[Q] Screen looks washed out. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just finished backing up my phone using Titanium Backup Pro. I backed up all my user apps. Then applied a filter, to only show the system apps. I then backed up all the green coloured system apps individually. It was my first time attempting to backup my data.
When I got back to my home screen it was washed out looking. Like an overexposed image. It affects everything. I factory reset all data in CWM, flashed to stock, and tried two custom roms, and its still the same. I'm thinking its a GPU issue. But I'm clutching at straws, hoping someone knows a fix.

Sorry cant post links, but if you change the hxxp to http, you can see my notification bar.

sounds like the screen mode (settings>display>screen mode) is set to dynamic.
try changing it to standard.

Oh yeah, I tried all the display options. A full reset should have fixed any problems there also. Thanks anyway.

Something similar happened to me when using chainfire. If your using it uninstall it maybe.

Window animation problem

Hello,
I have enabled window animation in Spare parts. This was with VillainROM6... From then I was trying different ROMs and now I'm on VillainROM12. The thing is that from the time of VR6, I'm unable to turn off screen animations. I can do it in settings, spare parts, reboot between changes, screen animations are still on
Any idea how to get rid of them?
Of course I tried reflashing and I was using various roms - all the time wiping everything... I'm not using Titanium backup to restore settings and apps...
Thanks!
If you are doing a full wipe and then flashing a new ROM it should be clean. Are you sure that after you do this (say with VR12) you still have the animations on? Do you see that they are on in the settings or what?
Nope, it is showing that they are off, but I still can see the animation...
It looks like it will not wipe this setting...is there any way how to do it manually trough adb?
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
Well, both of those ROM's is Villian.
You could try ChocolateEclair 2.0, or something.
And maybe you need to change the settings and save? or restart the app / phone to make the changes take effect?
*edit*
Never mind, wasn't paying attention.
~sorry

[Q] No Lockscreen on my 3VO?

Edit!
I fixed the problem. I was going over my apps and their settings and I noticed that one of them, battery indicator pro had a lockscreen off feature which was flipped on. Totally weird! But I have my lockscreen back! Woot!
End edit :-D
Out of curiosity, has anyone else experienced this?
My 3VO's Lockscreen has disappeared. Legit.
When I press the screen lock button it simply doesn't. It turns the screen off, but it doesn't actually lock the phone.. as a consequence now the phone will do random things in my pocket and its annoying as hell.
I've tried a number of things to restore it just short of a full reset. That I'm trying to avoid because I use this phone as my main one and to restore all my setting would suck major ass.
Please someone shed some light on a solution for me?

Have you rooted and frozen some of the HTC APK's? (There's one for the lockscreen, I'd imagine) That's what it sounds like. If not, I'm not exactly sure what you can do aside from a factory reset...

I haven't even touched the whole perma-temp root thing. When we get permanent root then I'll crack this Guy open. But till then.. I'm not interested in it. Besides I actually like the sense 3.0 locksceen.
I seriously hope I dont have to factory wipe this thing. If i tell the phone to use apassword or pattern or pin code to lock up then the screen comes back .. but that's a pain in the ass to always unlock the stupid thing

Changing the lock screen wallpaper

So, I can't seem to be able to use a picture from the gallery as the lock screen wallpaper anymore. I used to be able to do this but it suddenly stopped working today. Any thoughts on what the problem could be?
Using a picture from the wallpaper gallery app still works though. But I can't add the picture I want to that gallery.
What happens exactly? It just doesn't show the gallery option?
Sent from my LG-P769 using xda app-developers app
So I've tried going through both the settings screen and the gallery. Everything will seem fine, it will even bring up the wallpaper changed notification, but when I go to the lock screen, the old wallpaper is still there. I'm at a loss so any help is appreciated.
Edit: I'm on a P769BK, if that helps.

I have the same model. This happened to me after rooting a few times. You may need to re-run the root and reboot a few times. If that does not work try a factory reset.
Honestly I would do a factory reset
Sent from my Lg Optimus L9 P769BK using xda-premium
Imma try both methods when I get home. Thanks for the suggestions.
Well it turns out I didn't need to do either of those things. I just used titanium backup to wipe the lock screen settings app's data and it worked like charm. Thanks anyway for your help.

Thanks for the tip, I've struggling with this issue for days I didn't want to do a factory reset it's just to much for a simple wallpaper change.
I did a wipe form titanium... and Voila it worked flawlessly.

[Q] Wallpaper stuck on landscape after unplugging from Lapdock

...yes I STILL use the Lapdock
Anyway, after I remove my phone from the Lapdock it freezes and goes crazy for a few seconds as usual, but this time as well as others it seems to have left the wallpaper in a landscape orientation, even when I turn my phone upright for protrait orientation.
Have a look:
http://i.imgur.com/nbCcBtA.png
http://i.imgur.com/RjZsXsk.png
What is especially wierd is what you see on the second .png when I try to change the wallpaper to see if that does anything, the selector square has turned into a rectangle as if the phone was still on landscape. The icons, widgets and all else do rotate, just not the wallpaper. I am left with no other options as the settings for wallpaper on stock 2.3.6 leaves me only the option to change the backgroind image and it seems that I am the only one on the interwebs that is posting this issue.
The ROM and kernel is stock, I am using ADW Launcher but I am certain that that is not the culprit, I removed it but the problem persisted. I am also using Ubuntop 1.1 something or other but I doubt that is a culprit either.
Any ideas? Thanks so much in advance.

What happens after a battery pull?
Are you able to access recovery with the stock rom? just thinking about a dalvik wipe or a data wipe/factory reset? (maybe some bits of software not acting properly and a reset might help)
I don't have any experience with the Lapdock but maybe it is a software glitch?

The problem persists after a battery pull and re-insertion. Since it wasn't the VERY first thing I did, recovering the img of the current rom didn't work as the problem occurred BEFORE I saved a backup, although the problem DOES go away when do a from-scratch recovery using a fruitcake system/kernel/webtop img.
So would wiping the Dalvik cache not mess up my setup or anything? I may consider doing that as I'm not looking forward to doing a clean wipe every time this problem happens, and it happens VERY easily.
Thanks
Wiping Dalvik won't change any settings or cause any problems and it might help.
I am still thinking that your problem is a software glitch - one workaround might be to fix the wallpaper in the 'horizontal' position by unticking the 'auto-rotate' setting (not sure if this would effect your lapdock experience though )
One last workaround would be to reinstall your Rom without a data wipe (so all your settings/apps are still there) and see if that helps.

Dalvik cache is wiped and the wallpaper orientation option was ticked and un ticked but the problem STILL remains. I suppose my next step is to re-flash the ROM, but I'm hoping that doing so won't wipe and restore webtop to stock (it's on Ubuntop instead).
Here's another kicker! I don't have this problem on LIVE wallpapers, orientation works just fine there, only on static wallpapers am I seeing this issue.
Anyway, I've looked into debugging the display on the native OS to try to a fix together, I'll see how that goes...
How do other apps behave? Also stuck on landscape or not?
I'm thinking it could be a launcher issue after all if that's the only place where this is happening.

Thanks for the feedback,
The behavior of the other apps are good, no issue with them whatsoever.
I have already uninstalled ADW launcher and stayed stock for a few hours and that didn't resolve the issue. I shall do it agin but this time reman in stock for longer.
I got the launcher BECAUSE the stock home screen doesn't rotate and I prefer to mount my phone sideways in my car. What is baffling is that it DOES go to landscape orientation when I plug the phone onto the Lapdock. Weird.
I was wondering if anybody else had this problem but the more I search the more I find that I may be the only one with the isssue, thus I'm thinking it can be due to my personal phone setup rather than a glitch. If I DO find a fix, I'll put it up nonetheless...
I have the exact same issue with Atrix 4G and ADW launcher
I have the exact issue you described and I did the same but ni good results so far. The only difference is that i was using the multimedia dock instead of the laptop dock (which I was thinking to buy). I just got the phone yesterday and the dock today and when testing for the 1st time i got the wallpaper wrongly oriented.. any help?
I installed after that the wallpaper wizardii app to see if it could fix it but no luck..
Thanks a lot.

Buggy wallpaper configuration. Try this, it might help.
- Install GO Launcher EX and set your wallpaper.
- Every time after undock the phone, press menu > wallpaper > press lock and and unlock for few times.
It work for me.
Just to chip in that I had the same (or very similar) problem: Nottachtrix ROM, ADW Launcher, multimedia dock. Swapping out the launcher to GO Launcher EX per AeroMiku's suggestion has worked for me ... for the moment!

[Q] Half of my screen is covered with colored lines

Hi,
The screen is covered on one side by colored lines. If I accurately guess where input buttons are I can still navigate via touch screen so that is still working. I just cannot see the entire desktop because of the colored lines.
The most interesting is that when I start the camera or when i start a hd video (in landscape) the color lines just disappear and the screen look perfect until I close the camera or video. It looks like on gpu the screen looks perfect.
I already did Factory Reset and flash a stock rom using odin but no result. I also tried "Force GPU Rendering", I opened my phone and verified the display connector unplugging and plugging it with no result.
Is possible to set the phone to use only the gpu?
Is that even possible?
My phone is a Galaxy S4 rooted with kitkat 4.4.2

Jonn

as it looks like its not a hardware problem, you should try a factory reset, or install fresh rom and check if it fixes the problem.

did you flash complete stock? or custom rom through recovery? in case you did it through recovery you should try to flash complete stock using odin.
