/system full?? - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

I just tried to copy new maps.apk into my sys/apps and it tries then tells me there is not enough space! When I go into settings apps have 129mb free on internal but root explorer reading 5.45mb free in system!!
Is this something to do with custom kernel (ZombiePanic v1.63) or permissions

The internal memory is shared between storage and RAM, if you've got alot of programs/widgets loaded then it may not be free. Check 'running services' and it will tell you how much free memory is left.

Running services says have 35mb free?? Anyways thanks for the response obsidian_eclipse will just install maps another way

What app do you use to copy the file? Try a different/better one like Root Explorer.

hmm make sure you dont install for example games on /system

use titanium backup to see free memory systems ROM, because here the application system. why not install it? because it will be installed in internal memory.

You are talking about two different things. Internal storage is in /data not in /system

Yea I just used marked enabler and installed maps via market, just going to ignore systems folder as its free space size does not change when I install or delete things from it... as long as standard installations work will be happy

How to get ipks of my Market apps

How might I get the ipk files for apps I download from the Market, to back them up on my computer? I know how to install an ipk with Astro File Manager and would like to retain current versions of my apps in case I update an app and do not like the update.
I am interested in all methods. Can I extract the ipks from my phone somehow? Download from websites (if there are good websites collecting ipks). I would consider using a pirate website (if I have to resort to that), as I am not a pirate if I get the apps in the Market first.
Thanks

Why not just copy the apks from your system/app folder (needs root) to your SD card and then copy them to your PC

I have not yet rooted, but plan to do so. However, I viewed this directory with Astro File Manager and do not see the apks for the items I got from the market. I see a bunch of standard apps that came with the phone.
Hey use "File Expert", it has an option of backing up apks...you can backup any app installed on your phone.... No root needed friend.... There are other file managers that do this, but I prefer this cuz this is free n ad free too.
Happy backing up...

I use Linda file manager its free and it makes backups of your apk files and then use WiFi file transfer pro its like $1.50 but it's so worth it. It can transfer files from your phone to cpu or vise versa. Check them both out they are great!

I found Astro File Manager will back up applications as .apk. But it's help says it will only do apps marked as public, not private and that most paid apps are private. Will File Expert and Linda backup private apps?

You can only backup protected apps if you are rooted. Those apps are in data/app-private, and only root file explorers or root backup apps can access them. That being said, not all paid apps are protected. I've paid for plenty of apps and downloaded them from the market and almost all of them install to data/app. In Astro when you go to backup your apps, it will tell you which ones are protected and you cannot back them up.

Thanks for the explanation. My phone is rooted. Which file explorers will look into /data/app-private for purposes of backing up? (Also, I guess I can always do a NANDROID backup and extract them from the .tar files on my computer, but I would like to be able to do any apps (protected or not) one at a time.)
As long as you're rooted any of the file managers listed above will do the job. Personally I use total commander which is not yet availble on market. Look through the market and find the one you like.

On any file explorer that let you edit the system, go to /data/app/ and searcho for a file woth .odex extension and delete it, then try to install Titanium Backup from Google Play..
Done...
Hope it helps.

Well are you rooted? You need root, and to turn on root access in the settings of ES file explorer before you can access /data/app.
/data/app is not actually in either the internal sd partition or the external sd.
I'm a motorola defy user, used google and saw this thread, I also can't install titanium backup. I dont have the .odex file on system/data/app folder.
other apps install except titanium backup
edit: follow these steps
you need to delete odex file com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup-1.odex or same from /data/app directory
now working

You need to be rooted, of course. When you open ES Explorer, press the Back button once. That'll take you to your root directory, where the system/data/app folder resides
Can't install titanium backup
To fix it, you need to remove the patch installed by Lucky Patcher.
Open Lucky Patcher. Press menu button and hit Troubleshooting, then
Uninstall Patches. This will remove all patches that were installed by
Lucky Patcher for all apps.
Now, go to Troubleshooting again, and hit Clear Dalvik Cache and
Reboot.
Now, install Titanium Backup.
Note that you have to reapply patches for all apps you had previously
patched.

Out of Space???

trying to reinstall Titanium Backup and i keep getting a message that i am Out of Space. now i look at my storage and this is what i have, i have enough room but i cant install.. Im rooted, unlocked bootloader and running Viper Rom 1.1
Internal Storage
total 2.12gb
Available 1.44gb
Phone Storage
Total 9.93gb
Available 4.77GB
Storage Card
Total 29.81
Available 22.05GB
Edit i cant install via a apk from es file explorer or via the market.. Annoyed its only TB that is doing this..
OK to fix your problem you are going to need to delete the odex file from /data/app/ for com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup.odex. Delete this file via root explorer and you should be good to go.

No problem, Anytime you have an app problem like that on a odex ROM usually deleting the corresponding odex file will fix the problem.

[Q] Where is the memory gone?

In the device memory, despite the memory of 414MB used by applications (out of 2GB) ,the available is only 505MB.
Where is it gone?
Big question is "How can i get it back?"
Additional - ICS 4.0.3 (I777UCLE5) ,Rooted
EDIT : I found in root explorer, /data/log has occupied 514 MB (of the 2 GB device storage).
Is it an important folder or can i just delete it?
Ok you mention memory. Are we taking about memory or STORAGE space? ?

That's strange, did you repartition anything? I would also not depend on the information you get from touchwiz. Try installing a 3rd party app to verify this is the case.

Look at the contents of the folder. If there are only logs - you can delete (the logs, not the folder). If not - post the contents here (filenames and respective sizes).

I went ahead and deleted the folder.....
I got much storage back. 1.2GB free now.
( After reboot it formed a new "log" folder without any log files....)
I found other folder "data/lost+found" consuming nearly 350MB.Can i delete this one too?
So in the end, what did we learn from this? Search through your phone with a file explorer app and delete anything unnecessary. Don't know if its important? Google the file name or directory name. I'm sure someone somewhere has wondered the same thing be4 you did. I'm glad you got your issue resolved bud. Good luck, happy flashing.
I'm not going to delete the "lost+found" folder.1.2GB is suffice for me now.Why mess-up?

If you are not rooted, then you should root.
If you are rooted, then using a root browser (you can use es file explorer) go to data/app an you will find your app there. Now copy it to your sd card or somewhere so you can use it
Simply Use myappsharer from market

I dont think he should be rooted to copy anything FROM internal memory. Root is only required to copy TO internal memory.
False.
If you just want to look at your internal memory with all the system folders, you need root. Without root you can't even view that folder
Yes you are correct. My mistake
Use "App backup and restore" app to backup the required app and then share it....

You guys... I don't think its allowed to discuss about transferring paid apks (warez) on xda. :sly:
Correct me if I am wrong.
Simply buy it. Warez is not tolerated on XDA and shouldn't be discussed.
