[Q] Swype Question - HTC EVO 3D

I was wondering if anyone else had this happen to swype after rooting or doing a factory reset, it seems that it defaults to spanish the first time I use it. I couldn't get the words to come out right, so I went in to the settings and it was set to spanish. It was the same way when I first got the phone also.
Do most people use/like swype??

Strange
I have never had that happen and I have used Swype since the beta testing days. My old Evo 4g was rooted and I had Swype there and never had any issues. I like Swype, but I think it was better back in the early days. I seemed to be able to type faster with fewer mistakes or wrong words. I think they are trying to make it too smart. I do like the updated version that does away with the popup suggestion list. I still have trouble sometimes getting it to remember certain custom words and email addresses, but I have tried other similar keyboards and always end up coming back to Swype.

[Q] Swype not writing what I want...

So I think this is a problem. Sometime when I swype certain word, I don't get the word I want. It's almost like the swype program had its own idea of which word I was trying to spell. For example, it doesn't know the word funny. I had to add to the dictionary. It also keep giving me "knorr" when ever I tried to write know.
I can only think of a few possibilities. (1) the original swype dictionary database isn't an american version (maybe uk english). (2) my touch screen calibration is off.
I'm am using axura's build, version 2271. I wonder if anyone is experiencing similar problem. I have tried adjusting the accuracy/spewed meter to no avail. I have used swype before on my hd2 (wm6 + android version) and never had this problem even though the screen calibration on my hd2 android was off.
Any advice, guys? Much thx.
I think couple of older versions of swype had that problem. Upgrade to newest one and it is much better. Just sign up for beta at their website and install the new one.

I had the same problem with a couple of different roms. I just retrained it. It does make you wonder tho
Like the 2nd poster said, some versions of swype are missing words. If you go to the Bionix V discussion thread, there is a new version of Swype. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that would work fine with Axura. I would flash that if I were you. I had that problem and it pissed me off until I found out about it (in the SBG thread somewhere, I think).
download latest swype.apk
go into your files on phone, with w/e u use.
system/lib/
delete swypecore.so
go to system/app/
delete swypetips.apk and swype.apk
go back to system/lib/ make sure the swypecore.so is not there, if it is delete it.
reboot, you must reboot.
now put the new swype.apk in system/app/
now use swype installer from www.beta.swype.com
to update your language files, and BAM you got you a new language pack and new swype.
Much thanks for all the help, guys. One more question, do these beta expires? The last couple of them I have (on my HD2) kept on expiring which was really annoying (but not as annoying as dealing with the bad words my swype is outputting).
Thanks again.
Update: Alright. Got it all sorted out. Much thanks, guys. This was driving me nuts. The newest swype also look pretty nice too.

I've had similar issues, but seemed to only occur when using a new input method or on reboot. I use swype and once I switched to the Evo swype apk, the problem stopped. Probably doesn't help your case, but I know you're not alone.
I know this may not really fix your problem but really just provide an alternative solution, you could use Swype. Swype is much faster (in my opinion), and you still have the option to type normally with it. You would have to download the beta from Swype's Website, it doesn't take too long to register for the beta.
I have had this problem too in the past. I'm just curious, do you use handcent? The only time I've really seen this happen for me is in handcent's popup windows, but I have no idea why it happens, and honestly, it doesn't happen often enough for me to want to try to figure it out. But I feel your pain, when it does happen, it's quite annoying :/
Happens to me all the time... I use Smart Keyboard Pro.
See my thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132927
Wish I could figure this out. I type super fast and it's starting to get veryyy annoying.
Wow so does mine LOL I thought. I was crazy.

Ya i had major problems with this on the stock keyboard. I also had just general problems with lag sometimes in the stock messenger app, as well as receiving duplicates of text messages. I formatted the cache partition in cwr and used the gingerbread keyboard in the market and have since have had zero problems (so far lol).
Same Here!
I'm having similar issues. When I "wake" my TB up and try to go in to type a text message, email or any other thing that uses the keyboard, the keyboard shows up and allows me to type, but nothing shows up on the screen.
I've tried using the GB keyboard from the Market (which I REALLY like), but no matter what I try, I seem to have a problem. I thought it might be WidgetLocker interacting badly, but uninstalling that doesn't work. I thought it might be because I was using Go SMS Pro, but uninstalling that didn't work either. I went back to using the stock keyboard (which I really DON'T like), but to no avail. The only thing that DOES seem to work is to reboot the phone.
This is getting a little ridiculous! I don't want to have to reboot this phone every time the keyboard decides it doesn't want to work! Anyone have any advice?
Just FYI, I'm not rooted. I haven't gotten that far yet. The only thing I've done that isn't stock is to run Go Launcher as opposed to Sense. And this issue was happening when I was running Sense as well.

[Q] Why is my keyboard inserting random smiley faces??

I am getting very frustrated with my phone. When I am texting my keyboard randomly inserts smiley faces. I have narrowed it down to when I press the Q on the keyboard. However it happens all the time and is really annoying. Anyone got any advice how I can fix this.
Are you able to switch to different keyboards and experience the same problem?
It only happens on the keyboard that comes on eclipse. The other one I try.. swype doesn't do it but I don't like the swype keyboard. Guess im gonna have to find another keyboard.
Well I just installed ics keyboard and it still happens this is annoying as hell.

Was the keyboard working successfully at one point and then all the sudden, stopped working as expected?
Before you go installing other apps, etc I'd suggest making a nandroid backup. That way if you do quite a bit to the phone before finding how to fix it, you can restore the phone to your current state and then apply the fix.
Once you make a backup, I'd suggest wiping the cache to see if something got stuck. It might not fix the issue at all but if it doesn't, you can restore from the backup anyway.
Also, is your sig correct, you're running Eclipse 1.2?
Well its been happening for a while now don't remember what caused it. I'm actually running 1.3 right now need to change that.
Actually I'm running ics keyboard and its not happening anymore. So hopefully it doesn't happen anymore.

Same here man... It is happening a lot less since I upgraded to the ICS keyboard. Might want to try that. However it still happens like once or twice a day. Better than 100.

Weirdest Android Glitch You've Experienced?

While it's fresh in my head, just figured I would ask you guys what weird glitches you've experienced using Android.
I got a text from my girlfriend about a half hour ago that was completely displayed in Cyrillic, and every text I've gotten (including other friends) since then has been displayed in Cyrillic. I tried translating them to see if an app had like, gone rogue or something, or maybe there was a translation feature I wasn't aware of that I'd accidentally enabled.
But nope, my X2 is displaying random Russian gibberish every time I get a text. I'm so confused right now. I didn't even know there was a Russian stock version of Android

The worst one I ever experienced was on froyo if I recall correctly when sending texts at times it would send your text to a random person in your address book

Nope, haven't experienced this, but have experienced (on different ROMs) receiving multiple duplicate text messages from people.
What are you on? Stock? CM7DX2?
Ciao!

I'm on stock 2.3.4. It blew my mind though lol, and then stopped. Everything is normal now. Very strange. Maybe some kind of new malware? The last year or so has seen a huge increase in malware for Android, iOS, and Macs.

Yeah I'd never heard of it either, I assumed she was just messing with me, but not so much. I used to get some weird stuff like you where it would think I was pressing parts of the screen was I wasn't even touching the phone, but I fixed that with a dalvik cache wipe I think. Usually Android is fairly stable, so when I started seeing the Cyrillic I half expected my X2 to BSOD

That's totally awesome! In such a bad bad way though. Maybe you shouldn't have bought it outta that guys trunk? My aunt has a printer that likes to print some things in Chinese.
I mean does a factory reset change things back, or uninstalling whatever you installed last etc?
NM on what the fix was, see that now. That's puzzling.
On the Droid X, a few roms use a custom boot menu to overclock/undervolt, recoveries, that sorta thing. It was triggered by pressing a volume button at a blue light during boot. One rom had this blue light shine twice (possible glitch), and I accidentally pushed at the perfect time to apparently load android (CM7 Kang) and the boot menu at the same time. I saw both screens overlayed, but the CM7 boot animation was double size, and distorted in colors. I was able to see the phone load, and ready to unlock, and I decided to pull that battery for fear of corruption. Never happened again (tried to replicate situation).

Wierd Keyboard Issues in Texting Apps

So i have an HTC One, its bone stock and only 3 hours old. I love the phone minus one issue that im having. I did a search and saw nothing on it, so forgive me if its been pointed out or addressed.
If i use a non stock messaging app, in this case TextFree, typing in landscape mode it does some wierd things. Primarily, my "I"'s become "U"'s. if i go to portrait it types fine. Actually, most of the letters on the right side of the keyboard come out as something else. Anyone else seeing this?
Never noticed however I almost never type in landscape... Under settings->language and keyboard->HTC sense input->advanced there is a calibration tool maybe that will help.
