[q] Increase softbutton size with cmtouchpad - TouchPad General

Been running the 2.1 alpha and I'm quite happy with it. So thanks to the dev's for the awesome work.
But my fat fingers have trouble using the tiny softbuttons for the home, back etc keys.
Can the size of these buttons be increased? It doesn't seem that ADW themes affect the soft keys at all and I cant find any setting for there size.
I realize alot of people dont want big buttons taking up screen space but I have grown to appreciate the nice big Webos style buttons.
thanks!

Agreed.
I'd also like to see an option to move around to one of the other three sides. Like I'd like to have it positioned on the top rather than bottom.

U can move your status bar(inclusing soft button) to the top using adw ex
Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk

There is an option in the tablet tweaks that have where you can move it to the top.

Do you know if ADW EX can also modify the size?
All I've found so far is resizing of the launcher dock, and when I've tried a few setting it did not affect the soft buttons.
I do see in the setting under cyanogenmod settings you can move the soft buttons to the top.

U can move your status bar(inclusing soft button) to the top using adw ex
I have install ADW ex, the soft button and dock are show abnormal !
Anyone got same problem?

The status bar isn't part of a launcher; it's part of the OS/UI. As someone above mentioned, the bottom status bar is actually part of a set of tablet-oriented UI changes called Tablet Tweaks that were implemented in particular for the Nook Color, though obviously we're reaping the benefits now on the TouchPad as well! Perhaps the confusion about ADW comes from the fact that ADW's menu provides quick access to system settings as well as ADW settings?
Anyway, you can move the entire status bar back to the top of the screen in the Settings>CynanogenMod settings>Tablet tweaks screen. Just uncheck "Bottom status bar" and it'll be on the top. If you'd prefer the buttons on the right side, uncheck "Soft-buttons left". You can also select exactly which set of soft buttons you want.
There are two ways to change the size of the buttons: 1) I believe different CM7 themes can provide different size images; 2) You can change the LCD density to something higher than 160 (the default for the TouchPad's screen). The latter will scale everything, though, and might affect the usability of some apps, so be careful!

If you want to change the size of the buttons, you will need to choose a theme that works with the CM7 Theme Chooser.
I recommend this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311339
joenathane has a couple good ones.

I installed a couple of his nook themes.
They are very nice on the touchpad....but the softbutton is still the same size.
I'll have to wait for a theme...but at least I know what to look for.

Worked like a charm. +1 Thanks!

I use LCD Resolution (free in the Market) and change the value from 160 to 200 (the max on the TP). Don't forget to check the "Set on Boot" option. This actually makes everything bigger by 25% (noticable but not to terribly huge).
I love it.

An other option is to use button savior, it's an additional softkey toolbar with bigger buttons. A free version is available here on xda. Look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865525

the max lcd density is 280. you can manually edit or use any editor for build.prop. I use rom toolbox myself. but you can find it within build.prop as ro.sf.lcd_density. I've used it at 240 for hdpi themes. if the hdpi theme doesn't seem to fit right then just adjust the lcd density. you can use adw launcher pro to reduce the overall size of the icons.

Post your Nook Color screens!

Just a thread so we can post snapshots of our home screens. In case you didn't know, you can take a picture of whatever is on your screen by holding down the N button and quickly tap the volume down button then quickly release both buttons. Wait about 3-5 seconds and you will get a notification that you took a snapshot.
I will go first, also advise what you are using.
Zeam - Laucher (works great on the NC)
Fancy Widget - clock/weather
How did you get the Widget to work, Every Widget program I try including Fancy Widget wont show up on the screen..
Edit: NVM I feel Dumb now, Just long press on the screen and Add item.
O yeah what I'm using Took your Advice and loaded up Zeam, works great, Also I'm using Beautiful Widgets,
Either I did not understand the how to take screenshots or I am fat fingering this procedure.
I hold the N key down and tap the "+" key. All it does it keep going back to the default home screen.
Is there something I missed - my nook color is rooted.
You need to hit the Nook (N) big round key on the bottom of your nook and then the volume down key on the side of your nook. Not the on screen keyboard.

Here's my current setup. Running zeam for a launcher (thanks antoniouslj) with BeautifulWidgets for clock/weather. The wifi and brightness widgets are also part of BW. I like how it looks like the sun is raising an eyebrow towards the questionable activities of the background. Oh, and don't get excited about the marketplace on my dock, it's not functioning, but I figured I might as well have the placeholder there

Home Screen lagging functionality?

I've been playing with my friends android's and i've noticed that the atrix lags:
1) Pinch zoom on the home screen to select to which HS page i wanna go. Instead, we have to press the home button while on the center of the home screen to be able to select the HS page. (not sure if i made myself clear enough)
2) We are stuck in 7 pages! personally, I don't use all 7 pages and I don't like those extra empty pages taking up my ram (even if it's not taking up a considerable amount of ram, it still bugs me when others can just have 3 HS if they wanted to)
3) On the notification drop down list, others have the Power Control buttons to turn on/off wifi and that kinda functions. I know there are apps that add a shortcut bar on the notification screen, but it's not Power Control.
so my question is, Anyone know a way to overcome these issues listed? i can try flashing if necesary.

There are a few launcher apps that you may want to look at. The 2 popular ones are "Launcher Pro" and "Go". I think both of them can be configured for the number of pages you want.

Motorola included a few widgets that can toggle some of this functionality, but in the stock Atrix builds this is not available from the notification bar.
All that said and if you are a brave soul, you may want to check out some of the custom ROMs available for the Atrix over in the developer forum. The ROMs are generally much alike and free the Atrix from both Motorola and your carrier. The ROMs differ in there themes and minor features.
Hope this helps you and your friend get the most out of the Atrix.
I would check out ADWLauncher, most of these things can be customized.

i find launcher pro works the best for me. should definitely try that out.
Yeah, I've been thinking about Launchers, but I've tried launcher pro and I feel like it's taking even more ram. Because it's a launcher that is running on top of our stock HS, am I wrong?
I currently have Alien ROM on my device with the stock theme, because I cannot live without the one touch call/sms contact widget and also the ability to group apps on the app drawer. Tried the Alien theme and liked it, except for the mentioned "flaws"
Kill the blur launcher and use home switcher to set one by default. No more launcher running on top of another.

On mine with Launcher Pro I use two fingers to pinch, then keep one finger on the screen sliding it to which HS page I want to pick. I just figured this out based on what you were asking about. It is always fun to find some new feature like this that I didn't know existed before. With the stock home launcher from MotoBlur there is a capability to do it, but I long since forgot what that procedure was when I changed to Launcher Pro. LP has all the customizations you are asking for.

ADW Launcher - Resize the AB icons????

Hi all,
I'm sure all of you are flashing CM7 stable builds on your Atrix rite now and ADW Launcher is default in the ROMs.
I know our Atrix has a larger resolution (960x540) than most phones, so ADW's AB icons (the 5 icons in the dock bar) looks pretty small on screen, even though I set the size of AB icons to maximum 10. Anyone knows how to set it bigger than 10 in settings so that it would look nicer on our Atrix??? thanks in advance
Just adjust the DPI settings in build.prop. It will make Market act a little funny with some programs not being able to be downloaded or paid for, but you can adjust everything as big or small as you want. If you need Market, just reset the settings to 240 and yer good to go. I'm sure there are other alternatives but that's what I do cause i have 99% of my programs backed up with Anttek Appmanager, which is free AND turns anything you download and install into an installable .apk for a later date. I know, smexy. Kinda like TiBu except free.
Wouldnt that compromise the screen resolution and would make it all blurry since i basically fatten every thing up???

Yes, so I'd avoid that. If adw lets you use custom icons, you could always manually resize them on your computer. I use irfanview to edit custom icons that I use with launcherpro. 96x96 pixels is the average size. Try something larger.
unfortunately, i don't think ADW support custom icons, unless you install like a whole new theme with preinstall icon set in theme.....

ADW does support custom icons, just hold down on the icon and then hit edit.
also, you can get an app called OldMarket that allows you to swap between the old market which allows you to download any app, despite of your LCD Density (i have mine set to 180, high resolution FTW - phone has never looked any better)

Widgets not sizing

I just installed CM7 on my Nook and I'm trying to get my home screen setup. For some reason there seems to be a lot of wasted space between rows. Is there anyway to adjust this? My widgets are also getting stretched way across the screen.
You are using Gingerbread, not ICS, so no, widget is not resizable.
You can move it, you can stretch it and it snaps automatically in a certain region.
I know it's ugly, I feel you.

I use ADW.Launcher EX on my nook and it works wonderfully. You can.change the amount of columns and rows that the desktop has and then drag Widgets to resize them. You can also set it to use HDPI.Icons on the MDPI Nook and it makes them look big and clear. I would recommend spending the money on it, its worth it.

Nook Tablet Wallpaper Dimensions Are...

I played around with this in Photoshop for several hours the day I got my Nook Tablet. I found that the following dimensions will size your wallpaper images perfectly:
840 px wide x 1024 px tall
It's easy to test. Try sizing your wallpaper to these exact dimensions and copy them to your device. Then go to the *stock* Nook home screen. Press and hold to bring up the Change Wallpaper option. Navigate to your newly sized wallpaper image and select it. If it's like mine you won't even be given an option to size/crop. Like the stock wallpapers, it will only give you the option to Save or Discard because it's already sized correctly.
When using other dimensions I was always given the option to crop.
Hope this helps someone.

Google Image search has a nice feature that can limit results to a specific size, I find this useful for finding odd sized wallpapers.
Like so: http://goo.gl/yBPo1
I've found that using Zedge from the market and applying the wallpaper from Zedge itself sizes them perfectly as well.

I think the dimensions are probably more useful to people resizing their own photos to use as wallpaper. You can crop them to the exact size in Photoshop before sending them to your tablet.

I haven't played with landscape much. The dimensions I listed above take into account the default Nook Tablet home screen with the thick "daily bar" on the bottom, "currently reading" status on the top, and wallpaper scrolling between 3 home screens.
Since the device doesn't support a landscape home screen by default the wallpaper size will likely depend on the launcher you use, whether or not you have the status bar displayed and how many home screens you have if you set the behavior to scroll the wallpaper with the home screens.
Let us know what you find out.
I made several wallpapers at this resolution but, even after selecting the whole image with the crop tool, it still zoomed in on it. Has any one else experienced this?

I'm having this exact issue. Picture shows up perfectly on my lock screen, and if I go into the nook home screen from there it shows fine, but when I go into Go Launcher it zooms in again and stays that way until I reset it in the nook home.
Very annoying as it screws up the definition of my wallpaper...
I have been able to get mostly non-blurry wallpapers since I started using QuickPic to apply them. It's a great app, much better than the stock gallery app, so I'd recommend getting it in any case. And it shows up in the market without having to sideload.
For images I have just been getting ones from InterfaceLIFT in 1280x1024 resolution to make sure I have enough pixels in all directions and it works fine.
I think the difference I'm seeing (not sure if others are too) is between an image being set as Fixed (sorry, I can't remember the app I used to do this, but I did it via the main nook launcher rather than through Go Launcher) and having it switch to scrollable.
If I could figure out how to keep it as Fixed it wouldn't be an issue. It works just fine for an app I downloaded from B&N's market, but not for my own images.

I had this issue and it even crashed my Go Launcher after switching from the stock Nook home screen to my Go Laucher home screen with the 840.1024 size wallpaper. It turns out that Spare Parts compatibility mode was screwing things up. I had compatibility mode unchecked to make some of my apps run at full screen and it was affecting Go Launcher. After checking compatibility mode, I selected the 840x1024 wallpaper on my stock Nook home screen and when I switched over to Go Launcher it was fine.

I do. I'll have to check and see if this fixes things for me as well. I'll post back this evening.
That was not the issue, however I did figure it out:
Go Launcher has a wallpaper setting for Stretch or Fixed, defaulting to Stretch. Once I adjusted that (found in Screen Options under Soft Menu Key > Preferences), my wallpaper went back the way it should be and all is well again!

I was able to keep scrolling and have a properly sized wallpaper by using Quickpic to set it. APKTOP was the market I used to find it. It worked for *most* of the wallpapers I had. No luck for the smaller wallpaper sizes.
ItsMeMasih, can you please explain "how" you used QuickPic to set your wallpaper. When I try to do this, and am in the QuickPic Wallpaper screen, it's giving me the option to crop it. I don't want to crop it, but it won't allow me to use the entire image. (My image is 1024 x 840.) The crop area includes the entire width of the image, but won't allow me to include the entire height. The crop area will only shrink or increase, in the same proportions. I'd like to just use the entire image, as this will fill the three home screens nicely.
UPDATE: No matter what I did in QuickPic, I could not get a 1024 x 840 wallpaper to fit the height of my NT. (And emailing the developer was completely useless... language barrier.) The wallpaper came with my DecalGirl skin, and it didn't line up with the skin because it was enlarged. So, I went back to my original wallpaper method I posted when I had my NC, which reminded me that I had to use the stock home screen to set my wallpaper. Now, it's perfect.
