Kernel Source Red Keys - HTC Rezound

Hopefully we can disable the red key backlighting with the kernel source. As of right now, I am not too keen on it.

I don't think we can. The keys are red even when the phone is turned off.

I mean the backlighting. The red isn't as bad until they were lit up. I wish they could make a phone with blue stuff instead of red.

I like the red. And it wont mess with night vision as bad as the white ones on my incredible do.

That's what I'm thinking, and liking. The white ones on my Incredible are too bright sometimes, especially at night and/or when watching videos. The red ones seem to be less bright, which would be nicer

agreed, the red ones are going to be great. At night it won't blind me so that I can actually see my autobrightly dimmed screen, not to mention it looks sweeeet.
White ones could be argued you could see better in daylight.. but then you don't need backlights in daylight?
but with all that said, I'm sure after development ramps up it'll be able to be turned off.

I'm kinda confused on that though, like if you see it while it's turned off, the buttons are still painted on as red.. err not painted, but you know what I mean. You can see it in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rtCXb9Qays&feature=player_embedded

Blue tint to screen unless looking straight at it

If i tilt my screen even the slightest bit, the screen gets a blue tint to it.
I have read some people say its only temporary. Some people have also said they never had it out of the box.
My phone is 2 days old. What should I do?

Do you mean when the screen is on or off?
i've only had a few samsung devices with the amoled series screens, but from what i can tell it seems to be the rule not the exception that the blue tint will be present in the screens.....
someone correct me if i'm wrong, i'm just going off personal experience
I'm not seeing it on my SGSII or my Captivate. I just checked again to be sure.
i have blue tint. You can see really well if you are viewing a white web page and move the phone slightly.
Yeah I've noticed this as well on the two GS2's that I've had over the past few days. Not an issue to me, but it is odd.

Slight blue tint is not a bad thing. Blue pixels dim down faster than red and green. Over time, you will get it balanced.
AMOLED is not known for color accuracy. Don't be too picky
This is perfectly normal for the display type. http://www.smartmobix.com/Super_Amoled_vs_Super_LCD
I see the blue if you hold the phone about 45 degrees tilted from straight on. Pretty much any direction if you aren't straight on you see the weird tint.
Mine has a severe blue tint with only about a 10 degree rotate on any axis. I never imagined that a phone could have such a poor viewing angle. My Captivate's screen was leagues better.
What am I doing wrong, I cannot reproduce this blue tint.
At about 45 degrees I see a slight change, but it looks more yellow than blue. Its barely noticeable, and only at >45 degrees, hardly an issue.
I never use screen protectors because of past experience with them making the screen foggy when viewed at an angle. Could the screen protector be causing the issue for others? Or, at least amplifying the issue?
Sent from my SGS II
Well, mine must be defective.
You know those holographic comic book covers and how you see a shimmer with the slightest angle change? It's like that. The slightest shift brings on the blue.
I don't think I'm incredibly picky either. My Captivate and Tilt 2 before it were dynamite by comparison.
My Thrill did that, when I 3D mode, the viewing angle was minuscule in that phone.
I am nothing but amazed with the screen on the SGS II. You should definately swap for a new one.

Normal experiences for an amoled screen. its like when you see a plasma that's off and its greenish, it just has to do with the panel I assume.
Here is a video of what I see. I actually start to see it sooner than the camera does though. But you can still easily see how it changes to blue.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Y5p0KZoLMM
Thanks for posting that video. I've been noticing this problem too. I would say anyone that says it goes away has just gotten used to it. I don't think there is a solution.

[Q] AMOLED blacks?

Hi,
I have read a great deal about Super AMOLED plus screens having the best blacks because they physically dont turn on the backlight, saving power.
Now i have noticed, When viewing a black screen in the dark, there is actually a fair bit of light leaking through. even though it is "black light" (like on an LCD)
Can anyone else confirm this, or explain it?
Thanks
Its as black as black can be for me.

Perhaps the black wallpaper is not a pure black, instead it's a combination of colours to make it appear black.
I really can't see it in mine, but I've always wondered about this when looking for a black wallpaper. It's actually hard trying to find the darkest black using a PC, and wondered how you can really tell, as all black wallpapers would be a combination of colours.
I think it would be great for the power saving on the SAMOLED screens if you had an option to select "no" wallpaper or colour, so the background would automatically not actually turn on, using zero power.
This would guarantee you are using the purest BLACK and ultimately ZERO power on the background of your SAMOLED screen.
How does my theory sound
No Wallpaper and Colors apps in the Market will do a pure black wallpaper.
Use a microscope. lol
Actually it is a nice way to do it. Go to hobby town or somewhere and get a cheapy 10.00 microscope and you can look at the actual pixels. Not only can it help you here, but its always rather interesting to see.
Also, keep in mind that even when black, it still does have a little power in it, even if very minute, and still allows light a little bit, even if just in very very very very very minute amounts.
Ohh! Someone else has this to!
What happens is if you look at a pure black in the dark yolu will see almost white / grey areas, and it is not the image it is the same for everything that is 100% black , but is less noticible when something else in on the display, I also have a dark spot in the center of mine when it's on min brightness, Might send to Samsung, Or ask Vodafone they seemed to have a dodgy batch of phones.. this will be my 3rd
So I think it's a defect? The first phone I had didn't do this

Im glad im not the only one!
Yeah, I already sent my first GS2 back for screen problems, I dont want to have to send it back again and live without it for another 3 weeks. Also, I have subsequently flashed custom roms, so I would prefer not to.
If it ends up breaking, I'll just get the screen replaced when it happens.
Instal lcd test from market. When you see black, its like the screen is off...try it...

[Q] Kernel tweaks: Capacitive Lights

When (if) we finally get this baby S-Off and devs start cooking kernels, will they be able to tweak how bright the capacitive lights are? On my device, at least, the lights are so bright they look a little pink. Is that something controlled by the kernel? If the brightness on them was dialed down, I feel like it might help.
Rabble rabble rabble.
I believe that's something that will be able to be fixed via software.
Absolutely. That's can absolutely be incorporated into the kernel. If a dev makes a configurator for the terminal emulator th u can adjust it by a percentage. We had a few configurators for the EVO and the settings were for both OCing and the capacitive button. Very useful

Devs can tweak the Capacitive brightness through kernel, Evo 3D & Sensation both can change their brightness. But there's a script that lets you change the lights from bright to dim and then off. Although Faux has managed to make the Leds dynamic based on the screen brightness, which is quite useful.
Having a dynamic ability would be great! However, 9/10 you can see the buttons without them being lit at all.
I couldn't care less about the brightness, I more hate they're so inconsistent. At home with my incadescent lights, they never come on. At work with all of the flourescent lighting where it's much brighter, they do turn on. Makes no sense man!
Could just be the lighting the sensor is more sensitive to.

Sounds pretty consistent to me. Sorry, couldn't help myself.
Yeah, I had the EVO 3D for a few weeks, and when we only had temp root I did a lot of playing around with terminal scripts, for OC and whatnot. But this is good news! Like somebody said, you rarely actually need them. But when you do, they don't even need to be very bright at all to be seen. I feel like at stock levels, it is a little overboard.
I think even having it at 50% would be more than enough. Anyway, thanks for the responses. Looking forward to such development.
Rabble rabble rabble.
i usually want my led lights as bright as possible, but i know from taking it apart and lighting it up, its pretty much as bright as the led will go, its just the tint of red on the digitizer is thick enough so the light doesnt shine through pink like you said, however maybe on yours the tint is thinner who knows. I usually change phone everytime a new one comes out, or else i would (which i still might) solder on RED leds so i can push them out even brighter red.
Led Notification ?
Speaking of lights, does this phone have an led notification light for missed calls, voicemail, texts, etc?

I agree, the capacitive keys are too bright and look pink-ish. If we can adjust them to make them dimmer, make them more of a true red, that would be awesome.
My lights are on whenever the screen is on. Is there a way to change it. I have seen post talkin about them never turning on but I rather they never turn on not always be on.

Download an app called Screen Filter. Set it to 100% to keep the normal brightness, then uncheck Enable soft key lighting option. Screen on even in dark with no capacitive lights.

Black spots in screen

Anybody here have black spots in their screen?
Its only noticeable when the room is dark and the screen is dark.
For example, when I'm about to go to bed all lights off and I read stuff here on xda using the dark theme. I notice some black spots in the screen. They're everywhere in mine and its annoying.
Can you guys try it and let me know if I'm not the only one.
To see it better try using screen filter app from the market and lower the brightness.
Download the picture and open it with gallery. Zoom in to fill up the whole screen. Let me know if you guys have this too

Yeah, at this point it's pretty much normal.
You should of seen all the fuss people made about the S2 and even donated a phone to a well known dev to try and somehow fix it only to never get anything back from that dev and everybody's phone still remained the same. Lol.
Some might have it more than others, but at the end we have no choice but to deal with it unless you want to get a different phone.

I finally got around to testing mine last night, too, and I got lucky as I couldn't detect any ink blotches whatsoever. Even when they are there, they're not noticeable in regular conditions.
Steps to reproduce:
1) Download a completely black image from google images or wherever.
2) Open it fullscreen, turn your phone off, turn the lights off.
3) Wait 10 minutes for your eyes to adjust to pitch black darkness, then turn your phone back on with the black image displayed
4) Check the screen for non-uniformity
I have the problem as well. It does suck, but for me it's not really worth having to go through the exchange steps to get a different one.
I always wondered about them but figured it was just normal I have a big one dead center of the screen. Kinda like a target. Lets hope not for that reason though
guess, I got lucky. My first S3 had 3 spots. The new one is clean!
I'm definitely disappointed with the blacklevels on this display - at least when viewed in extremely dark environments.
I have 1 quite significant black line, and a few dots too. Bleh... wonder what's changed since the S1 screens - black levels were WAY better, and none of this ink marking.
I noticed the black dots, too, but I was able to make them go away with some carefully applied Liquid Paper. No more black dots. Does anyone else have a problem with white dots?

Yeah it's not even really blue imo, more of a barney purple. The home button is definitely a different color than the rest of the phone as well. I had my heart set on the pebble blue til I saw it in person, and now I'm getting a white 32gb tomorrow.

The device is most certainly blue... I don't know how anyone could call it purple. I am very happy with the appearance of the phone. The home button is purple though, but it is not that bothersome. Every other part of the phone is blue though. The metal-like finish on it makes it look very nice.
I always thought the phone looked purple in the pictures, and my phone looks purplish in reality too. Nothing odd with yours. The home button looks ever so slightly more purple than the rest though, as others have said.
