[Q] [HELP FROM ALL DEVS.] Camera low-fps issue - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello! This is a request to all the developers for Galaxy S II. You probably already know that some Galaxy S II suffer from the problem of low-fps (stuttering) with low-light conditions. That is resolved with the firmware of the camera of the Samsung I997 (Infuse 4G), but putting this firmware, the LED flash does not work anymore. You can change the firmware?
The firmware does help is the SIEG03. Camera firmwares topic here on XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098834&page=110
Thank you in advance if can help.
Behind SGS2's Camera: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4686/samsung-galaxy-s-2-international-review-the-best-redefined/9

It would be great if some of devs look at this fw and changes what is problem so flash stop working

Indeed, i would be great +1

I sent a private message to Chainfire and email to Supercurio. I hope they meet!

Great thread! SC cameras are the ones that have low light framerate issue. If someone resolves the flash issue it will be great.

Is this the same thing as the low-light autofocus laggy thing?
I made a video at my friends birthday in a nightclub and it's crap! Had to delete it! Blurring and lagging every few seconds!
I know potatoman might do something about it but he's busy at uni now, I'm kinda surprised nobody has jumped on this issue. One of the big reasons I got the S2 was the camera...turns out it's not that good

Yes. Its that problem. And is laggy beacuse of some galaxy s2 camera modules have some bad firmware. The SIEGO3 fix the suttering in video but remove the led flash of the videos and we cant use it like assisted lamp for autofocus. If someone implement in the firmware, our problem is solved.

+1
It would be great! Thanks

Maybe someone who knows cyanogen can tell him to tell samsung to fix it. I mean he does work for them now

This is not a solution since makes videos dark as hell.

Maybe Samsung are aware of the framerate issue... they should be considering how many of us have this problem, but before they can release the firmware it proberly need to be tested ect so takes time.
Im using the infuse 4G firmware & more than happy to plod along with it, until a fix is released by either a Dev or Samsung.
I had a Galaxy S before i got the S2, so having no light in video isn't to much of a problem for me, the camera flash works which is more important, even without the pre focus light the camera still locks on 99% of the time in low light.
TBH that pre focus light of the orginal cam firmware was annoying as hell to some people, as it use to blind them before the flash kicked in lol.
Anyways im happy with having constant 30fps in either 720p or 1080p without any framerate problems.

The well-known dev's are unlikely to respond to PMs as they'd get hundreds\thousands a day, mostly from noobs, so unless they're from people they already know, I wouldn't expect a response. Plus a lot of them don't frequent XDA as it's turned into a noobfest where the "popular" devices are involved.
You could try posting over on the Cyanogen forums.
Steve (Cyanogen) is not likely to be in a position to "tell" Samsung to fix anything, and certainly not for a device that is as old as the SGS2 is now.
You could try logging a fault with Samsung themselves, they have been known to respond, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

Ok but when I paid the phone, my money worked very well and did not need to decrease the exposure!

The same for me! I don't feel a strong lack of flash, but can be useful with app. that use it like "Tiny Flashlight" etc.

Personally I'm happy with the GS2 camera! And in my opinion, is not this little difficulty make it worse!
PS: Maybe give us a hand!

And here:

Just a heads up that while I'd love to help with this, I don't experience the issue myself, so I wouldn't even be able to test if my fix would work or not. I'm also not comfortable with my code being flashed- my firmware modding capabilities are limited at best... and flashing a bad camera firmware can be irreversible.
Sorry guys, good luck finding someone else who can help though.

Camera autofocus noise

Hi im so sorry for making yet another thread for the camera autofocus noise but it seems devs keep ignoring this.
the camera auto focus on different roms will be worse. sometimes doing it when you turn the phone on when you use flashlight and even sometimes when the card is being read. and im sick of hearing devs blame it on the camera model or that its always been there. my camera never made any noise till i installed miui and ever since it makes noise even when i revert to stock roms. the best its been is on villian rom.
this is obviously a problem with the firmware being used or something else that devs are doing or not doing. can someone please devote some time to get this fixed please. im not the only one who feels this way and i think its wrong for devs to lead us to believe its normal when its clearly not if it effects different on different roms and that obviously the noise wasnt there before. i think its a serious fix needed.
so please please please someone get to the bottom of this

Actually i posted to let you know that if you have an OC camera, it's normal. All OC cameras make that noise, no matter what rom you are using

Ok, sorry for stating the obvious. Please find somebody with an OC camera that doesn't act like that, be it on stock or custom rom and then we can talk about fixing things. If that's default behavior for OC cameras and looks like it is, no dev can fix it. But i have a fix for you: replace your phone with another SII that doesn't have an OC camera. Easiest fix in the world and you can do it yourself.

i seen people who have had se firmwares and the update gave them oc and visa versa. so obviously the firmware code has no relavence to the camera. if what you say was right then the above wouldnt be possible. check out the camera firmware upgrade thread and see for yourself
I'm checking that thread often, cause i'm interested in a fix myself, but i still don't buy that firmware change, since no one else succeeded in changing an OC camera to a SC one. There's only 1 report of it. Can't really compare 1 report to all the owners with an OC camera that confirmed the clicking noises regardless of roms, firmware updates and everything else. I got no quarrel with you and i really wish you could find someone with an OC camera that doesn't behave like that. I couldn't find any and i investigated both on several forums and in real life with friends who own SII.
P.S. And i'm pretty sure if that guy uploads his apk your phone will say camera already has the latest update and can't install it.

the apk doesnt work. you cant do it like that i tried. u have to have a firmware upgrade apk or be compiled from scratch. just taking the apk out through root explorer wont make any difference.
Tested all the firmware update apks posted in that thread. None could be applied and my cam remained OC002, even though people reported that they had 002 and it turned to 009, which i highly doubt it can be done just by updating camera, cause 009 is an older version and camera wouldn't let you downgrade to a previous version. My phone has no root, so i don't have any other options than wait for another firmware update from Samsung.

been speaking to codework. would have to be pushed in through system/ect/firmware and it seems that the roms only come with oc type firmwares. so the roms have never been giving the phone the options for the se type firmwares. things are started to prove my point now. think codework is looking into it more now cause my theory is started to maybe be true
I have OCED11 ver of camera and today I heard that sound when entering camera, and when switching from photo to video mode. I don't remember hearing it before, but if others have it also, then it's nothing abnormal. I bought phone 1 month ago, and didn't install any custom apps and etc.

[Q] Sleep of Death - still a problem?

I'm returning my LG Optimus 2x for a refund due to sleep of death issues and was thinking about getting the Galaxy Ace....but then I read here on XDA that the Galaxy Ace suffers from the dreaded sleep of death as well!
I use wifi a lot, so this has got me really worried. With the Optimus 2x the problem seemed to be related to wifi also and it drove me up the wall. Is there any chance that this issue has been fixed in any recent firmware update on the Galaxy Ace?

stock firmware is pretty good if u ask me. rite now im still using zckpa. almost similar to cm with advance call setting feature. moreover currently it had the loudest sound volume of all ace roms. but the problem that still haunted stock rom is sod.
I should mention that in the month that I had it, I rooted my O2X and installed every ROM I could get my hands on (stock and otherwise) and nothing solved the sleep of death problem.
I'm not really enthused about the idea of buying another android phone and having to go through all that just to get the wifi working. I want it to work flawlessly out of the box.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. I won't touch anything that has reported SOD issues with a bargepole, so I've ruled out the Galaxy Ace for now.
Will wait till all the new phones come out ready for Christmas I think.

Speaking from a personal view i think you should rethink. The ace is a wonderful phone. The feel and look are unmatched. Cm7 is easy enough to install, and to be fair you should consider it for any phone you buy. It will inprove the life of your phone and increase the abilitys of it. All android phones work in essence the same. Not with cm, its your call but be informed first. Every phone has its querks, you could end up with something worse.

The O2X was a wonderful phone and I would have been happy with it -but- it crashed 10 times a day or more. There are O2X owners out there who never had a single problem with their phones so I guess I was unlucky.
I could easily go down to phone house and grab a Galaxy Ace at lunchtime, but I am absolutely sh1t-scared that it has the same defect as the O2X I just returned. I just don't want the hassle, there's no rush - and I'm sure there will be some nice phones out in time for Christmas. The Galaxy W springs to mind

Well to be fair sod on galaxy ace is on all of them to my knowlage. Its wifi related. Cm7 fixes it completely, but i understand your consern. The only otherthing id say in its defence is it in thory can be overclocked to 1300mhz maybe even 1500mhz stable. The kernel isnt out yet, but im confident with such great devs on the ace it wont be long. And lastly if your looking to mod the ace community is already established, its frustrating to buy the latest phone and watch others with lesser phones doing things your cant yet. Im honestly not trying to convince you, im just completely inlove with my ace. The last phone i liked this much was 8years ago. Would hate to see you miss out. Im an ace fan and i can do nothing but recomend it.

Sure, its a good phone at a very good price. Looks nice too. There are two things going against it in my mind though: no 720p video recording and a low-res screen. Still, I'll have to pay at least 100eur more to get those features.
So is it really fair to say that all Galaxy Aces have sleep of death on stock ROM?
with the O2X you have at least some chance of getting a working handset, plenty of people say they never had the problem.

Yeah, all of them. Takes 10minutes to flash. As for the screen i would say this. . . It may not be hd, but you find another screen this bright and clear. Ive had an iphone with the same def, a nokia 5530 with higher def and a lg gt540 again the same def and not one looked this good. Its the best ive seen. Ace is epic. . . With cyanogen its legendary! You know best thing you can do is go in the shop and ask for a demo, bet you walk out with it in your pocket.

Interesting - anyone else found the GB update to resolve the issue? from what I've read this wasn't the case for everyone.
Anyway, the Galaxy W is coming out in a few days, I think the extra cost would be worth it to get a higher res screen and 720p video recording. Plus it's 1.4ghz processor, better for games. So long as the GPS performance is better than the old Galaxy S this will be my next phone...though the Galaxy Ace is definately prettier it's cheaper for a reason
For me, versions KPN, KPO and KPT are the only ones which solves SOD issue. I think that issue is solved with all latest versions (2.3.3 and 2.3.4)

[Q] Please help me!

But it has 1 problem that make me feel sad
The screen have problems with the colours, for example when i'm playing assasin creed, the places that are black, have some problems with the degradation, and it can be appreciated when i connect the cellphone to my notebook and, the blue light around the usb sign, has problem with the degradation i did some LCD test with the code *#0*# but everything it's ok!, oooh! and when i take some photos, these are ugly, not focus, not clear, horrible photos and the galaxy s2 of my sister take amazing photos but my new s2 not! please help me
The question is how can i fix this problems? the screen problem and the photos problem!

for the camera problem, try logging in to the samsung apps app and see if there is a camera firmware on there.
many people have problems with the colours, dont know if there is a fix.
That's called color banding, kinda similar to this:
http://img.tapatalk.com/b4c17a64-3d72-bd9b.jpg
It's is a software issue that's caused by rendering images/textures in 16 bit mode, which doesn't look all that brilliant on the S2. Using 24 bit mode should resolve this, however not all applications run at this color mode.
There is no fix as far as I know apart from developers forcing their apps at 24 bit natively.
thanks

anyone has the links to very early builds of the XZU?

I seem to remember when I first owned the device some members were saying that the camera works well in the early builds...been waiting for forever for new updates to fix the camera and yet it still suck...anyone has links to those builds? I did a search a while ago and was unable to find any archives for the C6833...can someone give me a direction for me to start searching? Many thanks. And, I actually prefer the older builds where the screen's lighting would not change due to the color of my content
You remember wrong. The camera wasn't better on earlier builds. You had the option to disable adaptive backlight, but it would cause SODs (Sleep of Death), and a lot of other bugs, so it's not even worth it. Sell your Ultra and buy a phone with a better camera if a good camera is a priority.

What you are doing wrong is using Samsung.
Are you on the newest software? I had many issues with CameraRAW and Halo, did not test them lately (using only GCAM) but that new June update should fix it...

You want to contact Samsung for that? LOL
They'll ignore you like nothing. Eventually, you might get the standardized reply on their support center, and in the end, you'll realize that nothing they told you will "Fix" the issue because the issue is not device specific here, it's their horrible post-processing which impacts EVERY S23 series device.
Want to get rid of their trash post-processing? Start using Gcam.
f/1.7
exposure 1/6s
iso 2000.
This is agressive even for a dslr, don't expect more from a cell phone .
It's not a secret, that most if not all cellphone supplier rely mainly on post processing, and from I saw on your picture this is normal.
Nowadays, is less dominant, but I do remember when we had older sensor on S2 , S3 and so on, those artifact were there soon as the light was a little bit low.
