LED notification light - Motorola Photon 4G

Is it just me or does the led notification light seem very low? If the phone is laying down flat it's very hard to see if your not lookin at it directly is anyone else having this issue as well?

I consider it a feature..I can accidentally set my phone face up at night without a notification lighting up the whole room and waking me up. It's all in how you look at it I guess!

I agree that it's not very noticeable and I like being able to see it. One of the smaller issues I have to complain about right now though.

i agree, does not light up the whole room. My old EVO used to do that. uggg
I want to know when the light is going to work at least how it says in the manual

Okay thought it was only me. Yeah other than that I love this phone especially how fast it charges!

Yeah I thought the same thing when I first got my photon, I don't mind it though, and your right it does charge super fast,

Well, until you mentioned it.................Yes, its low unless I'm actually looking at the phone (and this likely saves battery?) BUT, as stated, I dont want my bedroom glowing when I'm sleeping either. Not like I would get up and actually check it anyway!

[Q] Power LED indicator?

I've seen LED power indicator mentioned in a few reviews, but couldn't find it on photos. And I don't have Prime yet, only original TF.
So, is there really a power indicator on the power button on the tablet itself?
Also, if it IS there, I have a suggestion. There's an app Missed Message Flasher on market, which flashes LED or hardware button highlight on my phone (which don't have LED) when you got a new notification. Why don't someone make similar app for TF Prime? So with any new notifications it would flash even if screen is off.
I've found myself pressing power button just to check if I got a new messages in IM or a new email quite a lot during everyday use. Would be very useful just to look on the tablet and see if anything require my attention (new notifications) by flashing LED. Hope it's not too dim for that purpose, and power consumption should be miniscule. Yeah I know it's playing a sound when I got something new, but this isn't so convenient and I could be absent at the time when new message appears. Flashing or pulsating LED would be quiet and nice.
Maybe not as app, but as a part of custom ROM - I suspect this functionality would require root.
Because it's in such a weird place you would never check to see the color of the light

edit: Ninja'd again lol
Its so small and located in such a way you would have to be looking directly at, its probably not worth it.
Well, in very bright conditions - yes... But in not-so-bright-usual-geek-dungeon even blinking reflection on the table or wall is enough. Again, I don't (yet) have one to test the brightness myself, so this is only a speculation

As others have said, the light is too small, and in a place that the odds of having it in your line of sight would be minimal. You would only have a 25% chance that the top edge of the unit would be in line of sight. Good idea, really, but it plain wouldn't work well enough to be worth it.
BTW, it IS on the power button itself, which leads ME to a question. How is everyone's power button? Mine is stiff as a day old dead dog, and I find myself squashing, pushing, pushing again to get the unit out of sleep mode. My OG Transformers (all 3 of them, have a nice springy detent of perhaps 1/32" - 1/64" (damn America for never adapting the Metric System! I don't know my milimeters from my water meter) The new button is just a mush,, with no noticeable travel)
Ive seen something that ll make a little envelope bounce around on your screen,
though im not sure how battery intense this is (then again this thing has a mamoth batterylife so I wouldnt care!)
This is one reason I still sport my Nexus One which is my main messaging device. I love the RGB glowing trackball which my co-workers all call the glowing eye of mordor.
Not sure why this feature is so overlooked. I guess as more feature phone users upgrade they don't know what they are missing.

Okay then Well, at least it's clear that it _does_ have LED power indicator. Too bad that new button is stiff also. Not a deal-breaker, ofc, but I'd be pressing it quite a lot during use.

^^ this. It is tiny and only in the dark could you see it and only if the tablet has it's edge turned towards you. In reality, it is 100% worthless and I am surprised it is even there.

[Q] SGSIII Smart Stay Issue. Anyone?

I was very excited by the Smart Stay feature of SGSIII but after a few days, experience, my opinion is that it does not work. I set the timeout to 15 sec. The eye flashes in the notification bar but most of the time screen is turned off. I tried staring directly at the front camera. Tried various positions too but no result. And all this is done in a normal lit room. Then I tried removing my specs and then it seems to work. Since I can't do much without them, so no fixed observation. Can anybody help?

Any particular setting? Or particular angle at which you keep your phone? Mine for sure does not work. The eye flashes but then the screen is also turned off.
I have the same issue too. Does anyone know the issue and how to overcome it? Thanks
I get mixed results with it. It works under ideal conditions but I had to extend the dim period to use it in everyday use.
The icon appears to show that the phone is checking for a face and not confirming it saw one. I see it flash even when looking from an angle where I'm definitely out of the camera frame.

Me and a friend we bought s3 and both of us having an issue with smart stay !It works after you open the device for the 15-30 minutes and after that nothing, after the eye appears the screen goes off!We are not wearing glasses!!So any idea what cause that?A possible bug of it?Or any future update will fix it?
you guys running on XXfl2 or whatever it is?
smart stay works really well for me, never has an issue, even at acute angles
It never works for me.
Then again... I'm way to ugly for my phone to stay with me.
Smartphone's R getting to smart I guess.
Works great for me too...
Samsung already stated they are working on improving the feature as it is not yet capable of handling some light conditions, and most glasses.

Works fine for me with glasses, as long as the phone's front camera is pointing right at me.
The flashing eye means its searching for a face; the only indication that it has recognised you is that the screen doesn't turn off.
Same issue!
Yup, facing the same problem. Keep staring at the screen for hours for the damn thing to work. But it just wont. I have tried with my glasses off. Got the same result. The eye appears on the screen twice. The first time it dims the screen, the second time it shuts it off. I have tried different angles, but have finally resigned to my fate, unless XDA/Sammy figure it out!
not working for me 2
I am not wearing any glasses but it simply dont wok tried to change the angels but no luck ... hope it need improvement. This was the main reason to purchase the s3 but....
Mine works quite well, feels like its abit of a battery drain though.

It needs to be a nice distance from your face to pick up your eyes, light is an issue too.
Its a nice feature that has some obvious issues on a 1.X MP camera.

Samsung patented this feature so i guess the app dev is in a bit of danger unless he is not really rich.
Other apps wont be as good either, as smart stay was made with this hardware in mind (namely the camera). Others will have to bend and shape to fit multiple cameras, making detection algorithms not as strong.

Light leak from left touch key in dark ??

Hello guys, now its been almost a week since i've had my s3 but yesterday night before going to sleep, i just unlocked my phone in pitch black darkness and what i saw was white light originating from the left capacitive key extending to the screen which looked really bad like a screen burn or some kind of weird white patch on the screen as if i've cracked it, and if it were from both keys i cud have convinced myself that its normal but its only the left key! and its not at all noticable even in a little light and if your screen is not using a dark black background.. so what do you guys suggest me to do? can you guys check your phones in a fully dark room with black blackground and touch keys lit up?? and will my warranty consider this an issue and cover it? i feel so bad right now :/
I'll check later tonight, but I generally have those lights permanently off since my S2 as the intermittent on/off at every screen touch is an annoyance particularly when watching videos
I would suggest turning them off, the buttons are easy enough to find in the dark plus you save a little bit of battery.

Yep right its leaking, turn mine off ALWAYS plus its better looking when turned off
i dont know how but getting to know that the rest of you have it, i feel fine now and as most of you said, i'll turn them off, thanks

i dont have it and i also turn off those capacitive lights. either you have to live with or go far an exchange.
You sure?
Are you sure?
It can only be seen in a dark room and with a black background on the phone.
I dont like having flaws on my new stuff. I am gonna try to exchange it.

I went to the dealer and they said that they would send it to the shop to check if it really had a failure, and if it had a hardware failure they would exchange it in one week!!!!!!!!!!! i will just stay with my phone as it is. It is more possible they will really screw it on the shop with something really bad to worry about, and I bet that the next one will have the same flaw or another even worst, so I prefer to stay with mine.

I would at least flash the stock rom and see if those software fixes actually work, then you can at least know that it's possible to have it that way on JB, but if not then it might mean you should do a hardware replacement of your screen

[APP] NoLED

As you all know, our LGOG doesn't really have any LED functionality. I really miss this as I had gotten super used to relying on it for info on my old Atrix. So I was browsing the general Android Apps section today and saw something that tries to help with this!
NoLED
I am linking to the original post as I don't want to steal any credit, just wanted to post it since I didn't see it here and didn't want anyone to miss it!
I'm currently downloading it to try it and will report back. Give it a try!

It should only be used for Amoled screens. On Amoled screens black pixels are not lit up so battery usage is minimal (still a lot though). On our LCD screens the whole screen would light up, most likely killing our batteries in hours. I haven't actually tried that app but that's what I'm guessing would happen.

It's been brought up before in The Base thread a while back. You're right, the whole screen lights up. Quite a few wake locks. Not battery friendly. Personally, I would not recommend it. But give it a chance.
OP, there are a couple alternatives in this section, if you haven't already seen them, that are worth giving a shot, as well.
