ADW Launcher - Resize the AB icons???? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I'm sure all of you are flashing CM7 stable builds on your Atrix rite now and ADW Launcher is default in the ROMs.
I know our Atrix has a larger resolution (960x540) than most phones, so ADW's AB icons (the 5 icons in the dock bar) looks pretty small on screen, even though I set the size of AB icons to maximum 10. Anyone knows how to set it bigger than 10 in settings so that it would look nicer on our Atrix??? thanks in advance

Just adjust the DPI settings in build.prop. It will make Market act a little funny with some programs not being able to be downloaded or paid for, but you can adjust everything as big or small as you want. If you need Market, just reset the settings to 240 and yer good to go. I'm sure there are other alternatives but that's what I do cause i have 99% of my programs backed up with Anttek Appmanager, which is free AND turns anything you download and install into an installable .apk for a later date. I know, smexy. Kinda like TiBu except free.

Wouldnt that compromise the screen resolution and would make it all blurry since i basically fatten every thing up???

Yes, so I'd avoid that. If adw lets you use custom icons, you could always manually resize them on your computer. I use irfanview to edit custom icons that I use with launcherpro. 96x96 pixels is the average size. Try something larger.

unfortunately, i don't think ADW support custom icons, unless you install like a whole new theme with preinstall icon set in theme.....

*cough* launcher pro *cough*

ADW does support custom icons, just hold down on the icon and then hit edit.
also, you can get an app called OldMarket that allows you to swap between the old market which allows you to download any app, despite of your LCD Density (i have mine set to 180, high resolution FTW - phone has never looked any better)

New Xperia Arc Launcher, need help with resolution size

Has anyone seen this launcher they stripped from the rom? Tried it on my CM7 Nook but desktop is sized for a phone..... does anyone here know how to fix the resolution for the nook?
One of the smoothest "tablet looking" launchers I have seen....Very smooth scrolling, nice folders etc with pop up app drawer......

Download LCD Density Changer and adjust your the density to 200 - 240. It looks better. Good find though

I have a modified version I setup for my Nook; it features 5x5 desktop, 5 window panes, 4x5 app drawer. Dimensions are setup for 1024 x 600.
I have been trying to get a 5x5 app drawer to no avail -- for some reason cannot get to 5 rows.
[I cannot post the url to the download as I am a noob PM me for DL link until I can update with the link]
If you want anything customized let me know and I will try to accommodate.
Lol, post the link without the www or http and it won't post as a link.

He may have stopped taking requests, but the steps are fairly easy to follow.
Also, this method is for the old xperia launcher. They may not work with the active launcher.
thanks turdferguson92 that should get me going, its really not a huge problem but would like to use all the screen real estate....at least ill be able to turn off all the extra homescreens now, i just use 1
I've been able to change the number of home screens as well, however I noticed that this launcher handles widget sizing differently?
The desktop grid is set to 6 columns but when I try to put for example, a 4x2 widget, it will only use up 3 columns
What can I do to fix that?

Yeah, I noticed that as well. As far as I know, the sizing on that particular version seems correct. But I'm sure I missed something after looking over it.
I would try to fix it myself but I haven't really had the time lately. As for fixing it yourself, it's just a matter of decompiling it, editing a couple of xml's, and zippin' it back up.
Hi Guys,
Can anyone make the Xperia Arc Launcher to work on Sony Tablet S???

[q] Increase softbutton size with cmtouchpad

Been running the 2.1 alpha and I'm quite happy with it. So thanks to the dev's for the awesome work.
But my fat fingers have trouble using the tiny softbuttons for the home, back etc keys.
Can the size of these buttons be increased? It doesn't seem that ADW themes affect the soft keys at all and I cant find any setting for there size.
I realize alot of people dont want big buttons taking up screen space but I have grown to appreciate the nice big Webos style buttons.
thanks!

Agreed.
I'd also like to see an option to move around to one of the other three sides. Like I'd like to have it positioned on the top rather than bottom.

U can move your status bar(inclusing soft button) to the top using adw ex

There is an option in the tablet tweaks that have where you can move it to the top.

Do you know if ADW EX can also modify the size?
All I've found so far is resizing of the launcher dock, and when I've tried a few setting it did not affect the soft buttons.
I do see in the setting under cyanogenmod settings you can move the soft buttons to the top.
U can move your status bar(inclusing soft button) to the top using adw ex
I have install ADW ex, the soft button and dock are show abnormal !
Anyone got same problem?
The status bar isn't part of a launcher; it's part of the OS/UI. As someone above mentioned, the bottom status bar is actually part of a set of tablet-oriented UI changes called Tablet Tweaks that were implemented in particular for the Nook Color, though obviously we're reaping the benefits now on the TouchPad as well! Perhaps the confusion about ADW comes from the fact that ADW's menu provides quick access to system settings as well as ADW settings?
Anyway, you can move the entire status bar back to the top of the screen in the Settings>CynanogenMod settings>Tablet tweaks screen. Just uncheck "Bottom status bar" and it'll be on the top. If you'd prefer the buttons on the right side, uncheck "Soft-buttons left". You can also select exactly which set of soft buttons you want.
There are two ways to change the size of the buttons: 1) I believe different CM7 themes can provide different size images; 2) You can change the LCD density to something higher than 160 (the default for the TouchPad's screen). The latter will scale everything, though, and might affect the usability of some apps, so be careful!
If you want to change the size of the buttons, you will need to choose a theme that works with the CM7 Theme Chooser.
I recommend this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311339
joenathane has a couple good ones.
I installed a couple of his nook themes.
They are very nice on the touchpad....but the softbutton is still the same size.
I'll have to wait for a theme...but at least I know what to look for.

Worked like a charm. +1 Thanks!
I use LCD Resolution (free in the Market) and change the value from 160 to 200 (the max on the TP). Don't forget to check the "Set on Boot" option. This actually makes everything bigger by 25% (noticable but not to terribly huge).
I love it.
An other option is to use button savior, it's an additional softkey toolbar with bigger buttons. A free version is available here on xda. Look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865525

the max lcd density is 280. you can manually edit or use any editor for build.prop. I use rom toolbox myself. but you can find it within build.prop as ro.sf.lcd_density. I've used it at 240 for hdpi themes. if the hdpi theme doesn't seem to fit right then just adjust the lcd density. you can use adw launcher pro to reduce the overall size of the icons.

Nova Launcher works great on Prime!

For all you all, Nova Launcher does in fact work great with the Prime tablet. Just set the home screen grid to 10 columns by 7 rows for proper sized layouts, and i would stick to the cube or none transition.
but it does work great! just so everyone knows. (not a fan of adw, personally)
i've been using it as well, and i agree it works great, super fast and much cleaner looking than adw imo.
i've been using a 10x8 layout personally.
I use Nova too. I actually hadn't gotten around to changing the layout because I like my screen bare. But I'll have to try that. So far I like it the best, pretty quick.
Dock not showing up
Am I doing something wrong? I can't figure out why the dock isn't showing up. Anyone run into this problem?
why do you say it works great?
the icon labels doesnt show in landscape mode, the card stack transition is messed up. hardly can say working great...
however i do agree it has great potential and worth keeping an eye out for.
it has some issues, but it runs very fast and doesn't have any issues that are showstopping.
I really like it! thanks for this post!

Same here!!! Is hidden because of the tablet config???
-------------------------------------------------------------
This is due to the device type... Tablets = No dock by default. This may change with future releases of the Nova launcher.

The icon labels only show up when there is enough room for them, I've got my desktop grid set to 7 Rows and 8 Columns and they show up fine. If you add anymore rows, the labels dissappear.
The only problem I have with Nova is that the wallpaper is zoomed regardless of how I crop it. Anyone else have this issue?

it has to do more with how HC/ICS handle wallpapers over the launcher, i use the multipicture lwp and it sets them properly.
ok guys... seriously.
NovaLauncher is a modified stock launcher. notice you don't have a dock on your stock launcher on your ICS tablet. well.. that's why you don't have one in NL either. tablet's don't have launchers unless you get a 3rd party launcher that forces one on a tablet, like adw. even launcher pro does it but not well.
secondly i can say that it works great because it does. don't use the card transition. the icons labels DO appear in landscape, just depends on how many ROW you are using in your grid.
why don't you do some investigating and trying things out before flaming the app. it does have great potential, but it also works great NOW!. it's better than the stock launcher, and personally i dislike ADW. so cada loco con su tema.

You won't find it on the marketplace. Grab it from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1389071. Just download and install the NovaLauncher_beta.apk that's all you need. It quite good. Oh one quick hint... Once you installed use Titanium Backup to convert the app into a system app, that way the widget will preview properly as your ICS stock launcher.
By the way... is in fact the best launcher for ICS so far...

What dpi settings should I use?

I just got my Verizon HTC One Max rooted and am going to change the DPI. I do not know a lot about calculating the best DPI for my screen. What settings would you guys recommend to give me more screen real estate.
You going to use something like Xposed to change the dpi? I haven't looked to see if the module there that does change dpi works with the One Max. I would definitely not recommend just trying out values as you could end up with a phone you will have to fix by pushing a build.prop (on the easy side) or recover with an ruu (if you are sprint) or some other way if any other version (on the more painful side).
I used texdroider_dpi from the app store and started small. I changed from 480 to 420 and it looks great but one problem. The launcher does not fill the screen now. I think some other launcher would work well but i want to stay stock so I changed it back.

i did try doing it with the app settings module via Xposed. This helped me to acheive per App DPI and few more features like font scaling and setting / resolution/ fullscreen/orientation and permission control.
Don't have the stock launcher on my phone.. i am willing to see what happens on 420. Do you have some screen shots ? Any idea which device uses DPI of 420?

Hi @ThemerSupport
The new app drawer is much nicer and I see that you have now made the home screen widgets stay in place when entering the app drawer instead of them all moving to the Center.
One Chang I would like to see and that the ability to Chang the color of the tabs bar in the app drawer.

I can't use Themer yet because I use custom DPI on my SGS3, When I use stock DPI everything is normal, but when I change it everything is a mess, and yes I know that I can work my way around, making the widgets and texts bigger and moving them around, but it would be wonderful if there was a scaling future depending on the resolution and the DPI.

The problem lies in when Themer is installed on your phone, it looks at the device name and sets the theme sizes accordingly. Now when custom DPI settings are added, it gets confused. That doesn't it custom DPI support won't be implemented, it'll just take some time

Wouldn't be better if instead of the device name, the app was looking for the DPI? That way it wouldn't matter what the device is, the would work anyway.
