[ROM] Viewsonic Viewpad 7 Froyo Enhanced

Viewpad 7a 'Enhanced' (RC1)
Viewpad 7a is a quick and dirty modification of the stock firmware from Viewsonic. This should be a decent alternative to the stock image, with improved performance and appearance.
Highlights:
- Removed the 'Welcome' logo and replaced with stock android boot animation.
- Replaced stock boot image with overclocked version: Credit goes to TJ Style @ Modaco.
- Minor framework modifications (got rid of annoying white status bar, and misc images).
- All packaged applications remain, but I will add or remove any upon request.
- Enabled hardware acceleration.
Notes:
- Firmware should work with compatible devices such as: Cherry Mobile Superion, Commtiva Linx N700, Olivepad VT-100, Spice MI700, and Camangi FM600....but I do not have these devices, so I cannot verify. As always make a backup before installing any custom firmwares.
Known Issues:
- You may receive an error from Swype upon initial use to the effect that 'it's not meant for this firmware and may be limited'. I haven't had any issues since seeing this, and have disregarded it for the time being.
- Root condition has been known to intermittently go away. Remedy this by running Super One Click again after you've flashed the ROM.
****************************************************************************************************
I'm currently working on a Vanilla AOSP port of Gingerbread for this device, and this will be the main focus of my effort. I will try my best to answer any bug reports or requests for changes to this firmware, but won't make any promises.
As always a big thanks to everyone in the Android community that shares they're knowledge and support.
To install this firmware use ClockworkMod to flash the zip file. (I use version 2.5.1.2). Information on rooting and installing an alternative recovery partition is available here.
DISCLAIMER: I cannot be held liable for anything you do to your Viewpad 7 (or equivalent device). Make sure you are comfortable with recovery tools, such as ClockworkMod, before proceeding.

Update (August 22nd, 2011): I've deactivated the download link until I get time to put out a better update with ITE support.
If I am not wrong this device is similar to Commtiva N700/ Spice Mi-700/ Olive Pad VT-100.
Nice to hear someone taking the initiative for development on this device
I've added the compatible devices I'm aware of to the first post. I may take advantage of CM scripting in the Gingerbread port. Will update when I have time. I've attached a screenshot from the froyo firmware below if anyone is interested.
I've been using it for the past two days without any issues. I borrowed a SIM card from a friend today to test the data connectivity and call function. Both work flawlessly. The battery life isn't as good with the CPU overclocked, but it's worth it for the extra boost of performance.
I was planning to get this device with my first salary which is few months from now
BTW, To make things easier you can use Cyanogen 7 which I think is having support for similar hardware.
Can MeeGo 1.2 be ported for this Device?
It will be releasing this April.

Looks good.
But I prefer Android with its vanilla looks.
Can LCD density be used with this Tablet? does it work?
Please check that out.
Nice to see someone finally making a custom ROM for this device. Would be nice to have something like HyperDroidGBX for the HD2 using AOSP, Redux, CyanogenMod.... that's one hell of a nice piece of Gingerbread.
Hopefully the Viewpad 7 will get its own sub-forum and your ROM will be the first in it.
Cheers!

I don't know enough about MeeGo to comment, but I imagine it is possible...just not sure how feasible or worthwhile it would be to port it.

I think if there's enough community interest XDA may create a dedicated forum for these devices. We'll see.
Thank you for your work. On the Russian forum owners viewpad 7 Your beginnings of this work has generated enormous interest. Would you in their versions of the firmware to include more locations? Good luck in your work. Sorry for the English.

Adding a Russian keyboard and locales would not be difficult if you know of another ROM that is using them in Froyo, or perhaps someone has them on a repo somewhere?

I have clockworkmod recovery installed, works, and overclock boot.img installed works too.
My VIEWPAD 7 has still stock ROM with Chinese handwriting touch, if I flash this custom ROM, do I loss Chinese handwriting function ?
Does all wifi, bluetooth, GPS, 3G network, multi-touch remain the same ?
Also, I am looking for App2SD script, to extend my internal /data/apps -> mSD card (ext2/3/4) paritition too.
thanks, cheers

I order a viewpad 7 from amazon on saturday. I had some concern about it and was wondering if I made the right choice. Now that I see that you are working on increasing its performance, I feel comfortable with my choice now.
I install gappinstaller v5 on a archos 70 and 101 with no problem by following the step by step direction. I dont have my viewpad 7 as yet but I hope the installation goes smoothly. I donate
I flashed it to a WellcoM A800 and the GSM radio doesn't work anymore. Whatever I do it indicates that I'm in airplane mode. I tried with three different SIM cards with the same result.
Please advise...
Thanks

The ViewPad finally arrived this morning. Got it all rooted, CWM'd and the ROM installed.
Nice work!
The wife will love it when she gets home tonight!
I'll definately let you know if I come up with any suggestions.
Well, one suggestion now:
move all the non-essential apps from system to data so they're easily removable.
Actually I can do that myself in a little bit...
Looking forward to Gingerbread!
Thanks again!

[Q] HTC HD2 Clone from China

I bought an HTC HD2 Clone from China (T Mobile). He is under WM 6.5 and I want to change the ROM. The problem is that I do not know if it's possible for this phone. In the Device Information I can read this:
BSP Version: ROM Version-V01.00; ROM Date-Sep 10 2010;BOOT Version-2010.08.01;PCB Version- V01.
In Radio Module: Serial Number: HT9BWNW00617; Revisin Data-2010.08.01; Model ID: T8585; Manufacturer-HTC.
In Hardware: CPU Model-QUALCOMM82...; CPU Speed-1024MHz; RAM Size-576MB; Nand Size-1024MB; Data Bus-32Bit; LCD Color-65536; Resolution-480x800.
It has not SD card but 8Go of Internal Memory. I can not find any information about Radio Version and I do not know if I can flash it. Can you help me, please?
I am pretty sure it lies about RAM and CPU .
No, you can't flash normal ROMs on it. You're gonna have to figure out the way to flash it (probably their tools?) and cook your own ROMs.

There are no tools to check it????
Try it out...
Well I do not know if it will work or not, but might be worth a try. Is to try a SD version of an Android build here. Try downloading the files and put them on the phones memory and then open android. The instructions are pretty simple for the installation and opening. I am currently using a build of AmericanDroid. It is pretty nice. I do not think it will brick the phone, because it does not self boot unless you download an app to make it do so. You will have to use a file explorer. I recommend using total commander. It might be worth a shot

I think the biggest issue is that if you have problems with flashing, there is no way to restore the stock ROM. I would not expect a flash to work, but one never knows with clones.

No one has posted anything for a Chinese clone that I am aware of. You are going to have to do the initial work yourself, using the instructions on how to update the "normal" HD2 to Android, then going from there. As I said before, the big problem in my view is what to do if the Android load fails. With the genuine HTC phone, you can simply flash the original ROM. Do you have a ROM file you could flash, in case the update goes bad?
When I looked at those phones, it was always with the assumption that if I ever bought one, whatever came with the phone would be IT - no upgrades possible unless they came from the same manufacturer.
just do it...
you should not need to worry about radio too much (other than you won't get the best working connection/wifi/battery usage/etc. without the proper and corresponding radio, but you can just load the android folder onto your 8gbs and hit the clrcad/haret & see what happens. Why'd you go with the knock-off? The original is worth the pennies.

If the clone is using different hardware it simply won't work; the drivers are built for the stock HD2. Then how does he get back to stock? Doesn't he have to install Maglor or something like that to work dual boot Android? (Sorry if I have names wrong, I don't do Android on my HD2).
This happened to me when I bought an HD2 from someone in the Atlanta area. They sent me an HD2 clone, I did some research and found that it's really not an HD2 but a phone made to look like an HD2. After some work with paypal and ebay I was able to get my money back. My best advice to you is send the phone back and get a real HD2.
HD 2 clone.
There are generally 3 types of HD2 clone:
single SIM, resistive screen
dual SIM, resistive screen (exactly what I have myself)
dual SIM, capasitive screen (rear camera hole is at different place if compare with original).
If you describe what you keep, probably, I could help you.
I rarely use 3G, and slow core provides me long life battery, dual SIM is very useful. Besides, I DO NOT like capasitive screen as I often use office software, that's why this clone is ideal for me! I've purchased standard size extended battery on Ebay and it lasts 4-5 days of regular usage. Yes, there are some issues with it: camera should be abt 3 MPx, you can't watch high bit-rate movies etc. But all other options are good enough!
Good luck!
I don't trust chinese clones. If u have enough money buy original phone.
HD2 CLone
Hello,
I'm a quitley happy owner of the HD2 Clone (CECT8585).I'm using it since a month, and it works very well with WM 6.5. I have a lot of program like Tom Tom 7 and accessories. Is fast and stable.Using Dual Sim does not kill the battery.Any way, I'm traing to use Androind on it.
I tryed in 2 ways.First one with FastRam android, secon one with double booth. Both gave me the same error.Just froze after loading CLRCAD/HARED in Linux loading Bar-
I thought It could be a Radio problem.I have the last version of the system wity resistive display. Any help from you side?
Thank you.
You have to roll-back, no other way to my mind!

It's not complicated, I just wish Google could translate that page better, Merimobiles are providing a firmware update guide this week on their site so it should clear things up. I'm defintalely going to try this newer firmware with the guide.
How is It better? sensev7 or rena3? I bought the sensev7 but I don't know. The screen resolution for sensev7 is better, but doesn't have many other things for exemple bluetooth and microfone

DO NOT USE FWTOOL TO INSTALL RECOVERY!
TOUCHSCREEN WILL BE DEAD!!!
if you can flash 2.3.3 ROM for LY-F521 posted on 99pad, please try clockworkmod
http://androtab.info/files/tcc8803/cm7/20110615/LY-F521-8K/
I think LY-F521-8K-recovery-signed.zip can be installed from stock recovery.
I don't have LY-F521, so I can't test it. please use with care.
if it doesn't work, please reflash 2.3.3 ROM.
don't use this file on non-2.3.3 ROM or on other tablets. it may brick your tablet!

by the way, CM7 is just for my fun. I like dev work and I don't care result. I think almost same level on tcc8902. refer following thread

if someone test CM7 for LY-F521 and basic function works, I'll add LY-F521 for my target. but don't expect progess, it's my spare time project.
I'll give it a try in a day or two when I have more time to play with this thing. If one day there's working CM7 for LY-F521 I'd be glad to help you out

[Q] MIUI+PerfectPesov1.7a on MultiROM + WP7 themes port

Hey guys!
I recently checked these forums and saw the amount of MIUI vibes going on.
I am going to try either Fundooz's or MasterShefis' MIUI ROM on my Optimus One, but I have two questions.
Will either of them run off sdcard using MultiROM while PerfectPesov1.7a is on internal? I have a 4GB SDcard in my O1 and I already have a 1gb partition from previous MultiROM use. I've removed MultiROM since, but I'd put it back on if I can get MIUI to boot off SD!
Also, are there any MDPI WP7 MIUI themes? I've seen abaolutely stunning ones, and if I get MIUI, I want one!
I'll sneak in a third question, is there TellMe (wp7 voice commands) for MIUI or CM7 roms or Android in General? Surely someone can replicate it if anyone wants to work together to try, that works

Thanks for all your help....
Have I posted on the wrong place? Or is it so that there is no one kind enough to help me? It has been more than 24 hours, but I have not had any responses.

Hey,
I'm quoting some fellow RCs I asked about this:
Oh a Rockchip tablet?
Oma's ROMs for the RK2918 should be able to help

I used to own a couple different rockchip tablets, only place I know of developers working on those is freaktab.com have him talk to finlessbob who knows the ins and outs of these.
Or here on xda have him search for the nextbook premium 7, there are a couple devs who worked on that tab here and made a few custom ROMs, I and a few others tried to get cwm on it and failed but the way you flash those things it isn't needed for custom ROMs kernels etc, its all done with the flash tool.

Good luck
Hi Germainz,
Thanks for the reply....
I tried Oma's ROM and my tab was unable to move any further to first screen during boot. I also searched a lot for other custom ROMs but could not find one which is the reason I decided to prepare my own custom ROM with at CWM recovery. For this I extracted recovery, img from updated.img (obtained from vendor) and uploaded it to builded.clockworkmod.com.
The question now is: Is this the correct way of obtaining stock recovery image for upload to builded.clockworkmod.com or should the recovery.img only come from device?
Thanks for you help...

That is the correct recovery, but even if you get it to build, you may have a tough time getting to work on your tab. With the other rockchip tabs a fellow RC used, no one could get it working. Again, a recovery may be nice but it's not needed for what you's looking for.
Also, even though these may all be similar tablets, flashing custom ROMs from one to another most certainly won't work, so try to port the ROM you wants to your tab using your vendor's ROM as a base then flashing it with the flash tool.
There are some useful tutorials on xda about porting ROMs, too. Good luck again.
Thanks...will get back to you should I need any further help....

Hi Germainz,
Finally, I have a working CWM recovery on my device now, it is a generic one and has been obtained from androtab.info/clockworkmod/rockchip/rk2918/. The only issue now is I am unable to use mouse with it and am looking for ways to resolve it.
Thanks,
Amit
