looking for a rom with long term stability - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys, my friend just got this phone, and i wanted to set it up for her. i know custom roms usually seem to have an expiration date, before whatever memory tricks they use start to rape the phone.. so im looking for something with long term support.. actually, what im really looking for, is something that has android 2.2, is stable, rooted, and will let me use the hacked camera app (the one where the power button takes pictures, and you can use it during music, and take pics under 15%), and lastly has voodoo sound.. can anyone help point me to a rom that can do this?
thank you all so very much
also i was wondering, does anyone know what 2.2 base rom is the most stable?

ComRom 2.1. Every good tweak, voodoo away, and rock solid stable.

wth oops ,

power washed ed05 is probably by far the most stable froyo rom I have used. The problem is everything froyo based is no longer being supported. Com rom 2.1, evil fascination, pw ed05, geewiz, all are great froyo roms tho...you will have to try them out yourself and determine whats best.

Hello, I don't own a Fascinate, but is trying to do rom upgrade for a friend. Which of those you mentioned is open source rom?
And for the non froyo rom, is the GPS working as good as Froyo (as in accuracy of 10m or less)? Do you have to load new bootloader or else you get rainbow issue? In your opinion, which fascinate ROM version (Froyo or GB) is more stable?

honestly if you want open source, flash cm7.1, then flash jt's latest kernal, or glitch v13. gps is the best I have seen on this setup...you might run into a couple small bugs, but nothing I would consider a deal breaker.

his lates is 11/3 three finger fix...it was posted in tsm pool party thread and cm7.1 thread. battery life is decent. I normally get 14-20hrs depending on usage. about 3-4hrs screen on...that's overclocked to 1300mhz and undervolted -50uv across the board.

NIce. I don't see his 11/3 three finger fix kernel anywhere on the OP of both of those threads. Do you know which page it is on? Search feature didn't find it.

I would suggest the PowerWashed Gingerbread. I've been running it for several months now and have had little/no trouble.

Asking those questions, imo you are probably better with the RC's instead of nightlies. If there is anything big that is added to CM, most likely slayher will come out with a release to update the TB build with it. Nightlies can be fine one build, and then next build may not even work.

Good to know. I'll go that route. What is a RC? New build?
Would I have to wipe everything or just flash over?
Also...the kernel that came with this newest CM7 release....is it good or should I go with the latest leanKernel?

The newest officailly released version of CM7 is RC1.4, I don't know if it has been updated over here, but you can get it here
http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php?392-ROM-CM7-for-Thunderbolt.-RC1.4-Updated-7-29-11-20PM-EST
RC stands for Release candidate.
Coming from an older build of CM7, you don't have to wipe unless you have problems after. Coming from a different rom, you must wipe everything.
The kernel is all about choice. See how the stock one runs for you, speed, performance, batt. life, etc. Then try the leankernel. Each phone is different and may react differently to each kernel. That's more of a trial and error game for everyone
Flashed CM7 RC1.4 yesterday. Loving it so far. GPS is a little slow to lock on, but that's about it. I also would like to see a 6 bar signal strength meter.
I was coming from BAMF GingerREMIX v2.1.

Coiming from that you should have wiped everything. If you didn't and aren't having any problems though, keep it how it is. Don't know about that one, but you can have the statusbar transparent and the clock in the middle

There's only one I know of, maybe two....
DroidTh3ory's ROMs use modified kernels. Synergy and Chingy's ROMs use Ziggy's. Those clock all the way up to 2GHz. Unless you're willing to extract them from one of those ROMs, you're kinda stuck because Imoseyon hasn't updated his Sense kernel in eons and it's got issues running on newer builds. I think he's waiting on the source release since GB should be somewhere around the corner, based on the quality of the leaks and their frequency as of late. If that's the case, his kernels should kick some very nice ass again.

[Q] Unable to install VZW apps on PWGB v2.0b3 ROM

I recently installed PowerWashed GB v2b3 and it appears as though I now cant install apps specific to Verizon Wireless (e.g. NFL Mobile). On the web version of the Android Marketplace it show my phone as "Mid-Tex Cellular Samsung SCH-I500" and says its incompatible for any of these apps.
Ive loaded several ROMs in the past on my Fascinate and have never run into this issue before. Is there any workaround to this or do I need to find a new ROM if I want these apps?
Thanks!
Ofcourse you cant install vzw apps...it's not a vzw rom. This rom was ported from the mezmerize.
Theres no mention in the initial post that VZW apps dont work and Im obviously not versed enough with this stuff to just know it should be an obvious limitation.
So is there no workaround to this? I pay $10/mo for NFL Mobile/VZW video, so I guess Ill have to go to another ROM if thats the case.
Thanks.
If you read thru the pages in that thread it was mentioned in there, but thats alot of reading lol. Sorry man your going to have use a different rom Im pretty sure. Maybe go back to powerwashed froyo?
Ah bummer... I did scan through the first few pages, but I guess I missed that one!
While I have your attention and you seem to know a bit more about this than I do; you mind offering suggestions to a couple questions?
1. Is there another GB ROM available youd recommend thats just as stable but would allow the use of VZW apps?
2. If no to the 1st question, of the available Froyo ROMs, would PW be the one you'd recommend?
Thanks again. Really appreciate the info!
Since all of the gb roms are leaked versions and not vzw specific, Im pretty sure they wont support vzw apps. Im not certain about aosp roms tho. As for froyo, powerwashed, geewiz, and com rom(I think?) will support vzw apps. My favorite combination on froyo was, powerwashed 1.2 w/ 0808 pbj kernal. Has awsome battery life, very snappy, and fully functional.
Thanks again. Ill give that a go.

Update: No noticeable change.
Edit: You could try this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1278838 I have confirmed that verizon apps do show up and install properly. It actually seems way better on our phones than EH09 does, might have to work on a theme for this!

[Q] Coming from a captivate - which ROM is stable/gets the best battery?

My sisters blackberry is crapping out, so i picked her up a fascinate for 70 bucks off of craigslist.
I myself have been using a captivate for the past year and a half, so i know the process of flashing cant be all that different.
My main question is which rom i should put on there. I want something very stable, and something that gets great battery life.
I can say from experience that with my captivate, when i used roms that were ported from other phones (I9000 and CM based roms), the performance was good, but the battery was awful, and i usually ended up with bugs. (for example, im running pinnacle (KH3) right now and my battery life is awesome. I go from 7am to 3pm with some usage and im only down to like 70 percent.)
So what im looking for is a custom GB ROM that gets awesome battery life, and something that she wont come to me and complain about in a few weeks because of some bug. If theres only a froyo rom available that offers what im looking for, then thats fine as well (although not preferred).
tsm pool party with glitch kernel 12 in development forum or 13 from the glitch app provides really good battery. Im currently on vanilla gb v8.1 from rootzwiki with glitch kernel rc13. seems good so far.

All mtd based roms provide decent battery life...although I got the best battery life with powerwashed froyo w/ imnuts 0808 pbj kernel. I would get a steady 36hrs battery life...with mtd roms I get 16-24hrs, which is plenty imo and the performance is second to none. as dawman said vgb8 is solid, I just don't like the fact the rom has no widgets in the pull down menu. tsm pool party is sweet w/ the live weather app...but for some reason I end up back on cm7. cant really say why, they all are good roms. have not tried miui yet...

Whats considered really good? Coming from the captiate forums, people talked about cm7 having good battery, and i just didnt see it. My phone would drain very quickly even when in standby.
Releases intended for captivate, vs I9000 and cm based roms werent even close. I probably would get more than double the battery life with a captivate rom over a cm rom.
This is why im scared to use a rom that isnt intended for fascinate. If it really comes down to it, i think i would rather just use a really good 2.2 rom. On this device, i really dont see much of a difference.

whats mtd stand for? and is powerwashed based off of an actual fascinate rom? I may end up using 2.2, simply because i personally wont be using the phone, so i need to to be stable and have great battery life.

[Q] aokp vs cm9

I'm currently running cm7.1, and really love it. I'm also really curious about trying out the ics roms and don't know which one to try. has anyone run both? which one did you like most and why? also, if I do a nandroid backup, is that the same as a windows image backup? ...meaning I can reinstall cm7 and glitch kernel, then flash my nandroid backup and be right where I was before I changed anything?
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions &
Read the Forum Rules Ref Posting
Thanks ✟
Moving to Q&A
Yes you can restore a nandroid like you said as long as you are on the same ROM.
This is kind of an opinion, but I prefer Teamhacksung, as it is clean and bug-free.
ok cool. sorry about being in the wrong forum at first. so one for team hacksung, anyone else? I just want opinions as I don't think I have the time to try all the ics roms right now
aokp is by far the most solid ICS rom. its more how cyanogen use to be....lots of options to customise. THS cm9 is vanilla, meaning barebones.

This subject is opinionated and the OP should install both for a day to determine what he likes better.
Personally I used AOKP for the last six months, Yesterday I switched to CM9 experimental Linaro Build.. In my views way better than aokp..

Why?
i have the infuse but i started off using aokp switched to cm9 its been about a month.. goin back 2 aokp as of now cm9 isnt like cm7, i like tweaking and customizing as much as possible and i love the navigation bar aokp has..
Ok cool I think I'm about ready to try some out. One last question, I keep seeing things about how it's not easy to got back to cm7 from ics? Can someone give me some insight on this incase I don't like ics? Something with the different file types? I also want to keep my eh03 radio if I do end up going back to cm7
I'm now a little confused, after reading the guide for installing ROMS, in particular the ICS ones, arent all the ICS Roms based on what is stated- MTD CM9? So is there a difference aokp vs cm9? I guess what would be the large differnces between any two for example? Different kernels?

well i got impatient and went ahead and did it lol. i went with aokp 40.1 and devil kernel .79. the first try was a disaster, what seemed to work went straight to crash and reboot when waking from the lockscreen. i thought it was my oc i was messing with so i turned it back to stock volts and frequencies. low and behold it did it again but this time would not boot up, would not flash anything from recovery, would not format anything from recovery, it was totally bricked. i even tried reflashing cwm though odin and it was a no go.
finally after a few hrs of gathing info, i flashed the stock froyo rom and it unbricked it and i tried aokp again. this time i used aokp build 40, and devil kernel v.72 and everything is beautiful and works perfect, rock solid stability with 1200mhz multiplier oc, 110% fsb oc on liveoc totaling 1362mhz i think. the ics launchers suck and are laggy for me, i dunno why but go launcher is smoooootthhh and so is everything else on the phone. i cant find anything that doesnt work, im not regretting this or looking back at all, thanks a bunch for the help guys. im also pretty sure its snappier and quicker than cm7.2 was for me on my 1.3ghz overclock and glitch 13.1

ive seen it but was a little wary of it lol. for those wondering and addicted to voodoo color... at first i was worried i would loose the deep color and gamma control that i have with voodoo color, but the device color options do a really good job with it and there is a gamma control and it works great, no washed out colors or anything of that nature. im pretty hardcore on my vivid colors so i have the gamma maxed out minus a tad of green but it looks great.. to me.
for the guy who originally mention v0.85, so far its working great, cleared cache, dalvik, and ran ultimate kernel cleaning script then installed and it seems to be running great. the only thing now is the long term stability test, over a week ive had zero freezes FCs, or any issues with .72, i hope i can get this with .85. it seems a little snappier and nandroid is working again. thanks a bunch for the link, a few hours of searching for it and google still didnt help me. ill get back to everyone on the stability of it for me, running 110% fsb oc on nstools and slightly undervolted. im sure theres a ton of info already on other threads but ill still report back. thanks guys
edit: im still having issues with bln, is there a quick fix with it? it worked right away with my botched install of 40.1 and .79 kernel, witch was completely unstable, but now on 40, and .85 its still not working, any ideas? also on first boot from cold soft keys were unresponsive but seem to be working now. im not complaining as i know there are newer versions of the devil kernel but im trying to find a very good balance of functionality and stability.
