How do i update the galaxy player to android 2.3.5? - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

Hello all,
i just bought a galaxy player wifi 5 inches and it came eith froyo 2.2.
I heard it is possible to update it with samsung kies, but when i connect it, there are no updates. Some versions of the device come with gingerbread as default.
Any suggestions about what todo to update it?
Thanks.
I didnt see any forum for galaxy player, so i created the thread here.

either go with kies (official software by Samsung)
or head to samsfirmware.com, grab the update and flash it with ODIN.
if i were you, i'd stick with kies.
once updated, you can root your device with zergrush (just google it)

I also suggest you to stick with Kies for now. Since we have heard people got 2.3.5 update from various countries, I believe yours is not far behind.

Updated mine last night with KIES. Everything went smoothly.

When I connect with Kies it doesn't give me the option to update, it says the latest firmware version is PDA:KD6 / CSC:KD6 (XEU)
Which is 2.2.2 as far as I understand.

I guess they are rolling it out at their own pace. The update didn't show up on my KIES installation but yesterday. Maybe you can uninstall-reinstall with a different country?

No more 3d and bass option on 2.3.5? Can anyone confirm these?

I need to try to update when I get home today
EDIT: Mine already has 2.3.5

I wonder why Sammy removed that feature. I guess i'll stick to froyo for now. 2.3.5 is still not available in my kies. I'll go check that one. Thanks!

So is G70XXKD6## Gingerbread or Froyo?

That's great to hear, will it be easy to create ROMs for EU and USA brands once one has been done.

I miss the auto volume option, but gingerbread is really more fast and its worth to update.

i am one of the new owners of this rig. will use superoneclick and root first, then try cm7. are there any suggestions for custom ROMs?
thanks..

Same here. The Galaxy Tab roll out of Gingerbread was an equally long drawn out affair.
When did people in other countries get their updates? Presumably the US devices came with 2.3.5? Anyone else?
Speaking of updates to GB, has anyone actually flashed a kernel with the new bootloaders? I don't want to flash over a locked bootloader.

Had email back from UK support said there is no planned upgrade planned to go to gingerbread wtf?

You, J, and myself, have a SERIOUS flashing addiction, lol. I think we've tried just about every ROM release out there amongst the three of us. The Kangs, Rods, eViLs, Innovations, Enoms, Cyans, Modaccos, etc .. lol. Every last one.
I'll be talking to jlevy on gtalk, and next thing I know I'll get a message "New build" .. and immediately I drop what I'm doing, pending importance level, and get to downloading and flashing .. even middle of the night. *sigh* ..

Well, I'm quite a ROM addict and I've flashed this (except the hboot... it's got the new 17 hboot as opposed the the 12 hboot in the ATT/TMo ROM) and other than some VF specifics like APNs, i've not noticed any difference...

uber fast as always: thanks!
anything new as compared to kj1?
Thanks for the post. Safe to assume this has the new bootloader, correct? If so, I'll wait for Intratech to give us the old resettable one.
Hate the yellow triangle.
Has XEF CSC, apparently french.
megaupload or rapidshare mirror please?
total wipe or frankstein??
Why do those releases not come with an official changelog ^^
If new bootloader, any need to change normal flashing procedure with odin? (reboot+reset time+pda)
Anyone flashed this already? Is it branded? Please report.
It does have the new bootloader, just FYI. It's not a wipe ROM (which is the normal thing for these... most are non-wipe).
The new bootloader doesn't require any different flashing technique. It simply means that resetting the flash counter is more difficult. Just flash the old bootloader via PDA (or Bootloader) and you can reset via USB Jig again. No problem.
Everything works well. No issues whatsoever. Fixed a few missing bits that I had from my stripped down Kitchen ROM, like flash not working in the stock browser, for example.
KI4 modem works fine for me.
I've been quite happy with ki8, so what's your feedback on this new release? Smoother? Faster?
I haven't noticed any speed boost over KI8, honestly. It's equal in performance.
Fixed the vibrate icon?
Google talk video?

Vibrate icon still there. Google talk is the same as from KI8.
So its the same thing as all the other updates. Though - wasn't the KJ2 modem used in ICS for the Samsung Galaxy demo at the Google event?

Could someone please post a default build.prop or help me edit the current one?
You need to have fully stock ROM first in order to receive the update.
Also, stock kernel and relock bootloader.
I can always flash some GB ftf and upgrade from there or flash straight up to ICS but it's not what I want. Wrong SI gives me wrong hardware keyboard layout and also problems with wifi.
I.e. I'm trying to find a way to go to full stock with correct SI for my phone.
I was desperate enough to invest 1,99 € for Wotanserver but the f*cker crashed on me twice and then I gave up.
You could flash a .ftf and then edit your build.prop with the wanted CDA, in order to get your region's update

I tried that. I flashed some generic ftf and edited following lines in build.prop:
Code:
ro.semc.version.cust=1249-4832
ro.build.fingerprint=SEMC/SK17i_1249-4832/SK17i:2.3.4/4.0.2.A.0.42/j_b_3w:user/release-keys
ro.product.name=SK17i_1249-4832
After first reboot SEUS and PCC said no updates. After second reboot a boot loop occurred.
So there must be something else in build.prop that I must change.
Uhm... bootloop after the SECOND reboot? That sounds strange.
Boot loop comes after SUS tries to update (but cannot find the updated firmware)
Still looking for the build.prop...
Sent from my Xperia Mini Pro using XDA
Editing si number only in build.prop and cust.prop will not fool SUS or SEUS.

How about PCC then?

In your build.prop dont put your si number there, look the CDA list for your phone and choose your region and in build.prop you have to put your region CDA there,DONT put your si anywhere, just CDA is that you have to edit
the CDA or SI is also seen at the back of the phone, right?

[ROM][Official Stock] France (Free mobile) [2012-09-12]

Just saw the new ROM for S5830 Ace on SamMobile.
PDA: S5830XWKTQ
CSC: S5830FRELT2
Version: 2.3.6
Date: 2012-09-12
Regions: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=8&view=6821
What's the difference between this and the Spanish Rom S5830XWKTQ ??
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
Repacked ROM
Thanks mudkipstar.
Repacked ROM, just PDA file for odin.
Bootloader, Baseband (radio) and CSC has been removed.
No risk of hard brick, no lose of 3G or WIFI problem, no operator customization.
Can upgrade from other stock without factory reset (still not recommended).
For root, use Gingerbread universal root.
Download from Dropbox.
Tested.
Edit:
boot.img (!=) is not equal to bootloader (arm11boot)
For more information about boot.img see this and this . Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Post build.prop from this firmware who have downloaded
Root works fine .. :good:
looking at build.prop it is exact KTQ which is carrier free.. this may just add some language / bloat and csc
So they uploaded a new firmware only to add some launguage etc. ?

huh?
i downloaded the file, inside CODE_S5830XWKTQ.tar.md5 there is a boot & recovery image file...always a risk for a brick.
Hi,
I have flashed this ROM successfuly on S5830 Ace using Odin PC, and appart from a few usual lags, it works great ! (Merci Free !)
However, I tried flashing it using the experimental Mobile ODIN port which brings support for Galaxy Ace (S5830), but after following the exact instructions posted, my Ace reboots a few times as expected ... but reboots back into the old ROM as if nothing had happened oO At least it isn't bricked ...
The Mobile ODIN port for S5830 is posted here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2029180, and since I'm a newcomer to the forum I can't post my problem there yet
Does anybody else experience this wierd behavior ?
Do note I haven't tried flashing other ROMs with it yet since I'm mainly concerned about this particular one for the moment.
Edit : I had root enabled before flashing. And just in case it rings any bells, I'm flashing this ROM over itself to restart from scratch, ie:this ROM is already installed on my Ace via Odin PC.

if you did the Odin flash correctly and the problem still persist. maybe there's a problem with the ROM. try flashing the Spanish ROM same as this.
I suggest you flash a custom ROM. faster than stock ROM. and theres a lot of customization options for it.
welcome, BTW.

Cheers ijustzeke, I'm glad to be here
I tried flashing another ROM from sammobile, it failed the same (they're in proper .tar.md5 format since they work via Odin PC) ... until ...
... I flashed the Cyanogenmod 7 ZIP via CWM. Then, I was able to reinstall MobileODIN and flash the stock rom over CM7, this is wierd ...
Thanks for the tips anyway, I'll post my problems in the dev thread when my profile matches the requirements, cheers !
