[Q] Possible to install themes with native theme app? - Xperia Arc Themes and Apps

I've been wondering for a while but is it possible to install themes using the native theme chooser app WITHOUT root. I also don't want to use things like ADWlauncher, pandahome ect..... Oh I also don't know if I have posted this in the right section or not.
Thanks

[Q] Create custom theme for STOCK MyTouch 4G

I have a stock MyTouch 4G, and I have no real plans to root it.
There is a one person that created a custom theme for the MyTouch 4G called Androidian, great theme, but I am very picky.
I want to create my own for my stock phone and wanted to know if anyone has any resources they can point me too.
Thanks,

Did you even read my question or is your default answer to just use that site?
Did you actually TRY and Google creating themes for MyTouch 4G? If I wanted to create themes for stock Android, there are plenty of how-to's, but I was talking about the STOCK Themes for a STOCK MyTouch 4G, not using MetaMorph or needing root.
I could be wrong, but I don't believe that its possible to create new themes for mysense at the moment, so the only way to do it would be to root your phone and either create a metamorph or modify the frameworks yourself. Either way requires root since you'll be modifying system files.
You mentioned the androidian theme. That also requires root to install I believe because its replacing some system files. Again, take this with a grain of salt since I dont pay much attention to the stock rom, and couldn't live without root.

Any themes for a non third party UI needs to have root access. AWDLauncher, Launcher Pro all of themes because they are 3rd party. It's easy to lay new icons into those.
It is physically impossible to theme w/o messing with files that need root access.
So yes i did read your post, no it cannot be done.

The Androidian theme does not need root access to install. It's in the market and uses stock theme picker to apply.

You can modify the stock themes but like the others said it requires root to pull the apk out and be able to modify it. Somehow Fyb3roptic did it and I'm pretty sure he did just that. I'd try e-mailing him and see how he did it.

[Q] skins/themes`

Is there a difference between a skin and a theme.
Skins are usually apk and themes are flashed.
Themes will change the dynamics of the entire look of your GUI. A skin changes the background and launcher look.

^_^_^
Can we use themes on a custom rom? Especially with some of the Rosies and lockscreens that have been modified. Will the skins graphics conflict with thosen
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
Themes are usually made for specific type of Rom ie (sense) and so on. Make sure thw theme you're flashing is compatible with the Rom.
^_^_^'s tbolt
So do you need to be rooted to load a skin/theme? As a non-rooted newb, is the wallpaper the only real thing I can change?

Theme yes, Skin no. There are several skins on the forum that non rooted users can download and enjoy.

[MOD]Change lockscreen background FreeX10 B4 (Morph)

This is tested on FreeX10 Beta 4. Make a backup if you want to test on another ROM. Please post if it works and what ROM you are on.
I stumbled upon this way to have a custom lockscreen background in the N1 forums and wanted to port it over to the X10... So I PMed rori~ (the original developer from the N1 thread) and asked him to help me port this to the X10... but he ended up doing the porting completely.
THIS .ZIP IS FOR METAMORPH - NOT RECOVERY
This morph allows for a separate wallpaper to be used on the lockscreen (like miui).
This morph replaces the original default_wallpaper.jpg in the framework-res.apk and mods the keyguard_screen_tab_unlock.xml in the framework-res.apk to use the default_wallpaper.jpg.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Make a nandroid backup because this alters the framework-res.apk.
1b. Make sure you have a backup of your wallpaper because this will most likely change it, so you will have to reapply your original wallpaper.
2. Install metamorph if you haven't already.
3. Create a folder on the root of the sd card called AndroidThemes.
4. Place CustomLockscreenX10_Morph.zip in this folder.
5. In metamorph click "Unzip/Extract New Theme" pick this .zip.
Now in the AndroidThemes folder is a folder called CustomLockscreenX10_Morph. In there use a file explorer to navigate to framework-res/res/drawable-hdpi and drawable-hdpi-v4. Replace the image in those folders with any .jpg with a resolution of 480x854 of your choice. (Some themes use the hdpi-v4 layout so I included that too)
6. Go back to metamorph and click "Apply All".
The phone may reboot, this is fine.
If the lockscreen wallpaper is not the file you chose reboot into recovery and clear cache and dalvik cache (first reboot after this will take a long time while the cache is rebuilt).
IF YOU WISH TO THANK ANYBODY PLEASE THANK rori~ IN THIS THREAD!
rori~ made this possible, I just made the metamorph .zip work with our phone.
*screenshot of lockscreen is the current default_wallpaper.jpg in this .zip*
*second screenshot is just to show the home screen wallpaper is different*

Some people would like to have this option.
It is an option available in Miui and some HTC phones, but I personally don't like Miui much, and some others don't but may like this MOD.
It's just to give people an extra option in customization.
Is it possible to customize the lockscreen in which way?
Widget locker app allows you to fully customize your lock screen changing wallpaper, sliders and adding widgets its paid app
Nice find of you don't want the app though

Yeah, I know about widget locker, I wanted this option without using an app, I wanted it integrated into the OS.
Thanks for the info though.
hmm, I've already been doing this for a couple weeks now through Theme manager, but it may be a custom option because I am running MiUI 2.3? Cool, though, this works for all other ROMs?

As far as I know Miui has this option, but most Android ROM's don't.
It should work with any 2.2 ROM based off of z's Beta 4 (as long as the framework isn't too different).
It would probably work with most 2.2 X10 ROMs.
cool, thanks been testing/running Miui for alittle while now so I kinda forgot if it was an option for other Roms. Well Im glad this is now possible, as I do like changing my lockscreen image! Thanks
Not working with MetaMorph, unfortunately .
However I just decomplied the framework-res.apk and did it manually . Kudos to you for the xml file .

facepalm bro. Dude, TripNMiui has a custom thing that does not require you to use metamorph if you want a custom lockscreen... look under your wallpaper .
Menu > Wallpaper > Lockscreen Wallpaper .
Good luck .
@bleached45
nice find!
but wht abt the size of the text / location of text on lock screen? can that be changed too? that would be useful...

Because they won't work on miniCM7. I also have my theme ported to miniCM7 and it doesn't work.
Myabe the problem is related with ODEX files. Dunno.

Themes are created in cm7 with the theme chooser, no need to replace framework anymore.
t-Mobile themes on MiniCM7
Just wondering...
I can install theme-apks and update via ZipThemer, but...
Regardless of which theme I install in ZipThemer, my lockscreen never takes on the new look of the installed theme...
I've scoured the web + xda and have yet to find an answer...
Really pulling my hair here
And sorry if I posted on the wrong thread
Regards gyzr
I do not use the CM7, but I'm wanting to create themes for it.
but this need testers.
I count on your help
So far, any theme.apk has worked on my x10mini running minicm7.
My only real gripe is with morphs from zipthemer...
I would be glad to be of service, as that is probably the only way for me to contribute to this awesome community...

Actually, the s5 has built in support for themes that (for some reason) was removed from the final version. Try this (if your rooted)...
Download the attachment below.
Put the apk in system/app folder using a file manager and reboot
Using a third party launcher, create a shortcut (normally longpress/shortcuts/activities) to the thememanagerlist activity and click!
Im working on trying to modify the launcher to include an option to launch the theme manager from the launcher settings. Unsuccessful so far though.
EDIT: you can download tons of themes that work with it by searching the note3 and s4 forums.

You forgot the attachment. I usually never ask this, but do you have a link to the themes? I can't seem to tell which ones work with this.
Oops sorry, here ya go https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxVhzq-d-t3fMGxaRWZZbFBMME0/edit?usp=sharing
Just search around for touchwiz themes, they are installed like normal apks. There are thread directories on the note 3 and s4 forums.

Thanks tp for the instructions. I was looking around for this to use on my stock rom, but wasn't sure how to do this. What third party launcher do you recommend? Would Nova work? Also, I am not clear on when you said to create a shortcut (normally long press/shortcuts/activities) to the theme managerlist activity? Can you please explain?
Also, do you have a stock kernel in a flashable zip format available? Please share if you do. I want to try some kernels for the T-Mobile variant, but want to revert back to stock in case I didn't like it.
As always, thanks for all your help! Great job with the Infinity rom btw, :good:

Thanks! btw, the themes app is in the rom if you are using project infinity. I just havent created a link to it in settings yet. I use Nova launcher, long press on the desktop and then select shortcuts/activities and then scroll down until you see theme manager, expand it and select the only activity that appears. It will create a shortcut on the desktop. Just click the shortcut to access the theme settings. In a future build of PI this will be built in.
