Sorry, had to get to 10 posts, as the links in the APN settings were giving warnings due to my lack of enough posts.
As for how I got the phone, I work in Finance for AT&T and my office is at a retail store. They got the phone a couple days ago, and I've been playing with it since.
Anyway, here is the stuff....

thanks for this. which one is selected by default? my international version has the "ATT PHONE" APN selected, but I have the option to select the "ATT WAP" if I want. My data speeds are dismal (more dismal than normal ATT) so just wondering if it is my APN

Mine is sat on ATT PHONE by default and I am getting 5down 1up in a "non HSPA+" area (that was HSPA though...they are turning it on and off while testing it.)

thanks for the info. I normally get anywhere between 1.5-2 Mbps down, 1.5Mbps up, but lately it's been around 300 kbps down... quite frustrating. I wasn't sure if it was the ROM I was running (thus an APN issue) or ATT network here in Denver. I'm leaning towards the latter.
edit: oh, and Denver is supposedly a HSPA+ city according to the ATT network map... my speeds shouldn't have gone down when they "increased that backhaul"

I just checked your area and there are a couple of towers having issues right now in Denver, but a simple reboot should through you to a different tower.

The APN settings for AT&T SGS2 will not work on an international SGS2 unless you're on an official 4G plan. If you're on a grandfathered unlimited 3G plan or the data for non-Smart Phones plan you'll lose data connectivity. Also, you can't return to the Cingular 410 default because the network now recognizes the international SGS2 as a 4G phone. If the default's changed, you'll have to build a new APN with the old Cingular 410 settings. If you need them, they're in a thread in the SGS2 forum.

You can call and change from the grandfather 3g unlmited to the 4G plan and not lose the unlimited. You MUST be on the 4g plan to see 4g speeds out of the phone.

That's not true. I'm on the data for non-Smart Phones plan and pull 8MB down when I'm traveling in a fake-4G area. I get about 3GB down in non-upgraded markets. That's using the Cingular WAP APN settings.

I was talking about the data speeds, not migrating a 3G plan to a 4G plan. There's a lot of discussion regarding that on the international SGS2 forum. The data for non-Smartphones plan is the only one that's still available. On that plan, I'm getting fake-4G speeds (where available).

I added the unlimited 4g data plan by using a samsung infuse imei. So my plan is "4g" however I'm getting about 1.5 down and .800-1.0 up.
I even changed apn settings to match those in this thread.
I'm just wondering if this is a hardware problem or can a different modem correct these issues...
The Galaxy SII should work just fine with the at&t medianet settings. These are the settings I'm in and sometimes I can get download speeds of up to 7.5Mbps down.
Also, you don't need to be on that expensive quasi-4G plan b/c you can just use the medianet non-smartphone plan and it'll work just fine on the GSII.

in fact with newer sgsii firmwares if you dont have the 4g plan.. you will need to change apn this this to get it to work on older plans like media net and my unlimited family plan data.

[Q] What is the typical H+ Speed? - AT&T

Just wondering, what is the typical data H+ speed for AT&T? I just downloaded speedtest.net and my test result don't look promising. This is a unroot and still stock.
190kps for download, 434kbps for upload and 151ms for ping.
I usually get about 5mbps down and 1.5mbps up in Louisville KY on H+
Sent from my AT&T cellular device.
those speeds are extremely slow but speeds will vary depending on your area. You can't judge your phone based on someone else's speeds, unless they're in your same area.
The other thing to do is run a speedtest from your phone's browser:
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
Open that link and run the test. There are many people that had a problem with accuracy with the speedtest app.
Thanks everyone for the quick reply.
@ nyydynasty - I am in the Los Angeles, CA area. The reason I asked because everything seem to be real slow when it come to my data conection. My wifi connection at home (when I connected to it) is a lot faster connection in comparison. I am not trying to compare or guage the speed. The reason I asked is to see if I should call up AT&T and complaint at them to see why my connection seem slow.
My connection varies greatly. My speeds are either 1 meg a second or up to 5 when I'm in nyc. My connection can go down really quickly though, and I'll average like 300 kb a second.

5-6 down tops, and I'm in Phoenix, so LTE's in my area. Have yet to see a person with an LTE AT&T phone though. On the other hand, I've seen a Droid Razr pull down ~15 with only 3 bars.

in my area (MN) i get around 2-5 down, about 1 up. If you do decide to go with a custom ROM, give some different modems a try. Originally i'd rarely get over 1 down, then i decided to go through a few modems and saw some moderate improvements. Some say it makes no difference for them, but it definitely did for me.
Orange County Ca so your area should be closer to that. I live on the border of La and Orange County and the lowest i ever VHF et UNLESS i am bekng throttled is about 3-5Mbs download and as high as 7-10Mbs download being more normal.
EDIT: I think it helps tbat since i am rooted I have modified my build.prop fkr the faster speeds. Plus you can get more if you edit your apn settings (which I am not doing at this point with this pic)

Thanks everyone for the inputs, that tells me that my speed suck in my area. (or I am being throttled, I hope not.)
And this is the first time I got the data line since I have been with AT&T. It's only been a few months.
I doubt that I will root this phone anytime soon, it's still on the 2 years contract (got 22 months to go).
@ ROckRatt - What APN setting did you use? May be I can add a new APN and try to use that to see if I get better connection.
I would love to get it up to at least 5 or 6 download and 2 upload.

First I would call att and make sure they switched you to the 4G plan, sounds like they still have you on the 3G plan. Here are the APN settings I usually use but I do not remember if you can make them or set them up without being rooted. Most all of us are also on the contract with att also. I got mine in October if I remember correctly, whatever the first week it came out. So read up about flashing roms and just make sure to also download the return to stock packages IN CASE you ever need to return it to complete stock without att ever even knowing it was rooted and rom'd. Yoj will even be happier once you learn how.

[Q] Slow data speed on AT&T

Hello all,
I just received my S yesterday and cut down my AT&T SIM to a MicroSIM
The phone recognized it immediately, but I had to enter in the APN settings by hand.
It connected to the network fine and I have an "H" icon, but the data speeds seem much slower than with my X10.
I ran a test with the Speed Test.net APP and get anywhere from 0.15 mb/s to 0.8 mb/s. On my X10 (same SIM, same plan) I'd consistantly get over 1.5 mb/s.
I am on the MediaNet data plan. Like a mentioned, my X10 worked fine and was much faster.
Any suggestions?

Thanks for confirming that I had that right.
I just checked AT&T's coverage map and I'm right on the edge of a new HSPA+ expansion, so I'm hoping it's a coincidence and they're in middle of transitioning.
This is mine.
Another one in a different location.
Incredibly slow speeds
I just got my microsim from ATT today and I've got abismal results.
168kbps down and 139 up.
Checked and rechecked the settings, but they're the same you all are using.
Not sure what's wrong here...
Any ideas?
$15 MediaNet plan or smartphone plan?
I have the smartphone plan and I only ran one test in one location. Results were 2.4 mbps download and 1.1 mbps upload.

We're in the same boat - this is driving me nuts!
I'm travelling for work today and I'm at the Houston airport and getting anywhere from 1.5 Mbps to 3.5 Mbps down and a ~380ms ping using the speedtest.net app.
I tried re-entering the settings that Augie suggested but they were exactly what I had before.
Maybe it would help to get a new SIM card from AT&T? I'm using the same 3G card that I got with my w810 walkman phone back around 2006.
Well you'regetting better results than me. I don't think it's the sim card as I just got a new one today.

I just got the phone, and configured an APN with just "phone" nothing else filled and got between 2.6 and 4.1 mpbs downloading and 1mbps uploading, so I don't think the problem is with the APN but your local network, antennas around.
I really like the look of the S but like the spec of the Ion. Don't know which one to get. Where and how much you guy pay for yours? I think best price I look was about $600.00 free shipping.
Well, I seem to be getting better speeds now (consistently over 3mbps). Like I mentioned, I'm traveling right now, so I don't know if it well be better when I get back home. I guess we'll see.

And, what kind of speeds are you getting?

[Q] Can only use Medianet APNs?

So I had been on the dumb phone plan for a while, but last month switched to the 3GB Smartphone plan and had the sales guy confirm that I had an LTE-compatible SIM card, mostly in preparation for buying a new phone sometime in the next 2 months.
Anyways, I'm still using the medianet APN and none of the APNs in other threads seem to be working for me ( I tried the ones here, here, and here). I've heard that some people don't buy that APNs or different plans make a difference, but I'm in downtown Cleveland right now getting 600K download, and I've never seen higher than 1500K with my phone, and that just doesn't seem right.
I'm running the latest nightly build of CyanogenMod 9, and here is my current APN, as acquired from AT&T by "reset to default":
Name: ATT
APN: wap.cingular
Username: [email protected]
Password: Not set
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
APN type: default,supl,mms
APN protocol: IPv4
Bearer: Unspecified
There's also one named "ATT LTE" with an APN of 'pta' but that one doesn't give me a data connection.

ATT MMS

Has anyone got mms to work for the htc dna on att?
Searched, but no luck.
Thanks
I got it to work with gosms.
Used these setting in GoSMS and then it worked in GoSMS and regular system MMS.

are you using these in "User Profile Url manually" or "APN configuration manually? "
I used it in the apn. I sold it because I didnt want to use gosms, I want to get another one, but has anybody got mms to work without gosms?
I love the phone, but hate not having no mms.
Thanks

I ordered a DNA knowing about this issue and, while I'd rather use stock MMS, I'm willing to use Go or Whatsapp as a workaround. I want a phone with Sense and the One X+ overheats, has bad battery under load, and the 1GB of RAM makes for a horrible multitasking experience.
In my opinion, the DNA is the best HTC option until the One is finally released.

so thats why the multitasking is so much better on the DNA. that info about the OneX*. bc I was thinking about going to + from the OneX and so glad i went to the DNA.

I used to blame HTC for the multitasking fail on the One X. I thought it was something they did with Sense. Then I got my hands on a RAZR HD, which also has one gig of RAM, and it behaves the same way. I have also noticed similar behavior on the international GS 3. After you open a few apps and check available RAM, you can see exactly what's going on. Phones with 2GB don't have this issue and no slow down.
I played with the One X+ for 30 minutes and it got almost too hot to hold. I have also seen reviews showing that it drains much more quickly on idle. The Tegra 3 just isn't a good processor, especially next to the S4.

I also thought it was HTC's fault as well. Glad that has been cleared up. Thanks!
