[ROM] CyanogenMod 7 for the Samsung Galaxy S II (AT&T) :: V7.1.0 RC1 (9 Oct 2011) - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

CyanogenMod is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
Code:
#include <std_disclaimer.h>
/*
* Your warranty is now void.
*
* I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
* you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
*/
CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. CyanogenMod does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
All the source code for CyanogenMod is available in the CyanogenMod Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to CyanogenMod, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.
Instructions:
Note: this build as a Release Candidate has been superceded by the latest nightlies due to many bug fixes. This thread will get a new Release Candidate as soon as we feel it is ready for Release.
First time flashing CyanogenMod 7 to the Samsung Galaxy S II, or coming from another ROM?
Root the device and install ClockworkMod Recovery. Instructions are available here.
Perform a NANDroid backup of your current ROM.
Format the system, data & cache partitions of your device.
Perform a factory reset.
Flash CyanogenMod.
Flash CyanogenMod again (without reboot - this is a bug we will fix soon).
Optional: Install the Google Apps addon package.
Upgrading from earlier version of CyanogenMod 7?
Perform a NANDroid backup of your current ROM.
Flash CyanogenMod (your Google Apps will be backed up & restored automatically).
Issues?
Experience issues? Please provide the following info:
If the device was hard reboot, please provide the file "/proc/last_kmsg".
If the device was soft reboot or is "bootlooping", please run a logcat and provide the full output.
Please use Pastebin when possible.

Upon review of user feedback and bugs that have been discovered with what was released as 7.1.0 stable, we no longer feel the 'stable' tag is appropriate for this rom.
The download is still available, however it is now being treated as a Release Candidate, rather than a proper stable release.
Sorry for all the confusion, and any issues you may experience. We will release a 7.1+ once we feel the ROM has matured to a truly stable status.

New, this is a stable release. CM7 v7.1.0 was just released and it included support for many new devices the ATT SGS2 being one of them

Battery life? It sucked on the captivate. No smart dialing function either

The battery was pretty bad for me today. I have gone back to nightlies. Love this rom though.

Were you full when you flashed or did you recalibrate after? That could potentially make a BIG difference.

read the instructions....can i not just flash codeworkx kernal w/ CWM with Odin v1.7....just connect in download mode, then flash the .tar?

explain please. i never calibrated my phone when flashing new rom. is it a must? theres times when i flash a rom at 60-70%.

The way I understand it when you flash a rom it comes in thinking whatever the battery has on it at the time of the flash is 100%. If you see that the battery has been "fully charged" on your phone then you can usually shut it off and plug it in and see the battery that pops up will not say its fully charged. You can let it charge (while off mind you) and when it gets done and says 100% turn it back on and run this app https://market.android.com/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration and then run it dead. And yes, its a must, I generally do it after flashing a rom. You can't complain about battery life if this hasn't been done, the phone won't ever truly have a full charge.

Your always going to want to flash a new nightly with 100% battery to get the best battery life and full potential. I'd recommend when flashing your next nightly to give your phone a full charge, download the app from the market battery calibration, let your phone charge to 100% and follow the instructions so that your battery gets calibrated, the longevity of it will span a lot farther.

did nothing on the infuse - works on the sgs2.

So here's my question, I'm really loving the Stock Camera application, and in my previous experience with CM7, the camera app leaves ALOT to be desired! I'm sure it's the same but what is everyone else doing to continue using the amazing camera app that Samsung sent it with?

can't do it - the stock camera .apk uses a different framework than CM7 does.

Just installed this, and wow, extremely underwhelmed. Seems like a step backwards compared to the latest touchwiz, I dare say. I think the problem is, this has become a one size fits all rom... May be great for some older devices, but does not do the S2 justice. :-\

This is an AOSP-based build with extra contributions from many people which you can use without any type of Google applications. I found a link from some other project that can be used to restore the Google parts, which can be found below or elsewhere in the thread. I've still included the various hardware-specific code, which seems to be slowly being open-sourced anyway.
Visit the CHANGELOG for a full list of changes and features!
All source code is available at the CyanogenMod Github! Send pull requests with your changes!

woot!!!!!!
You guys are going to enjoy it.
Aw man, no car dock default audio level on the headphone jack bug fix lovin? It's a froyo "feature", when the dock is detected headphone level is set low because, according to the comments in the source, the user cannot adjust the volume so they set it by default. And the default is so low as to render the dock totally useless.

Yes! Thanks for the hard work!
THank you cyanogen. You and your time are the best

i noticed that a new nightly was also released today abotu the same this thread was created. comparing the two, are there differences? is this rc1 the same as the latest nightly build? http://buildbot.teamdouche.net/nightly/passion/cm_passion-07112010-034628.zip
Been waiting for this for ages. Thanks a lot.
What Linpack score does this get?

Hi. My gf was bought a Galaxy Win (GT-8552B) yesterday, and I wish to install a ~decent~ rom (the stock rom is very laggy). I have a Moto G and contribute to solve some bugs on custom roms based on CM11, and I could help the project in next stage (yeah, I cant install a ultra-experimental rom in girlfriend phone lol) Can explain what's working? (dont need be very detailed, only to we know the stage that we are)
Well, congratulation for the start. This phone owners will be very happy with CM11.

The OP mentioned it on thread at Android Development section. But, since I tested it, let me explain: the rom just boots to home screen. Nothing else is working: no camera, no audio, no wifi, no bluetooth, no carrier signal, only one SIM. But in time they will get it to work. :good:

Is it possible for you to disclose all steps?
My questions are :
1. What VM Software you used or directly developed in Linux?
2. If Linux then I586 or x64 version used?
3. Partition Schema. Specially /home.
4. Total VM Space for developing CM for one instance?
5. Version of Java used.
6. Version of make used.
7. Version of python used.
8. What API version used? 16 or else?
9. In repo what repository you have downloaded?
10. For breakfast what device name you used? delos3geur or I8552?
Regards
Used ubuntu 13.10 as dual boot 100gb partition
64bit
Cm11 takes approx 45gb space
For everything else simply followed k2wl's guide in his device repository posted in general section

Note:
You want to use a 64-bit version of Linux. According to Google, 32-bit Linux environment will only work if you are building older versions prior to Gingerbread (2.3.x)/CyanogenMod 7. However, as of 10.1 CyanogenMod does not build with 64bit host binaries on some systems. You will have to set something like BUILD_HOST_32bit=1 in your environment when building on such 64bit system.
Hopefully you have set the environment.

Yup. It's finally here. CM12 with basically everything* working.
*Working:
Pretty much everything:
WiFi (Reports of 5Ghz being broken)
2G/3G/LTE
Camera (back and front-facing and LED flash, no 4K recording as it's not in CM yet) (new issues with camera connection error, and quality)
Sound (little bit quiet)
Screen (duh)
Proximity, Accelerometer, Gyroscope
SDCard read/write
GPS (can drain battery really fast)
*Not working:
Wireless Charging (it works but it's very, very slow)
Bluetooth - (All of it)
NFC - (Might be a battery killer in current state, uninstall or freeze it in TiBu)
Installation Instructions:
*NOTE*: You must be Bump'd for this to work. This requires flashing via custom recovery.
1. Download this and GApps (recommended PA GApps here You are going to need to use the Lollipop ones, this is 5.0)
2. Put both on Internal Storage
3. Reboot into recovery
4. BACKUP CURRENT ROM
5. Factory Reset/Wipe
6. Flash CM12 (no need to wipe System)
7. Flash GApps
(Optional: flash SuperSU Lollipop Edition for Root. Download here)
8. Reboot
9. ???
10. Profit

Word. I'm in. Very excited for this.
I guess I could say...first? Haha.
Wow this is unexpected.
I have a nexus 9 and i haven't even seen CM pop for it yet... LOL
Could this day get ANY better?!? I contend that it can not!
The only way my day would be better is if my sold item on eBay would get paid. Haha. But this is great guys. Thanks so much for getting this up.
Presumably, the same fix for BT and NFC will work for both CM11 and CM12, once it's uncovered.
I can't believe this is about to work as well as CM11. You worked so fast! Can't wait to try.
BT, I think I have discovered. NFC. not quite yet.
I didn't read and tried the alpha! Haha. I got data and WiFi working for a second by dirty flashing cm 12 over cm 11 until it had constant reboots.
Now that that fun is over I'll wait for the beta to finish building and uploading.

Why not use the CM 5.0 Gapps?
Pa gapps are the ones that are most updated ......they do a great job of getting them up right away
Great job, thought you seemed a little quiet, been working your tail off. Thanks for this big time. Keeping an eye.

Does this add support for GSM sims?
Saved me the trouble of making it myself
So am I correct in saying that this is not as usable as the CM 11 build?

Right. Until the Beta is finished building all there is for now is the Alpha which is going to have issues likely beyond what CM11 carries.

Care to explain? Always wonder how these things work, and how much coding a ROM Dev does to fix stuff like broken BT.
WOW. Great job man. This is definitely going to help my jonesing for a Nexus 6, lol.
What a time to be alive! ?

Amps are still busted, so the speaker still gets distorted at high volume.

It's been like this since cm11 will this ever be able to be resolved?
Is the LTE signal icon still busted too?

Miscellaneous battery drain
I've been flashing the CM official nightlies for the last 3 days and everything has mostly been OK (with the exception of the sound distortion and 2 random reboots). However, I am noticing massive memory drain that was not present in the KitKat nightlies. The big culprit seems to be the process Miscellaneous (see screenshot). The big seems to be related to WiFi usage. When I disable WIFI, the battery drain seems to be resolved.
I read online that this Miscellaneous battery drain was a big problem with the lollipop release when it first came out, but that it had been fixed since then. Anyone experience this problem?
Yeah I wonder if CM will ever squash the horrible sound bug (distortion). It is a deal breaker for me.
CM12 and Root.
So I've read that Cyanogenmod is turning over all "root" level priv access to privacy guard, but at the moment, certain apps like TWRP Root, Titanium Backup, etc...require root and don't appear to work.
So thoughts on what we are to do in the interim? I've flashed SuperSU, but it doesn't seem to work.
None of these apps currently work...for me. Am I missing something?
Seems this is now fixed as of the last nightly.
Greg
Can anyone try fm radio app, is it working? Thanks
Enviado do meu One M8
Awesome! Thanks for this!
Great to see official nightlys here cm and cm based ROMs have been my home for so long now.
Best regards to you guest and keep up the good work
I have installed the 01/08 nightly and everything is going pretty smoothly. I have root access using SuperSU after enabling it in developer options. My only problem right now is that the stock Messaging app won't send texts. The arrow that you press to send is grayed out. Third party apps work. I am on Sprint, if that may be useful
Is there any kernel that works well with the latest nightlies or is everyone using stock kernel?
did flashing 12 change anybody's recovery from twrp to cwm?

Mine is still TWRP. That is strange if yours changed
Checking for updates using "About phone > CyanogenMod updates" does not work for me.
Is this something that has to be enabled at a later date or just waiting for servers to come up?
Atm I'm just rebooting and flashing straight trough TWRP but I like the convenience of just clicking update as I get a notification.
Anyway I've been using this since first daily, I was used to built in superuser in CM11/PA but using SuperSU atm as I had root issues when first nightly arrived.

another thing I found on pre-nightly releases was a problem restoring apps from titanium backup
For the issue with no restores working from Titanium Backup you need to flash the most recent SuperSU. Just download the app, enable root for it and choose to install through TWRP.
I'm not having any LTE issues, I actually have gotten better battery and signal then on GPE which is crazy.
The only issue I have is that the battery stats shows 100% as "Awake" under miscellaneous but I'm getting great battery life which is odd

Mind elaborating more on your great battery? Is d2w working flawlessly? Are you using stock or custom kernel?

Update from latest Unofficial to first Official through OTA was unsuccessful. Now flashing from CM Recovery and will flash GAPPS as the Google services are not working after the OTA update.
edit: gapps still not working after flashing official build + gapps from recovery. Any chance to fix it without factory reset?
Solution: "you can clear the play services data to fix that"

update: I got better performance with the first official build compared to the latest unofficial.

there is a way to fix the crashing gapps but it will take mashing the screen to get there just wipe the gapps services data and that fixed it for me.

Thanks a lot @abdulhkeem, it worked and this saved me a lot of time. :good:
My phone seems very hot under the camera, expecially when leaved attached to AC power... much more than on KK...
I made all the possible wipes/formats and checked with betterbatterystats but I cant find anything strange...
Thanks so much for this @Lysergic Acid!
I have been following since November last year and all I can say is what an amazing achievement!
Congrats to you and all the great devs that helped you get to where you are now.
Can't wait to see what is to come with the official tag on the ROM now.

Jleoz.
lost root
Looks like I lost root with the official build. Yes, the root access is enabled in dev options. Tried rebooting, disable-enable, re-flash, still does not have root.

Can't wipe data
I'm unable to wipe data/factory reset from the new cyano recovery. Same thing if i try wiping from settings, is someone having same issue?
@Hazard- Me too, but also I can`t install any *.zip package.
it says unable to open efs/metadata (more or less). I thought efs folder is untouched on wipe, isn't it?
No APN data available so mobile data can't also be enabled.
Nice!
Great work @lysergicacid !! REALLY THANKS!!!
Now I can only hope, that my S3 will also get Official.
I have just written to @JustArchi , would you tell him what you have done to get official? Thanks!
