Best Rom and/or Kernel for 3D Gaming - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been very impressed with the t959's ability to run games but I'm starting to see some stuttering on some of the newer titles, so .... What is the best rom and/or kernel for gaming?
I'm currently running Bi-Winning V3 EDT with the default Bullet kernel, but haven't overclocked yet, if that makes any difference.
Suggestions?

overclocking makes a big difference. it can increase fps by 10-15.

Dmz kernel is good since the maker is a gamer an he focused on gaming an performance but still with great battery

Thanks for responding! How safe is it? Do I have to mess with voltage too? What kind of overclock are you running, if you are running one?

Thanks! I'll try that.

Cm7 is best imo
I run legend of zelda ocarina very smoothly on it... if you need even more, you can get glitch kernel and oc up to 1.7ghz... if you still stutter, your in the wrong century

Isn't Cm7 a 2.3 rom? I thought gingerbread was slower with most games.

Yes The Team Whiskey-/ Dragon and some of the Eugene kernels can over clock very well I had one 1.45 The problem with o.c is the battery drain
But any of those do well in the over clocking world.

It could just mean that the developers of Nexus S put a higher voltage at the higher clock speed, which also means that it kills your phone faster.
You don't gain something from nothing. Oh and I am not talking about battery life....
dragon 3.6 overckolcked to 1.4 has battery almost as good as stock ! DoW doesent because it overclocks gpu at the same time and this is whats jams your phone when u run graphic benchmark.

A newer device with (in all likelihood...this is a guess based on decades of experience with CPU's) a newer revision stepping of the Hummingbird CPU. CPU/GPU manufacturers are ALWAYS fine tuning their designs, primarily for higher yields and better stability. This plays out predictably in the desktop x86 environment with concepts like speed-binning and overclocking in that arena, so it should come as no surprise that this plays out in other areas as well.
Newer board layout with design experience gleaned from manufacturing a few million Galaxy S devices? Reduced capacitance and resistance issues due to layout changes, altering of support components, changing trace lengths...etc, so on and so forth. All of these things can play out for significant and measurable improvements in stability. Manufacturers learn as they "do", the same as we do.
In other words, there are all sorts of easily plausible reasons why.
These sorts of things all have a significant effect in the desktop/laptop system world, so there is no reason to assume they wouldn't carry over to the smartphone universe.

[Q] Fastest Vibrant Kernel/ROM?

Hey guys. I was wondering what kernel and or ROM is the fastest availible at the moment.
I've been following the Android Developement pages here for a while, and I consider myself somewhat proficient at flashing firmware, etc.
I'm running CM7 on my Vibrant right now, and I was wanting to flash a different ROM. I considered going back to stock, but I wanted to get input on what is the fastest availible right now.
Also: what lagfixes and overclocking tools do you use? I am trying to make my Vibrant as fast as possible.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Malice is the fastest. Bullet kernel is the only one which can do 1.4Ghz so i am assuming its the fastest.
Agreed! kernel/ROM (imho) Bullet1.42Ghz/Malice2.3.1.
Another good kernel i like is Tigersbloodv3
Both those kernels OC well if ur phone can handle it.
If your phone doesn't play well with OC my personal favorite is CwK
Also, download Spare Parts from the market and set both animations to "fast"... this makes the ROMs appear much faster.
The real test is going back and forth between apps and the load time.
"fast" is kind of a floating point. As someone already mentioned, fast can sometimes be as easy as speeding up the animations.
I've had great luck with the SimplyGalaxy roms due to their ability to remain fast months after flashing.
Cool! Thanks for all the input, guys!
What about overclocking and lagfix utilities?
I heard there is an app or tool that you can overclock, but set to underclock when the phone is not in use...
Also, I was using one click lag fix on stock, is there anything like that I need for these ROMs, or does it come built in?
For over/under clocking, try setcpu from the market.
OCLF is nowhere near as good as Voodoo. Most ROMs that are available in the dev section come with a voodoo injected kernel.
Try vibrace overclocked. I guerentee you will love it!

Malice or Bi Winning W/ Bullet Kernel.
Then spare parts to adjust animation speeds. <3
I personally found MIUI to be the snappiest at 1.3 ghz.
I've been running custom ROMs on my vibrant since the day it became possible, and every time I install something other than one of Eugene's ROMs I come to regret it.
CM7 with a custom OC/UV kernel gets a 2100 Quadrant that translates to a really snappy UI and 3D faster than any 2.2 ROM.

and probably the 1.54GHz kernel on GB
but i think games are better on froyo at this point until we get an official release for our phone, i might be wwrong though, i only really play angry birds and doodle jump
Froyo is good for gaming because it has great battery life, ginger is good cuz you can set your soft keys and use them in emulators.

Cm7 is by far the best for gaming... if you want the bwst gaming experience, youll wanna overclock.. if you want the best gaming experience period, get CM7 with kernel du jour and oc to 1.55 or 1.6 if your phone cab take it... you will chew up those games....

Not every chip is the same. You probably have some settings that you may have missed, and if not just uninstall it and play it normally.
Or, you can try a new rom.
Try clearing up cache and ram before starting teh game. Also did you try to o/c ur phone? It might help .
BTW can u pls link to how we can enable teg3 effects?

Where did you get that bull**** from? Nvidia? A CPU or GPU for that matter is NOT designed for gaming even if Nvidia tries to make everyone believe that. A processor interprets and executes commands, regardless of what they are for. Some are faster, others are better at multitasking, others have more commands. However it's safe to say that according to most OpenGL benchmarks Exynos shows Tegra3 it's place.
Also did you try to o/c ur phone? It might help .

Overclocking, if done by an inexperienced user (which should be like 99% of the S3 userbase) causes instabilities and hardware damage.
The S3 is enough beast to handle it.

Afaik Dead Trigger in Tegra3-settings should run buttery smooth on the S3

Never read so much BS in such a short time.
On my Galaxy s3 (int. edition) the games runs f*cking awesome without any lags on max graphic settings. Tegra3 is inefficient and only kinda comparable to the exynos4 chipset.
@topic starter.
I think the problem is the rom, maybe there are some special tweaks, that affect the gameplay experience on your phone in a negative way.
I play on GL8 Off. Rom, only rooted and some useless apps deactivated, without OC or stuff like that. Runs awesome, just like it should.
I would say, try another good rom, with better gaming reputation.
cheers
This might sound like a stupid question but it has happened here A LOT. For some you that have lag... Are you using the US variant and just asking your question here? Anyway I just placed dead trigger without any lag or problems.

Asphalt 7, performance issues.

Hi, I have bought asphalt 7 and for the most part I'm impressed with its graphics and game play, however on certain tracks its kind of laggy.
I know some games aren't optimized for Android half as much as they are for ios Mostly due to the fact that there is so much hardware that Android runs on, but has anyone seriously got this game running well on their sgs3?
I'm running fox hound 1.43 using siyah kernel @1.4ghz. Governor is on demand. I'll try some others and update this post but at the moment it's laggy on London and another level where you drive through a building (not sure on its name)
If anyone has any tweaks and or tips on getting the most notable difference of performance out of this game then let men know please.
Cheers.

Omega is a great rom but towards the end of 9 i was getting lag's so i switched to foxhound and it's been very good indeed, it's only since i've noticed this lag on one game that i've debated changing rom's, personally i think that the developers of android games should work bloody harder, it's just like the pc / console war all over again, and i'm on the PC side of that too.
