read somewhere that it can cause issues.
I still have not been able to update my friends X10.
Any advice welcomed.

Thank you for sharing the tip. It works for me too.
1) Installed the flash driver first by connecting the phone (switched off) to the pc while holding the back key button.
2) Once the driver successfully installed. Restart the pc. Switched on the phone.
3) Open the Sony Companion app and connect the phone.

X10i Wont recognise Any PC ?!?

Hey guys,
I have been looking evryone for this problem and cant find the solution, hell i even asked my Provider but they couldnt help me either.
In a nutshell my X10i (Android 1.6 Vodafone) Wont recognize my PC (windows Vista latest, 32 Bit).
I plug in the USB cable and it wont show a usb connected in the notification bar, however the notification light turns green.
When i try to connect my device to PC Companion it wont register the phone or locate its there.
I even tried to update the phone using SEUS but it wouldnt recognise it whilst in the "hold back" menu.
I have already tried these but they havent solved the problem;
-uninstall SEUS and PC Companion
-Reinstall SEUS and PC Companion
-change USB ports
-Change USB cable
-Checked and Unchecked USB Debugging
-change computer (still no help)
-I cant find anything in device manager
The problem seemed to have arisen when i reflashed the phone, using SEUS Repair, because i had forgotten the patern lock.
I really want to flash Official 2.1 or the AOSP rom!!!
Any solutions?
Thanks in Advance
EDIT: Everything else works fine in the phone

try rooting it with super one click or zroot(somethinng like that).
Yo.. let me explain something.
When i rooted and downgraded the kernel it used the old ADB drivers.
When i upgraded it required the new ADB drivers.
Maybe that is your issue.
flash the generic SE firmware with flashTool. It should work...
turn off phone - take out battery - press back key - insert usb - insert battery.
That should do the trick. Then Flashtool to stock
I probably have used this method 50 times the past 2 days trying to upgrade to GB. Always flashes ok but phone wont boot. Finally gave up and stayed with 2.1 and upgraded to MIUI. So it aint dead yet, just injured LOL
2 different computers won't recognize the phone, I can't flash with flashtool! It goes into flag mode but flashtooldoesnt recognize the phone. Somebody know how to manually install drivers?
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App

[Q] Vibrant soft bricked, can get to download mode, windows doesn't recognize device.

People!, I'm about to pull all my hair out on this one
Vibrant is soft bricked in a boot loop after a incomplete flash, I am able to get it into download mode but both my windows machines say USB device isnot recognized, and thus, I cant use ODIN to return to stock. When I try to manually point windows to the samsung drivers I get nothing…
So far I have tried drivers from:
-Bay_wolf's AIO Vibrant Toolbox 2.5
-USB drivers for vibrant from samsung support site
-Drivers from samsung keyes
Side notes that might help: I was perviously using a Hellybean Rom. My device displays "Galaxy S gt-9000" on boot... not sure when that came to be but maybe some rom changed some important recognition stuff??...
I found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1008383 but no help...
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Try a different USB cable. This happens more than you'd think. Even cables that have worked just fine hundreds of times.
Also.... Locate the drivers in system/device manager and delete them manually and try to install them again. Unplug device and install fresh ones from either aio toolbox or Kies, then plug phone back in.
Best of luck!

Thanks a ton for reply but, sadly, no dice.
Tried connecting the phone, getting the "unrecognized device" prompt, finding "unknown device" in device manager, right clicking to uninstall. rebooting my machine, using various install methods to re-install drivers, re-connecting, and nothing.. same issue...
I lost the original cable a while back, but can't accept that NONE of the other 5 cables used are all broke... specially if the computer recognizes something going on... is it worth buying a new one?
Losing hope here, been like this for 4 days now, think it's time to go get a new phone. :crying:
Even so, it would have been nice to get what was a perfectly working phone back if only to keep it as a mp3 payer.
If anybody in New York, NY has a working odin set up that can do this for me, I have a 6 pack of your favorite beer with your name on it.
It could be a hardbrick such as bootloader getting corrupted that happened to my Sony Xperia Play (now an expensive paper weight).
I assume you boot into download mode by holding the two volume buttons, then connect the cable? Have you tried on a different PC? It can also be the weak powered USB port on the PC. Also when you uninstall the Samsung driver, check the option to also delete USB driver and uninstall any drivers. Also which version of the driver are you using, have you tried version Samsung USB Driver 1.5.3? And the drivers from here: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SGH-T959ZKATMB#
For what its worth, the gt i9000 screen appears after your on a custom GB boot loader and Odin back to stock (or probably Odin flashing any other ROM) you can change it by flashing the GB boot loader again. My phone says its a i9000 too, but I'm just about lazy enough to not bother changing it, lol.
So that's unrelated.

Ok, faith momentarily restored. But I have questions:
-What do you mean when you say "check the option to also delete USB driver and uninstall any drivers"? I dont get such a prompt from right clicking on "unknown device" and selecting uninstall? Is there another method to uninstalling drivers?
-In the link attached, I can only find "Device(Install),USB Driver (Software) (ver.1.0)" not the 1.5.3 version mentioned. What am i doing wrong here? currently searching google for the 1.5.3 but finding nothing.
I get into download mode by holding volume- up + power. Have 2 PCs ( win xp and win 7) and a mac running mountain lion (but never ever have been able to get Heimdall to work, so devoting time to odin.)
Thank you for the time + help, guys, I really do appreciate it in the time of utter un-nerdness.
If the device is already installed it will have a check box that said "Delete the driver software for this device." If its unknown then obviously not. By "uninstall any driver", I mean uninstall any Android drivers you current have installed and reboot before you reinstall the new driver.
Although I doubt it will make a difference than the one I linked above, you can try the Samsung driver version 1.5.3: http://www.mediafire.com/?r0uc3h413qcy80z
If you did manage to get into download mode and see this: http://images.google.com/search?num=10&hl=en&site=&tbm=isch&source=hp&q=download+mode
Then it mean there is a very good chance you can restore the phone, if you can find a computer to recognize it and Odin to see a COM port.
I definitely think it would be worth the money to go buy an OEM USB cord. I can't tell you how many times I have seen this and a new USB is the fix.

OK guys...
My friend, who also owns a Vibrant, let me borrow the cable that came with the phone for the last 2 days.
Tried to make ODIN work on both PCs at home, gave Heimdall a shot on my mac, even hijacked a computer at work for the better part of the morning and freshly installed USB drivers 1.5.3 before connecting. All for nothing... “Unknown device” across the board....
At first I felt that with being able to get into download and have SOME kind of a reaction from connecting to PC had to be a good sign. Almost completely convinced that there is some unknown, unworkable hardware problem present. Definitely, officially, unremarkably out of ideas here.
Nothing is beautiful and everything hurts.
Last thoughts? Options at this point?
Also, tried One-click Unbrick tool on mac. I got a "is your phone plugged in, is it on download mode?" error, but anyone reading this down the line with a similar problem should check it out.
