How is GPS? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I've seen alot of posts of people getting their new SGS2, but I haven't seen any GPS results. I expect it to be the same as the international, but has anyone used gps test or gps status to see how well gps works?

Nice, thanks for the laughs Attn1 - and good to see you posting over here.
I gotta agree with shad0wf0x though - I'd like to get some general impressions about the GPS on this device, as I want one that works, and my wife's Cappy is absolutely junk in this regard.

Mine insta locks with 3 sats and will pick 4 more up in less than ~15 sec

Works great, good as my iPhone's did. The Infuse GPS was awful and it really pissed me off when I was foursquaring, but this phone does it PERFECTLY.

Mine locked on in less than 5 seconds and it is a cloudy rainy day here.

well I didn't wait, i got 3 sats in 10 seconds or so, got another 4 or so in under 30 seconds, did the update agps in gps test and got 11 right away strong locks (41+ indoors). GPS looks good to me.

Got a fix on 8 out of 9 sats in my living room in under 5 seconds.

This is good news for old SGS owners.

Good to see everyone having positive experiences with GPS.

Weird. The two Infuses I've owned have had perfectly functioning GPS.

Been using the SGII since Saturday and GPS works like it should. Locks within 5 seconds +/-

Really? I was at a Waffle House in Atlanta, GA and my GPS said I was in Chattanooga, TN and no matter what I did it kept locking on there.
I'd be using Google Navigation and it would take like 2 minutes to lock before it started navigating.

I'll echo the good user experience of most of these folks -
Wife tried hers on the way home - google nav got an accurate lock in about 15 seconds.
I waited till i got home and installed gps status - 4 sats within 5 seconds, 7 at 12 second first location fix, inside my metal roofed house on an overcast day. Had 11 sats by about 30 seconds or so - but never reported better than a 25m accuracy...not sure what's up with that. Did not clear or redownload agps data.

Mine just took about 7 seconds to get a lock after opening up Maps fresh and took about 15 seconds burrowed inside my downstairs apartment. Very good compared to my old Captivate and even faster than my stock Infuse - and MUCH better than my Infused version on 2.2.3 (no disrespect to gtg though, it was as good as it could get I think).

GPS is definitely wayyy better than the Captivate ever was!! I got lock within 10 seconds... I'm not disappointed by this phone at all..

GS2 uses SiRFStar IV GPS chip, way better than the POS Broadcom chip used in Captivate. Anyone ever used standalone GPS unit knows SiRFStar is a brand you can trust in GPS world.

Various Reviews. The Exynos APU also have a GPS baseband circuit built-in but Samsung decided to use an expensive dedicate GPS chip instead. I think the reputation of the poor GPS in original Galaxy S forced Samsung to do this.

That is good news. I made T mobile replace both of my Vibrant's with new units after almost two years of use because of that. I am very directionally challenged so this was a big deal to me.

Exactly. The SoC does have integrated GPS functionality, but Sammy chose not to use it. In fact, as you probably know, it's been rumored since the i9100 launched that the brand new SirFStar IV chip was in the Galaxy S2. I'm sure the SoC solution worked, but seeing as "gps issues" was probably one of the biggest complaints against the old Galaxy S, and in such a thin phone there isn't tons of extra space to put a huge antenna, they probably wanted to put the best GPS chip in that they could find!
The GS2 will never rival the reception of a dedicated GPS unit with a big ol' ceramic patch antenna, but it should work about as well as is possible with such a small antenna. At least, that's the hope.
PS, this is supposedly the GPS chip in the GS2. Which interestingly enough actually contains it's own 109 MHz ARM7 CPU. Normally GPS is handled by a combination of the baseband and the SoC, so it's gonna be interesting to see what sort of tweaks and upgrades will be available in the future by virtue of having a dedicated GPS chip.
And non sequitur for those interested, that means there's an ARM core in the baseband, another in the GPS, and 2 in the SoC. Quite a few cores for a tiny little device...

We're you planning on providing a Link? That's okay just the DESCRIPTION is enough for me to sell my Prime and get a new Pantech product, leaders of the bleeding edge that they are, besides my Prime doen't have working GPS and they had it on the spec sheet and took it off,
But does the GPS work more than 30ft deep? (cmon, ya knew it was comin)
And I'm 99% sure he was kidding, I saw the engadget article:

Pantech is up there with the Coby $100 walgreens tablets and the new Motorola Xyboards priced at ~$700 when you consider the mandatory 3g service...They're all jokes and most people on this board should know that

Have you not seen the thread about wifi not working with bluetooth for many users, myself included?
GPS is worth *****ing about because under no circumstances is it acceptable for a second generation device to be missing features from a previous device for the reason that the engineers didn't foresee that the 100% aluminum back would block signals. This is a well documented issue in the tech world which is why everyone has included a plastic panel/piece wherever they stick the antennas. The sheer stupidity of it is mind-boggling.
Also one of the points of Android is Google Maps and the ability of devices to do more and supplant single use devices like a Garmin GPS. That's why Garmin implements those terrible bluetooth and mp3 features in an attempt to compete in the current marketplace. I personally have a Garmin because I work for Papa John's and the Verizon outage in Q2 2011 illustrated that I can't trust a cell phone provider. For a full week I had to use a map .
Now the GPS issue for me is that even in the middle of my street with no obstructions I still can't lock to more than 2 satellites no matter which way I turn/hold the device. In my paranoia I was wondering if those bastards at LightSquared were testing their LTE in my area.
Either way what is the point of *****ing about *****ing? People don't have a right to be mad when a 500$ device doesn't deliver on what it promises? There is a difference between something not being ideal and not working altogether. More to the point this is an issue that should never have made it past the R&D stage. Did ASUS think that people wouldn't care? But for me the current deal breaker is the lack of bluetooth. I need my phone for other stuff, so it's not the device that is ideal for music in the car, so I usually use my tablet but it is 100% unusable in my car. Someone at ASUS is currently working the problem but while I am hopeful I am not all that confident that the problem will be fixed.
Non way I would ever buy a tablet from pantec not even a phone or anything from them!

The funny thing is I just purchased a tf101 on eBay and then I won a Pantech Element four days later. I must say that I was completely surprised by the performance of the Element, it benchmarked a whole lot better than the orig Transformer and it is super smooth and great to work with, I was surprised. If only I would have waited on my transformer purchase for a few days I could have sold the Pantech and gotten the tablet I had really wanted, the Prime (although, I must say all the GPS and wifi issues everyone is reporting is discouraging).
I never would have purchased a Pantech myself, but after getting it for free I must say that I would actually recommend it to people based on the performance and the price. I hear Pantech actually makes high end devices in Korea that rival LG and Samsung, but the US just gets their lower end phones.

The AMOLED screen does rock - black being jet black 'n all, but it's not as bright as the Prime's SuperIPS, 550nits compared to the 500nits of the galaxy. Samsung like to overdo the contrast/saturation to make it look more impressive, but actually it is a bit more unrealistic than the Prime's colour output.
PS the Pantech is UGLY!

Mixed Feelings about my Tranformer Prime

This is the first tablet I have purchased but not the first one I have used and I bought it to accompany my Samsung Galaxy S2 and my iPhone but I must confess I am not a big Apple fan.
Why am I happy?
I have a Quad Core tablet
It's shiny and new
It isn't an iPad
loving the keyboard
generally works quite well
Why am I unhappy?
GPS - I wanted fully functional GPS
Exporting video in Movie STudio it causes the TFP to reboot.
Many applicaton crashes including google apps
in hindsight i should of waited for a 3g model
Im hoping ics will be the answer to my prayers and asus provide a 3g add on module but time will tell.

I think there are 10's of threads you could have added your opinion to. But, that said, I think if you're hoping for ICS to magically make the Prime a better option for you, you're going to be disappointed. And I'd not hold out for a "3g add on module"--the 3G version of the Prime will be a completely new, redesigned device.
Sounds like you should return your Prime and wait for something that better meets your needs. And just for the record, I only have one app that routinely crashes on my Prime, and it's problematic on other Honeycomb tablets as well. Otherwise, I've found the Prime to be remarkably stable.

ASUS seriously should have waited for ICS until they sold the Prime. The above post is the perfect example of what happens if you rush a generally super nice device with totally crappy software on it...
@OP: Iam sure you will be less sad with ICS
I'm still hoping that Asus will come up with a plastic window solution like the Ipad for its gps problem, they can easily retool the case and fab the plastic insert.
As far as apps go, its not Prime fault. those apps need updating from developers that made them. Google earth works perfectly now as it was just updated the other day. as far as that movie studio goes, I had the same thing happen. I don't like it really. So you can't fault the device from a software standpoint. because that always can be improved. Plus you can expect alot of apps not to be working in ICS because not all apps updated yet to support it. The apps are getting there but alot still out there that needs ICS support.
The GPS issue I can understand. You can bet though that 3g version will be at a minimum $100 more plus you will be tied into a massive data plan which requires a premium extra fee because its a tablet. Prime is still a Good choice. even without GPS working.
I've had my for three days now. I'm deciding if I'm going to return mine or not.
Pros:
Screen and brightness is second to none. Super IPS actually hurts my eyes. Marvelous.
Wifi works fine for me. Mostly like my OG ipad
Camera quality is great. Video and pictures great.
Games like Riptide and Madden play super.
Flash websites like HBO go.com work great compare to OG Transformer that I owned.
I like the when you correct a word it zooms in on the area without a circle.
Kind of fun to hold. So very thin.
Having 64gb thanks to my SD card
With volume+ app. Speakers very nice.
Charges fast
Battery life continues to get better
No screen lag for me when transitioning.
ICS coming soon.
Cons:
GPS is brutally awful. Not sure if its a deal breaker.
Bluetooth and wifi don't work together like they should.
Lack of accessories.
Do I feel this is better than the first TF (owned for 6 months)? Yes.
Is it better than the current tablets now out (including I pad 2 wifi to wifi)? Yes.
Will this be the Blackberry Playbook of 2012 (considering major flaws for some)? Decisions. The last thing I want to see in a couple months is TF Prime for 299.00 at BB.
This thing is going for a premium on EBay right now as well.

I know it might be a matter of, "It's a functionality that should work, end of story..."
But can I ask you what your personal use for GPS is in your particular case? I had a Samsung GT10.1 for 8 months and I used the gps maybe three times. And even then it was locked onto a signal fairly quickly because the used the auto assist wifi signal, and I cannot fathom a usage instance that requires gps without wifi.

release first then ice, or wait for pics then release.
for all Ive heard before the release were come on, just release it already, pics, hc I don't care.
and not everyone start saying they should wait till pics to release it. tough crowd
It's the current battle of selling points with iCS, gps and 3/4g being the main contenders. Any new tablet that does not feature these will suffer from lackluster sales, imo.

I bought this as a work device/toy. At the moment I don't know what I want to use GPS for but I just want my tablet to do what it says it should do on the tin. I don't like Apple but they seem to have set the bar really high and the iPad pretty much does what it says it will do.
I understand what you are saying and it may turn out that I never need it but I paid for it and would at least like the choice to not use it rather than not use it because of an Asus major design flaw.
To add to the list of cons it reboots every morning whether it has been charged or not.
Why wasn't this added to the rest of the gripe threads? Nothing stated here that hadn't already been a rebeating of the dust that used to be the skeleton of the dead horse.
I think we all get it. People always strive to get somethng, then when they get it, they want more.. some more than others.

Course charting in a boat using Navionics software for one. Saved me thousands on a marine gps unit and I'm using a very old Ipad for it now.
I don't expect everyone would do this, but Come'on these statements like, "I never used gps so I don't know why anyone else would", just expose your lack of imagination.
my 2 cents:
Of the 3 tablets I now own...the tf101, ipad 1, and the prime...the prime easily wins the day. Its the best tablet I have ever used.
There are a few niggles.
1. The tf101 has the best wifi of the three. The prime and the ipad 1 score exactly the same in my testing for wifi performance....which is good enough for me. Not sure why people are griping about wifi so much while mine is par or better than the ipad 1...at 50+ feet and 4 walls from my router I still get 3-4 Mbps. Netflix, etc streams beautifully from the farthest corners in my house.
I don't often bother with bluetooth on my android tablets so I have yet to test this.
2. I rarely use my tablets for GPS so this is not a deal breaker for me. I have an offline GPS system anyway that does not require live data connection which I prefer on the road. I have yet to test the prime GPS...right now GMAPS snaps up my location using IP address I imagine.
After that this tablet plays high profile 1080p mkv files both from my network and from the sdcard without a hitch, has a GORGEOUS display, slim, light, has great battery life and runs honeycomb better than any tablet out there (I've fiddled with just about all of them). ICS will be the icing on the cake.
Sometimes these forums can turn us into quibblers. I never would have noticed the issues raised here on my typical usage of the prime or any of my tablets. For example, I never knew the TF101 has such great wifi performance compared to the Ipad 1 until I tested it because of this forum. The ipad always seemed just fine to me and so does the prime....and really thats all that matters.

In all likelihood it sounds as if the assisted GPS will serve your purposes just fine then. I really do not understand why anyone thought this tablet was going to be a Garmin. I also thought (and suppose I am or could be worng), that this was always advertised as aGPS. GPS does work when it is assisted by wifi, and it works pretty well when it's not. I wouldn't rely on it to drive, but I don't know why anyone would rely on anything other than a dedicated GPS to navigate - I certainly never take off on my bicycle to place unknown with just my phone, I always have my Garmin. If someone needs to navigate then they need to buy a dangerous Garmin and not think they "Got lucky" and scored a $500 tablet that allows included a real GPS that costs at least $100+ app on it's own.
Anyway.....the rebooting thing sounds like a real pain.. Mine has never reboot randomly. You say it happens in the morning, and I wonder what the culprit could Be? Are you powering it up and then it reboots or waking it Up? I wonder if it's an app.

I am going to use marine apps as well. Do you guys think if you have a GPS lock the Prime will keep it because the speed of a sailboat is not too fast?
Accuracy doesn`t really matter.
My phone with google navigation is perfect as a GPS, I don't need something four times bigger that won't ever fit anywhere on my car and won't charge on the car adaptator.
aGPS is more than enough for me.

Maybe you will have better luck than me. But, my Prime couldn't keep a lock, motionless, in the same orientation and location. The GPS just seemed to lose everything and started searching again, for no reason. That was a deal killer for me. If Asus had offered to fix this one problem, it would have been a real keeper! Instead the way they handled it just made me lose all confidence in their ability to support a quality product.
Be prepared to hear that you shouldn't expect GPS to work but that's no problem, and why would you want to use it on a tablet anyway? It would appear that most happy Prime users don't get out much or realize that an automobile is not the only use for GPS!

Now the Prime has only been on sale worldwide for a few weeks
So why would they totally redesign the back of the TF700 if they weren't aware of any issues with the GPS / WiFi etc. with the Prime
Sounds fishy to me
If it aint broke why all of a sudden fix it !!
Does anyone else agree here or is it me just thinking about the whole fiasco too much.

Again, not everyone has a wifi problem. For instance, my wifi works great.
Again, the TF700 is a different product aimed at people who want the best. It's their high-end model. The TF201 is the middle of the road and cheaper for it.

I can appreciate your comment on Just Wifi, but the GPS is pretty much an issue on all Primes (i.e No GPS without Wifi - pointless GPS solution)
But Why redesign the Beautiful Spun Aluminium Back from the Prime with a Plastic window on the new TF700 if they didn't think there was a problem with the Primes Design.

The OG prime was highlighted for wifi problems back in November which would allow more than enough time to make one prototype.
Agreed
So don't you think ASUS would have held off releasing the prime being as they probably knew what they were letting themselves in for

Everyone has the same issue, not everyone notices or or has the same wifi situation. We're talking about physics. Your prime doesn't alter the physical properties of aluminum.
Did they know? Absolutely. Did they gamble on early adopters? You bet.
The proof should be either in the driver configs on our primes or in the fcc certification application.
You'll find it.

Well said.
I just think we have been cheated by asus
Removing the spec from the website mid ship
To stop new buyers from having the right to complain
And to rub salt in bringing a new fixed prime out so soon
I could accept that after a few months
But hell they haven't even fulfilled this order yet!

Do you think ASUS knew about the GPS WiFi issues prior to release?
100% for sure

You know what lets take a chance and release it anyway
My thoughts round this are more believable now the TF700 has been announced and physically shown.
How long does it take ASUS to build a fully finished and working TF700 ?
a week ?
a month ?

Yes they knew about it and yes they shipped them out anyway just like any business they just want to make money and took their chances I don't know how well it's paying off for them.
Non-conspiracy theory reason for different backplate: 3G version planned, which requires an RF window.
My HTC Desire HD is pure Aluminum back and inside a case mate tough case never had any problems with GPS that Fasterfix from the market didn't fix. I am rooted on my Prime now on ICS with Prime Time just got my Prime today as well so haven't properly tested GPS. If any issues I will be trying out Fasterfix and setting it on UK pool as that's my location and seeing if it improves in any way.
Might be worth others giving Fasterfix a go too if your rooted.

ASUS certainly knew about the problem and went ahead anyway. Many posters here explain why; "my $500+ plus tablet does not function the way I expected it to but it's still awesome and I didn't need those features I paid handsomely for anyway...and so on and so forth". Too many rationlizations for a subpar device.
It's even more scary to think ASUS DIDN'T know about the problem. If that's the case they need to get out of the business.
Maybe not before release but for sure before they told us about it. It is clear from the new uglier, more functional design of the 1080p tablet they announced and apparently have built.
I still want to see a gps test with the back removed before making a final judgement on Asus statement about it.
Im getting an instant GPS fix with Fasterfix.

The prime.behaves pretty normal GPS wise. IMHO. I don't have one yet but every device with agps has some problems when not connected to wifi/3g. Its the same with my dhd when i don't have a signal. But phones usually have a signal to assist GPS.
Most wifi only devices don't have GPS at all because of that. I think its cool asus put it in anyway. If you didn't knew that before the purchase and are unhappy because of that return in it. What's the big deal?
They knew but GPS was not their primary design goal! If you want that functionality use your phone or buy a standalone GPS! The ipad 2 wifi model doesn't have GPS either!
There goal was to give you a slim light tablet and be the first to the market with a quad core! With an exceptional battery life! (GPS slaughters battery life BTW!)
Remember you get to chose 2 good cheap or fast!
Asus seems to have chosen cheap+ fast!
Apple on all their products chooses good twice as their products come out almost 6-12 months after other. Equvilant products but they do not have issues at all! But you pay up the butt for them!
But remember its better to buy something that does one task perfectly (a garmin) then buy something that does multiple tasks well (the prime!) stop *****ing!

And what do you have to say about the poor WiFi performance? Was that also not a "primary design goal" for their WiFi only tablet?
The original transformer, which I owned, did quite well with GPS. I don't know why we take a mistake from ASUS, giving us less functionality than the earlier model, so lightly. The idea that a manufacturer can toy with the spec's of a product AFTER they start selling it and not get called out for it is a dangerous precedent.

C2 vs. C3?

Hello , i think to buy the prime but i have some quesntions .
1) whats the different between c2 and c3? in my country i found only c2
2) should i wait for t700? i dont need gps , i dont play games , just the wifi problem is the issue i dont buy it know
ill use it only home (big house 3 floors)
Thanks!
According to those with C3s and some ASUS representatives the C3s have substantially better WiFi than the previous Primes.
i have a c3, no wifi problems whatsoever..
gps still very bad..
Isn't that a bummer :-(
I have a c20 which has a better wifi and gps than my previously owned c10... but what about now... sad... just plain sad. The product needed four months of production to finally get better

why there are no custom roms? like cm9 etc?

there are .. you are in the wrong forum and wrong thread (look in development area )
My prime is great around the router. It's just bad @ certain areas around the house when its near -70dbm. My other wi-fi devices are also bad @ these areas but the prime takes it to a new level. So the question is how do I fix this.
I'm not much of a tinkerer and I mostly use my Prime @ home. Away from home my Galaxy Nexus tethered to it is absobloodylutely superb. So since my problem is more of a home issue, I went ahead and used an old linksys router w/dd-wrt firmware and turned it into a repeater bridge. Now while it did work for our desktop w/ethernet it didn't perform too admirably with wi-fi devices. It was just too weak. In the end I just bought this here baby:
http://www.amazon.com/Amped-Wireles...0000/dp/B005UBNGY6/ref=cm_pdp_rev_itm_title_2
Okay, it might be overkill but hell yes did it fix my wi-fi issue @ home & backyard like a boss when BBQ'ing lol. Using a C3 while never using any earlier iterations of the prime so can't compare between wi-fi.
Saw this one too though but not much of a traveler/hotel person but may be great for those individuals =)

i saw it , but its not popular like roms on galaxy s II or other devices
why ?

i think because prime sales are suffering from the bad reputation and low producion rates...
just install AOPK from jermaine, no need for other roms!
ot: atm i'm using my c3 prime outdoors right now, 3 walls and window between router and me , aprox 20 meters, surfing goes well, streaming video is quite impossible.

Are you sure that C3 has GPS on board ?
I have a C2... recently purchased from BestBuy... no issues with WiFi... as good as my laptop and Galaxy Nexus... granted GPS is not great, but it does work most of the time when I'm outside...
Another C3 here with good Wi-Fi and GPS performance, even indoors. There's just a limit to how well a low power GPS transmission can be received through multiple walls.
Many phones running GPS indoors are actually triangulating using cell tower signals much of the time, and I find Google Maps is often positioning me through the BSSID of the Wi-Fi AP's it sees instead of through any GPS lock.
That said, I second the endorsement for using a $20 AP (running DD-WRT firmware in repeater mode) to cover blind spots for any Wi-Fi devices. Not as good as the high power options, but they're cheap, only require AC, and are easy to put up.
I have a C2 and getting great (or satisfactory for me) WiFi performance. Could care less about GPS on a tablet. When I'm driving I'd rather be navigating with my phone and not a big tablet that provides a distraction from driving. To me too much is made about the GPS. WiFi issues are a more serious concern in everyday use.

My.c2 wifi is on par with my HD2. Perfectly acceptable.
Indoor GPS locked on to 8.. and saw 11 satellites.
I have a BB from early December and my WiFi works perfectly, even when using Bluetooth for audio streaming. GPS is next to useless but I don't need it anyway (and they are releasing that new dongle).
While the C3's might have a lower chance of manufacturing defect, I don't think that they are any different hardware-wise from the C2 and earlier Primes.

It is, doesn't seem that there's any difference with the C3, several users posting their C3 had issues just at the top and in the bt/wifi fallout thread. Looks like you still got to get lucky to get a good one

I think its been like this from the beginning... There are a small % of primes that have issues, no matter what Serial. Thats the way it is with complex electronic devices
If it was a small %.. there would be a lot more happy posts around this place and the internet in general.. Just sayin.

Just got one

So I just got this phone yesterday and I'm having a few issues.
One is the Browser keeps locking up, I have Chrome as well as the stock browser and they both lock up.
The WiFi performance seems pretty crappy too. Sitting right in front of my Apple router and not even full bars.
I have had a GS3 and currently have the iPhone 5, I have to say the iPhone is way more snappy then the G.
Not sure if this is a keeper or not.
I played with the One X Plus, and I'm not big on Sense, so the LG UI is much nicer IMO, but the phone may go back and give the One X Plus a try

+1 defective unit. The One X+ is inferior in every single way except for the amount of NAND flash memory soldered to the motherboard and it arguably has a somewhat better display.
Yeah I think I'm going back to the iPhone 5.
This phone is a tad too big and there is nothing to hold on too to give it some grip.
I looked at a few cases today at the ATT Store and all were crap.
I also miss Siri and all the easy voice commands as well as the new Google app for IOS is like having Jelly Bean on the iPhone.
Its a nice phone but oh well, gota love Best Buy for the returns....

Assuming this isn't a troll post....
I have an issue with Chrome looking up on certain websites. It seems to be an issue with Flash. I do not have the problem with the stock browser. I've seen that complaint with Chrome across multiple Android platforms on XDA and other android-focused sites.
The WiFi performance is good. I have a new (2 week old) Airport Extreme. The OG does not have a WiFi issue in my apartment, and my building of 12 apartments all have wireless networks. I too have noticed that the icon shows a "low" signal for some time after signing on to a network but that the bars return to a more appropriate level shortly thereafter. I noticed this on the Airport, a DDWRT WRT54G and a NetGear DIR-625. There is no performance issue, just an idiot light thing.
I am at the office at the moment. I've attached a screenshot. This is my OG connected to a Linksys WRT54GS at a cubicle on the other side of the floor. It's a rather large office building.
I had an iPhone 3GS that died. I played with an iPhone 5 for some time at the Apple store before I decided I wanted to try something new. For completeness I also didn't want to pay more than $299 for something I could get for $199+ discounts. The LG Optimus G is not any slower or less responsive than the 5. I'm not sure where the "way" comes from.

I play with an iPhone 5 randomly when I want to try a game that is not on Android since my Roomie has one and it is in no way snappier than this phone, he even agrees this phone is better in all aspects and would have it himself if his work did not make him have an iphone.
Yeah I knew I was going to be killed for making my statement, didn't mean to stir the pot.
I go thru phones, but I have a all Apple Eco system at the house, I did use the GS3 for over 3 months before the iPhone 5 came out and I was still upset about the crappy small screen on it not to mention the, yawn UI. That's why I keep trying out these Android phones.
The one thing about the iPhone is it's very sold hardware and software wise, not saying the OG is not, but its a much more simple UI so it just works.
The OG UI is very cool, much nicer than the HTC's or the Samsung's IMO, that's one reason I chose it, but its a big slippery phone too boot.
I also don't like that the voice search bar is way up in the upper left, I can't get my thumb to hit it when I'm driving vs I can use Siri to voice text, nav ect with a quick press of the home button.
I'm going to play with the OG for a few more days, but I would like to try out the new Nexus 4, seems to be all of the OG but in a better package less the storage, I don't think I can make do with a lousy 16 gig, I mean reallly 16 gis total, what are they thinking and no LTE, I need LTE!!!
Another issue I'm having with this phone is when I come back into the house the WiFi does NOT auto reconnect.
I've messed with the setting and it requires me to go into the WiFi to connect. I'm sure this is not correct, anyone have this issue??

I had the IP4 for 6mos and could never make it work for me. however, for most people I know (family and such) iOS is the way to go. If you can handle the limitations inherent in iOS and especially iTunes, and the smallish 4" screen, then the IP5 is a really nice piece of hardware and hard to beat. I'm especially impressed with how they managed to *increase* battery life after adding LTE. very impressive.
