[Q] Sudden power off. - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys!! i have had a problem with my X10. When i play some games on my phone it all of a sudden powers off. When i power it on it boots and switches off again. I tried updating the software but it didn't work. Can anyone help me with this..... is this a hardware problem?

which rom r u using and ru overclocking ur rom to play games !! if ur overclocking the ROM then certain games has this problem of causing random reboots too !! if not then try installing the game again after wiping ur cache!! and fix permissions

Flash thjap's kernel, while playing games overclock to 1152 and enjoy. If you have ram manager, then select the option "hard play games"
CheersS!

Same problem here.
It is not a kernel problem.
There is a problem in our phone battery i think.
You would notice that-before restarting the phone is too hot

have u try to re-plug the battery ?

Look at my signature...
1.st link.
It's overheating.

I had random reboots earlier in the year, so i took my phone to my local 3 shop and (although it was rooted) they took it in for repair. A week later, i went to pick it up and to my suprise they gave me a brand new phone, saying the hardware had malfunctioned and so it was un-repairable. I wasnt expecting that as i knew i had voided my warrenty, but from my experience it could be hardware related
Hope that kinda helps?

Yeah. Rooting does not void your warranty. unlocking BL does. Any idea on what hardware issue it is? Do u have the same problems with the new phone as well?

Does changing the battery help??

I had the same problem and would get voltage drops or inconsistent voltage when the battery wasn't near-full yet I could slowly drain the device but under load would shut down....
I tried a gazillion things to fix it including a number of different kernels...
just changing the battery fixed EVERYTHING!
And batteries were pretty cheap.

Hello folks,
I have the same problem with some roms.
The phone turn always off in 50% of battery. Ive been testing a few methods like battery calibration by app, xrec and omegared process, but none works.
Im trying to install the SE tock rom but nothing works, in that moment I´m wainting to receive a new battery but I´ve read from some people with same problem that a new battery neither a solution.
If someone in this problem have been this problem with a solution a I would like to know about it

As I wrote above, I had the same issue as you
and like you I tried all those things.
A new battery DID solve my problem So, hopefully it WILL solve yours.
This phone is pretty old. March 2010 to now is 20 months which is around the time I don't trust these battery to work well. My carrier (NTT Docomo) even gives you a new battery after 24 months.

Random Reboots?
The phone has always occasionally rebooted itself from time to time since I bought it . I think whenever resource contention becomes too critical it reboots itself like "have you tried turning it off and on again" in the TV Series "The IT Crowd"
The phone rebooting itself from time to time only really impacts you if it does it while you are in the middle of something. That never happens to me. Usually the reboots are when the phone is short on free memory but in sleep mode for me.
In the past week, my phone has rebooted once or maybe even twice but that's about it.

[Q] Random Reboots?

Have you guys ever experienced your x10 randomly restarting itself? Sometimes when I'm talking on the phone or just have my phone lying on my bed, it just restarts itself. I doesn't bother me too much since it isn't that frequent, but it pisses me off when it does restarts while I am on the phone...
Does anyone know why it does this and how it can be prevented?
Hi shukla,
I've got exactly the same problem! Which firmware is on your phone? I've got the 026 on my X10i. I think it's the firmware or the new root method?!
If I'll find some time this week I would like to try some things out...Some other experienced that problems, too?
Regards,
Martin
I've had random reboots as well running 26 firmware (using the 3 step root method) thankfully never during a call last time was while in Toronto this past Saturday taking pictures with Vignette.
I'm on 024 (rooted).
I think I was wrong with my thoughts. Today I've read a lot about our problem with rebooting. Seems it is the Sony backup application. It is randomly accessing the SIM card and thats the reason why our phones crashes. Right now I am going to flash my phone again. I'll tell you some more details after flashing is done.
Ok, well it's not easy to fix that problem. Yesterday I flashed my X10 about 6 times. With original SEUS firmware and the problem still appears. Then I flashed with 026 debranded firmware. After that I rooted my phone with the doshaska.net method. After that I removed the restore/backup app from /system/app. The problem still appears till now - but not so often. In fact, I had reboots every minute, so my phone didn't came up. I really don't have a clue why it happen. Someone else got an idea?
Regards ,
Martin
The only way I could stop mine from rebooting was to remove SetCPU. Are you using it? If so, feeze it or remove it and see how it goes. I do have another problem now with the damn screen not sleeping unless i push the power button! Oh well, the joy of fiddling
Nothing out of the usual battery dain yet. I am running the branded Dutch t- mobile firmware. I'm going to root it soon.

hope it help someone

luv my x10 though i ve also got iphone but i ve never looked back
Just curious, how hot is everyone's phone when it reboots? I've noticed my x10 doing the same when its running a little warm. It usually starts acting up when it's over 105 degrees Fahrenheit.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Gitin thx..it looks much better now, however yeasterday I was carrying my x10(still with no memory card in it) in the pocket, it got pretty hot (most probably over 38 degrees) and it turned into this rebooting "mode"..finally I left battery for 20 minutes in cold place..x10 got back to normal..I think that random reboots are the matter of memory card issue (You have solved this problem) or/and overheating of battery - still couldnt find any clue how to ease this pain but read somewhere that Froyo for x10 will have this problem taken care of..
i think ( depends on my experiences) the telephone need to reboot coz one applications from SD card want to launch (send or receive) some commands from or to internal (built in memory).
that's means this applications needs to move temporary to internal memory just to execute this command so absolutely android system will restart to create virtual memory to this application to let it runs correctly
first it's better to remove backup/restore programs or make its runs manually, if you have another software need to save data to SD memory ,remove it.
it's better to launch applications directly from internal memory to win the time and performance but At the expense of the memory size
ps: all that explanations depend on the framework version.
sorry for complex explain but i don't have easy way to explain this problems
i suddenly have it now to, first every hour, now every 5 minutes, my phone won't start up anymore
sorry..bad news..its pretty cold here in Poland so battery shouldnt turn to hot that easily but apparently the problem is more serious..I have to admit that random reboots occur less frequently than before but that **** still hapens to my x10..after no more than 2 days I had gotten memory card removed it got back to malfunctioning again..
it really pisses me off that I cant enjoy this phone anymore..
android 2.1 or higher is my only hope..
if anybody solved that issue entirely..please, dont be shy, do not hesitate..help us, please!

i too am hanging on for the 2.1 update to hope it solves the problem. I've a feeling there's going to be a lot of x10s going into SE for a service though when it is released and doesn't solve the problem!
I'm not 100% but is this problem the entire phone powering down, or just the connection to your network, mine just loses its network connection and then connects again, over and over ........
there's nothing 2.1 update will do
as our phone was working fine when v bought it, its completely a hardware fault
ok do this...
1.take out sim
2.format ur memory card
3.repair through SEUS or root process watever..
4.turn on ur x10 without sim and leaving formatted card inside
it will still give u hard time u can try putting some video on ur memory card and try to play it few times, ur x10 will turn off and wont turn on until u take out battery for few seconds or take ur x10 in front of Air-Conditioner
as someone suggested in rooting thread to keep ur x10 in front of air-conditioner if u get errors while rooting or if rooting process stucks in middle
the same thing applies in our case...try using ur phone in front of A-Con it wont turn off
i tried with a new battery ...still the same
as i ve been repairing mobile phone from last 5 years, i opened my x10, took out the motherboard, took out all plates over IC's, cpu and cleaned it with acetone properly and heated cpu and whole board with Hot Air Gun...everybody who repairs mobile phones knows what i am talking about
still its the same....
still i am not saying i know everything, anybody knows what the problem is and suggest the overcome is most welcome
nxt few months gonna b really cold at my place...i definitely think i'll notice a difference as its really hot these days which is causing my x10 to die
I did experience this when I debranded my AT&T X10. I have since gone back to the AT&T ROM and have not had this issue since. My battery life has also improved. I did root and remove all the AT&T bloatware. I also edited settings.db to allow for installing non-market apps. This phone is very fast and smooth now with almost no glitches at all.
mine won't even work anymore..once per every 20 or 30 times and than it turns off itself very quick..I can't recharge battery, nothing..really hope that 2.1 will help somehow..I am thinking of getting back to very first soft that x10 was launched with..seriously I am sickin tired with that ****..

Hi, I have an AT&T X10 and wonder what you debranded your phone to? I debranded mine about a week after I got it to R2BA026 Latin America and never had any issue with rebooting.
Aside from needing to power off the phone to check for software updates (two weeks ago of course ) my phone has been up for +358 hours without an issue, and that's with installing the AmbientTime home screen several days ago.

[Q] big problem in the Sony Ericsson X 10

I have a phone x10 and when brought him cargo is heated in a strange way and continues to work to restart and repeat the process until you remove the battery from it and allow it to cool down and when you update it to 2.3 increased this problem and also occurs when I open any application on the device is heated and continues to work to restart even remove the battery and leave it cool I do not know what the solution and knowing I was in Egypt I do not trust any of the maintenance engineers here, what is the solution
Looks like battery problem.
Try another battery,if problem still persists then its a hardware problem.

I just don't understand what do you mean :confuse: "continue to work to restart" it mean boot up and restart immediately? If you repaired you phone and it can't help, you should bring it to SE Service cause it maybe hardware errors. Even if the phone boot up and restart, just repair and it will be OK cause it's sofeware error. Your situation should be hardware...
Sounds like a Battery Problem. Although, with my Motorola Droid X i also have a battery that heats up a lot.
But just to make sure, see if you can find another battery (maybe from another x10) or something, then test to see if the battery does that same. If with another battery, the phone still heats up, then its a hardware problem.
If the phone doesn't heat up with another battery, then the original battery is the problem.
i'm from Egypt too... got my phone stuck at SE Logo but SE service (Delta office in mansoura) gave me a new stock 2.1 ROM...they can calibrate ur battery but i can't affirm they will fix the hardware issue... any way if u have a warranty they will replace ur X10i with a new one.
NOTE:1.they will check ur phone first for 20 L.E (IF U DON'T HAVE WARRANTY)
2.if u have warranty and they told u that they can't replace ur phone cause they don't have any (saw that with my eyes) or any reason just e-mail SE telling them all about that with the name of SE service company and so on(some one said it worked for him and they replaced his phone).
3.if the problem is only a software please refer to the forum (u don't want to be charged 100 L.E if u don't have warranty).

the phone powered off it self until i pressed the power button to turn on again. i noticed this often happened when i put in my pocket for a while. but when i put it on table over night it didn't happen.
roms that i tried that had the same problem:
batista 3.7++
lightening 3+,6+
cognition 1.4+
apps that i tried uninstalled but no avail:
-setcpu
-daemon control(batista rom)
-juice defender
is it due to motherboard issue? appreciate your advice. thanks.

So the this issue s only occurring when the phone is in your pocket and never when out of your pocket.
this happens to my Phone as well.. its kinda random...
sometimes when am listening to music and sometimes when its just on standby
for example it just restarted which reminded me to search for this error...
few days ago it was on standby and had shut itself down and the battery was completely drained after 5 hours without anything on.

thanks for your advice, will try stock rom then
Ya, do that... just to see what is going on.
More on the technical side, the screen needs minimum 500Mhz to get out of Sleep Mode. Some custom Rom's use a low voltage or "underclock" feature that reduces the power consumption but also the number of CPU steps. That is what makes your phone crash and reboot randomly.
Once you put the stock ROM, do a sdcard wipe (if you use one), just to be safe. It should take several hours, so do it over the night. Personally I would not use an external sdcard during the one week test, just be sure.
You could also have a RAM (hardware) issue, ya. But 99% of the time is related to software. Bad memory degrades fast so you will see your random reboots pop at a faster frequency. If you did all the above and still experience random reboots, run adb logcat to see what is going on at that specific moment. If you get error codes like:
Code:
code 1 (SEGV_MAPERR), fault addr 00000000
you are dealing with bad memory unfortunately and need to service your phone.

I also heard that some people had bad battery contacts on their S2. Clean them with some audio head tape cleaner and cotton swabs, than make sure the contacts are proper... it should eliminate this possibility. In a way, it makes sense since you move a lot with your phone in your pocket.

how can i root my sgs2...?
it also happened to my phone. so i brought it back to the store where i purchased it and told them that it was shutting down randomly when i put it in my pocket. after 15 days of waiting i called them for follow up because they told me it will take 7-10 working days. they told me that the phone never shut down in the service center. what can i do about it? i don't know how to flash or root. this is my first android phone.
I have finally found a solution... installed XXKH3 FW stock, not rooted yet, and installed an application from the android market called Load Monitor
Code:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.landak.loadmon
and enabled only Add Notifications, only notify high load, autostart and only screen on... seems to do the job, no battery drainage and most of all NO SOD (Sleep Of Death) or restarts anymore
If you still have problems try checkin wake lock from the options of the app...
Hope it helps

The phone did not rebooted in their store because they did not move it, you have a bad battery contact that can be fixed easy.

[Q] Restarts.

I have bought xps about 20 days ago. Yesterday and today , while I was surfing the net via wifi (both times) , my phone suddenly switched off and made a restart. Did anyone experience a problem like this ?? It never happened before.
Not had that problem - infact I was just thinking today that I haven't restarted my phone for a week.. and it still feels super smooth... which I've never experienced before on Android!
Never had a sudden restart, lag or unresponsive device. Seems that you are the only one here with such a luck...

Unfortunately sudden restarts are very common in the android world. I think 80% of the android smartphones had at least once this problem. You should wait to see if it happen again and if so try a hard reset or a software repair using sony pc companion. If it will become a common problem even with other users sony with a future update it will fix the problem. What software version do you have .62 .67 or .73 ?
Hi,
If you have this reboot issue
Nothing can resolve this!
But,just in case
Do not use your phone with charger pluged in for long time!
This kill your battery very quick!
And cause autoreboot
And be careful with internet!
If you flash some FW or rom or kernel
Made a full charge before flash
Ciao
I've had this happen to me on my Xperia S twice already while using it.
It also randomly restarts while in standby once in awhile.
Not sure what's causing this. Any suggestions?

If it's not happening very offen like twice a day, the only thing you can do is wait for the 4.0 update, because If you look in all the other android smartphone forums you will see that every android model have this issue from time to time. I think is something like the Windows OS bluescreen...very very difficult for normal users to detect where is the problem. I think with the 4.0 update the problem it will be solved. But if the Xperia S become unstable and randomly rebooting every day try a software repair with pc companion and if this is not solving the problem just go to a Sony support center and give them the smartphone for replacement.
I have the reboot twice
Refresh ROM good!
Hi, my phone also has random restarts. It becomes sluggish and unresponsive, then just restarts.
I think mine has done it once or twice when just in standby mode as well.
I actually got my first Xperia S replaced as it had this problem, but the replacement is also suffering from it.
Seen a few other people saying they have the same over on the Sony forums, so I think its a software problem somewhere.

I have .73. I didn't flash my device nor I use it when charges(and I don't let it charging for hours).
I think that there was not enough RAM at that time but I am not sure. I'll have to check it out.
I just experienced the same problem not too long ago. I was web browsing and my phone crashed and rebooted on it's own. I'm on the phone with Sony right now because I have the youtube issue as well. This sounds like a software issue.
Had mine since March 6. So far only one random reboot, none since update to 6.0.A.5.6

I called Sony Mobile Canada to report this issue. I told her others are having this issue as well. She's going to escalate it. I would like to encourage everyone who's having this problem to call Sony tech support in your Country and let them be aware of this issue. The more people call about this issue, just maybe they will work on a software fix sooner rather than later. Strength in numbers!
No restart on mine
I heavy use internet 3G/wifi on it
But,
I never flash anything on mine with flashtool or seus or pcc
Pure stock FW.67
12w14
AAD-AV
Only 2 "big" issue
Phone freeze one time
when plug charger in
VolumeUp+power solve the bug,
And the yellow tint on the screen.
Normally, when the phone keep autoreboot,or autopowerOff
It is caused by a dead battery
You can identify it
by keep hold power when the phone restart by itself
and at reboot
If the led blink 3 time red when holding power
That's indicated battery die
Or made a battery test in service *#*#7378423#*#*
But your phone is new !
So try a full charge with reset battery to get best power (volumeUp + power 5second one vibrate)
If your phone is rooted
you can delete manualy "power_supply"
in sys/class and reboot
with charger pluged in
After that,
try a full restore with seus with wipe data ect..
Can't help more :-(
Ciao

Hi,
If you have this reboot issue
Nothing can resolve this!
But,just in case
Do not use your phone with charger pluged in for long time!
This kill your battery very quick!
And cause autoreboot
And be careful with internet!
If you flash some FW or rom or kernel
Made a full charge before flash
Ciao

MADE A FULL CHARGE BEFORE FLASH
This mean to avoid battery problem
But you!

I just try to help or give some tips
And finally read the manual of your phone!
Especially battery section!

What has random freeze to do with battery?
What you are telling is another section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25402228
Here you go.
Of course it getting hot.
Power means heat...
Logic.
This isnt a overclocked pc with grammacs core mg..
Kills battery and reboot. Right. Your right.
You go from a to z.
Do you even know what you are talking about?
He says freeze with browser bla bla, you begin with battery...
Nvm.
Good luck in your life

X10 reboots when using apps or playing music

I initially flashed my x10 from 2.1 to 2.3, it worked fine for about 3 months then it kept rebooting when i powered it on, thought it was something with the firmware so i re-flashed it back to 2.1. it is more stable now but when i am using a app/game or play music it freezes up and reboots. i'm using the latest flashtool .9.11 and firmware build- 2.1.A.0435 baseband 2.154
HELP!

i had this issue before & it was caused by a bad battery. it didn't matter which rom i was using. check with a different battery if you have a spare. good luck.

nope my phone isn't rooted, so i don't think its overclocked.
I have the same prob, same firmware you have, bt mine just reboots, even when plugd in, phone was kinda bricked, i managed to flash 2.1 using flashtool, then updated via pcompanion to 3, i still had the reboot/freeze up when i managed to get phone running again on 2.1 global, and i still have it with the upgrade. Is it nt maybe that the batteries cd be faulty? Or they cnt handle the power consumption requests that are required. Cd it be a failing part on the phones mobo? Charge block? Mine resets or freezes whether plugd into power socket, or laptop, mine is chargn though, bt 1 or two of my batrys go frm red to green charge in a few mins switchd on. Which cnt be ryt, so if it cd charge so fast i cn only think it wd lose power just as fast, or freeze or reboot, or there a fault on mobo. What are the hard reset btns?

I know this sounds odd and I thought it was a joke, but baking the main circuit board in the oven for 10min MAY correct system reboots.
Google "XPERIA X10 Oven" and take it from there.
There was/is a thread in X10 Q&A about doing this too.

A soft click sounds like u refern to the vibrate, when the phone powers up, maybe your bat kaput? I cn already feel by the strength of the vibrate if it will boot or nt, its gta be a strong vibrate when powering up, although i still reboot. Bt phone bn getn longer uptime as i gain sum kinda ground i think.

You need to flash a new kernel, Try flashing the stock kernel for your O.S. Alot of issues can rise if the kernel is messed up. Being you havent unlocked your bootloader, Or even upgraded to a kernel that has a CWM or "Recovery" menu its going to be more difficult. But dont get me wrong, unlocking your bootloader isn't fun. But you might have to in order to finally fix your issues so that way you can get into more settings on your phone. Get back to me.
Good place for a new kernel? I have rooted and done my stuff with flashtool... eg unlocked bootloader but to this day I stilk have the restart issue. What shd it be clocked at and how do I find out if its for sa because no matter what sim a sim id never detected... but will scan sa networks and show those available... but I cnt use any of those networks as the ohone dont see a sim. It will ask me on inserting a sim locarion and then it says pkease restart and insert a simcard... what the...? Cd that be the cause if my restarts, I have four batteries. .. although they are old
