[Q] Maybe getting Tbolt, root GB? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I have the Inc2 right now, got it using my update earlier in the year. I am thinking of getting the Tbolt, as I want 4G, but I want to root, especially to install the Sensation XE InfectionROMs ROM. Is there a way to root the new gingerbread update? I saw a rooting thread, but it looks like it's for Froyo. Thanks for the help.

Yes u can.....use revolution

I've already rooted 2 phones with Rev, so I'm glad it's the same.

I have a thunderbolt that is already at 2.11.605.5 - 2.3.4, and I am trying to S-off/root it. However, the revolutionary0.4pre4 is not working. I enter the key, and it just sits there - nothing ever happens.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Unlocked Samsung Vibrant on Eclair: What's Next?

So my girlfriend just recently made the android switch (yay!). She got a vibrant on ebay that is unlocked for at&t, but is still on android 2.1. My question is, if she wanted to upgrade to 2.2 or 2.3, what would be the best way to go about it?
Will it inevitably relock the phone and i will have to unlock it?
Thanks in advance!

Obviously i have to root it first. Really what i was looking to know is will it relock if i root or flash another rom? Mostly just trying to see how much time i should set aside for the whole process

no it shouldnt, i got mine unlocked and ive been on 2.2, 2.2.1, 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 and im still unlocked
to root, back up(apps and current rom), flash and restore(apps) it'll probably only take like 30 min - an hour tops if you know what your doing
read through http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028 if you need to know
Nice.. ty ty. I have a little experience, i rooted my g2 with the dreaded security locked bootloader hehe. Shouldnt be too hard to root, i was more worried about relocking. Thanks for the info!

Root 4.1.83 v2.2.2

Just purchased my 1st Android phone and am getting used to everything. Without sounding like a broken record and having spent some time on the forum, can I please be directed to or have answered how to root an Atrix 4.1.83 v2.2.2 without flashing back?
Does it make sense to wait for Gingerbread to come out or does it make sense to unlock the boot now?
Any input greatly appreciated.

Look for Gingerbreak in dev section to root.
I would unlock and flash Kenneth Penn's 4.5.91. The Moto release in SOAK will stop you flashing back if you want to.
Beamed from WinBorg 4G via XDA Premium
If you wait and get an update from Motorola and you have your artix rooted on 2.2. How should one proceed? Does one just update and then re-root after that?
Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure if I HAD to flash back in order to gain root. As much as I don't like the motoblur bloat, a few items are handy. Any ROMs to look at?

When I was running 1.83, I used a method from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138204
Check out the third post in that thread. You'll need ADB to get it done, but if you don't have ADB installed you may as well do that.
ROM-wise, I'm using CherryBlur, which is a modified version of the latest 2.3.4 ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160649
And I think it's great. The original HKTW 2.3.4 beta leak had a lot of bugs, many of which have been corrected by community updates and hacks, but Kenneth's 2.3.4 seems to be pretty clean so far. As to whether it's worth waiting for the official release, well... I think it's worth modding your phone just for kicks, and to gain a better understanding of how it works.
Thanks Obscene! Now all I have to do is find the time. In theory; to get bothyour methods done - how long should I expect barring no issues?

[Q] n00b Question - What's S-Off

So this is probably a stupid question to you guys, but I'm trying to get Honeycomb on my Best Buy Flyer and obviously I need to root it, etc. first. My question is what is S-off? I've never seen that before. Thanks!!

I found this to be useful
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...on-htc-android-phones-with-unrevoked-forever/
Just got mine upgraded
I used this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uresNXhrX4
then I followed Pauls Guide " http://android.modaco.com/topic/345950-installing-honeycomb-on-your-flyer-the-complete-guide/"
and than used the :
FlyHoney-ROM-v0.2.zip
http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...2.zip</FONT>&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13192987127163
And I just want to make you aware of a couple of things if you have not read all the threads.
1. If you flash to HC on a US Flyer, you cannot currently get back to stock or Gingerbread by any means. We are working on that, but as of now, no way to go back.
2. The HC Roms all have some issues, while most things work and some things work better than stock GB, some things don't work, for example the cameras work with the HTC app, but not with Skype or other 3rd party apps and those issues cannot be fixed until we get a new release from HTC.

Just got tbolt, about to root, have a question

Ive been reading and searching, i have 2.11.605.0 installed on my phone from factory. Is there anything special, like downgrade or anything, that i need to do to run revolutionary?

I rooted with Revolutionary from .5 without a problem, so I don't think so - as far as I can tell you only need to worry about downgrading from .9 to root.
it's weird that your phone came with such an old firmware version installed...did it ever try to run any OTA upgrades?

Very nice. I'm still running the Incredible but will probably get a Tbolt this week. The Inc is in perfect condition but I'm looking for a larger screen and a front facing camera. Plus I can pick one up for $49. While the Bionic is nice and the GNex is the caddy, I'm just not going to spend that kind of money.
Thats how i felt, im very happy with this phone. Actually runnin the same rom by newt i had on dinc, mcrunny sense!

Incredible to TBolt
Hey Guys -
Got and rooted my TBolt on Thu 1/5.
It came w/ same (older?) software as Donny.
For grins, intellectual curiosity mostly, I chose to d/l and install OTA's, then root. When following the step-by-step guides @ the links below, easy as pie.
downgrade
http://www.thunderboltforums.com/forum/htc-thunderbolt-development/7218-how-downgrade-get-s-off-after-updating-latest-ota-2-11-605-9-a.html
then this to S-OFF, Recovery, and Superuser
http://www.thunderboltforums.com/forum/htc-thundebolt-hacking-guides/5259-rs-approved-revolutionary-5-minutes-less-root-without-data-loss.html
Only oddity was when running the exploit it seemed to hang on "Waiting for Device". I poked around a couple forums for advice, and tried toggling USB Debugging and off it went.
Running CM 7.1.1 - just like on Incredible - like this new device quite a bit!
Happy to help others via PM if they may have questions.
Kind regards.

Possibly Bricked Rezound

Well I bought this HTC Rezound on craigslist, the guy i bought it from said it was rooted and blah blah. To begin with I didnt want the phone rooted, because to be honest I have no use for it or know what it really is used for, I have never rooted a phone or attempted. Well anyways, just today I restarted the phone because it was acting real slow, so i restarted it and when it powered back on it got stuck on the 4g screen. I left it like that for like 10 min and nothing. Please if anyone can help me on trying to fix this, it would gladly be appreciated. I dont want it rooted anymore just normal. If you can help please make this an easy experience, I dont ever plan on ever rooting or dealing with this stuff..thanks!!
Download the gb ruu from the sticky in the dev thread and run it. You'll be back to stock like it came out of the box http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19189145

Or this one, its newer http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25664508
But he's right your going to have to flash the RUU to fix it. Also rooting is not a bad thing, it's actually a good thing. It allows you to load custom ROMs on your phone so you don't have to live with the standard Verizon / HTC crap. Like mine for example, I am running Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich, with Sense 4.0.
I couldn't find that thread so I directed him to football's original one. Thanks for the other link

Not a problem, just trying to help out. I know all to well the feeling of a bricked phone....
I had this issue, sounds like dude didn't flash the right boot image to the rom.
Yes, start from the latest ruu and go from there.
