[Q] G Tab HDMI Dock Question - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the G Tablet with the Zpad dock running Vegan. Love the ROM and it runs great. I just recently hooked it up via HDMI to my LCD TV (why I waited who knows), but I have a basic question:
Can I turn off the G Tab display while docked?
I want to hook up a bluetooth keyboard and basically pass signal to the TV, and I don't want the unit display on if possible. No big deal, but just wondering if any of you guys have a solution?
Thanks!

Not as far as i know. Im sure somone who knows java could write an app for it.
But why do you want the display off? You could put it in a media cabinet or maybe behind your tv if its the light that bothers you.

[Q] Can't get G Tab Dock HDMI out working

Hi everyone, I just brought a dock (the zpad one), its works fine for usb and power charge. But not for the HDMI out, I mean no sound and no visal.
I tried reboot the device with dock connected, doesn't help.
I'm currently using vegan beta 5.1, is there any way to make it work?
Many thanks.
Oh, BTW, it seems my tablet can't connect with BT keyboard as well, I tried ipad keyboard and the one from viewsonic, it ask me to input pair code, 0000, 1234, something like that, but no matter what its just cant pair.
Thanks for any help if possible.
Is your dock plugged in to the charger when you're using the HDMI out?
Oh god I didn't, it works great with charger plugged.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Question about hdmi out and aspect ratio/resolution

Every time I plug the TF to the tv I lose about half an inch on all sides. Don't see any hdmi settings and I tried messing with the tv settings. Anyone know how I can get it to fit properly

Have you tried going through an a/v receiver using the hdmi inputs on it? If so, are the results better or worse?
I found nothing in the manual other than the mention of the micro hdmi port out.
What model is your TV?
What you are describing sounds like Overscan, not sure on the size of your TV but my TV has some Overscan depending on the source.
My Prime has not arrived yet, sorry I cannot help you further.
yea happened to me too, I ended up fixing it by changing some scan settings in my TV
Change your TV settings from HDTV to PC mode or something similar to that. I did that On my Philips 1080P LCD and its working perfectly now. Strange because my Samsung automatically adjusted for my tablet.
If you dont have a PC to HDTV setting then just mess around with the settings/ features. Most models have things to help you get the best display possible for your situation.

[Q] Media Dock mHDMI Connected to HDMI>DVI Cable = No Output on Monitor?

Really two questions:
1. Is there a way to adjust resolution or over/underscan on the HDMI output of the tablet? When I have the tablet connected to my TV, there is about 1-2" of black border around the mirrored image.
2. I am trying to output to a LCD Monitor, mHDMI>HDMI adapter to HDMI>DVI cable connected to my Monitor, but the Monitor does display any image - not even a "out of display range" error. The monitor will briefly turn on, then dispaly "no signal." Both adapter and cable work independently of each other when attached to my TV. Is this a problem with the tablet, cable configuration, or my monitor?
Is there anything I can do to check/adjust the signal out from the Tablet? I am using the OG Samsung Dock w/HDMI out. Please let me know if I can provide any additional information.
[Edit] Currently running Tasks 14 Full Rom with Pershoot's latest kernel. And I have the WiFi only version.
same issue
I have a samsung galaxy 10.1 tab in the office and I am trying to do HDMI mirroring. I do not have a dock but I have HDTV Adapter. I do not have a HDMI monitor at office. So, I used a HDMI to DVI converter. When connected, nothing happens. no errors on the monitor just like you said.
So, does it require a TV/Monitor which has a HDMI input?
Or does it simply require a media dock?
[Edit] Does HDMI mirroring requires rooting?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
I would assume HDMI mirroring is built-in, as they sell addons for HDMI output. Semi glad to see someone else has the problem... but now its two of us with the same problem lol. Later this week I'm going to try an ICS build, see if there is any difference.

Well, I was glad I was not the only one with this problem
I did some Googling, search Android HDMI to VGA. Should turn up some links exposing the issue. Basically, android cannot natively do VGA. Need a HDMI to VGA converter, possibly powered, but there isn't much information. Dealextreme sells one for $38... and it may not work.
Sucks, seems like a decades old standard would be something engineers would think to maintain compatibility with.

give up
At this point of time, I am giving up and tell my boss to buy a new tablet. This is my office one.
I have Coby Kyros - bought it for cheapness. Will try rooting that.
mHDMI Connected to HDMI>DVI Cable = No Output on Monitor?
I have exactly the same problem with my XOOM and my Samsung T220 DVI-D monitor
I note that noboby has actually answered the questions posed by the previous posters.
Is that because no one knows??
The HDMI and the DVI-D signals are both fully digital and according to info I read on the web are pretty compatible.
I have aslo seen implied that a 5V signal which the DVI-D requires is maybe not available on the HDMI output.
How about some of you clever tech guys on the forums letting us less well gifted folks know if this is really a no-no and maybe why this is the case.
Thanks in advance for your help
Sorry folks have posted this in the wrong place ooops

HDMI as primary display

Basics. I have a Coby MID-7042 tablet. The touch panel cracked on it so it is useless and cost to much to get fixed. With that said I am now using the tablet as an Android TV. I have hooked the tablet up to my HDMI TV and am using a mouse on the USB port to control the tablet. The thing is I am thinking of ripping the tablet apart and removing the screen and battery and other items. The thing is if I remove the LCD screen then I cannot get into recovery if needed and I cannot see the system booting on the HDMI connection.
Is there any way to force the HDMI connection to be the primary or will this happen naturally when the LCD panel is disconnected?
Since Android is Linux shouldn't there be a value somewhere that allows the selection of what screen is the primary. I know this can be done since there are quite a few Android TV boxes out there that use the HDMI connection as the primary display.
If you can help at all that would be great!
Thanks
Hi,
I have the same problem. Searched Google and XDA forum, no answer found...

[Q] Viewsonic g tablet help SmoOth Bean 4.1.2 ver 1.5(Standard PlayStore) 160 DPI ROM

I bought a Viewsonic g tablet on sale a year and a half ago and until this day it meets the light. (It was only touched when purchased then back to the box)
I followed the instructions to the letter (new on this) and everything seems to be working, I have a Malata zpad dock DS-A002 supposed to be fully compatible with the g tablet and I placed the tablet on the dock, connected HDMI in the TV but nothing happens.
Don't see an option in settings to select output to TV.
Many thanks in advance.
Forgot to mention, tried this on the TV which is an LG and monitor which is a Hanns-G
I have to say that this is a first so far. When I read this I went ahead a connected up my dock which is the same make and model as yours to my TV and it works. HDMI is sometimes a pain especially with the newer TV's that are out. You also got to have the dock powered up if you haven't done that. If the power cord is connected and the tablet displays the dock clock then connect the HDMI to the dock with the TV turned off. After connection is made turn on the set and make sure you are on the proper input. It should work, but if not try a different TV.

Thanks for the reply
The LCD TV is a couple of years old, the LCD monitor is 3ish years old
My mother has a 5yr old LCD TV, that's another TV I could test on
The dock is powered up using the charger that came with the gTab
The tablet displays the dock clock when placed on the dock
I've tried different combinations:
Dock powered up, TV off and plugin cable, gtab on then place on dock, turn TV on
Dock powered up, TV off and plugin cable, gtab off then place on dock and power on, turn TV on when gtab is on the dock clock
Dock powered up, TV on and plugin cable, gtab on then place on dock
Dock powered up, TV on and plugin cable, gtab off then place on dock and power on
TV detects HDMI when the gtab is placed on the dock, but after 3-5 secs says no signal meaning it does detect HDMI (shows up as an option, I've tried on all 3 HDMI inputs btw) but it doesn't show up an image.
I've tried these methods in the TV and the monitor, nothing
Doesn't make sense to me since everyone in the thread hasn't had this issue, should be plug-and-play right?

Should I backup the current install and go back to the stock crappy ROM just to test it out? (Wipe everything as instructed before doing so?)
Thanks
No since in going all the way back to stock to test it out. Have you by chance tried a different HDMI cable. You might have a faulty connection or even a dirty connection will make it loose its connection. You may also want to check to see if the TV has a default native setting set. The gtablet will display a image like a PC I believe. Will have to connect it up again to see what res. the device puts out at default.
Alright find the link up solution. I tried different ways of connection all with failure to display on my TV with the exception of this. Try it and you will be satisfied.
1st. Place you dock near your TV with power cord and HDMI cable both connected. Don't connect other end of HDMI cable to TV just yet.
2nd. Have tablet turned on and fully booted up. Then place tablet on dock and leave the dock clock displayed.
3rd. Turn on TV and set the input to the HDMI connection you are about to connect to. Then connect HDMI to that input that is in TV and the display should reflect the device.
Let me know if this works. Thanks.

Hi, yes I tried 2 different cables, different ports, cleaned up (blow air) into the TV and and dock ports (dock is brand new never used from a year+ ago)
I couldn't find a default native setting on the TV.
Really sucks that there is an awesome ROM for the gtablet and I can't use it on the bigger screen, intention was to watch Netflix and movies, besides reading
The tablet is one of those projects that never happened and when I finally manage to get it going this happens...:crying:
Read the addon that I posted. It will connect if you connect it in that order.

Hi Nobe, it still doesn't work. I just don't get it.
TV recognizes the connection (shows as plugged-in) but says no signal.
Unfortunately monitor is not as advanced as a TV, simply says no signal.
Faulty dock? It charges fine
Thanks
Went to stock, and image shows up fine on TV
Is there something I could change, DPI,res? on the current SmoOth install (have backups) that could potentially fix the issue?
Thanks

I keep mine at 160dpi. The issue is that you have to connect everything to the dock before connecting it up to the TV. For some strange reason the dock settings doesn't recognize the connections being made. The dock works fine it is the drivers I believe that are kernel related. If you power up the dock with the HDMI connected to it, then place tablet on the dock, then connect the HDMI to the TV's input with the TV on and turned to that input. Then it should display onto the TV without issues. Done this multiple times when this came up and this was the only way for me to get the dock to display the output of the tablet.

The thing is I did exactly as you said multiple times to be sure.
Using SmoOth image does not come up
Restored to stock ROM and image shows up fine
I'm going to try a fresh SmoOth install and see how it goes or is there any way to check the drivers or make adjustments to it?
Thanks
Any advice on checking the drivers?
Thanks
Actually the drivers are there and working the way they are suppose to be. I do believe that it might in the way it is communicating with the TV still. I am currently working on something that might help out, but I want to test it fully before suggesting it since most everyone doesn't use this feature.

It is really odd that doing the same process on the stock rom works.
Thanks a lot for the follow-up Nobe
Curious if anyone found a solution to this problem? I too have the exact same issue with my Gtab even after trying the solution posted with different cables and such. Stock rom works fine though.
I'm wondering if Nobe found something
