Theme GMail and SMS app on Stock Froyo rom - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I'm working on changing the status bar notifications and such and got most of them changed, the only ones I can't change are the SMS icon and the GMail icon. I know most of the icons are in the framework-res which I used the UOT to get the flashable zip and changed the files to my liking. Since there isn't a "stat_notify_email.png" and "stat_notify_gmail.png" in the typical (framework/framwork-res/res/drawable-hdpi) section is there a way to change the gmail.png and the sms icon inside that folder or am I going to have to somehow modify the apk for the gmail and sms app?
Hopefully I explained that correctly.

[Q] Transparent background of system app and notification

I'd like to change the background of system app and notification area with Transparency...
For system app like phone, contacts, setting...
We can change the background as we change semc_bg.png and semc_general_bg.png in framework-res.apk and SemcGenericUxpRes.apk.
But NO Transparency~~!!!!
For notification area, I tried to change shade_bg.png in SystemUI.apk But Nothing changed.
Could you somebody helpl me which xml and attribute I should modify for this two transparency~~??
I see someting strange indeed. It has something to do with core system apps or not.
I have changed in framework-res.apk the file activity_title_bar.9.png.
In every system app (like contacts, sms, settingsmenus) this changed png isn't visible.
But it is changed because in NinjaMorph, root explorer, Traffic statistics, (SE)Office Suite I see the new color (changed png) in the activitybar.
I think this problem is similar with the problem rleon describes in his post above.
Android uses PNG's from framework-res apk, SystemUI.apk and others not always in the same way.
Developer question I think. I hope some of them will give a reaction on this.
Kind regards,
Vintiem

Change icons shortcut question

I know that you can set the TouchWiz to a customizeable grid and replace the icons at the bottom, but what I want to do is when I click on the messaging icon it takes me to handcent. I like handcents app but I like the stock messaging icon better. Is it possible to redirect the shortcut to handcent and dolphin for the browser?
I'm rooted btw and thanks.
You need to go to system apps and get the icon with an explorer (I love RootExplorer) from mms.apk and put the icon in place of the handcent icon. That make sense? I can't remember the names of the icons, but I want to think they are in hpdi or something. Don't quote me on file location though.
Alright I did that. This is what I did.
Went and extracted the messaging apparently, extracted handcent took the icon from the messaging apparently and put it.in.handcent and renamed it ic_handcent.png like the original, compressed handcent again as a zip and renamed it apk but when I try to install it keeps saying application not installed.
Any clue what I'm doing wrong?

[Q] Mod to change the 4 main icons (dialer, contacts, sms, applications) with ICS ico

Is any mod that changes the 4 main icons (dialer, contacts, sms, apps) with ics icons? or that changes all icons not entire theam?
get the icons you want. I think you need to resize to 72x72
go to systems/apps and get the following Contacts, Messaging and TouchWiz30Launcher.
Contacts - has the phone and contact icon
Messaging - has the messaging icon
TouchWiz30Launcher - has the home and application icon
Use 7 zip to open up the files. Drop your icons into \res\drawable-hdpi
Then copy them back to systems/apps.
Hope this is what you mean
Thx! is working!

[Q] Changing an icon on an app

I know how to change the icon in the apk but what I want to do isn't as simple.
I am using GO Contacts at the moment. Its a great replacement for the default dialer. My issue is if I change it in the apk when it updates it will go back to the default icon. I have tried placing the modified icons in framwork-res.apk but using the names that are used in the apk are not going to work (app_icon_contact.png, app_icon_dialer.png).
I have also added them to the launcher.
I am guessing the name for the icon will be something like com.jbapps.contact.png
Anyone have an idea on how to do this? I don't want to keep pulling the apk everytime the app updates just to change the icons.

app notification icons

Howdy all! I use a (slightly) modded Yahoo mail app on my HTC M8 (Android 5.0.1).
In the past, I would be able to insert my own notification icons into the apk, sign it, install it, and it's good to go.
I just updated to the latest version of Yahoo mail and made my notification png mods per usual.
Only when the mail icon shows up in the notification bar this time, it's the outline of my custom png, but completely whitewashed (I will post a screenshot later). I know it has to be part of the app theme settings to completely color the notification png white, I just don't know what to look for or where to look.
Suggestions?
No one has any ideas?
