[Q] Reset binary counter for I9100G? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've a GT-I9100G with 3e recovery. Tried the old bootloader from Intratech's thread. But Odin failed (see image). I got it working by flashing the stock bootloader.
So here I assume old bootloader isn't compatible with I9100G, right? I've searched but everyone is pointing to the same bootloader used for I9100. While none of the G's owners reported back their success (or failure).
Any other ideas on how downgrade to be able to reset counter with a jig?

An i9100 is not a i9100G and they have different firmwares so the bootloader is also different. You could try and reflash an older firmware until there is and older flashable bootloader.Although once the new bootloader is set i dont know if its changable. If you know what older firmware you need I could look for it.

yea figured that pretty much. However the phone came loaded with the mentioned firmware. I tried to figure which firmware was compatible with it but no luck.
Any idea, resource or list one could look into? and how much old of firmware should one try to get the 2e recovery? I read somewhere that 3e was introduced on Android v2.2
Thanks cooza. I hope someone could point me to the right direction on this one.

its quite possible that the G-series being released after the i9100 international came with the new bootloader pre-installed from the factory and that will be why its so hard to find a solution.I can only guess that in time with new firmwares someone will be able to find a way to make the old i9100 bootloader compatable with the newer series phones like the G,M and T galaxies and hopefully it will be Odin flashable to help other owners out.

Pls help

Please help or direct as i've tried everything.
Cheers,

sorry to bumping old thread..
i reset my counter with flash back with ODIN.
just flash PDA with stock DZKI1
no need pit and no need repartition..
after that just flash any rom and i can use USB Jig to reset the counter..

Here is a patch for the i9100g.
It is the bootloader from firmware DZKJ2.

Use ODIN and flash this file with checked bootloader option.
Then you can use JIG to reset the binary counter.

Hello. I am using CM9 right now. I found that I couldn't reset binary counter with my USBjig. Will this patch still works for me? Since I am using ICS right now with CM9. Hope to get answer and sorry for pumping question to this old thread. Thank you guys.

Hi, yes i confirm to you if you flash an GB bootloader over an ICS bootloader that will brick your device, that happened two times for me...
Somebody can tell me if this patched bootloader works with an ICS bootloader, please ? Because i don't want to brick it again. Thanks.

[Q] Some questions about CSC

Hello xda-developers this it my first post, but it will be more and I will try to help you.
I have a SGS2, bought from Romania, but the CSC code is "XEF" which probably means that it was imported form France. Now I want to change my CSC in "HAT" or "COA" according to my country but I don't want to lose my warranty.
1) There is any method to do this?
2) If I will find the CSC files, flashing only this with Odin is possible and if yes I lose my warranty? I only flashed AIO or PDA,CSC,BOOT files in the mean time on my second phone,Samsung i5700, but never only one of those.
I tried with CSC Selector from Play and with Preconfig code, but my phone have no Multi-CSC, it have only "XEF".
My SGS2 informations:
PDA: I9100XWKJ2
PHONE: I9100XXKJ4
CSC I9100XEFKJ1
Thank you very much for your answers and sorry for my bad English
no need to change it unless you need something specific in that csc.

Just flash XWLP8 Frankenstein with Odin. Kies is a complete piece of crap. Uninstall it right now and just leave the samsung usb drivers.
The aforementioned package already includes everything you need... and it's official... and it's newer than the package you are planning to flash ; )
@bala_gamer: I will look forward CSC files and just flash them with Odin... But is it possibile? My device is not rooted...
@victorator: Doing this I will lose my warranty...Am I right?

Go into settings->about phone and write down what you have now.
Worst case IF you ever really need to get warranty just flash this package...
End of story. The link I gave you gives you the newest official ICS rom, non-rooted. It doesn't increase the custom binary counter (that's how they check if you messed with your phone) and it is official. Just flash it.
Ok, I didn't know that I can put the phone into download mode and flash a new firmware without increase the counter, thx

The only thing that increases the counter is flashing specifically a kernel via Odin that is not signed by Samsung.
This is why flashing some ROMs won't necessarily increase the counter: If you flash a ROM that includes a kernel that is signed by Samsung, it will keep the counter at zero.

That kernel is posted just in case you need it, if you flash a custom or insecure kernel, and want to flash back to stock. If you don't flash a custom of insecure kernel, you won't need it. Wouldn't hurt you to download it anyways though, again, just in case you need it later.

When you go into Download mode, it will display a count if you have ever flashed a non-Samsung signed kernel. If you have never done so, it will not display a count at all.

You'll have to install CWM recovery to do this... which means flashing a kernel NOT signed by Samsung, which means increasing your counter.

you said triangle away worked, the reason i said it was not tested and highly dangerous was because no one even tried on i9100g so thats why.my question is this will it work with i9100g with rootbox ics with cm based kernel?
also eng.mohamed851
are you in ics or gb because triangle away works only for ics.
Triangle Away does not work on I9100g.. It says MAGIC HEADER NOT FOUND.
May be we need to request its developer to make it compatible with I9100G also..

Why do people continue to post offtopic crap in development sections?
This forum is for developments, not questions or general discussion or the "I cant use search button" forum
Questions go in Q&A.
Discussions go in General.
Developments, ie ROMS, Kernels, Mods, Reference etc goes in appropriate device dev forum.
How hard is that to comprehend???

How to install old bootloader and reset counter?
I have a Galaxy s2 GT-I9100 and unsuccessfully attempted to root the phone and the counter is on 5.
Current state of the phone is that it can only access download mode.
Tried a jig, that didn't work. Next tried to install old bootloader using Odin this also failed.
Initially the phone was running ICS and I believe I must have attempted to install an incompatible root kernel.
My intention was to reset the binary counter and then use Kies to restore the original firmware.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Flash a stock Rom via Odin. Wait till your phone boots up. Go back to Odin install a custom kernel (i recommend siyah kernel). Backup your stock Rom, then install a custom Rom. There is a lot of tutorials to tell you exactly how to do this process. If you need help at any point of this process just send me a message and I will give you a detailed walkthrough. You should be fine though!!

How about from the intratech's thread? And is the Odin flash failing risk big with the situation I have right now?
I've used odin A LOT and never had a problem. I only ever use the PDA section and never touch anything else because I don't understand it. I can't comment on intratechs thread as I've never used his software. Any custom ROMs are normally flashed via CWM.

This is because you flashed a wrong kernel for your phone.
# Quick question:
Is your phone on Gingerbread, Android 2.3.x or ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich), Android 4.0.x?

Thanks for that.
I have the I9100BVLPH stock ROM from T-Mobile UK on my phone so I downloaded the correct Chain Fire kernel (CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_LPH-v5.2-CWM5.tar) from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 and this caused the phone not to boot.
Thanks for the link to Siyah, I used the v4.1.5 kernel and it worked great.
Hello there.
I'm in a bit of a trouble so I need some help. I've bought an S2 for my wife from a guy (in Ireland).
The phone was locked on Vodafone so I tried to root it maybe I'll be lucky to unlock it with out paying nothing. So, the phone is on Gingerbread with a BUKJ3 kernel. I've downloaded last night a CF root but by mistake I took a KG3 instead of KJ3. After flashing with Odin 1.85 I got stuck on the boot screen with the yellow triangle.
This morning I've downloaded another kernel as in KJ3 flashed with Odin, the phone is starting but no network coverage, I tried with different Sim cards but nothing so I went in recovery mode and wipe/format data, system, dalvik and cache as factory reset as well. Since that moment the phone won't boot, it gets stuck on the boot screen and yellow triangle.
I can go in recovery mode and download mode with no problem but I can't make it start.
I reflashed the kernel, I don't know what to do and tomorrow is my wife's birthday and I was trying to surprise her with a nice phone but instead looks like she is gonna get a brick ( I hope not)
Thank you guys for any help.
Go to sammobile and get something like unbranded XWLP7 stock rom....flash via odin
Then use rachmats ics rooting guide
Backup efs folder and make nand backup
Then get unlock app(by helroz or chainfire)

Thank you for the reply. I don't mean any disrespect but for the last 3 hours I'm looking over kernels and forum and my brain is really wired now maybe.
I've had a look at sammobile but I can't find what you've recommended. A more specific link will be more than helpful.
Thank you very much anyway. If I'm getting advises it means I didn't bricked the phone so I might be able to fix it.
Once again thank you.
You just go to sammobile, then register, then firmware and files, then put the info in the 4 fields
eg
Smartphone
Android
Gt-i9100
Then uk/ire XEU (or vodafone or whatever..but unbranded better)
Then youll see a list about firmware version and their release date
Eg
Lpt 4.0.4 ics jul 2012
Lp7 4.0.3 ics apr 2012
So download lp7 4.0.3 and flash with odin.
Then use the rooting guide in my sig
Then do the other things I said.

Thank you very much. In the mean while I've managed to find exactly what you've said in your answer. I've choose the gingerbread version of the ROM cause that was what the phone had when I've bought it.
SO, now is it safe to go on ICS like I did half an hour ago with that Gingerbread rom?
Thank you and sorry about the noob question, never used an Samsung, only HTC.
Yeah just do what I said.......not what you think!.

Did it, thank you very much. The phone start but somehow I've lost my IMEI number and base band. I must be really unlucky.
I've read that Odia can help in this matter but if anybody has any idea, I'll be happy to make a donation for getting back the IMEI number.
Once again thank you very much.

People contact Odia when theres a problem with their efs folder/no backup.
But you should have a backup and a nand backup.
I had the same problem yesterday and I restored efs folder/restored nand backup.....which got it back.
So try that or theres a thread about "restore imei in 9 easy steps".

I know I was stupid enough not to read before flashing, but now it too late to think about that.
the thing is I've never used a galaxy phone until these days and I wasn't aware of all this things and I don't know how to restore this NAND backup IF I have one, as I didn't make any backup before flushing. I hope I'll get some help from somebody and as I've said, a nice donation will be on the way to the helper.
Try GSII repair app.But you have to be rooted.

i9100 soft bricked

i tried to flash my brothers sgs2 on 2.3.5 fw( dont remember what exactly) via odin and it stalled on flashing factoryfs.. on multiple fw packadges.. 2.3.5 and 4.0.3 and 4.0.4.. before that the phone worked fine... now i can only put it in download mode with a usb jig..
any thoughts on how to try to fix it?
thnx in advance

If it's really a i9100 then i would flash this stock firmware with Odin in PDA
i will try it ...managed to get it boot to stock recovery by flashing old bootloader... but still no charging...
downloading this fw and will try it
Okay let me know how it goes and just to make sure :
Is it a i9100 or another derivate of the s2?
Did you check the repartition box in Odin? If yes, you'll need a correct pit file for i9100.
There is no such thing as a "soft brick" your device is either bricked or it isn't and if you can get into download mode it isnt "bricked".
What you have done is flash a incompatible rom or kernel to your device.
Firstly give some relevant information, what model/variant is your device? What rom did you try flashing?
If you can get into download mode, flash a custom kernel like Siyah then reboot into recovery, wipe data/fcatory reset and see if rom boots. If not try flashing a custom one like CM10 via recovery until you research and find correct stock one for your device and try ODIN again.
It is a i9100, said so in stock recovery...
The fw i was on was 2.3.5 from austria 3 network.. i think it is KI2 ..
I tried flashing Lp7, but before that i tried my country's KK1(gb) beacause i had it on my pc and i had a cf-root kernel with it...
It also stalled on factoryfs.img.. every fw seems to stall on that...
None of the times i tryed flashing was re-partition ticked..
Im on my job right now but as soon i come home i will try some of these solutions and will report here
Thx
