ViewPad 7 Kernel_Source_Code.zip for ITE - Viewsonic ViewPad 7 & Variants

After several weeks of waiting for VS USA support, finally received email to inform that they've provided me with a link to the ITE kernel's source code for the Vpad7.
However, while I can access the ftp site with the login info and see the document - it's actually a zip file. I believe - I cannot download or save it to disk or file .... GRRRRRR (read only?)
The access privileges to download is not working - researched it a bit further and it seemed that it might also be a linux OS issue - emailed VS back again and hoping to get it resolved so that our developers can dive into it soon.
Meanwhile, I'm posting the info - perhaps our fellow xda's have better success in getting this file without waiting for more VS support. If so, please post the linked file or its newly housed location, thanks - meanwhile, if and when I get a followup reply from them & get thru ftp - I will upload accordingly. Thanks !

Not working for me too @ Android.
Perhaps try an FTP program like TotalCommander on Windows?
I've it installed, but sadly currently I am behind a very strict firewall So no FTP connects available...
Not working with AndFTP on Android too

ViewPad 7 Kernel_Source_Code.zip for ITE, no luck here too
Filezilla screendump to illustrate

ow nice.. I'll look into this tonight and see if I can get it (and build it) sometime next week (no time now, beta testing SW:TOR

tried it with google chrome did not work can take something els but not that file it is not there
well wait for the support i guess

Those bastards!
Code:
[R] Opening data connection IP: 63.251.212.47 PORT: 3616
[R] RETR ViewPad 7 Kernel_Source_Code.zip
[R] 550 ViewPad 7 Kernel_Source_Code.zip: Access is denied.
[R] Transfer Failed!

Happy Thanksgiving to all, thanks for the effort as I would have to pass & share the zip file afterall - no dice, huh! I tried a # of basic tricks myself, turnoff firewall & anti-virus, different browser & different OS on different pc's.
Download disabled on their end & nothing we can do on ours until file settings are toggled. The VSDriverDiskVOT550.ISO image file just below the kernel is accessible and available for download but it's totally unrelated - for a Core 2 Duo mini PC .... LOL.
I didn't expect them to get back with me, but at least I have the Escalation (ET-reference #) and Tech Support's name/phone # for followup if I don't hear from them again by next week.
Patience is the keyword - Cheers ! (P.S. Received email followup late Fri. PM - tried again & NO, got a " 530 User custaccess2 cannot log in" Looks like I must call & speak to someone directly next week, stay tuned.

Thanks for your effort too!

Tried with commandline FTP and got error "550".
"The 550 error is a message from the server stating that the account you have currently logged in as does not have permission to perform the action you are attempting."
So it seems you don't have the rights to download this file.

Update - still no access !! Grrrrr
Just a FYI, no news, luck or success in getting VS's Tech Support to release/change the login privileges to enable download/saved to disk the above referenced kernel zip file. I'm getting the run around, called in by telephone & spoke to another engineer for a few minutes, promised a resolution with an email followup - and, know what - he simply gave me the same userid & pw to obtain the "document" for the next 14 days. SOB never did a thing on their end, getting the "login denied" error msg. again using 3 different pc/browser/os. Followup email went unanswered for 3 days now .... this is really, really annoying & unacceptable customer support.
Here's what they send me -

In my 5 minutes "live" conversation with him, I clearly explained that the other rep - Bernard - issued me this set of uid/pw and a 2n. uid/pw of which both failed, and, that VS needed to change/reset the access privileges from read only to allow copy/download/saved to disk ....
Perhaps someone else in the Euro or Asia Pacific zones wanted to contact their support & request this specific zip file/document and see if you have better luck & then share with rest of us. I will give them 1 or 2 more working days and then call in again, but it might be chasing the ghost with no shadow .... This is truely frustrating to see it dangled in front of your screen and can't do anything about it.

i will send them a email try to get the file my viewpad is send for garantee i hope they dont ask me for specifics on my pad ill give it a shot

Well did not got any response what so ever

Happy New Year to all, I am happy to say that "we" got it - especially those waiting for the ITE Kernel for the Vpad.
Big Thank You to VICarios for joining efforts to repeated contacts with VS Tech Support to release, change the Kernel folder access privileges - I managed to download the files very early this morning (their website/ftp server is very, very, super-slow & disconnecting.) I had them saved (see Update #2 below) - use original link to access it in the next 10 to 14 days.
Also, thank you to Frank_de as he PM'd me about the availability of a new kernel for us on the UK webstie for VS, I do not have the link itself but he should be posting it (otherwise, I will try to find & update) soon.
This, hopefully, is (then, again, maybe NOT) what we need & make it much easier to develop & cook up an OC kernel and make better things happen to our Vpad7 (and, I also found at least 2 custom protective cases for oru device on eBay - link/info under the Accessories)
* * * * Update #1 * * * *
TY, Frank_de - for forwarding the link via PM, and I'm posting the UK link - please d/l and use/review - let's hope it's for the newest ITE hardware and ?? NOT the older non-ITE .... (the file size is the same as mine, d/l from USA link given by VS's Tech Support earlier, I will check & compare)
http://www.viewsoniceurope.com/uk/downloads/ - named "Viewpad 7 Kernel Source" on top (7 files in total, *.qz format plus Excel file & readme)
Update #2 - D/L (took almost an hour & my broadband is rather fast) the 313MB UK *.rar file at lunch time, it is identical to mine. I will not upload my saved zip at this time, unless needed or request by PM. The original username & p/w will work fine for now if anyone choose to use the USA site. The UK site is open access, no FTP necessary so I suggest that we just use the UK verison .... The original file dates are Jan. 2011 -
bionic.tar.gz
build.tar.gz
dalvik.tar.gz
external.tar.gz
kernel.tar.gz
plus info only file in Excel & README > > > Have Fun !

Thank you Letitride! I can't wait to see. You guys really rock!
Sent from my ViewPad7 using XDA App

Thanx for your great work!
But there seems no source codes for the ITE touchscreen included!

Thanks - but, I see So, there's nothing in those files to .... and I believe your words & trust your opinions.
Those nuts at VS, arrrhhhhh. I jus ripped out that Excel file & attaching it here as I know a few of you out there are watching this thread with interest for the OC kernel ....
So much for the moments of joy after weeks of disappointment & heads banging against the walls.

I thought this was posted earlier already(?). I also posted a reply yesterday, but it's gone. Is this the right one? Downloads at <50KB/s...
PS: Are the Viewpad 7 forums dying? I haven't seen new ROMs since oktober.

That's the right one, s2k7 has looked inside (and others, I believed) concluded that those SOB at Viewsonic did NOT release any kernel source codes for the ITE hardware.
As for newer ROM, it's true there really isn't anything new lately but if it ain't broke, don't fix it or change a thing. I've been on EU v1.7 ETU version since last September, it's solid & reliable, does 95% of what I expect this Vpad/CPU/hardware & software can do - except for overclocking and other fine-tuning. ICS will not run on this nor will Adobe Flash Player.
I still check & keep my eyes open for anything going on on this sub-forum on a regular basis but as we all know, most tech. geeks are "buzzing" around the Samsung Galaxy series and dual core CPU & high end graphics, ours is aimed at a different market segment and tier of users. so it should be be a surprise that we aren't getting a lot of developers to help us out. If you think this is "boring" - it isn't - we got an Amazon 3G Kindle Touch, 6" E Ink eReader, unbelievable battery life, but horrible "multi-touch" screen and sluggish experimental browser - it is what it is even with simply rooting, gave it to 12 years old niece, she loved it for school project, downloading eBooks and listening to MP3's. It's cute but it won't play Angry Bird 2012 or Mahjong on it, arrrh ... so re-gifted it away for the holiday.
My point is that the Vpad7 has practically fulll access to Market and Apps and like you & others, always wishing for more - faster and better, etc. But, have all the fun with what this 7" pad has proven in its offering.

[ROM] Viewsonic Viewpad 7 Froyo Enhanced

Viewpad 7a 'Enhanced' (RC1)
Viewpad 7a is a quick and dirty modification of the stock firmware from Viewsonic. This should be a decent alternative to the stock image, with improved performance and appearance.
Highlights:
- Removed the 'Welcome' logo and replaced with stock android boot animation.
- Replaced stock boot image with overclocked version: Credit goes to TJ Style @ Modaco.
- Minor framework modifications (got rid of annoying white status bar, and misc images).
- All packaged applications remain, but I will add or remove any upon request.
- Enabled hardware acceleration.
Notes:
- Firmware should work with compatible devices such as: Cherry Mobile Superion, Commtiva Linx N700, Olivepad VT-100, Spice MI700, and Camangi FM600....but I do not have these devices, so I cannot verify. As always make a backup before installing any custom firmwares.
Known Issues:
- You may receive an error from Swype upon initial use to the effect that 'it's not meant for this firmware and may be limited'. I haven't had any issues since seeing this, and have disregarded it for the time being.
- Root condition has been known to intermittently go away. Remedy this by running Super One Click again after you've flashed the ROM.

I'm currently working on a Vanilla AOSP port of Gingerbread for this device, and this will be the main focus of my effort. I will try my best to answer any bug reports or requests for changes to this firmware, but won't make any promises.
As always a big thanks to everyone in the Android community that shares they're knowledge and support.
To install this firmware use ClockworkMod to flash the zip file. (I use version 2.5.1.2). Information on rooting and installing an alternative recovery partition is available here.
DISCLAIMER: I cannot be held liable for anything you do to your Viewpad 7 (or equivalent device). Make sure you are comfortable with recovery tools, such as ClockworkMod, before proceeding.

Update (August 22nd, 2011): I've deactivated the download link until I get time to put out a better update with ITE support.
If I am not wrong this device is similar to Commtiva N700/ Spice Mi-700/ Olive Pad VT-100.
Nice to hear someone taking the initiative for development on this device
I've added the compatible devices I'm aware of to the first post. I may take advantage of CM scripting in the Gingerbread port. Will update when I have time. I've attached a screenshot from the froyo firmware below if anyone is interested.
I've been using it for the past two days without any issues. I borrowed a SIM card from a friend today to test the data connectivity and call function. Both work flawlessly. The battery life isn't as good with the CPU overclocked, but it's worth it for the extra boost of performance.
I was planning to get this device with my first salary which is few months from now
BTW, To make things easier you can use Cyanogen 7 which I think is having support for similar hardware.
Can MeeGo 1.2 be ported for this Device?
It will be releasing this April.

Looks good.
But I prefer Android with its vanilla looks.
Can LCD density be used with this Tablet? does it work?
Please check that out.
Nice to see someone finally making a custom ROM for this device. Would be nice to have something like HyperDroidGBX for the HD2 using AOSP, Redux, CyanogenMod.... that's one hell of a nice piece of Gingerbread.
Hopefully the Viewpad 7 will get its own sub-forum and your ROM will be the first in it.
Cheers!

I think if there's enough community interest XDA may create a dedicated forum for these devices. We'll see.
Thank you for your work. On the Russian forum owners viewpad 7 Your beginnings of this work has generated enormous interest. Would you in their versions of the firmware to include more locations? Good luck in your work. Sorry for the English.

Adding a Russian keyboard and locales would not be difficult if you know of another ROM that is using them in Froyo, or perhaps someone has them on a repo somewhere?

I have clockworkmod recovery installed, works, and overclock boot.img installed works too.
My VIEWPAD 7 has still stock ROM with Chinese handwriting touch, if I flash this custom ROM, do I loss Chinese handwriting function ?
Does all wifi, bluetooth, GPS, 3G network, multi-touch remain the same ?
Also, I am looking for App2SD script, to extend my internal /data/apps -> mSD card (ext2/3/4) paritition too.
thanks, cheers

I order a viewpad 7 from amazon on saturday. I had some concern about it and was wondering if I made the right choice. Now that I see that you are working on increasing its performance, I feel comfortable with my choice now.
I install gappinstaller v5 on a archos 70 and 101 with no problem by following the step by step direction. I dont have my viewpad 7 as yet but I hope the installation goes smoothly. I donate
I flashed it to a WellcoM A800 and the GSM radio doesn't work anymore. Whatever I do it indicates that I'm in airplane mode. I tried with three different SIM cards with the same result.
Please advise...

The ViewPad finally arrived this morning. Got it all rooted, CWM'd and the ROM installed.
Nice work!
The wife will love it when she gets home tonight!
I'll definately let you know if I come up with any suggestions.
Well, one suggestion now:
move all the non-essential apps from system to data so they're easily removable.
Actually I can do that myself in a little bit...
Looking forward to Gingerbread!
Thanks again!

[Q] ROM solution to WiFi issue?

Hi folks
As mentioned in a thread I posted a couple of weeks back (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1207476), Samsung have very annoyingly blocked WiFi channels 12 & 13 on US-originated Tab 10.1s with their latest TouchWiz UX update.
I've got a Tab that I had been using quite happily on chan 13 (minimal interference from neighbouring WiFi APs), but after the updated it wouldn't connect at all, yet could see other networks. Moving the AP channel down <12 solved it, but this only works for my home AP that I have control over. The one at work is on either 12 or 13 and therefore now isn't visible.
The guys at PC Pro have tried their UK-purchased Tab 10.1 and it's working fine, so it seems to be just with the US ones that Samsung have blocked this.
I've logged a support request about it but don't hold out any great hope of them fixing it.
I was therefore wondering if anyone could think of a good way to re-enable this. Do the Tabs had a modem/radio type bin that could be flashed along the lines of the SGS II? If so would this do the trick or are chans 12/13 being blocked elsewhere?
Thanks for any suggestions - as you can see at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223978 I'm not the only one who has run into this problem!
(PS - have already tried a full factory reset before anyone suggests it )
What about flashing a Euro rom, would that then enable the extra channels?
That's the kind of thing I was wondering about, but wasn't sure if it would work or not.
My model number is GT-P7510UWYB and it's 16GB WiFi only model.
Do you think it would just be a case of getting hold of the stock August update for a UK device (and if so, any links? ) and installing it via Download mode/Odin or would it object to that saying it's not a valid ROM for that model?
I don't know I.f there's a newer rom than those shown on the samfirmware site, someone with more knowledge than me may point you in the right direction.

[Q] Problems updating Hyundai T7s tablet to jelly bean 4.2 (official rom)

Hi all,
I'm encountering some problems when i'm trying to update my Hyundai T7S tablet to the official jelly bean 4.2 ROM.
I've the update from the Hyundai website (hyundai-digital .cn). This download comes in a .rar file. I knew it would be impossible, but tried anyway to flash this file from the SD-card. But to make it work this way, the update should be a .zip-file.
In the .rar file are 15 files, some of them are .bin and .img files. And I've not the knowledge what I can do with these files. Unfortunately the support guide of Hyundai can not be opened and two hours googling didn't help me out. So here's my question:
Is it possible to convert the .rar file into a .zip file and flesh this file? Or can I flash the rar-file in some way?
Thanks!
ps. i had the full links copied in my message, but since this is my first post, i cannot post links. Sorry for that!

Extract all files in zip to SD card (ext.). Power OFF. Press Volume - and Power and update will start. Looks like you use Volume + not - witch takes you to recovery mode. When done tablet will turn OFF. Power ON and you should have new firmware.
You are talking about "HYUNDAI T7S-20130318" ?....if yes it is not 4.2 is still 4.0.4; If you found a most recent one (4.2), can you email me with download link please ?....I can't find 4.2 for T7(S). Thank you !
I think 4.2 is not yet aivailable at all.

exactly. even though some sites advertise it as a 4.2 device, the latest available stable fw is still the 4.0.4 from the 18th of March.
I just tried exynos abuse 1.4 about 2 hours ago on my t7s and it worked like a charm.
Waiting for 4.2 too
Another T7S user here, waiting for 4.2, too. Is there something wrong with the website? When I visit http://www.hyundai-digital.cn/ it tells me:
bad requesta (invalid hostname)
I copy/pasted it, and yes, it's "requesta". I don't know what's going on with that D:

from what i've read (some weeks ago): the main hyundai company has told that branch producing the tablets not to manufacture devices to be exported from china, so they're cutting the rest of the world off their official site --> you'll be able to reach the webpage via a chinese proxy (as if you're browsing from china).
about the update for which we're all waiting for: last time it was told to be released in 2013 june, so i still haven't given up yet. anyway: just search for "slatedroid" on the internet if you'd like to get updates about the tablet in english

Another possibility could be porting CyanogenMod OR buying a tablet to a developer. We already have CM for the same SoC, so I think about xplodwild or codeworkx, the two main i9300 maintainers

That would be great!
This tablet will literally fly with CM.
How can I ask to a developer to port to this device? Is it there a specific forum? Or just pm them?

Well that'd then be the reason why the 4.2 ROM for the rest of the world is now available to download through MediaFire rather than an official Hyundai page.
For those who haven't found it yet, this post on the GeekBuying blog details the download and installation of the 4.2.2 upgrade.
I'm in the process of downloading the 222Mb archive now; going rather slow which is nothing new for MediaFire.

anyway: everyone can still reach the site (http://www.hyundai-digital.cn/download.asp?ClassID=1) via any chinese proxy and check out regularly if there's anything new announced (like the stable release for the 'plain' T7, which was uploaded earlier today.

It probably is the website of Hyundai Korea, not Hyundai China (maker of T7s).

Has anyone managed to root this T7s Android4.2.2 ? When I tried to root it , it returned an 'error' saying that this image is sort of immune to rooting. I tried with exynos root method.

Another cheapo Chinese tablet with embedded Trojan, Help Please!!

Hi Peeps,
Long time since I've been here so apologies in advance of any protocol breaches!!
Ok so I've been beta testing several Elecost q10.1 tablets for a while and they have all been unstable, ie random reboots, up to 20 a day. The local supplier says he's flummoxed and that only a neglible amount of customers have the issue. Anyway I've been reading a negative review on Amazon a customer who claims there's a Trojan embedded from an unclean Android version in the system files. The supplier claims it's an innocuous relic from previous versions and not active to the server it was linked too.
I ran Stubborn Trojan Killer and Malwarebytes and yes I have a trojan, Android/Trojan.Dapper.Agent.Apw in the googlesync system file. The device is un-rooted. I have disabled Googlesync app.
My questions really are,
A) Is this the cause of the above instability?
B) How do I remove it? Is it a case of rooting/renaming file? Apparently someone else removed it and it bricked the device.
Or can I just install a new ROM?
Any pointers, even to best rooting method, would be really appreciated!
Cheers
M

I'm lonely here!

Hi there.
Is your device's cpu a MT8163? Being based on C805 I may be able to help you
If so let take a look at that firmware. Is there a place to download it or do you have a version I can look at?
thank you

Question Looking for official XQ-BC62_61.0.A.23.20_Customized US

I'm looking for a copy of this firmware release. It's the last Xperia 1 III Android 11 release.
Tools like Xperifirm and Emma will only give me the Android 12 release.
It was available here, but there aren't any more mirrors: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=17825722713688254698
If anyone can upload a copy of it, I'll even tip you.
Many thanks.
Sony put it in the Open source archive. Here:
Open source archive for 61.0.A.23.20 - Sony Developer World
developer.sony.com
Hey there, thanks for the help.
I was looking for the built release by Sony for flashing on the XQ-BC62, not the source.
Sorry about the confusion.
Oh, I see that now. It's late here. You can check this out ....BUT idk.
Xperia 1 III XQ_BC62 61.0.A.23.20 firmware with Setool.rar | VietNam GSM Services
vngsmservices.com
With Sony removing software with updates, a archive might be a good idea.
Awesome, many thanks. Unfortunately, I can't get past the paywall even though I paid (isn't working, he's not responding). Halabtech seems to have every recent version but that one, so guess I'm playing the waiting game. If you happen to know of any other sites, I'd appreciate if you threw them my way.

Here's a copy: https://drive.google.com/file/d/15EhKdzxhXouKzJRdKDwwj6f3uglfqIkn/view?usp=sharing
I zipped up the one I had backed up from when I rooted my phone, luckily I saved a copy just in case.
I don't need a tip or anything, but it would be great if someone could back this up somewhere, especially since it seems like the Android 12 release for this model is really buggy.

I backed it up, done. I was thinking of starting a thread for rooted Android 12 to compare bugs after root. This would depend on device type and Rom.
If I use this on my UK phone will it still work or is it going to need the Customized UK version
edit for anyone else curious: Yes it works fine
Guys, I really appreciate the help with this. I've downloaded a copy, many thanks.
One of the problems I have with Android 12 is the assistant just going in and out. Sometimes she responds, sometimes she doesn't, no matter how many times I train her. On Android 11, she works perfectly fine.
