[REQ]True 1X/3G patch - Motorola Photon 4G

Looking to find a patch that would allow me to see the true 1X/3G icon appear. Running a rooted stock ROM. I saw the Alien ROM includes a fix but there has been no DEV support or updates so I would like to try and maintain stock with the fix. I would attempt this myself but have no idea where to start.

I'm pretty sure that it is just a graphics edit, ie. replaced images. The images are probably in /system/framework-res.apk. Just unpack that, put the images from Alien ROM in there, and then pack it up again and push it to your phone.

I'll try it, thank you!

quick question, for the life of me i cant find this

just do i use my recovery image to install a theme? like rename theme to update.zip, power on holding home and end, click update.zip....
so im pretty sure about that but...
my rom/radio will still be there untouched right?
like this will only replace the image files or w/e is needed to make a theme?
thanks a bunch!
edit*
unlocked hero, modac. 2.9, not the permanent recovery image!
There are 2 ways to flash an image. When you go into recovery and choose "Flash update image" you will probably have 2 options.
1. Apply sdcard: update.zip
2. Apply sdcard: choose zip
Method 1. Move zip file unchanged to SD card and choose 2nd option then browse for the correct zip file.
Method 2. rename image file to update.zip , upload to your SD card and choose option 1
It doesn't affect your rom/radio etc.
Always best to do a nandriod backup before installing a theme, so that if you decide you don't like it or it doesn't run smoothly you can then do a nandriod restore which will put everything back to the way it was before you installed the theme.
thank you very much!

i beg to differ. the rom is affected, as parts of the rom are exchanged with the parts modified to create the theme.
basically the images that are used to create the gui are altered and then repacked. if you extract a theme update file you will find several apk's of system apps inside, extract these and you will eventually find the images.
usually to create a theme the original app from the rom is used and only the images are altered, not the application code, so it won't make any difference for the functionality, but it leads to themes being tied to one version of a rom, and working only with that rom version.
thanks, yea i wasnt sure if i clicked update.zip, if it would erase the whole rom, and only put the alteered stuff on... leaving me without a functional rom
ahah but now i get that it only erases the parts being added!
thanks

That's basically what I meant about functionality and images
if either of you know anything about creating themes could you check over into the dev section and answer my questions?
thankss

Beyond my knowledge. But if I was to do a theme I would download a theme and have a look at all the image files and work from there
and your a genious.. lol it looks like someone who knows what there doing put together an apk with all the images, so all i gotta do is edit the colours.. then update it like the person who updated that theme did! thank youu

old black bar notification them for Dj steves 1.0 froyo

Hey all,
This is a black notification bar for Dj Steves froyo 1.0 only and blue wifi icon as the stock is black. Will need root and root explorer or alt file explorer.
1. Download notificationbar1.0.zip.
2. Extract services.jar and framework-res.apk from zip to SDCARD.
3. Backup current framework-res.apk and services.jar in /system/framework.
4. Mount /system/framework as RW, and copy services.jar then framework-res.apk from step 2 into the folder.
5. After file copies, phone will reboot and you will have black notification bar and new wifi icons and white text!
To restore old services.jar and framework-res.apk, simply perform same steps except copy over the backed up files.

Its a matter of editing services.jar and right now any edits I've made causes my streak to lock on Dell boot screen.
1. Download notificationbar.zip.
2. Extract framework-res.apk from zip to SDCARD.
3. Backup current framework-res.apk in /system/framework.

I actually switched to Launcher pro. Lot more options and I like the interface alot more than AWD.
The other part is changing density on the screen back to 160. This is in the build.prop and need to change the line ro.sf.lcd_density=160.
Nice work mate keep it going
Ok as promised I have added white font to the notification bar. Right now when you receive a text or plugin usb the message is in black font. I set it to white but some other file is overriding. I'll post another update when I have it settled.
I'm going to try this now, thanks.

Great little mod but ive figured out that it stops flash from working in the browse for some reason. Reverted back and all fine. Would love it if flash worked too

I am running the first update-new, old base band. The thing is though, the two files should have no effect on flash. Tonight I am going to be installing the update-newv2 and will see what difference that makes. DJ_Steve has not added flash into the rom nor has he modified either framework-res.apk or services.jar.
So in your words "just says install latest flash" and did you install flash again? Is it throwing an error when trying to reinstall flash?
i get a link to install flaelsh instead of the flash animation. I click it and it redirects me to the market place where strangely i have to log back into my google.mail. Then it just shows uninstall so i do that then reinstall it and still no flash.
Didnt think those files would effect flash until someone mentioned the same problem, both of us reverted back to the original files and everything ok again.
Have noticed after first boot when changing files all my widgets dont work straight away and orignal wallpaper etc is back. Also have to log back into google.mail sync etc.
Will have another go and reboot a few times to makes sure because i really like this mod
Edit: working now, rebooted after uninstall and bebooted after reinstall, great mod just need the bottom menu in black now to finish it off. Cheers for the help

I was poking around in there for based off another thread but this is the thread i am looking for thanks!
Also I was able to recreate the flash problem after updating to v2. It seems on Steve's new v2 that once reinstalled flash still dont work. So this problem only affects those on the new v2, anyone using the first update-new should be ok to reinstall flash and continue streaking. I will get this solved shortly and look into meltus' thread for the rest of the font color.
Interesting its working fine now on v2. Follow all the steps. Then copy over services.jar one more time and power cycle phone. also make sure system, and framework are mount RO after copying the files.
The culprit seems to be services.jar. For whatever reason it doesn't play nice with the new build.
I had some guys on irc test this. Both on v2, one guy had no problems with flash after following steps. Other guy had the flash problem. He fixed by uninstalling flash, reinstalling flash, reboot phone and testing flash again.
Thanks homeiss and egrouse for testing!
Awesome thanks, I had just finished moaning about the ugly taskbar in the Froyo beta when I found this. The taskbar looks great, just needs some work on getting the rest of the text white, and get the icons looking like a set. Though would be great if the whole pulldown was dark or grey to match if possible. Installed fine on my Streak, reinstalled flash from the market and all is good.
Really appreciate the work quikt.

Q/A About Flashing a custom theme or parts of it.

If I am running a deodex rom, that is sense 3.0, can I flash customizations such as a transparent Rosie or custom lock screen from a diffrent deodex rom?
Should be able to without a problem unless its states on the mod thread its only compatible with certain roms. But always make a nand before flashing any mods for a safety net incase anything does get mixed up or just to revert if you wanted to.

the suggestions in the first post reply are great.
in addition here are a few thoughts which came to mind: different mods are done on different files in the android system. two mods might change the same file or two mods might change different files. if the two mods both change the same file, swapping that file in and out means you'll only get one or the other version of it modded but might have to find a version of that file with both mods performed on it.
ideal beginner solution would be to at least open up the .zip file which contains the mod and check with file is being replaced on your system. it'll give you a good starting point to gauge from as the more mods you flash the more you'll see which files are being modified.
ideal advanced solution would be to understand how the file was modified and perform the modification yourself .. this takes more time and labor but leads to the greatest control over your system. if you're interested in this route, SteelH has a great list of [HOW-TO] guides in the EVO 3D themes & apps board which detail out the exact place to change code in order to accomplish the mod.
hope that helps!

Atrix ROM ports!!

Ive Noticed that the DX2 Has number of atrix ports and a couple of roms.. Any how i would love some more support than CM7 for the photon. I know we only have a handful of wonderful devs for the photon and they can only concentrate on so much at once.
I am wanting really bad to contribute..Can some one show me where to brush up on my skills I am wanting to attempt to Dev. I know IT HAS BEEN ASKED i just want to go to the right places...Just seems like there is not enough interest in the photon in general.. I have all the free time in the world right now...
Id like to thank all the wonderful Devs in the photon forum and for making CM7 boot!! Some good ISH!! i cant wait!!
If you want to make a custom, stock-based ROM, it is fairly easy. A number of us on the forums just think that it is not very necessary to have so many ROMs when there is little-to-no changes between them.
Anyhow, the basic gist is like this:
Find some app/theme you want to include into a ROM. Extract the ROM (.zip), and then place those files into their respective folders. Generally, themes are in framework-res.apk files and go in /system/framework. Apps usually go into /system/app. Keep in mind if you want to port a theme, you will have to resize the images and rename them (usually), which involved extracting the .apk, modifying the necessary files, and then pushing them back into an unextracted copy of the .apk (to deal with signing issues). When you are done with your modifications to the ROM, highlight/select all of the folders and files (usually META-INF, system, boot.img), and compress them into a zip archive. Bam, new ROM made.

If you guys want I could upload my recent creation.
Its yays deodexed rom with the alien theme embedded in. I can't seem to get the blur launcher to work though and I could slim it down. Remove ringtones notifications and apps if ya'll want...its nothing special just themed no special tweaks.
Don't think you can add tweeks without unlocking the BL...

Custom Boot Animation for YP-GI1 Any ROM

I have searched up and down the net to find exactly how to allow us the ability to customize our boot animations. Finally came across this post here on XDA that made it all possible. Original thread
I have included a flash zip file to allow the ability to add custom boot animations. I will be providing a much robust solution in the near future, but for now I must share what I have. I have tested this and it works. That being said you know the drill, use at your own risk.
Installation instructions:
Download and flash in recovery
Insert your own bootanimation.zip in the system/media folder
Reboot and enjoy!!!
I built this flash tool using Aroma for our Player to allow you to choose from different bootanimations. Please let me know if there are any bootanimations you would like to see. I can also make them, however they are a bit time consuming so let me know what you are thinking and I will determine if it is worth the time and effort. It helps to have either video or gif files to go off of. Anyways this flash tool was originally developed by betoNL here: Original Thread. I had to modify it to be used on our device and changed all the boot animations to fit our screen. I will be doing a lot with this once I find the time. For now please enjoy and feedback is always welcome. Also for the other Galaxy Player owners, please let me know if you want one developed for your devices? I can modify it to work with pretty much any Samsung device.
Updated: 23:24 PST 06May2015
Fixed Brazil Animation; All boot animations verified to be working correctly
YP-GI1_BootAni_All.zip
Future updates to include:
Updated Sounds
Categories
All Android Bootanimations up to Lollipop
Custom Animations designed by myself
I will be removing some of the animations that I think are a bit lame from this first version
Clean up the theme for easier viewing
Try to implement a preview pic of the bootanimation within the program
resize and reformat pics to shrink the size of the zip while maintaining the quality of the pics

Thx...
Thanks
